[Bug 700209] [NEW] File Manager hangs and does not respond when permanently deleting a folder
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Hi, For the last 2 days I am facing a issue in my Ubuntu 10.04 32 Bit. When I try to delete a folder permanently using shift+delete, the confirmation windows opens and everything freezes when I click on Delete button on the confirmation windows. The file manager and the Nautilus does not work at all. However other applications work fine like (Browser, Terminal). I have to forcefully shutdown the laptop to make everything normal. I can move folders to Trash, but can not empty the trash as it hangs (freezes) as in above. I am able to delete folders from Terminal using rmdir command. This is a recent issue. I think some recent updates might have caused it. FYI: I use RabbitVCS with nautilus and thunnar extension. [Bug 700328] [NEW] Grabbing the current window doesn't work with delay=0
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-utils Taking a screenshot of the current window with delay set to 0 seconds (default setting) doesn't work: no screenshot appears on the desktop. Running gnome-screenshot --interactive from a terminal reveils the following error: $ LANG=c gnome-screenshot --interactive (process:3530): Gtk-WARNING **: Locale not supported by C library. Using the fallback 'C' locale. The program 'gnome-screenshot' received an X Window System error. This probably reflects a bug in the program. The error was 'BadWindow (invalid Window parameter)'. (Details: serial 3457 error_code 3 request_code 15 minor_code 0) (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously; that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it. To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.) [Bug 587601] Re: No Logon screen after 'switching user', only an Ubuntu logo and the computers name
Ok, I got my gdm stable again. = in the /etc/gdm/custom.conf I added in the past manually some settings. More specific, I added two parameters: IncludeAll=false Include=user1,user2,user3 (where user1,... where the users I wanted to be used by gdm to show in the login screen). At some point there was an issue in gdm that is was showing all users on the login screen. Apparently this got fixed at some point. I now excluded these two setting and now gdm is stable again. The issue is no longer happening. I can now run again Ubuntu for weeks without rebooting and having multiple users using it. In itself this issue is solved. If some developer wants, he can of course investigate further why gdm could become instable when these two settings are used. enjoy, Walter -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gdm in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/587601 Title: No Logon screen after 'switching user', only an Ubuntu logo and the computers name -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 662951] [NEW] Screen does not lock while mouse over menus until click
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Binary package hint: indicator-applet Problem is reproducible on my machine with these steps: 1. Left click an indicator applet (I've tested sound and chat). 2. Set mouse over menu (e.g. the play/pause button in sound, or Set up mail...). 3. Leave computer alone for 5+ minutes (time until screen locks); Screen does not lock. 4. Mouse mouse and click somewhere outside the menu. The screen instantly locks after clicking. Expected behavior: Screen would lock after 5 minutes in step 3. Additionally, the play/pause button (and possibly others, I haven't tested them) can be interacted with after the 5 minutes without locking the screen. [Bug 588155] Re: randomly gnome-settings-daemon fails to start
I doubt anyone will be able to fix this without a stack trace. From what I can see, the current ddeb dbgsym packages have the gnome- settings-deamon binary in them which for some reason they didn't when I tried back with Lucid which made getting a stack trace impossible. Since they now seem to work, Grab the dbgsym version and give the instructions I gave for logging gnome-settings-daemon a go. I would but it's no longer happening to me. If the other instructions don't work or you want a different way, It might also be possible to rename dbgsym version of the /usr/bin/gnome-settings-daemon binary and replace it with script containing something like: screen -L gdb --eval-command='run' gnome-settings-daemon.therealfile Then just 'screen -x' and get a backtrace. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/588155 Title: randomly gnome-settings-daemon fails to start -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 118988] Re: No way to disable trash in nautilus
WARNING for anyone that tries the advice in comments #14 and #19: Using Ubuntu 10.10, I did this and at first it worked perfectly, however, I was perplexed why Nautilus was automatically deleting my files when renaming them. I often use the Delete key when renaming files instead of the Backspace key. What happens after making the Delete key the shortcut for the Delete command in Nautilus is if you are renaming a file and press the Delete key (to remove text after the cursor), Nautilus deletes the file in the background but doesn't exit the rename process so it looks like nothing happened. When you press Enter to accept the new name, it errors saying the file does not exist (and being you just made it the shortcut to bypass the trash, good luck getting it back some work). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/118988 Title: No way to disable trash in nautilus -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Re: [Bug 693337] Re: Menus for choosing language should have one option per available translation

Right, that's the downside with this approach. It should only affect some corner cases, as it'd be very unusual to not have any country specific translations in the entirety of main, but one in a universe package? Probably. You can take a look at the langpack tarball we get from Launchpad for a complete list of available langcodes in main. Regarding gdm: why would a simple gettext call to iso-codes, like it is done in l-s, for the list of available languages/countries be too slow at boot time? gettext is fine, of course. I meant the parsing of the large XML files that is done in the demo perl script. I assume this is only for the testing script, as it's quite easy to do. OK.
