[Bug 667151] [NEW] users-admin crashes due to right mouse click

2010-10-27 Thread Jeff Ebert
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-system-tools

In the process of trying to figure out what is happening with bug
#643153, I clicked with the right mouse button in the left panel that
contains the list of current users. The application crashes immediately
without displaying any menu or dialog.

Specifically, I clicked on the Add button first with the left mouse
button, and then clicked the right mouse button in the panel above it. I
do not think both are required for a crash.

[Bug 576751] Re: wnck-applet has memory leak

2010-10-27 Thread mtvoid
Reading the report at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-
panel/+bug/17787 might give a clue to the source of the problem. The
real culprit seems to be the transparency of the panel. The panel with
the wnck-applet needs to have both auto-hide and transparency enabled
for the memory leak to show up (I just checked now, even if auto-hide is
off and only transparency is enabled, switching workspaces causes a
leak). After disabling transparency by changing the panel background to
None (but keeping auto-hide enabled), I am no longer seeing the memory
leak on my system. Can others confirm if they are seeing similar
results?

[Bug 654429] Re: evulution leaks memory

2010-10-27 Thread BigBadBassMan
absolutely reproduceable. I have 8GB RAM, and evolution eats it away
within under 5 minutes

on my system Evolution starts with ~1GB virtual space, 71M RES, and in
seconds increases virtual to 8.5GB and RES to 800M

after kill -15 and restart, evolution requests around 4GB Virtual mem,
but keep ~ 5% real memory. probably because no new messages have been
retrieved in second start?

also disk activity is enormous, when evo is loaded.

[Bug 491489] Re: Duplicate Entry for Samba Mounts in Places

2010-10-27 Thread Bernhard Froehler
This bug started to affect me after updating to maverick. It did so on
both my machines, when I'm mounting the same SAMBA shares on my NAS.

My shares are not mounted on startup. A while after I have clicked on
the initially existing drive symbol, I'm getting the error message
Timeout waiting for mount to appear, but a second symbol has long
since appeared, and the share is accessible through that second symbol.

Interestingly enough, one of my shares is also called media, but I
have a second one with different name which also shows this odd
behavior.

[Bug 636819] Re: F-spot error: Value is greater than Int32.MaxValue or less than Int32.MinValue

2010-10-27 Thread Mirek
I can confirm that changing future date (whose timestamp is greater than 32 bit
signed integer) to smaller value solves the problem.
To change the date, edit FSpot database (in my case it was
~/.config/f-spot/photos.db) with sqlite manager and execute the following query:

update photos set time=[new_timestamp_which_is_less_then_max_int32]
where id=[id_of_photo_in_question]

If you have many photos with wrong timestamp, you can try to modify the
above query to update all of them at once e.g.:

update photos set time=[new_timestamp_which_is_less_then_max_int32]
where time 20

[Bug 643153] Re: maverick - 'user settings' hangs being root

2010-10-27 Thread Milan Bouchet-Valat
No, using gksu is a deprecated method for a long time, instead programs
are now run as a normal user, and get admin rights using PolicyKit. In
Maverick, this is for example how updates-manager works.

You're not supposed to run 'gksu users-admin', and I really don't see
how you'd think of doing so. Just use System-Administration-Users and
Groups, or type 'users-admin'.

[Bug 667203] [NEW] Gmail shows online contacts but messages are not delivered to me / others do not see me online

2010-10-27 Thread mac.ryan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

I am using 10.10 and although I presently rolled back to the standard repo,
until a few minutes ago I was on the PPA.
(So I am presently running Installed: 2.32.0-0ubuntu2)

Empathy connects to my gmail account and I can see my contact going on
and off line. I can even send messages to them (they receive them
without problems), but their answers (or any messages they send to me,
for what it matters) are never reaching empathy. Instead, I get an
e-mail from g-mail telling me that I got a message from the chat (as it
happens when one is effectively off-line and somebody tries to chat with
him/her).

I am unsure since when this problem is happening (it was a little bit I
was not using empathy). I can surely say that prior to upgrade to
Maverik everything was working fine, though.

Miscellany info on my system that I don't know if could help:
- I have the AWM mail applet checking for new mail on the same account every
couple of minutes.
- After upgrading to Maverik, I deleted my .gnome2 and .gnomeconf dirs and
re-configured all my applications (so I also re-created the accounts for
empathy)
- I have the firewall on (gufw)

Re: [Bug 486600] gnome-sound-recorder crashes after a few seconds

Hello,

I have changed my OS from Lucid Lynx to Maverick Meerkat :

Gnome-media : Version : 2.31.6-0ubuntu2
I've made several recordings these last few days, with one lasting 5
minutes and gnome-sound-recorder works beautifully well each time.

 Hello,

I've made some tests of Gnome-Sound-Recorder yesterday and today, but
both tests ended up with a crash, but not in the same way as under
Karmic Koala. Please look at the files .png attached that shows the new
 behaviour.
First, the messages I've got from the application. With both tests, I
had endless pop-ups of these messages. I have to force the application
 to quit.
Then, a screen shot of my desk and another one showing that not only
does the application crashes, but that it causes Pulse to disconnect
from the audio-card, ending up with no sound at all from my PC !!!

Please beware that I will not be home for 3 good week.

Re: [Bug 491489] Re: Duplicate Entry for Samba Mounts in Places

2010-10-27 Thread Callan Davies
This bug started to affect me after updating to maverick. It did so on
both my machines, when I'm mounting the same SAMBA shares on my NAS.

My shares are not mounted on startup. A while after I have clicked on
the initially existing drive symbol, I'm getting the error message
Timeout waiting for mount to appear, but a second symbol has long
since appeared, and the share is accessible through that second symbol.

Hi Bernhard,

Are you running Maverick 32- or 64-bit?

In my situation, I have multiple machines on Maverick 64-bit all with
the problem, however my netbook which is Maverick 32-bit does NOT have
this problem.

Interested to hear your feedback?

Cheers
Callan

[Bug 667247] [NEW] GIMP not usable without menu-icons set for Gnome via menus_have_icons

2010-10-27 Thread Andre
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gimp

Since Ubuntu 9.10 the gconf-setting (gconf-editor)
/desktop/interface/menus_have_icons is switched off (FALSE). This might
be a good decision for menus in Gnome in general, but in GIMP dialogues
like Gradient Editor Popup-Menu are not usable at all - unless you are
good in reading numerical RGB values. As one can see in this screenshot
of the menu, the colours (=icons) are essential: http://docs.gimp.org/en
/gimp-gradient-dialog.html#gimp-gradient-editor-left-load

I set menus_have_icons to TRUE for the moment:
conftool-2 --set /desktop/gnome/interface/menus_have_icons --type bool true

Any ideas how to fix this in general?

[Bug 667256] [NEW] Copying via Nautilus much slower than via cp / pv

2010-10-27 Thread amay82
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gvfs

Steps to reproduce:
* Take a 50 GB virtual machine file and copy it via Nautilus from one disk to
another
* First, the speed is about 70 MB/s as it should be and ETA is 12 minutes, but
then it gets slower and slower and ETA increases
* It takes ~ 45 min then

Steps to get expected results:
* Copy via cp or pv (pipe viewer, just to see how fast and ETA) - ETA is 12
min, speed is 70 MB/s but STAYS at this speed
* It takes 12 min

= There is something in Nautilus / probably gvfs that takes aways 33
min. Because I do a backup of this machine always before starting to
work on it, these 33 min are important for me.

[Bug 665925] Re: Nautilus crashes when clicking on the right arrow of the location area if the path is too long

2010-10-27 Thread Marcel Stimberg
Ok, thanks. I'm afraid I do not see anything too helpful in there...
So, let's try to do it the classical way: Could you
1. Install the package nautilus-dbg
2. Copypaste the script at the bottom of this page:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Backtrace#Summary%20in%20script%20form and save it as,
say, get_trace.bash in your home directory
3. Open a terminal and run:
nautilus -q; bash ~/get_trace.bash nautilus
(If this immediately terminates, try it again -- it depends on whether you
are able to start nautilus before it gets automatically restarted)
4. Reproduce your crash and attach the file /tmp/gdb-nautilus.txt to this bug

Thanks!

Google Calendar support, I then used CalDAV to configure a calendar to
interface with my Google Calendar, but experienced the exact same problem as
with the native Google Calendar.

I am also using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Lucid Lynx amd64.

I am not in Australia though, I am in South Africa.

[Bug 632594] Re: xvfb 1.9 and/or metacity not working on the buildds

2010-10-27 Thread Bryce Harrington
As to the question of how it entered the error path, I can't reproduce
the issue on maverick (pasting in the code and running it on a laptop
seems to work fine for me). However, from the error messages in the
description:

Window manager warning: Failed to contact configuration server; the most
common cause is a missing or misconfigured D-Bus session bus daemon. See
http://projects.gnome.org/gconf/ for information. (Details - 1: Failed
to get connection to session: Cannot spawn a message bus without a
machine-id: Unable to load /var/lib/dbus/machine-id: Failed to open file
'/var/lib/dbus/machine-id': No such file or directory)

...this seems to be suggesting your dbus service is missing. Is that a
possibility?

[Bug 632594] Re: xvfb 1.9 and/or metacity not working on the buildds

2010-10-27 Thread Bryce Harrington
The build log in comment #6 doesn't really give enough detail to be sure
what the error is, other than just that metacity couldn't be started up:

JAVAHarness

So, would be interesting to see a more detailed log, but seems quite
possible it could be the same bug.

[Bug 667289] [NEW] Favourites don't support show when offline

2010-10-27 Thread frederik.nnaji
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

Contacts in Contact List, manually marked Favourite by the user, should
support show when offline.
This way, i can always see them, whether they are offline, invisible to others

whether all favs should be there or only the 5 most frequently
contacted ones, as SeiLo might probably suggest now..

[Bug 667255] Re: [rhythmbox] the program often quits with no reason

2010-10-27 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.
If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 574832] Re: duplicate disk entry in nautilus sidebar

2010-10-27 Thread Marcelo Fernandez
In maverick I'm getting the same behavior. And changing the fstab entry
to /dev/sdx it's not really a fix, because you lose the advantages of
using UUID info for identifying partitions instead.

I'm attaching a screenshot of nautilus showing two duplicated
Informacion entries. The left entry (from the screenshot) works, the
other says mount: /dev/sda4 is already mounted or /media/Informacion is
busy mount: according to mtab, /dev/sda4 is already mounted in
/media/Informacion.

Moreover, this bug has all the info asked from the devs and is not
Incomplete...

[Bug 452049] Re: Gnome Places contains filesystems mounted via bind

2010-10-27 Thread Dominique Brazziel
Hello all. Thank you for working on this bug, I have been working on it for
the past few days and this thread clears things up quite a bit. Since reading
this, I took a look at some gio code and was thinking one of the functions in
'giounixmounts.c' might be of some assistance in determining if the volume is
already mounted? For instance, in my case I have an fstab entry for '/dev/sdX'
mounted at mount point '/av', then later a bind mount for 'device' /av at mount
point '/export/av' (for NFS sharing with other machines on the LAN).

A list of all mounted volumes can be gotten via 'g_unix_mounts_get () '
in 'giounixmounts.c', which has logic to deal with bind mounts. Perhaps
check somewhere to insure that the places menu is not populated with
this entry that is about to be mounted if GUnixMountPoint (/av) is equal
to a previously mounted GUnixMountEntry (/av).

Re: [Bug 666555] Re: users and groups home directory change does not take

2010-10-27 Thread RnSC
Will try to do tonight, may be a few days. I have fiddled with 10.04 before
also. This is at least the second, perhaps the third or fourth clean install
with this behavior. I just shrugged it off that I must have done something
wrong in the past, but this time I was prepared and very meticulous, and
verified. Again, I will do what you asked soon.
