[Bug 670237] Re: gedit does not stay on top

I could not reproduce the bug after a few reboots.
So I am also not sure what exactly caused it. Could be a one-off problem.
You can probably close this as solved. Sorry.

[Bug 537339] Re: Assign Eurosign to certain keys does not work

2010-11-09 Thread David Kaplan
I just tried this in Lucid with all the updates and it doesn't work. I
have selected adding eurosign to certain keys with the number 5
selected as the key. I also have the compose key set to right win. I
have tried in gedit after making the change right alt + 5, left alt
5, ctl 5 , right win 5, etc. Nothing works. The keyboard layaout
I am using is USA. Keyboard model is Generic 105-key Intl PC. I have
also tried enabling extra typographic characters option, but that
doesn't work for me either.

Is it necessary to reboot to get these to work? I haven't done that and
don't want to as this computer is busy working on things.

OK, the enable extra typographic characters workaround works, but only
if you choose a 3rd level chooser key. The add euro option doesn't

[Bug 581395] Re: Rhythmbox: Error while saving song information. Internal data stream error.

2010-11-09 Thread Akaname
It seems like rhythmbox damages the files while causing error while
saving song information. After a fresh install of Ubuntu Maverick with
Rhythmbox 0.13.1 on a new multicore laptop I experienced the same bug
again on a freshly oggenc-encoded .oga file.

After that I checked the file playback. It played in rhythmbox, but it
failed in totem.

So I checked the freshly encoded file with ogginfo:

ogginfo /home/suu/srv/music/repositories/1/items/1021/13.oga

All other freshly encoded files were ok. After checking my complete collection

[Bug 672091] Re: gnome-system-monitor crashed with SIGSEGV in g_source_get_current_time()

2010-11-09 Thread hinkie
Great to hear from you Pedro, and so quickly, thank you.

This is the first time I've had bug 672091 so I cannot suggest how to
reproduce otherwise. As I recall it happened following doing the last
updates, following the re-boot, so maybe that helps? It was the first
successful crash data upload.

672110 also came from the same machine, also a one off.

672861 that I've since reported is reproducible and happens
spontaneously every week or so. There are 3 HDD in the system, one for
the OS, and 2 x 2TB drives. One of the 2TB drives is totally full (i.e.
0 bytes left) and I am wondering if this has something to do with the
problem.

The 672861 bug is the one that triggered my install of apport, and it
took many crashes and updates before I got the data successfully
uploaded. If I can help further?

[Bug 571822] Re: Empathy allign RTL text as LTR text on messenger

2010-11-09 Thread Shlomil
Frustration
Well, Going by the GNOME logic (which I dislike .. sigh (
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=167354 ))
.. the auto-detection should be just fine (option C).

The grandmothers using Gnome should be smart enough to insert the Invisible
Unicode LRM/RLM characters when auto-detection goes wrong (which happens very
rarely I must admit ).
/Frustration

I'm afraid the problem get even more complex since last time I checked,
MSN didn't support RLM/LRM so well (this might have been changed by now)
and in this case butterfly should remove the RLM/LRM marks and set MSN's
RL flag accordingly.

IMO, Support for Rich text solves the problem since you may specify both
alignment and direction (note these are actually two different
properties) for different parts of the text and let the protocol plugin
do what it can to send it correctly.

Maybe Behdad Esfahbod should be asked for his opinion on this.

[Bug 666296] [NEW] gnome panel crashes when launcher icons are clicked

2010-11-09 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Using maverick, when I boot and start launching apps by clicking on
their icons on my top gnome panel, each launched program causes the
gnome panel to crash and restart (although it does launch the app first)

AFAICT, if I wait for a while after booting before using the launchers,
it no longer crashes (except that then sometimes it crashes again)

I realize that's vague, but it's very consistent for me - is there
anything I can do gather information that would make this easier to
track down/fix?

[Bug 581395] Re: Rhythmbox: Error while saving song information. Internal data stream error.

2010-11-09 Thread Akaname
By the way I've got the original 2+ .oga files on a file server
within their original state after creation. They all were created 6
months ago via flac / metaflac --add-replay-gain / oggenc. As precaution
no editings after that. I learned from previous tagging bugs of amarok
several years ago, that damaged hundreds of songs.

I checked the original files with ogginfo: The original files are *not*
damaged.

The local copies on laptop only were played and edited in rhythmbox. No
other tagging softwares.

[Bug 672997] Re: Evolution crashes upon opening Calendar

2010-11-09 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.
If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 551480] Re: pdf: wrong proportions and margins

2010-11-09 Thread AusIV
I can reproduce this on 10.10. My margins are large enough that nothing
is getting cut off, but the margins are about 1/4 inch too large. This
would have gone unnoticed, except that my university measures the
margins of theses and dissertations with a ruler. LPR prints pages with
the correct margins.

Re: [Bug 57731] Re: Futex hang when exiting using the window close button

2010-11-09 Thread Rogers Veber
Hi,

By interpreting the 1st argument as an address and reading the value on this
address, I get a 0 for the first three lines of my output (which are the
 futex calls).

No surprise for the first one because you just pushed a 0 at it to
unblock your process.
For the later ... I just wonder where is it from in the code (which lib,
which function ?).
You may try to send a SEGV signal to your process.
If it has be started under no limit for core (ulimit -c unlimited) you
should have a core dumped that could help you to know more about this
context with a debugger ...

Very nice how you use awk and the created header file in the middle of
your code. I tried it. It works ;-)

Yes, awk is a very fine and simple program for such a job.
The basic idea was to extract names of syscall regardless of your
system (32|64 bits, distro ...) and not to hard to regenerate if you
change some version of your box.
You just have to feed it with the correct header file ...

The difficulty now is to know how many arguments have been passed to
your syscall (and also the nature of those arguments).
That is mainly why strace is a very great tool and should be difficult
to maintain ...

A few answers ago, you said restoring the signal handler is not
neccessary. Is this a general fact or does it only apply to some kernel
 versions/architectures?

Well, historically in the Unix world there were two main branches of
Unices, the System V created by the Bell Labs. and the BSD created at
Berkeley University.
Many years ago, on System V Unices you had to restore the handler from
within the handler just like you did in your program. On BSD, the
management of signal
were cleaner and much more like you can see on Linux today, you could
specify if the handler should be reseted or not.
Except that the default behaviour is inverted.
On Linux today, the default is to keep the handler, and only an explicit
SA_ONESHOT or SA_RESETHAND prevents it.
I suppose there is a Posix on it ...

[Bug 615822] [NEW] evolution-common should depend on evolution, not just recommend

2010-11-09 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Removing evolution does not remove evolution-common, which contains the
menu item file for evolution, because evolution-common only 'recommends'
evolution, not 'depends' the package. This causes a usability problem
for people using the software centre to remove evolution, where the user
may be confused as to why the icon is still there. This is a very old

Problem 1

an attempt to display content of /usr/bin results in error message:

I went through all other major directories in file system - /usr/bin
appears to be the only troubled directory.

Problem 2

changing the content of /home/user/Desktop dos not result in displaying
new file icon on the desktop. The icon appears when accessing
/home/user/Desktop from the file manager - refreshing the content of
this directory from the file manager menu results in the file icon
appearing also on the desktop screen

the same behaviour found on three different machines with:

uninstalling wine does not change the above behaviour.

Re: [Bug 672250] Re: No way to stop Braesero

2010-11-09 Thread John Houston
I read your answer. You suffer from too much familiarity. As is you have been
there done that.
Me, reading that for the FIRST time completely confuses me. I don't have a
printer to help.
I am not at all sure where the lines end.
I am not sure what is comment and what is required.
What the wiki says is correct but not useful to the newbie.
I am volunteering my expertise as a newbie to help.

I am VERY willing to help. Those instructions cannot be used.
What I need are EXACTLY what should be typed into a terminal.
Please no explanations. Explanations are excess baggage.

At least put explanations elsewhere.

This is bothering me terribly. I want to help.

While the backtrace is needed and useful the instructions in
 https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Backtrace are close to worthless.
Sorry I cannot be of greater help. The Instructions are only
of use to someone who does not need them. Try them yourself.

Thank you taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Please try to obtain a backtrace manually following the
instructions at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Backtrace and upload the
backtrace (as an attachment) to the bug report. This will greatly help
us in tracking down your problem.

I guess I got into this situation by starting braesero and did not exit

Someone Nautilus, Gnome or Braesero thinks Braesero is still open.

I can barely get things done by using other ways around the directories.
Using Ubuntu rev 10.10

My suggestion is finding an easy way to exit Braesero.

number of files (in my case now 2+), not with only a few hundred
files.

Rhythmbox's tagging concept should be radically changed.

[Bug 670599] [NEW] PortableApps icon doesn't show up on USB-stick

2010-11-09 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I've installed PortableApps in Windows (see http://portableapps.com/).
There is an Autorun.inf (see below) that references to some ico-file
(see attachment), but this ico-file isn't visible on my desktop or in
Nautilus. I get some default icon that resembles a paper instead.

BTW: when I browse to the folder that contains the ico-file, I see the
correct thumbnail, but when I try to open it with Eye of Gnome 2.32.0 I
got an error. I could open it with Gimp though.

Contents of Autorun.inf, placed in the root of my USB-stick:
[Autorun]

Open=StartPortableApps.exe

Action=Start PortableApps.com

Icon=PortableApps\PortableApps.com\App\Graphics\usb.ico

Label=MCampe

Software: Ubuntu 10.10, Nautilus 2.32.0

[Bug 673082] [NEW] 10.04: Print in black/white instead of color

2010-11-09 Thread Torsten Spindler
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: eog

For a printer there are two print queues, one for black/white, one for
colour. eog always prints in black/white to the color print queue. If
the setting on 'Advanced' is changed to stop using 'gray scale', this is
also true for the black/white print queue, e.g. from then on it will
print in color.

This happens on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS.

[Bug 673072] Re: gnome-session fails to detect compiz capable card when using ltsp

2010-11-09 Thread GideonRomm
From the LTSP development side, if we could have:

1. A compiz script that returns true/false if the local client is
compiz-capable AND
2. An environment variable to tell the server on the desktop NOT to use compiz
(the inverse of SKIP_CHECKS)

We could resolve the bug on the LTSP client side.

Search for Files
Recent Documents

I guess I got into this situation by starting braesero and did not exit
correctly.
Someone Nautilus, Gnome or Braesero thinks Braesero is still open.

I can barely get things done by using other ways around the directories.
Using Ubuntu rev 10.10

My suggestion is finding an easy way to exit Braesero.
Braesero's exit does not clear this problem.

The problem continues after shutdown/restart and power down/restart.
