[Bug 672244] Re: PDF text is blanked when backwards selected

2011-01-08 Thread gpk
Here's a PDF document that does the trick that I can release.

If you go left-button-down nearly anywhere, and sweep towards the upper
left, you will see text that is to the upper right of your trajectory
disappear.

[Bug 700209] [NEW] File Manager hangs and does not respond when permanently deleting a folder

2011-01-08 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Hi,

For the last 2 days I am facing a issue in my Ubuntu 10.04 32 Bit.
When I try to delete a folder permanently using shift+delete, the confirmation
windows opens and everything freezes when I click on Delete button on the
confirmation windows. The file manager and the Nautilus does not work at all.
However other applications work fine like (Browser, Terminal).
I have to forcefully shutdown the laptop to make everything normal.

I can move folders to Trash, but can not empty the trash as it hangs (freezes)
as in above.
I am able to delete folders from Terminal using rmdir command.

This is a recent issue. I think some recent updates might have caused
it.

FYI: I use RabbitVCS with nautilus and thunnar extension.

Thanks
Bishnu

I create via Edit | Prefernces | Mail Account | Add, server type: USENET
News and NNTP account.
I configured an Server and a Username, No encryption, Authentication Type
Password. (Check for Supported Types succeeds, so communication with server
is OK.

Then trying to subscribe to groups via Folder | Subscription and chosing this
nntp account, following problem show up:
I see the Folder Subscriptions window, and shortly above a dialog Enter
Password for News (stating: Cannot auth. to server: 502 Auth. error)
But I am not able to insert any text in the dialog, because the windows below
(Folder Subscriptions) seems to be modal.
First I have to Close the Folder Subscriptions window, then can close the
Enter Password for News dialog.
Entering the password at this time (with closed Folder Subscription window)
doesn't help either, password is not saved for later use.

[Bug 192508] Re: mouse keys turns on randomly

I'm facing the same issue with the following configuration:
- ubuntu 10.04.1 32bit, with remote desktop enabled (vino version
2.28.2-0ubuntu2)
- ubuntu 10.04.1 64bit, connecting to the above computer with vinagre (version

The mouse keys activate on the first computer (the VNC server)

Based on the above comments and my personal experience, I don't think it
could simply be some accidental Shift-NumLock

[Bug 700304] [NEW] Shift+Del to permanently remove file hangs

2011-01-08 Thread A1an
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Using shift+del keyboard shortcut to permanently remove a file brings up
the confirmation dialog, then either selecting cancel or delete causes
nautilus to hang (although the chosen operation seems to complete).

To restore nautilus the close icon has to be clicked on the confirmation
window and the force quit option selected for the unnamed application
that is not responding.

[Bug 700309] [NEW] $HOME/.Xmodmap is applied twice

2011-01-08 Thread theclaw
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

It seems that $HOME/.Xmodmap is applied twice in Ubuntu 10.10. This
might cause problems for some users - in my case, for example, I use
Xmodmap to swap the Escape and CapsLock key - so when applied twice,
nothing is essentially swapped. FYI, here's my .Xmodmap:

! Swap caps lock and escape
remove Lock = Caps_Lock
keysym Escape = Caps_Lock
keysym Caps_Lock = Escape
add Lock = Caps_Lock

I verified this by commenting out the line in /etc/gdm/Xsession which
applies my .Xmodmap. After that, everything works as expected. It
seems that some other component applies .Xmodmap, too - I guess it's
some part of Gnome, as sometimes when logging in I get asked which
.Xmodmap I want to load.

[Bug 700328] [NEW] Grabbing the current window doesn't work with delay=0

2011-01-08 Thread Pascal De Vuyst
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-utils

Taking a screenshot of the current window with delay set to 0 seconds
(default setting) doesn't work: no screenshot appears on the desktop.
Running gnome-screenshot --interactive from a terminal reveils the
following error:

$ LANG=c gnome-screenshot --interactive

(process:3530): Gtk-WARNING **: Locale not supported by C library.
Using the fallback 'C' locale.
The program 'gnome-screenshot' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadWindow (invalid Window parameter)'.
  (Details: serial 3457 error_code 3 request_code 15 minor_code 0)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

Adding the --sync option seems to solve the problem but a part a the
gnome-screenshot window is still in the screenshot if it overlaps the
current window. So perhaps 0 should mean the minimal delay to only get
the current window.

[Bug 587601] Re: No Logon screen after 'switching user', only an Ubuntu logo and the computers name

2011-01-08 Thread walter----
Ok, I got my gdm stable again.

= in the /etc/gdm/custom.conf I added in the past manually some settings.
More specific, I added two parameters:

IncludeAll=false
Include=user1,user2,user3

(where user1,... where the users I wanted to be used by gdm to show in the
login screen).
At some point there was an issue in gdm that is was showing all users on the
login screen. Apparently this got fixed at some point.

I now excluded these two setting and now gdm is stable again. The issue is no
longer happening.
I can now run again Ubuntu for weeks without rebooting and having multiple
users using it.

In itself this issue is solved. If some developer wants, he can of
course investigate further why gdm could become instable when these two
settings are used.

enjoy,

Walter

posted here https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-settings-
daemon/+bug/649809 post #68 which adds a short delay to the daemon
loading on startup.

Basically it involves editing /etc/xdg/autostart/gnome-settings-
daemon.desktop and changing line 4 to:

Exec= bash -c sleep 2; /usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gnome-settings-
daemon

Hope this helps.

[Bug 678233] Re: Nautilus crashes when overwriting files/merging folders

2011-01-08 Thread eclipsenet
I installed the debug symbols for nautilus and I tried running gdb. I
attached it to an active nautilus process and ran the commands listed in
the backtrace instructions. When nautilus gets hung I attempted to
cntrl+c in gdb to be able to enter the commands to grab the backtrace
but I am unable to get gdb to beak out now.

[Bug 382703] Re: Home Folder has 3 different names

2011-01-08 Thread mitch
+ 1 for username. Surely even the most naive user could deduce from
common sense that the folder with their username is their 'main' folder.
I know that we're trying to spread Linux to the masses here but we have
to realistic about the type of users that are likely to convert and I
would venture to say that someone who would be confused by that most
likely would never even consider converting from windows and OSX users
are likely familiar with Unix naming conventions so it probably wouldn't
be an issue for them anyway.

[Bug 700404] [NEW] Arange Items in Nautilus is Case sensitive

2011-01-08 Thread mrklister
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Selecting arange items by name sorts the files case sensitive.
For a normal user case sensitive sorting is not relevant. Therefore the sorting
should be case insensitive by default.

Example of case sensitive sorting:
family.guy.s01e02.avi
Family.Guy.S01E01.avi

should be sorted case insensitive:
Family.Guy.S01E01.avi
family.guy.s01e02.avi

[Bug 662951] [NEW] Screen does not lock while mouse over menus until click

2011-01-08 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: indicator-applet

Problem is reproducible on my machine with these steps:

1. Left click an indicator applet (I've tested sound and chat).
2. Set mouse over menu (e.g. the play/pause button in sound, or Set up
mail...).
3. Leave computer alone for 5+ minutes (time until screen locks); Screen does
not lock.
4. Mouse mouse and click somewhere outside the menu. The screen instantly locks
after clicking.

Expected behavior: Screen would lock after 5 minutes in step 3.

Additionally, the play/pause button (and possibly others, I haven't
tested them) can be interacted with after the 5 minutes without locking
the screen.

[Bug 644392] Re: Tray icon is not transparent when using python-eggtrayicon

As a GTimeLog-specific workaround, I recommend setting
'prefer_old_tray_icon = no' in ~/.gtimelog/gtimelogrc.  I'll make that
the default in trunk.

There's a side efect: you lose the task clock display in your systray,
since gtk.StatusIcon doesn't support arbitrary widgets.

[Bug 588155] Re: randomly gnome-settings-daemon fails to start

2011-01-08 Thread H3g3m0n
I doubt anyone will be able to fix this without a stack trace.

From what I can see, the current ddeb dbgsym packages have the gnome-
settings-deamon binary in them which for some reason they didn't when I
tried back with Lucid which made getting a stack trace impossible.

Since they now seem to work, Grab the dbgsym version and give the
instructions I gave for logging gnome-settings-daemon a go. I would but
it's no longer happening to me.

If the other instructions don't work or you want a different way, It might also
be possible to rename dbgsym version of the /usr/bin/gnome-settings-daemon
binary and replace it with script containing something like:
screen -L gdb --eval-command='run' gnome-settings-daemon.therealfile

Then just 'screen -x' and get a backtrace.

2011-01-08 Thread graemev
I too see this, plus a number of other DVD related problems (which did
not occur with 10.04 on same hardware)

1: Please eject (as above) it just popped up while trying this

2: Inserting blank media opens a disc creator menu (looks like brasero) but if
I get it to write an existing iso (drag drop + choose as an image) the
nautilus window vanishes and (I think all my nautilus windows die) repeat this
several times eventually it works ... seems to vary depending on whether the
entry is highlighted or not (may be wishful thinking)
opening brasero from menu always works ... but the the please eject at the end.

3: inserting dvds do not always pop up a window ... this may be due to
some options I disabled ... but may relate to the big (ie as a cause)

This feels more like udev than brasero ...

[Bug 382703] Re: Home Folder has 3 different names

2011-01-08 Thread Elias Julkunen
Using only the username shouldn't be any confusing as there is the home
folder icon just next to the username. The tooltip could be something
like Your Home Folder and that would make it even more clear.

[Bug 540826] Re: Rename Suspend to Sleep

2011-01-08 Thread Elias Julkunen
Suspend is technically more correct than Sleep and I'd prefer that.
But the most important thing is that whatever name it is called, it is
called with the same name everywhere. Otherwise it is just confusing.

[Bug 118988] Re: No way to disable trash in nautilus

2011-01-08 Thread Eric Majerus
WARNING for anyone that tries the advice in comments #14 and #19:

Using Ubuntu 10.10, I did this and at first it worked perfectly,
however, I was perplexed why Nautilus was automatically deleting my
files when renaming them. I often use the Delete key when renaming
files instead of the Backspace key. What happens after making the
Delete key the shortcut for the Delete command in Nautilus is if you are
renaming a file and press the Delete key (to remove text after the
cursor), Nautilus deletes the file in the background but doesn't exit
the rename process so it looks like nothing happened. When you press
Enter to accept the new name, it errors saying the file does not exist
(and being you just made it the shortcut to bypass the trash, good luck
getting it back some work).

[Bug 661609] Re: empathy can not connect with microsoft MSN video call

2011-01-08 Thread Brian Holland
Hi Hussein and Omer,

Could you please specify which gstreamer package you installed?

Ubuntu Software Centre shows a long list of gstreamer packages,
including 100 technical items. I have installed most of the technical
items except those ending in '-doc' but I still can't get Empathy to
connect to a video call with Windows Live Messenger.

I am using:
a) Ubuntu Maverick 10.10
b) Empathy 2.32.1

My friend's laptop is using:
a) Windows Live Messenger 2011 (Build 15.4.3508.1109)

Problems encountered:
1. Windows Live Messenger (WLM) can initiate a video call with Empathy, which
results in Empathy 'ringing' and allowing me to Answer or Reject the call.
When I push Answer, I receive the error message that indicates there is no
intersection between the codecs on each system.

2. Empathy cannot initiate a call to WLM, as the 'Video Call' (and
'Audio Call') actions are disabled, i.e. greyed out. There is no
indicator in my buddy list to show the WLM contact has audio or video,
even though they do.

Could the updated WLM 2011 be the problem? I have another MSN contact
in my list who uses Trillian and they correctly show in my buddy list
with an audio icon.

Thanks,
Brian.

Right, that's the downside with this approach. It should only affect
some corner cases, as it'd be very unusual to not have any country
specific translations in the entirety of main, but one in a universe
 package?

Probably. You can take a look at the langpack tarball we get from
Launchpad for a complete list of available langcodes in main.

Regarding gdm: why would a simple gettext call to iso-codes, like it is
done in l-s, for the list of available languages/countries be too slow
 at boot time?

gettext is fine, of course. I meant the parsing of the large XML files
that is done in the demo perl script. I assume this is only for the
testing script, as it's quite easy to do.

OK.
