[Bug 697358] Re: regression in window list applet (wnck-applet) behavior

2011-05-16 Thread Fabrizio Marcolini
I can see my progress: abandon Ubuntu and install Fedora 15 with Gnome 3
in 9 days. Probably much better option than the choice of Unity (I don't
like it plus it's full of bugs) or Ubuntu Classic (seemingly
deprecated).

[Bug 779509] Re: keyboard layout settings not remembered

2011-05-16 Thread SoftKnight
quoteOk...but do you have two keyboard layouts to choose from or only one?
Does the indicator applet show in the tray accordingly?
What keyboard did you choose during Natty first installation? Is it the same
one as the layout you use now or did you add an additional keyboard layout
afterward?/quote

I installed Natty with the german de_de (latin1_nodeadkeys) and it's the
only one. I have no tray icon concerning the keymap/language. I never
changed the language/keymap after the installation.

At my server installation i have no X, so there's no tray icon or
something else. During the installation I choosed the same keymap but a
qwerty was installed and used. Weired thing.

[Bug 775639] Re: Desktop background does not draw when set to solid color

2011-05-16 Thread Peter Bašista
I can confirm this bug on my Ubuntu Natty / 11.04.

If I hide the desktop icons, the solid color desktop background is not
redrawn and the windows leave trails (see the attached screenshot).

For me, it is not a very big deal, because I have the desktop icons
enabled and in that case, as Jacob Williams correctly stated, the
background is redrawn properly.

But it surely is a bug and needs to be resolved!

show_desktop is disabled.

[Bug 661595] Re: screen capture cropped on dual display

2011-05-16 Thread The Islander
My laptop has 1280 x 800 and external monitor 1680 x 1050 resolution.
I had the same problem. Doesn't occur when no external monitor in use.
Workaround: (?)
When turned the external monitor off (+keep settings) and back on (+keep
settings) from monitor preferences, the problem disappeared!
Fixed also strange problem with mouse pointer disappearing when moving from top
of external monitor to laptop screen (there was like blank not visible area on
top of laptop screen).

Don't run it as root, like I said above, that's all. Anyway, you
shouldn't login graphically as root, so either create an admin account
for this kind of task, or use the commandline ('deluser guest').

[Bug 783382] [NEW] nautilus malfunctions when using ctrl-c to copy a file name

2011-05-16 Thread erqiang
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus
(system Ubuntu 11.04, Nautilus 2.32.2.1)

Select a file in nautilus, press F2, then the file name is automatically
selected, press ctrl-c to copy the selected file name (not the whole
path of file)

Case 1: open gedit or leafpad what so ever, press ctrl-v to paste,
the result is the whole path of the selected file, but I just expect the
selected file name.

Case 2: now select another file and press F2 (the second file name is
now selected), then press ctrl-v, nothing happened, but I expect the
copied file name can be pasted here; after that press Esc or enter to
cancel the selection of second file name, then nautilus gives another
copy of the first file, but I never intend to copy the file itself.

[Bug 772389] Re: Evolution not fetch messages over pop3 if system proxy set

2011-05-16 Thread Simon Fraser
I had a similar problem, and I had the system proxy set to use the proxy
for all protocols. This seemed to cause evolution to try and use my web
proxy for an imap connection. I unchecked the box in the Network Proxy
system settings so that it wouldn't apply to all protocols, and set the
proxy individually for http/https/ftp. This is obviously a workaround,
though, and the bug persists in Evolution.

[Bug 783130] [NEW] Missing users on Ubuntu login screen

2011-05-16 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Ubuntu 11.04 64-bit.
Quite often when I switch on my computer and boot Ubuntu, when it gets to the
login screen, only my username appears.
There are 3 user accounts on this computer and my account was the first one
created during Ubuntu installation.
I've seen it happen many times - only my username appears on the list, but when
I reboot, the next time the login screen appears, it then shows all 3 users.
On my old computer when I had Ubuntu 10.10 64-bit, I never had this problem and
I would always see the 3 user accounts on the login screen list.

Public bug reported:

I have two instances of the applet: one for eth0 and one for wlan0.
Upon login randomly, but mostly always one or both applets crash, and a message
offering to remove the applet is displayed, occasionally two of these messages
are presented.
The .xsession-errors contains what seems to be a clue:
** (gnome-panel:3065): WARNING **: Failed to load applet

I am not sure whether this can be related to the fact, that the

[Bug 722875] Re: [natty] evolution does not work with proxy

2011-05-16 Thread Noel Shelton
I suspect this is the same as bug 773908
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evolution/+bug/773908. No
resolution, but it seems that if you start Evolution with the gnome
proxy settings set to Direct Connect, then change the proxy settings
back after Evolution starts, it continues to work and the apps that need
the prosy setting work as well. This has worked for me. Since I run
Evolution 24/7, the only time I need to play this trick on Evolution is
after booting. Hopes this helps.

[Bug 724999] Re: evolution hangs desktop when previewing/opening some contacts

2011-05-16 Thread Nausser
I have a similar issue on two different laptops running 11.04 with the
Unity desktop. The first is an HP netbook with a clean install. The
second is my own laptop which is an Acer that I've been using Ubuntu as
my only OS since 8.04. It was an upgrade from 10.10.

I do not have to do anything special on either machine to have Evolution
crash my Unity desktop. On my own Acer laptop, I never even get to see
the email program. The only things I can click on are the File Edit
View etc at the top when I hover my mouse. I then can go to File
Quit/Close to terminate the program. When the Evolution email program is
in focus, it absolutely locks up the entire desktop and makes the pop
out program menu on the left of the screen grind to a near halt.

It seems puzzling to me how a desktop change (one that I favor), can
cause an email program not to function. This certainly needs to be
resolved soon. Email communication is of top importance and I am dead in
the water right now with exception to my phone which isn't too great for
responding to many emails in a short and efficient amount of time.

I know I could be supplying more details of my install. I thought it was
a fluke incident with the HP net book. Now that I know the issue is even
worse on my computer, I would have to guess it isn't machine related so
much as a bug in the software that has been introduced. Please let me
know of any reports or other information that would be helpful to
expedite the solution to this issue. I don't have constant access to the
HP net book, only my own Acer laptop.

Thank you.

I can confirm that adding the /etc/services solves the problem as well.
So is this just a packaging issue?

[Bug 783465] [NEW] Empathy failed to stop and failes to start after force stop

2011-05-16 Thread Vadász Zoltán B .
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

After a network outing and suspend Empathy failed to connect to my jabber
account with the error message something like: No reason!
I used the Empathy menu to quit the program and the indicator to start it. It
did not start. I checked, the processes and found some empathy-related
component still run:

user 14119 1 0 May13 ?00:00:00 /usr/bin/empathy-accounts

[Bug 779509] Re: keyboard layout settings not remembered

2011-05-16 Thread Gilles Tournier
It sounds to me that the installer package is doing weird things and perhaps
adding unwanted keyboard maps as a default...then this layout becomes a
system-wide default that cannot be removed or changed!
At least, I experienced the same problem as your Natty server installation but
with Natty Desktop francophone CD: at install time I chose the fr_CH layout,
but it added the Suisse keyboard (a swiss german generic layout) and now it's
always the default and I cannot get rid of it.
It seems to me that the Maverick install CD was better, because I ended up with
only one keymap, which was the one I chose.
But this bug of not remembering this setting across reboot already existed: I
played a bit with these settings under Maverick and I saw that if I added one
more keyboard layout, I couldn't get rid of it afterwards. I cannot experiment
this in the same way with Natty, because regardless of what keymap I asked for
during install, it will always add another unwanted one.
Could you please comfirm this behaviour with you Natty desktop environment : if
you add one more layout, can you get rid of it afterwards?
NB: be sure to backup your volume beforehand, as this cannot be reversed after
if the bug happens!

[Bug 783354] [NEW] notification icons do not respond when clicked on directly

2011-05-16 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When I click on the email icon, or any notification icon to the left of
it, there is no response whatsoever. However the clock icon and
everything to the right of it are working just fine. I have to click on
the clock icon, or any icon to the right of it, and slide the cursor to
the left to get the volume icon, and all the following icons to the
left, to respond.

I have searched diligently for a solution, or even for others with the
issue, but have come up with nothing.

Re: [Bug 781070] Re: no help in Date/Time

2011-05-16 Thread gerti
Hi Jeremy,

yes I know, but the clock did not synchronize correctly; that was the
reason, why I installed system-config-date.

The clock was often wrong by 15 sec up to several hours.

Strangely enough uninstalling system-config-date an hour ago, seemed
to have done something good, because the clock was spot-on, until 10
minutes ago; now its skewed approx 6 minutes (:^((.

I don't think its my HW, as I never saw this problem before installing
11.4.

regards gerti

Gerti, thanks for submitting the screenshot. I recommend you uninstall
sysytem-config-date as it's no longer the recommended way to configure
 your system clock in Ubuntu.

In Ubuntu (Unity), you can change the time by clicking the clock and
  selecting Time Date Settings.
In Ubuntu Classic, you can change the time by right-clicking on the
 clock and selecting Preferences

I am going to go ahead and close this bug since I think this issue is
resolved. Thanks again for reporting this!

[Bug 783490] [NEW] Gnome panel shows on an external projector/monitor in Ubuntu 11.04

2011-05-16 Thread Antonio Roberts
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

In Ubuntu 10.10 (and possibly previous versions), when I connected my
laptop to an external source (monitor/projector) and set it not to clone
my desktop the display on the external source would not show the
(gnome-)panel (just a full-screen desktop with no icons).

Since upgrading to Ubuntu 11.04 (using Unity) when I now connect the

the previous behaviour in 11.04?

[Bug 494373] Re: gnome-network-properties sets $http_proxy incorrectly

2011-05-16 Thread Hakan GÜVEN
it is still present in 11.04 production.

since i am visiting several customers, i need to save their proxy
information. Although i saved the authentication credentials, it does
not do any good and i t makes me to ask customer to enter the
username/password every time, for each different browser, mail client,
synaptic like tools which is not a good way.

gnome-network-propeties takes all the required parameters, host, port,
username, password but sets proxy only as host:port. It should be a one
line of code to fix just by adding username:password@host:port. I hope
it will be patched as soon as possible.

[Bug 783526] [NEW] Empathy + Unity, difficulty to get contacts list

2011-05-16 Thread John A Meinel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

I'm not sure if this is an Empathy or a Unity bug, so I'll target it to
both.

Pre-Unity, I had a shortcut to Empathy in my task bar. Clicking on it
would log into my favorite IRC chat channels, and show the Contacts
list. I would generally clos the Contacts list, since it was an empty
box anyway.

Once it was closed, the way to get the Contacts List back was to re-
launch Empathy.

With Unity, clicking on the Empathy icon in the dock doesn't launch the
application (nor is it accessible from the right-click menu). (I can re-
launch it from Super-A Empathy, click).

The global-menu for the Conversation window does not have a way to open
the Contacts List.

This problem is definitely not limited to evince. Can anyone tell me what I
should do next, please? So far I have received no response at all. Thanks.
I cannot even get out of the screen when it locks by using the special CRTL SYS
RQ key combinations which would at least indicate that I have something that
even prevents the kernel operating correctly - at least this is what I think.

2011-05-16 Thread Jon Monreal
Hello again,

I haven't experienced the problem very recently but the next time I do,
I'll make sure to get the relevant bits.

As it stands, my .xsession-errors is over 30MB in size, apparently
mainly due to some programs I've run in Wine.

Thanks.

[Bug 553162] Re: Set $LANGUAGE if the user picks a different locale in gdm, so that language-selector and gdm stop disagreeing

2011-05-16 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
@Kevin
Yes, I remember that you were confused by system vs. user specific level.
Language Support Help, which you can reach by clicking the Help button at the
bottom left of the Language Support window, will hopefully contribute to reduce
similar confusion henceforth. Also, at the UDS in Budapest it was decided to
let a design team review the work flow and UI of Language Support.

Do you have a specific suggestion in mind?

@Kentaro
In Lucid and Maverick, choosing a locale for regional formats, that does not
match the selected language, often leads to unexpected results, which I suppose
that your special code in .gnomerc and .zshenv aims at correcting. In Natty
that code ought to be redundant, since the problems have been fixed, so you
should be able to remove the special code without any undesired behavior.

[Bug 392122] Re: dim display when idle only dims but doesn't restore the previous value when not idle anymore

2011-05-16 Thread Justyn Butler
Have you tried unchecking the reduce backlight brightness option in
power management?

I was seeing this problem under Ubuntu 11.04 on my 2nd-gen Core i7
laptop, that after dimming the brightness would always increase only to
50% regardless of what I had set the brightness to before.

However when I uncheck the reduce backlight brightness box for on
battery power (which automatically reduces backlight when you
disconnect from the AC supply) the dimming works as expected and
afterwards returns my brightness to whatever level it was before it
dimmed.

[Bug 13983] Re: Evolution virtual trash / real trash on IMAP server

2011-05-16 Thread Leeq
Like Jochen said, this feature is still not supported. I tried with both
IMAP and IMAP+ on Evolution 2.32.2. The mail server is Exchange 2010.

In help manual, it says When you press Delete or click the Trash folder, your
mail is not actually deleted, but is marked for deletion. Your email is
recoverable until you have expunged your mail.
Also, However, this is not true for the Trash folder on Exchange servers,
which behaves just the same as it does in Outlook. It is a normal folder with
actual messages in it. For more information about search folders, see Using
Search Folders.

I was expecting to read how to move mails to Deleted Items folder when
I press the delete key, but it only says to read about Search folders,
which is irrelevant.

Right now, when I press the Delete key, the mail is simply marked as deleted
and appears in the virtual folder. Even after pressing F9(send/receive), I
couldn't find the deleted mails in OWA(Outlook Web Access) or on my mobile
phone's mail app.
In Mail Preferences, Delete Mail section does not have any relevant options.
It has only options related to expunge behavior and empty trash on exit.

Sorry if I missed anything, but after investing fair amount of time, I could
only conclude that this bug is not fixed.
This problem does not exist in Claws, Zimbra and Outlook.
