[Bug 649809] Re: Meerkat (10.10) does not apply theme properly
Definitely related to SSDs. Installed 10.04 and 10.10 on HDD and SDD. [Bug 649809] Re: Meerkat (10.10) does not apply theme properly
just had it on my dad's machine. No SSD here. Maybe SSDs make it only more likely. However, I did install a new graphic card (Nvidia GTX 570). Not sure if I had it before, though. [Bug 649809] Re: Meerkat (10.10) does not apply theme properly
I suspect this problem to be connected with the overall performance of the computer. There is most probably a race condition between gnome settings and gnome, because as far as all posts go it can be easily fixed by waiting for two seconds before trying to load gnome settings. I have many computers with 10.10 running and only the best one (i7 820, SSD) is having this problem, but not always, it is about 50/50. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/649809 Title: Meerkat (10.10) does not apply theme properly -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 714294] [NEW] Evolution Does Not Appear to Correctly Save Draft Email Messages If Using IMAP Folder and Offline
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution I am new to using Evolution, having previously used Thunderbird. I set Evolution up with IMAP access, using the imap+ option, to three different accounts. 1) Yahoo account 2) gmail account 3) NTL World (Virgin Media) account that is I believe just another gmail account All works well. I experimented with a few options and set the sent mail and drafts folder to be the corresponding IMAP folder for each account. I checked that on creating and saving a draft message that that message appeared in the IMAP draft folder for each account, both as seen in Evolution and on-line via the web portal connection to each account. I did the same for sent mail. All worked well. I had been on-line at this point. I then wondered what would happen if I was off-line. So I went off-line, I used two different methods, disconnecting the wireless connection and by clicking on the Evolution on/off line icon in the bottom left of the program window. Both methods seemed to produce the same results. This was: 1) Go off-line 2) Create new message 3) Save message, by clicking on icon on menu bar. There is no message when you do this to say if the save is or isn't successful. 4) After the save operation, immediately quit the message using the close button (top left menu bar cross in red-circle). The message window closes with no further dialog or prompt. 5) Now look for saved draft message. It can't be found. It is not in the designated drafts folder (an IMAP on-line draft folder). I had previously set the draft folder up for off-line access by right hand clicking on the folder and setting this by a tick-box on the properties item). I also could not find the message in any of the local folders. 6) I repeated this for all three account with the same behaviour. 7) The messages appear to have been lost. Well at least I couldn't find them to re-open them to continue and send them. Now it might be reasonable to suggest I should use a local folder for drafts (the Evolution default), but I wanted to try to see if I could synchronize send and drafts messages between machines using imap. What I would hope is: 1) Evolution would not allow a save operation that did not not work and then allow the use to quit the message window without any prompt. 2) If Evolution has saved the message it would be useful to make it clear to the user where it has been saved. Now having said all of this on quitting Evolution I did receive a message pop-up window about I would lose some data (I can't remember the exact message dialog box), and on selecting the safe option not to quit, one of my closed message windows may have re-appeared. I can't be sure about this as it could have been an open draft window that I had not saved. It certainly was not all of the missing draft messages. The other related item is it is not clear how to easily set up all on-line folders in an account for off-line access. I thought I had done this in the main settings, but then when right clicking on each folder: Properties - Copy folder content for offline operation was not ticked. I seemed to have to individually set this for every folder, not ideal. Have I missed an easy way to set this up so that any future created imap folder would automatically be setup for off-line access? [Bug 601056] Re: Gnome-panel elements (main menu, launchers) disappear or become white after resume
Affecting me too (ubuntu 10.04) I'm fairly sure it wasn't happening a month or two ago, so perhaps it is being triggered by some icon I've added. After a normal resume the icons are a bit slow in coming up, 5-10 seconds. However if I suspend, unplug the network cable, then later resume without the network: it will sit there without icons and unresponsive for ages. I've now started killing it as soon as it happens, then after 10-30 seconds a new working panel comes up. I wonder if it is related to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source /gnome-panel/+bug/418881 where they suggest a remote location icon might be the cause. If so, to echo that poster's comments, how to find out the problem icon, and how to shorten the timeout? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-panel in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/601056 Title: Gnome-panel elements (main menu, launchers) disappear or become white after resume -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 408417] Re: XDMCP server not working in Ubuntu 10.10 (Maverick)
I have applied the patch, but I am seeing a very strange problem. I am using vnc sessions with gdm / xdmcp enabled to allow persistent sessions in 10.10 It seems that gdm-simple-greeter is now hanging/crashing, depending on what is done. a) If I have a vnc session with display resolution set to 640x480, simple-greeter works and I can login. However, if I click on my user name to login and then click cancel, simple-greeter segfaults. (the segfault can be seen in /var/log/gdm/x-greeter.log) b) If I have a vnc session with a display resolution of, say, 800x600, simple-greeter hangs, and I cannot login at all. In fact, the change in behavior it seems to be related to the x-dimension of the vnc session requested - if I set it to be 640x800, that will work just as in case a) above Either way, both a and b either crash or hang. I don't know if this issue is related to the patch or not as I applied the patch before setting up the vnc system. I applied the i386 patch listed above to a 10.10 32bit install. (i686 from uname -a) I would be interested to see if anyone else is seeing an issue with gdm- simple-greeter, or if there is an alternative to it that I could try.. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gdm in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/408417 Title: XDMCP server not working in Ubuntu 10.10 (Maverick) -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 610802] Re: 'Mirror Screens' often seen on projectors during presentations.
I've pushed a workaround for this bug, but it looks like it also exists in anything that uses GtkMessageDialog or GtkAboutDialog, so I'm not sure whether or not this is the intended behavior. My guess would be that it's not, since you can't do this in the file overwrite dialog in nautilus, but you can in the 'Slashes not allowed in filename' dialog.
