[Bug 787694] [NEW] GNOME 3 System Settings: Allow Python Programs (or general programs) as embedded capplet
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Binary package hint: gnome GNOME 3 comes with a new System Settings environment which ships many completely new, written from scratch system configuration utilities. The previously used utilities often contain a lot of developer experience and so are far superior in terms of usability. To get this conserved in the GNOME of Oneiric one would need to rewrite these tools completely, often converting them from Python to C. This will introduce a lot of new bugs, waste a lot of developer time or the tools get replaced by the new GNOME tool and many bugs fixed in the old tool get reported again. To avoid this necessity of the re-invention of the wheel we need the possibility, at least for Ubuntu, to replace selected GNOME tools by the separate tools which were used in Natty and earlier. For this we need at least a possibility to embed Python programs in the System Settings, for example by some kind of wrapper applet. Even better would be a possibility to embed general X applications. The problem came up with system-config-printer. See https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/desktop-o-system-config- printer-vs-gnome-3-control-center ** Affects: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu) Importance: High Status: Confirmed -- GNOME 3 System Settings: Allow Python Programs (or general programs) as embedded capplet https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/787694 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 787703] [NEW] GNOME 3 System Settings: Hide printer setup tool and add icon to launch system-config-printer in a separate window
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Binary package hint: gnome It is about the problem described in this Blueprint: https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/desktop-o-system-config- printer-vs-gnome-3-control-center GNOME 3 comes with the new System Settings environment and in there is a new printer setup tool written from scratch. This does not contain all the 10 years of experience of Tim Waugh and me to work around shortcomings of CUPS and printer drivers to make printer setup easy, and also not the automatic download of drivers via OpenPrinting. To avoid getting all the bug reports again about things which got fixed in system-config-printer or rewriting system-config-printer in C, waisting a lot of developer time and getting a lot of new bugs we could go a very simple way in Ubuntu: Hide the GNOME 3 printer setup tool and add an icon to the system settings which opens system-config-printer in a separate window. Best would be to solve bug 787694, but if this gets too complicated we should fix this bug which is option #1 of the Blueprint. ** Affects: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu) Importance: High Status: Confirmed -- GNOME 3 System Settings: Hide printer setup tool and add icon to launch system-config-printer in a separate window https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/787703 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 706931] Re: repeated asking to verify a certificate. enough already, I already approved it!!
By accident, I discovered that clicking Continue without checking the box still leaves the connection functional. It seems that the app is remembering the setting in terms of connecting, and only forgetting in terms of popping up the dialog. The good news is that clicking Continue is far easier than clicking the checkbox and then Continue. So this bug is less irritating now than it was before I found this shortcut. Both day names and month names are variable length. My understanding is also that day and month names in Polish are spelled with small initial letters. Please notice that the abbreviations are no longer fixed-width. Since this is also the case in several other locales, I suppose it is not a problem. The recommendation is that the abbreviated format be fixed format/lenght, as this is intended to be used in log messages. best regards Keld Reply at: https://bugs.launchpad.net/evolution/+bug/58210/comments/5 On 2006-09-09T16:27:23+00:00 Drepper-fsp wrote: You have to provide evidence. To abbreviate weekday names in an intertextual context (which would be quite uncommon), one would have to use an ad hoc abbreviation following standard rules, i.e. match the case of the word, end with a consonant, and be followed by a dot, e.g. 'poniedziałek' could be abbreviated as 'pn.', 'pon.', or 'poniedz.'. I don't believe so.
