[Bug 521766] Re: Theme not applied on startup

For me it seems, that this bug happens, when running on battery power.
Also I'm using the proprietary NVIDIA driver (like some other people who get
the bug).

[Bug 569273] Re: memory leak in gnome-power-manager

2011-02-01 Thread Jarmo Ilonen
I am not sure if yet another me too helps anything, but I am seeing
this problem on a ubuntu 10.10 x86 desktop. Despite being a desktop,
gnome-power-manager sees some action because it warns when the mouse
(logitech mx1000) battery gets low.

On this computer gnome-power-manager now takes 102636kB (Size from
/proc/pid/smaps) after five days of uptime. The computer is always on
and after about a month gnome-power-manager has to be killed and
restarted because the overall performance starts to degrade caused by
wasted memory. Gnome-power-manager does not seem to ever get swapped out
and stays in RAM, so it must access all that allocated memory quite
often.

I am not sure which menu icons matter, but for example gedit does not
show icons in file/edit/etc menus, but gnome-panel shows them in
applications/places/system menus. There is no interface tab in gnome-
appearance-properties to change the setting.

BTW, why is this bug hidden when searching gnome-power-manager memory
leak in bugs.ubuntu.com? This page is the first hit in google with the
same search string.

2011-02-01 Thread Martin Pitt

we should also send it upstream, so that other GNOME users can benefit

[Bug 711222] [NEW] Unread count of folder invalid when moving replied emails

2011-02-01 Thread Nils Asmussen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Steps to reproduce:
1. Write yourself an email
2. Press Send/receive to receive the email
3. Read it and reply to this email
4. Move the email you replied to to another folder

Having done that, evolution displays that the folder I moved the email to
contains 1 unread email (0 before that), although I read the email before and
the email itself has the status read. Changing the status to unread and back
to read again corrects the number of unread emails in that folder.
Note that this does not happen if I don't reply to that email before I move it.

I hope that this is no duplicate, because there are quite a few other
bug-reports to unread count of folder. But as far as I've seen it,
none of them is related to replying to an email.

I'm using Ubuntu 10.10, 2.6.35-24-generic, x86_64 and evolution
2.30.3-1ubuntu7.2.

[Bug 711000] Re: Window title should contain application name

2011-02-01 Thread Robert Roth
My problem with that would be that the GNOME Human Interface Guidelines
(http://library.gnome.org/devel/hig-book/2.32/windows-primary.html.en
#primary-window-titles) says that Including the application name in the
title of a document-based application is not recommended.

[Bug 711355] [NEW] sync with iPhone 4 broken

2011-02-01 Thread lucas
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Rhythmbox seems to execute a sync with the iPhone but the new songs do
not appear after syncing is complete. I tested this with OS 4.1 and 4.2
on an iPhone 4.

It does see the phone's song library correctly and recognizes the right
number of missing songs. One can delete songs on the phone but they are
not removed from the phone's library.

Banshee seems to have similar problems. It goes through an elaborate
sync process including updating the database on the phone -- or so it
claims. But again, nothing seems to actually change on the phone. In
fact, Banshee is all confused about what is music, what is video and
what is other data on the phone.

I suspect that some underlying libs are broken. I have tried this with a
freshly updated version of maverick 10.10 and also tried adding this
repository for latest updates of libimobiledevice1 (v 1.0.4):
ppa.launchpad.net/pmcenery/ppa/ubuntu . Incidentally, after adding this
repository i can no longer browse the file content of the phone, all
else is the same.

OK, the problem seems to be EXIF rather than the size.
If I run

[Bug 710901] Re: search not implemented

2011-02-01 Thread Charlie Kravetz
Thanks for reporting this bug and any supporting documentation. Since
this bug has enough information provided for a developer to begin work,
I'm going to mark it as confirmed and let them handle it from here.

I reproduced this in Xubuntu Natty Narwhal as follows:
yelp in the terminal opens Desktop User Guide. Typing gedit in the search box
does not do anything, but in the terminal I have FIXME: search_activated.

Thanks for taking the time to make Ubuntu better!

And this is PDF file with the other file included, all made with
pdfLaTeX, nothing really fancy and I'm not rotating the image in LaTeX
either. This file displays well in Adobe Reader, but in Evince the
included file is turned on its side.

If you have any use for the LaTeX code, which I doubt (okay, not the
exact source, I left out some parts, but it compiles and reproduces the
bug)

[Bug 19232] Re: Window resizing handle not present in many apps

2011-02-01 Thread Yariv
The window borders (as of Ubuntu 10.10) of all applications are extremely thin.
Because of this it is very hard to 'catch' them with a mouse in order to resize
the window.

A possible solution is to use a resize grip (that small area at the
bottom right corner of some windows which implement it). This resize
grip should be displayed and handled by the *window manage*. That way
all resizeable windows will have it.

It is instructive to see how Mac OS X did it. They got that one right.

[Bug 711392] [NEW] Lockup when 'Login as username' is displayed

2011-02-01 Thread Will Bickerstaff
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

If I hover the mouse over my username on the gdm login screen so as the
tooltip login as username displays, then either pressing return to
bring up the password box or clicking on my username causes the whole
system to freeze. No response whatsoever, I can not switch to any VT,
ctrl-alt-del or ssh into the machine. I did leave it for 5 mins once to
see if it would sort itself out, when I came back the system was baking
and on next reboot immediately warned of high temps.

If I move the mouse pointer away from the user selection window so as
the tooltip doesn't display, then use the keyboard to select the user I
can log in normally.

[Bug 693131] [NEW] Launchpad links in the bug-fix description field don't lauch Firefox when set as default

2011-02-01 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: update-manager

I fired up Update Manager to check what fixes were waiting - decided to
have a look at the related Launchpad report against one of the kernel
updates... instead of opening up a tab in Firefox as I expected, it
started another program called the Gnome Web Browser. In turn, this
messed up my audio playback - I had to reboot to get my audio back.
This affected ALL audio playback whether from my browser or from other
audio apps (Totem, Rhythmbox etc).

I tested with iPlayer - and while I could watch images, there was no
audio at all until I rebooted.

I have Firefox set as my default browser in System Preferences - surely
this option should be used by all apps requesting web-page output?

What was concerning was - I had Firefox open at the time -

Expected behaviour... that the Launchpad page would open up in a new tab
within Firefox.

Please fix.

[Bug 693131] Re: Launchpad links in the bug-fix description field don't lauch Firefox when set as default

2011-02-01 Thread RedSingularity
You are correct. It should. The bug is in a script that changes the x
-www-browser file. I am marking the bug as confirmed and will edit the
description for the developers. In the meantime in order to get a
choice of a preferred web browser, uninstall epiphany since you do not
use it anyway.

sudo apt-get autoremove epiphany-browser

Then try the following command in terminal again:

x-www-browser

This time firefox should open without a problem.

[Bug 693131] Re: Launchpad links in the bug-fix description field don't lauch Firefox when set as default

2011-02-01 Thread Chris Coulson
x-www-browser is an alternative, managed by the alternatives system.
Alternatives are known to suck (they are system-wide preferences, and
*not* user preferences). If update-manager really is using x-www-
browser, then it needs fixing to not use that.

In any case, this doesn't have anything to do with gnome-control-center

[Bug 389176] Re: Explore alternative default behaviors when double-clicking on archive files; Archive Manager is complicated

2011-02-01 Thread Vish
Closing this, as this is not really a papercut task. We dont have a design
plan. And there is no simple, accepted fix yet.
Don't worry though, this bug has been closed only in the papercuts project. The
other tasks are still open.

@Chris Wilson: No, we dont use blueprints for papercuts project.

[Bug 711300] Re: rotated included PDF

2011-02-01 Thread Marcel Stimberg
Thanks, I can confirm the problem. It is rendered correctly with xpdf
and okular, evince and epdfviewer show the rotated picture. The issue
therefore seems to be in the poppler cairo backend (okular uses poppler,
but with the splash backend). The problem is still reproducable with the
poppler version in Ubuntu Natty (0.16.0-0ubuntu2).

[Bug 589377] Re: when changing the background colors of the theme Ambiance, the window buttons change side (into the right) automatically

2011-02-01 Thread Dmitry Andreychuk
I've just tested it with the latest natty image (via TestDrive) and the bug is
still present. Martin, are you sure that you did everything like comment #4
says? Notice that you have to *select* the new theme after saving it. Steps 8-9
of the procedure say to change to Ambiance and then back to new theme, but
actually clicking on the thumbnail of the new theme is enough.
BTW this bug is also present in maverick and lucid, but it is probably not
important enough for SRU.

Actually the fix *is* Ubuntu specific because it only changes
debian/patches/52_button_layout_from_theme.patch which is Ubuntu
specific. AFAIK theme's preferred button layout (through X-GNOME-
Metatheme/ButtonLayout index file key) was introduced in lucid and isn't
supported upstream and in Debian.
