[Bug 676793] Re: Need to Double-Click ISO Images TWICE Before Brasero Opens to Burn to Disc

2011-08-22 Thread OzzyFrank
Well, if I had something to report in the last 60 days, I would have. I
can say that the record is now 9 times before the burn dialogue would
pop up, so definitely not getting any better! System updated/upgraded,
but still persists in a major way - there is not one single time the
dialogue has appeared on a single double-click.

[Bug 830872] [NEW] All contacts relative to Google Accounts have disappeared from Empathy

2011-08-22 Thread Volans
Public bug reported:

I'm creating this bug report based on the question #168705 because I
have this problem too.

After an Ubuntu update 2 days ago, my google chat contacts have
disappeared from Empathy. My chat status however shows as 'available'.
I'm also visible to my contacts and they're able to initiate chats with
me..

I'm running a 64bit version of Ubuntu 10.04.3 LTS with empathy
2.30.3-0ubuntu1.

From my apt logs the last update that I have done was:
Start-Date: 2011-08-19 11:07:08

Upgrade:

firefox-trunk (8.0~a1~hg20110814r75274+nobinonly-0ubuntu1~umd1~lucid,

9.0~a1~hg20110817r75407+nobinonly-0ubuntu1~umd1~lucid),
firefox-branding (3.6.18+build2+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.10.04.2,
3.6.20+build1+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.10.04.1),
firefox (3.6.18+build2+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.10.04.2,
3.6.20+build1+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.10.04.1),
xulrunner-1.9.2 (1.9.2.18+build2+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.10.04.1,

firefox-gnome-support (3.6.18+build2+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.10.04.2,
3.6.20+build1+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.10.04.1)

When I have restarted the computer and thus Empathy, the problem
appeared for the first time.

[Bug 720647] Re: gvfsd-ftp crashed with SIGSEGV in start_thread()

2011-08-22 Thread Roman Yagodin
Same problem appears when I try to duplicate file(s) on a ftp share via
gvfs-ftp. Problem persists since upgrade from Maverick to Natty.

I consider importance of the bug must be set to High, cause it makes
ftp in nautilus almost completely broken. Switching to another ftp
client like FileZilla doesn't add usability to Ubuntu Desktop,
especially when it goes to work with files in different locations at
same time (copy from nautilus smb share to ftp, e.g.)

[Bug 818857] Re: _pygi_argument_from_g_value: code should not be reached

Why is this invalid, Andrea? Different plugins can crash Gedit, that
should not be possible.

You conclusion seems premature.

Here's a traceback just using the new LaTeX plugin:

2011-08-22 Thread Sebastien Bacher
seems it was deleted from Oneiric and then added back during the cycle:

source package now. We keep this one to build libgladeui-1-{dev,11} for
GTK2.

[Bug 812394] Re: Disable suspend/hibernate options when they are not supported

2011-08-22 Thread John Lea
Ok, I have discussed this with Jason W and I think we have a final
decision on this item for Oneiric:

1. Suspend is enabled by default on all computers. A option to disable
Suspend is shown in the power indicator, see
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Power

2. Hibernate is disabled by default on all computers, unless the
computer is on a whitelist. The whitelist should include all Ubuntu
Certified ( http://www.ubuntu.com/certification/ ) computers on which
hibernate is tested regularly and proven to work. Perhaps in the
future this list could also be augmented by a community certification
process? A user can re-enable hibernate at any time by going to the
power settings, as shown in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Power

cheers,
John

[Bug 812394] Re: Disable hibernate option when it is not supported

2011-08-22 Thread Martin Pitt
Retitling and reopening as per previous comment.

However, I still don't understand the rationale for having a machine
type whitelist.; see (2) in comment 5. Do we have hard data that
hibernation is consistently broken on some particular hardware, and the
reason isn't just partitioning?

My gut feeling is that we should just disable hibernation by default,
period (and perhaps provide an Ui configuration bit to enable it).
Maintaining and checking a whitelist will just cause a lot of
unnecessary effort which won't actually help a lot.

** Summary changed:

- Disable suspend/hibernate options when they are not supported
+ Disable hibernate option when it is not supported

** Changed in: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu)

[Bug 463314] Re: gdm ignores timed/auto login on all but first greeter run

2011-08-22 Thread hamish
@Charlie Kravetz: read the full bug log and try it for yourself. it is
still broken in xubuntu 11.04 which makes ubuntu an unusable option for
kiosk installations where auto-relogin must happen.

in my books that's a rather serious problem.

see subject change by Kees Cook (kees) on 2009-12-03 which diverges
from the chatter in the original report and first bunch of messages in
the report.

i.e. gdm ignores timed/auto login on all but first greeter run ...
it does!

(this is not invalid. this has nothing to do with upgrading any more;
tested on a new install)

thanks,
Hamish

[Bug 367037] Re: Error while burning - some files may be corrupted on the disc

2011-08-22 Thread John Kennaugh
My experience is that until recently CD/DVD Creator has always worked however
last time I used it I ended up with CDs which had the correct directory
structure and correct file sizes but unreadable *.jpg. files. The program was
unable to eject the CD and when I did - as instructed - I got the message some
files may be corrupted. I suspect the problem may have been caused when I
recently upgraded via the update manager from 10.04 to 10.10. I don't recall
having burned any CDs before this attempt since that upgrade.
What is somewhat bizarre is that according to the software centre CD/DVD
creator and Brasero are listed separately as if they are different applications
and Brasero is down as supported and CD/DVD creator isn't. CD/DVD creator 'more
info' does not mention Brasero.
When I insert a blank CD it offers to open CD/DVD Creator and if I select
open with it does not offer me Brasero yet Brasero is listed in my
applications menu and CD/DVD Creator isn't.
According to the software centre CD/DVD Creator is not installed. on my
computer and Brasero is.

I have experienced the same problem with a fresh installation of Ubuntu 11.04
natty.
I have fixed it with the following:

*
Workaround: Edit /usr/share/themes/Ambiance/metacity-1/metacity-theme-1.xml.
Set the following values in frame_geometry_normal as desired:

distance name=left_width value=3/
distance name=right_width value=3/
distance name=bottom_height value=3/
*

[Bug 463314] Re: gdm ignores timed/auto login on all but first greeter run

2011-08-22 Thread Charlie Kravetz
hamish: Perhaps you should read what I really wrote above. This bug is
in GDM, which may affect each distribution. Let's remember, Xubuntu is
not Ubuntu, and mixing these does make it much more confusing to
determine what is really being used. As you state, it is still broken
in xubuntu 11.04 which makes ubuntu an unusable option is not a valid
argument. Xubuntu 11.04 is not Ubuntu, it derived from Ubuntu. Let's
attempt to keep these separate. A bug in GDM can affect all
distributions that use it. It is still a bug in GDM.

Are they technically infeasible or could they be implemented with some
effort? If so, where should they be implemented?

They can be implemented with some effort, but its difficult when
you're not compositing because its another set of windows to be
tracking (you can't reparent an InputOutput window into an InputOnly
window, which means that you can't abuse reparenting like we do in
compiz in order to do this easily)

They'd belong in metacity in that case.

   No more comments needed

This should mostly be fixed for Natty and might get backported to
  earlier releases as well.

  *

  *Blueprint for Natty, Ubuntu 11.04:

  https://blueprints.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/packageselection-
  dx-n-resizing-windows

  Work items1 * Make sure the new resize grip fits in current applications;
doesn't interfere with anything. We should make some noise about this during
the Natty cycle so people keep their eyes open and file bugs.
2 * Invisible window resize area - around 3px invisible area to allow resize
 on all sides.

  *

Working grip backported to gtk2 already available in ppa :
  https://launchpad.net/~bratsche/+archive/gtk

  *

  Workaround:  Edit /usr/share/themes/Ambiance/metacity-1/metacity-
theme-1.xml.  Set the following values in frame_geometry_normal as
  desired:

  distance name=left_width value=3/
  distance name=right_width value=3/
  distance name=bottom_height value=3/

  Binary package hint: metacity

  - The issue has been an issue for users (especially of large) screens
for several releases- Trackpad users seem to be particularly impacted
by this- The issue appears to have been significantly aggravated in
Lucid by changing the border width from 3 pixels to 1 pixel

The window borders in metacity are far too thin to be used for
comfortable window resizing, and resize handles are not available in
all applications (or even most). In fact, of all the windows I have
open right now, not a single one of them has a resize handle. The
result is that I get a lot of misses when I try to drag a window
border, which usually results in my clicking on the wrong window
altogether. The best fix for this usability bug is to create an
invisible region around each non-maximized window about 4px thick
that can be used for resizing (in addition to the visible border). Or
perhaps there should be a border thickness option on the System
Preferences Windows dialog (although the default thickness should
still be increased considerably). Ideally all windows would also have
a resize handle but I realize that these have to be application
controlled (at least that seems to be the position of the metacity
  team).

They will be back once we work out what caused the performance
problems in the unity decorator (xrender is really really slow on

[Bug 831342] [NEW] Unable to install Lexmark S605 printer with Ubuntu

2011-08-22 Thread Bill Wells
Public bug reported:

I have contacted Ubuntu and Lexmark and got no help from either; I
tried search engine for printer driver download and got several pages
of info, including one for Lexmark S605; didn't work. Tried entering
their host631 or some such and got page after page of reports from
others who tried it and said it doesn't work or doesn't even exist. I
like my S605, so, given a choice, I will dump Ubuntu and keep my
Lexmark; or maybe I'll dump both and stop hassling with them as thkeir
tecks are no help at all!

[Bug 831341] [NEW] can't open empathy chat windows

2011-08-22 Thread Joe Barnett
Public bug reported:

as of relatively recently in oneiric, empathy chat dialogs no longer
open.

double clicking a contact in the contact list opens a gnome-shell
message tray bubble, but clicking on that bubble doesn't open an empathy
chat dialog.

there appears to be no way to enter a group chat, and clicking on room
- group chat name does nothing.

[Bug 389857] Re: inhibit applet does not inhibit some user initiated events

2011-08-22 Thread Oded Arbel
Noel: thanks for providing this applet replacement - its a shame I
wasn't aware of this before. Due to this and a few other issues I
migrated my laptop to KDE on Fedora so this issue is no longer relevant
for me.

That being said, I tested this applet on my desktop running Oneiric with
Gnome Classic session, and it looks to be working fine for inhibiting
the screen lock. I of course couldn't test the laptop lid action which
is what I was interested in the first place, and also the UI is not as
simple as the original inhibit applet - It would have been great if the
icon would update to show some icon other then the inhibiting icon
when there are no inhibiting options enabled.

[Bug 831427] [NEW] Brasero ask me to open the CD trail, althoug it is already open

2011-08-22 Thread alkayata
Public bug reported:

When I try to copy a CD, brasero writes the image to the hard disk, and
then ejects the Cd. However, a pop-up window opens asking me to open the
CD trail, since he can not open it. As I said before, the CD has been
already ejected. The pop-up window has an only Cancel button. If I
press it the program exits, leaving the image and some other files in
the /tmp folder.

The complete message of the pop-up window in spanish is: No se puede
expulsar el disco aunque debe extraerse para que la operación actual
pueda continuar.

[Bug 676828] Re: Contacts does not show up in empathy contact list

2011-08-22 Thread Steve Corbett
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 558872 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/558872

I've switched to Pidgin for now, which appears to have no problem
displaying my google talk contacts. I don't think the problem is on
google's side, Philippe, I think there's definitely something wrong with
Empathy. I also don't think this bug should be marked as a duplicate of
558872.

[Bug 831501] [NEW] incorrect abbreviations of GB, MB, KB in UI (extra 'i')

2011-08-22 Thread Aron Insinga
Public bug reported:

The UI has GiB, MiB, KiB as abbreviations for what I presume are GB, MB, and KB.
That makes no more sense than using Kim (instead of km) for kilometer.
I assume that you are correctly using B for byte, even in network bandwidth.
(If you mean bit, then it should be b and not B.)
MB - megabyte
Mb - megabit
etc.
