You do miss the point. Ubuntu comes with GNOME, not KDE, LXDE etc. and
gnome-panel and compiz are officially supported, not something in
 universe.

Second of all, DX have been looking into this issue.

why no one in DX team asked a test or more info?

Because I can reproduce it and have been trying to figure out why it
happens. Give it some time.

we will re-prioritise to get this in for the next SRU.

[Bug 787778] Re: Last update of librsvg makes the system not recognize some image types

2011-05-25 Thread Harry
I have upgraded both librsvg (2.34.0-0ubuntu4)
and gdk-pixbuf (2.23.3-0ubuntu3) packages.

I do not have any issues with png nor svg image rendering.
But I still get en error during the upgrading process of both librsvg and
gdkpixbuf:
Postinstallation script error, error on configuring librsvg2-common.

This leaves the librsvg2-common unconfigured and thus not fully installed.
That message I get running deborphan for example.

[Bug 787694] [NEW] GNOME 3 System Settings: Allow Python Programs (or general programs) as embedded capplet

2011-05-25 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: gnome

GNOME 3 comes with a new System Settings environment which ships many
completely new, written from scratch system configuration utilities. The
previously used utilities often contain a lot of developer experience
and so are far superior in terms of usability. To get this conserved in
the GNOME of Oneiric one would need to rewrite these tools completely,
often converting them from Python to C. This will introduce a lot of new
bugs, waste a lot of developer time or the tools get replaced by the new
GNOME tool and many bugs fixed in the old tool get reported again.

To avoid this necessity of the re-invention of the wheel we need the
possibility, at least for Ubuntu, to replace selected GNOME tools by the
separate tools which were used in Natty and earlier. For this we need at
least a possibility to embed Python programs in the System Settings, for
example by some kind of wrapper applet. Even better would be a
possibility to embed general X applications.

The problem came up with system-config-printer. See
https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/desktop-o-system-config-
printer-vs-gnome-3-control-center

[Bug 787703] [NEW] GNOME 3 System Settings: Hide printer setup tool and add icon to launch system-config-printer in a separate window

2011-05-25 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: gnome

It is about the problem described in this Blueprint:

https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/desktop-o-system-config-
printer-vs-gnome-3-control-center

GNOME 3 comes with the new System Settings environment and in there is a
new printer setup tool written from scratch. This does not contain all
the 10 years of experience of Tim Waugh and me to work around
shortcomings of CUPS and printer drivers to make printer setup easy, and
also not the automatic download of drivers via OpenPrinting. To avoid
getting all the bug reports again about things which got fixed in
system-config-printer or rewriting system-config-printer in C, waisting
a lot of developer time and getting a lot of new bugs we could go a very
simple way in Ubuntu: Hide the GNOME 3 printer setup tool and add an
icon to the system settings which opens system-config-printer in a
separate window.

Best would be to solve bug 787694, but if this gets too complicated we
should fix this bug which is option #1 of the Blueprint.

Alex,

this would happen if ~/.xsession-errors is not a regular file, i. e.
symlink to a nonexisting file, or a pipe or something. So in your case
/dev/null is not S_ISREG, so it would fall back to creating a new file.

[Bug 762918] Re: Natty Screensaver freezes system after some period of inactivity

2011-05-25 Thread Xavier
Additional info (I am using an Intel GPU, floaters screensaver with
custom image) : when the screen hangs, the mouse cursor still reacts. I
manage to find the password field, type it, and unlock the screen (the
same result can be obtained with gnome-screensaver-command on another
tty).

Once I have unlocked the screen, the display doesn't change (still the
frozen floaters), but the mouse cursor clearly shows it is now hovering
over my desktop (particularly my maximized web browser window). This is
why I would also blame the X server.

[Bug 576744] Re: Unable to modify brightness when the screen is locked

2011-05-25 Thread Onno Steenbergen
This bug affects me as well.

There are a lot of use cases where this happens either a user disables
the screen (working on a second monitor) or the automatic features
disable it. If the PC/laptop is then locked there is no way of enabling
the backlight.

This should be enabled for the main shortcuts like:
- Backlight
- Keyboard backlight
- Volume

And could be enabled for the media buttons (play/pause)

I experience this bug multiple times a week so as Tomi Pieviläinen said
the importance could be higher.

2011-05-25 Thread Daniël van Eeden
The microphone mute button needs:
- Support in linux
- Support in high level tools (There is no key binding in GNOME for microphone
mute a.t.m.)

The microphone mute button also has a LED(-like) indicator which also
needs support.

The LED(-like) indicator for the 'normal' mute button can easily get out
of sync with the indicator-sound-service one.

[Bug 408903] Re: Thinkpad T400s, T410s, T410, T510 microphone mute button does not work

2011-05-25 Thread Zygmunt Krynicki
The LED(-like) indicator for the 'normal' mute button can easily get out
of sync with the indicator-sound-service one.

I think this is a separate and valid bug. The LED indicator should be
controlled by alsa when sound is becomes mute.

[Bug 767095] Re: 1 pixel icons in notification-area-applet when compiz is the windows manager

2011-05-25 Thread Tehnick
@tkoun
how is your skype icon doing? mine I don't know because I can't see it!
just to prove that as a matter of fact the funny critique that you call noise
is better than just pr noise...

I don't use Skype at all. Also I didn't see such bug in Debian. I am
maintainer of eiskaltdcpp package from Debian and I subscribed to this
bug report only because it affects to Ubuntu users of our program.
Unfortunaly, I haven't got free time to install Ubuntu to find solution
of this bug. But I believe that Ubuntu developers enough qualified to
fix this defect in the nearest future.

PS: sorry for offtop.

[Bug 787778] Re: Last update of librsvg makes the system not recognize some image types

2011-05-25 Thread Anders Kaseorg
Ah, I misread your version number. I’m pretty sure the only thing that
could cause librsvg2-common.postinst to exit with an error status is if
‘dpkg-architecture -qDEB_HOST_MULTIARCH’ failed, so this is probably a
slightly different bug. Can you please file a new bug report?

[Bug 706931] Re: repeated asking to verify a certificate. enough already, I already approved it!!

2011-05-25 Thread Kevin Smith
By accident, I discovered that clicking Continue without checking the
box still leaves the connection functional. It seems that the app is
remembering the setting in terms of connecting, and only forgetting in
terms of popping up the dialog.

The good news is that clicking Continue is far easier than clicking
the checkbox and then Continue. So this bug is less irritating now than
it was before I found this shortcut.

apply.

@UbuntuTeam:
unless there is some Unity related concern requiring compiz 0.9.4, PLEASE
consider reverting to compiz 0.8.6 in natty (as per Guiodic's workaround) as
solution to this crippling bug which seems not so easy to fix and leave compiz

following changes:

* non-standard weekday abbreviations are replaced with standard ones
* non-standard month abbreviations are replaced with standard ones (based on
Roman numerals)
* middle-endian format (never used in Poland) is replaced with the little-endian
one (by far the most popular)
* standard padding is introduced, i.e. h:m:s are zero-padded, day of the month
is not padded
* fields are properly separated

With the patch, dates are displayed as:

Pn, 6 VIII 1984, 01:23:45 CEST

which matches the most common usage.

Please notice that the abbreviations are no longer fixed-width. Since this is
also the case in several other locales, I suppose it is not a problem.

well, you could use that for the long format, but it seems not
convenient for the short (abbreviated) format. Both day names and month
names are variable length.

My understanding is also that day and month names in Polish are spelled
with small initial letters.

Please notice that the abbreviations are no longer fixed-width. Since this is
also the case in several other locales, I suppose it is not a problem.

The recommendation is that the abbreviated format be fixed
format/lenght, as this is intended to be used in log messages.

best regards
Keld

[Sorry for delay, I have been on vacation for the last few days.]

First, some background to answer Mr. Drepper's and Mr. Simonsen's
questions.

Weekdays:

Weekday abbreviations are not part of any official standard. They ones described
above are, however, used nearly universally in calendars.

Examples of use:

* http://kalendarz.pwn.pl/ [calendar of PWN (Polish Scientific Publishers),
publisher of the largest and most authoritative Polish-language encyclopedias
and dictionaries]
* http://lot.pl/ [timetable of LOT, the largest Polish airline]

Please note that these abbreviations can only appear standalone or as part of a
standalone date (and yes, while Polish weekday names are lowercase, they are
not). To abbreviate weekday names in an intertextual context (which would be
quite uncommon), one would have to use an ad hoc abbreviation following standard
rules, i.e. match the case of the word, end with a consonant, and be followed by
a dot, e.g. 'poniedziałek' could be abbreviated as 'pn.', 'pon.', or 'poniedz.'.

Date:

Modern dictionaries of Polish language allow the following date
abbreviations:

* 6 VIII 1984 (older dictionaries also allowed 6.VIII.1984)
*

Not sure which one is causing it to still happen but I'll try disabling VBlank.

[Bug 720647] Re: gvfsd-ftp crashed with SIGSEGV in start_thread()

2011-05-25 Thread Alexander Heuer
For me it's enough to open a FTP bookmark I added to nautilus and copy a file
from my PC to the FTP directory.
File transfers, dialog window stays on screen, FTP mount is automatically
unmounted
Works every time

Also I get the same problem when copying files to a USB Stick or MP3
Player which especially in the case of the player is annoying.

Copying files locally or to NFS mounts works flawlessly though...

[Bug 673588] Re: Yelp fails to launch

2011-05-25 Thread Eliah Kagan
I don't believe so. I apologize for leaving this alone for so long; I
should have marked it Invalid or Fix Released when William Moon never
replied to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/yelp/+bug/673588/comments/9.

I don't have either of the Natty systems that I was using at that time,
but I do have a Lubuntu Natty system installed with the stable Natty
Alternate i386 CD (I installed a command-line only system and then
installed the package lubuntu-desktop) which is somewhat similar to the
system on which I first experienced the problem. This system does not
have the problem.

The only reason I'm not changing this bug's status with my post is that
I'm not sure if it should be marked Fix Released or Invalid.

[Bug 664611] Re: Yelp -- segmentation fault -- dir file format error?

2011-05-25 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the
crash report you wish to submit.
If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with
'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is
the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed
to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug
/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.
