[Bug 893885] Re: Not possible to disable save password in network manager

2011-11-23 Thread nathanvda
I am having the same problem here. We are using a device to generate an
OTP, so my password is unique everytime I log on, so automatically
saving the password is actually a hassle for me. I can understand the
default would be to automatically save the password, but isn't there
some option to turn that off?

[Bug 13983] Re: Evolution virtual trash / real trash on IMAP server

2011-11-23 Thread Jochen Fahrner
Boleslaw, you misunderstand. A protocol has nothing to do with a user
interface. These are two distinct things.
Look at the POP-protocol: it has no folders, it has no trash and it is not
designed to leave mail on the server. But many mail clients have local folders,
local trash, and leave mail on the server. The protocol is only the transport
mechanism for mail, it has nothing to do with the way a mail client offers mail
to the user.

Now look at IMAP. Many old clients used it similar as POP, they fetched
mail from the server as they did with POP. Folders were only local in
these old clients. Modern clients work different, they leave mail on the
server, they use folders on the server, and since trash is only a normal
folder, they can move deleted mails to the trash folder on the server.
Why should they restrict the user interface to the technical limits of
the underlying protocol? There is no reason to do that.

[Bug 534985] Re: Gnome print dialog box poll for printer info every time it's opened

2011-11-23 Thread Jakob Unterwurzacher
Disabling dnssd didn't help here on 10.04. But this solved it for me (thanks
Dominik from bug 475845):
echo ServerName 127.0.0.1 /etc/cups/client.conf
(Note that this file probably does not exist beforehand. Also, you need to
restart your applications for it to take effect)

** Description changed:

- Binary package hint: system-config-printer
-
- When a printer is defined as a remote printer, using DNS-SD, each time
- you enter a gnome print dialog box, the dialog says : 'Getting printer
- information...'
-
- This phase sometimes takes several tens of seconds, making the printing
- process cumbersome...
+ When a printer is defined as a remote printer, using DNS-SD or not, each time
you enter a gnome print dialog box, the dialog says : 'Getting printer
information...'
+ This phase sometimes takes several tens of seconds, making the printing
process cumbersome...

Applications that don't use gnome print dialog (say openoffice for
example) don't suffer from this latency.

This behaviour appeared with Karmic Koala and is still here in Lucid
  alpha.

[Bug 893955] [NEW] Compose Email - Plain Text is anything but Plain

2011-11-23 Thread bleh
Public bug reported:

When composing a plain text email any text pasted into the email is
treated differently from text that is typed. This means that it can
become impossible to actually alter the text in any meaningful way, and
that the appearance of the email when composing differs greatly from
what is sent.

For example:

http://www.wired.com/threatlevel/2011/11/rootkit-brouhaha/

If you sloppily select the first paragraph to copy you will likely
select the story title and the tags and next/previous story links. When
you paste this into the email, the href status of the links remains
(they are blue) and much of the text is UNDELETABLE. I have attached an
image of the pasted text.

Compare this to the default 'Text Editor' application available on
Ubuntu (Accessories-Text Editor on a default install). When I paste
this same text into a new plain text document in that application the
text is exactly as I would expect it to be:

 * There is no formatting
 * There are no hrefs
 * There are no 'super' returns that take a massive amount of vertical space
 * None of the text is undeletable
**There is no way to tell the difference between the pasted text and text that
I have written**

If someone selects PLAIN TEXT then they want PLAIN TEXT. The Evolution
compose email editor is broken.

[Bug 878135] Re: /usr/lib/gio/modules/libgvfsdbus.so wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64

2011-11-23 Thread Martin Pitt
This is fixed in precise, by way of merging the new Debian package:

gvfs (1.10.1-1) experimental; urgency=low

  * Fix long description grammar. Closes: #648046.
  * New upstream release.
  * Bump/add build-dependencies: glib, gdu, libgcrypt, libbluray.
  * 02_deprecated.patch: updated for the new version.
  * 05_shared_libdaemon.patch: refreshed.
  * Install afp backend.
  * Drop gvfs.postinst, it’s been here in squeeze.
  * Make gvfs multiarch-compatible:
+ 01_modules_dir.patch: query the modules dir from gio instead of
  hardcoding it.
+ Split the gvfs package between all sub-components.
  - gvfs: holds the GIO module (multiarch: same)
  - gvfs-daemons: holds the daemons (multiarch: foreign)
  - gvfs-libs: holds common libraries (multiarch: same)
  - gvfs-common: holds data (multiarch: foreign, arch: all)
+ Update depends/breaks/replaces accordingly.
+ Prevent dh_makeshlibs from doing anything.
+ Add lintian overrides for the private library dir using rpath.

[Bug 294991] Re: SIP/Ekiga accounts don't store contacts

2011-11-23 Thread Jens Moser
I concur with saepia and elPraga. It is painful to see that a half-done
SIP program like Empathy made it into Ubuntu (no contacts = absolutely
useless in practice), replacing a working piece of software like Ekiga.

Please add this feature ASAP. On a side note, I don't quite understand
why contacts can only be stored if the plugin supports them. Contact
information is quite universal (see GNOME Contacts for example) and
should be stored by Empathy directly IMO.

[Bug 795475] Re: [iOS5 devices do not work] Unhandled lockdown error (-4)

2011-11-23 Thread katanacb
+1 for Maverick. It's still supported, and without getting into a long
off-thread debate about Unity and Gnome3, Maverick is still supported by
your own admission .. and it seems all that's needed is a (re)build of
the .deb that works for the other distros.

... or I could downgrade to Lucid but that seems like a huge effort just
to fix this one issue. I'm guessing that the source for the fix in
Natty is available, and could be built for Maverick on our own?

[Bug 729150] Re: libappindication crashes in gtkstatusicon code on update

2011-11-23 Thread launchpadmember
I apologies for my last comment. I just woke up and didn't quite have my brains
with me yet. It should be noted however that having status indications at the
top of the page that say fix released might be a little confusing to new
people, or experienced people who are in a sleep induced confused panic just
after they wake up like I was. Again my apologies, if there is a moderator
perhaps this message and the one before it can be removed from the thread so as
to keep it on topic.
Thanks.

[Bug 894006] Re: Troubles with printer.

2011-11-23 Thread Phil. V
Thanks for your bug report. I packaged this against CUPS, as it concerns a
printing problem. Could you please run the following command in a terminal:
apport-collect 894006

That will add relevant debugging and system information regarding
printing problems to your report, as this was originally packaged
against gedit.

Also, I see that your bug report isn't in English. Could you possibly
translate it? Most developers and bug triagers speak English, so having
the report in English will make it easier to work on.

hm.m. strike my lightdm comment above as I said that I saw it under

I just tested here on precise development system:

chmod 755 /tmp/go ;
xinit /tmp/go -- $(which Xephyr) :8

$ dpkg-query --show metacity xserver-xephyr

  Reproduce scenario :
   - left click on an applet
   - try the ^-Alt arrow to switch desktop

When an applet contextual menu is opened, you can't switch desktop with
keyboard shortcuts.
Normally,we should have a consistent behaviour in regards with the
workspace-selector applet, ie :
   - first ^-Alt-arrow (for the workspace-selector : click), the menu is
unfolded
   - second ^-Alt-arrow , we go to the next desktop

  ===

see bug 29894 for not being able to take screenshots when menu is open,
  another symptom of this bug.
+
+
+ --
+
+ Note from Design:
+
+ This is a critical bug, a user should be able to use a global keyboard
+ shortcut at any moment, including when a menu is open. In the unlikely
+ case that there is a conflict between the global keyboard shortcuts (
+ see
+ and the menu keyboard shortcuts, the menu keyboard shortcuts should take
+ precedence.

** Summary changed:

- Can't use any global keyboard shortcuts or hotkeys when applet/menu is open
+ Keyboard shortcuts, window management - Can't use any global keyboard
shortcuts or hotkeys when applet/menu is open

[Bug 881340] Re: master volume does not work with snd-hda-intel on HP Elite 8200

2011-11-23 Thread Lars Risan

It worked for me, on my Kubuntu 11.10, on a Dell Inspirion Zino HD.

Added
options snd-hda-intel model=dell

/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

The bug was only related to the master volume, that had no other
levels but 0% and 100% -- all other sound stuff worked fine, including
adjusting volume on individual channels, like Youtube or Amarok.

[Bug 664194] Re: reversed icons on forward/back buttons in Hebrew locale

2011-11-23 Thread Haggai Eran
Hi,

Could someone reopen this bug? It is not fixed in oneiric. I believe
there is some bug in gtk handling of stock icons's right-to-left
variants, since it seems that nautilus is asking for the
GTK_STOCK_GO_BACK and GTK_STOCK_GO_FORWARD, which should have support
for RTL variants, and the Humanity icon theme does contain links for
these variants (gtk-go-back-rtl and so on).

[Bug 894153] [NEW] Can't change Library name for DAAP Music sharing

2011-11-23 Thread Alex Moldovan
Public bug reported:

To reproduce:
Open Rhythmbox, go to Edit Plugins, click on DAAP Music Sharing Preferences

but I wasn't able to see if the signal to change the share name gets
triggered or not.

[Bug 894153] Re: Can't change Library name for DAAP Music sharing

2011-11-23 Thread David Bensimon
This worked in rhythmbox 0.12.8-0ubuntu7 (Lucid). This is therefore a
regression (most likely in the rhythmbox-plugins package).

[Bug 888365] Re: FTP timeout problems

2011-11-23 Thread Máté Majlinger
Hi,

I started to use Ubuntu a few months ago and switched to Bluefish
editor for programming purposes. Since I am constantly developing to a
remote server through an ftp connection, I come across this problem with
the gvfs every half hour, if not more often.

While saving program codes through the editor I receive an error message
quite often stating the following:

DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Did not receive a reply.
Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply,
the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout
expired, or the network connection was broken.

I have checked the issue on other forums, and it seems the ftp
connection simply dies after a period and reconnection is not done
properly on the first attempt of upload. Actually, the file is deleted,
then touched, but will not getting populated, and the program would not
respond for about 20 seconds.

Once I received the error, and click Ok, the second time of saving the
data is being uploaded all right. And this gets repeated again again.
Hard to define what is the time out period.

So providing more advanced settings when making a server connection
would be useful - especially timeout value and if the connection should
be kept alive.

And I have no idea why reconnection would fail for the first time.

Also I can see that many people have signed up to be notified about the
changes of this bug but only 3 of us have marked to be affected by it.
Can you please push it a bit more and maybe mark it as being affected if
you are?

And of course, thank you and respect for the support, keeping such a
close relationship with users and the all the work you have done so far.

Regards,

Máté

[Bug 727928] Re: Upon starting a program full screen, the window is immediately moved to the wrong monitor

2011-11-23 Thread Captain Chaos
I installed Oneiric Ocelot, and the problem still exists. It is still
the case that:

* I have to use the proprietary NVidia driver because the open source driver
STILL does not support multiple cards.
* I have to enable Xinerama to be able to drag windows between monitors. If I
don't I get completely separate desktops.
* If Xinerama is enabled 3D effects don't work. Ubuntu apparently doesn't
realise this and still tries to use the Ubuntu (in other words Unity 3D)
session by default, which doesn't work (it just hangs), leaving me unable to
log in.
* I have to install and use the GNOME Classic (no effects) session to be able
to log in at all.
* Which STILL moves every full screen window that opens to my left monitor
instead of the center one.

Why is it so hard to get Ubuntu to leave my windows alone and let them
stay on the monitor on which it opens?!

[Bug 894201] [NEW] Upgrade-tool is not upgrading but replacing

2011-11-23 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Description:Ubuntu 11.10
Release:11.10

Expected:
When I upgraded from 11.04 (Natty Narwhal) to 11.10 (Oneiric Ocelot) I expected
to continue to work as I was used to.

What happend:
I couldn't select the Ubuntu Classic session, NOR find a menu of all
applications, PLUS all my panel links were not there once I installed the
gnome-session-fallback package

Conclusion:
The upgrade tool installs the new Ocelot release without any option of using my
old settings, shortcuts or panels used in my previous Ubuntu Classic sessions.
This is BAD.
It's more like a new installation than an upgrade.
I'm not able to make people who are new to Ubuntu happy. There is no way they
find any of the programs, games, etc. They would have to KNOW the name!
For calculator its quite obvious but for something like Excel they can't find
it because Math or Open Office isn't something they'd look for.
So this upgrade is no upgrade at all if they lose the functionality.

This will lose me as Ubuntu user, and hold new users from becoming such.

[Bug 894217] [NEW] installed 11.10 - Dual Boot; unable to boot harddrive; Cannot reach Win XP

2011-11-23 Thread Jim Hudspeth
Public bug reported:

1) Downloaded 11.10 ISO file to Dell XP Workstation

2) Made bootable USB using Pendrivelinux

3) Installed to harddrive using option 1 (Install along side Windows)

4) Rebooted when instructed

5) Booted into Ubuntu just fine (first time)

6) Attempted restart - got first splash screen followed by input not
supported - tapped ESC and eventually got into Ubuntu

7) Later attempts failed - got input not supported; no eventual boot

8) Many retries holding / tapping various keys - same result

9) Booted from USB - all files appear to be in place - can access GRUB
on harddrive

10) Cannot open Windows files from USB boot.

[Bug 868400] Re: Synaptics touchpad stops working

2011-11-23 Thread florin
As I can see, the simple activation of touchpad works for all of us with
the bug in version 1, without window movement/etc.

I have uncheckd disabled touchpad while typing but writing is a
nightmare like this.

Does anyone know if thee is any solution to be seen soon?
