Just to note that it's not a file permission issue, it's on an ext4
partition and file permissions are properly set. If I try to open the
folder renamed (without .O) it works.

[Bug 1025496] Re: It does not open the preview and does not print

2012-07-17 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read How to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 160311] Re: Resizing windows by grabbing window borders is difficult

2012-07-17 Thread Jakob Unterwurzacher
** Description changed:

  *
   No more comments needed

This should mostly be fixed for Natty and might get backported to
  earlier releases as well.
+
+ For Precise (12.04) this is again broken for unity-2d (as of 17.7.2012
unity-2d 5.12.0-0ubuntu1.1).
+ Note that if the window has a scrollbar, you can grab that to resize the
window. If not, you are stuck with the 1px border. Workaround: NONE KNOWN (see
comment 320)?

  *

  *Blueprint for Natty, Ubuntu 11.04:

  https://blueprints.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/packageselection-dx-n
  -resizing-windows

  Work items1 * Make sure the new resize grip fits in current applications;
doesn't interfere with anything. We should make some noise about this during
the Natty cycle so people keep their eyes open and file bugs.
2 * Invisible window resize area - around 3px invisible area to allow resize
on all sides.

  *

Working grip backported to gtk2 already available in ppa :
  https://launchpad.net/~bratsche/+archive/gtk

  *

  Workaround: Edit /usr/share/themes/Ambiance/metacity-1/metacity-
theme-1.xml. Set the following values in frame_geometry_normal as
  desired:

  distance name=left_width value=3/
  distance name=right_width value=3/
  distance name=bottom_height value=3/

  Binary package hint: metacity

  - The issue has been an issue for users (especially of large) screens
for several releases- Trackpad users seem to be particularly impacted by
this- The issue appears to have been significantly aggravated in Lucid
by changing the border width from 3 pixels to 1 pixel

The window borders in metacity are far too thin to be used for
comfortable window resizing, and resize handles are not available in all
applications (or even most). In fact, of all the windows I have open
right now, not a single one of them has a resize handle. The result is
that I get a lot of misses when I try to drag a window border, which
usually results in my clicking on the wrong window altogether. The best
fix for this usability bug is to create an invisible region around
each non-maximized window about 4px thick that can be used for resizing
(in addition to the visible border). Or perhaps there should be a border
thickness option on the System Preferences Windows dialog (although
the default thickness should still be increased considerably). Ideally
all windows would also have a resize handle but I realize that these
have to be application controlled (at least that seems to be the
  position of the metacity team).

[Bug 1025570] Re: closing Rubbish bin causes Nautilus to crash

2012-07-17 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the
crash report you wish to submit.
If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with
'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is
the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed
to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug
/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more

[Bug 1019063] Re: totem plugin crashes when playing embedded ogv

2012-07-17 Thread Tyler Hicks
Sebastien, the issue does happen with firefox 13. Also not that Micah
mentioned it has been happening at least since firefox 12 in comment #1.

As for the stack trace, is the trace at the bottom of the Mozilla crash
report not sufficient? I've submitted a new crash report based off of
firefox 14.0.1:

I don't know since when it is not more working fine but I've got all

[Bug 987220] Re: System does not power off reliably when Shut Down chosen from GUI

2012-07-17 Thread Joshua
The problem occurs both in Fedora 17 and Ubuntu 12.04. Sometimes there
is a clean shutdown but most of the times it doesn't power-off the
system. Keyboard and network card (green light indication on the ADSL
router/modem for this wired line turns orange) is turned off, but cpu
fans, power and hdd led's are in ON condition. I have to manually (long)
press the power button to turn off completely.

[Bug 1025291] [NEW] Compose key yields incorrectly accented Greek characters when using Greek keymap

2012-07-17 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Version info:

Description:Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
Release:12.04

I use the compose key extensively; I find the compose system to be by far the
fastest and most natural way of entering accented character.

Entering accented Greek characters is currently broken using composition
(using unicode character entry works fine, but that's laborious and
requires you to have memorised all the codes).

Specifically, Modern Greek only uses the tonos (and, rarely the
dialytika) to accent characters. Accents such as the dasia, psili,
varia, oxia, and the perispomeni are never used in Modern Greek;
they are only used in Katharevousa and Ancient Greek.

As such, the default character mapping for the ['] (right single quote)
key should certainly be the TONOS bearing variants, and never the
other variants. It would be OK for the other accents to be available via
*other* keys, but not the right single quote, which a Greek-speaking
user will always assume to yield the tonos.

Note that even if the intention had *originally* been to allow the [']
key to be used to access some other type of accent, it's currently
entirely inconsistent: for the alpha and epsilon it yields the varia,
whereas for the iota it yields the psili, and so forth, which makes the
current mapping entirely useless for Greek language entry.

For example:

[Compose + ' + a] appears to yield [U+1F70 GREEK SMALL LETTER ALPHA WITH
VARIA], when it should be yielding [U+03AC GREEK SMALL LETTER ALPHA WITH
TONOS]

[Compose + ' + e] appears to yield [U+1F72 GREEK SMALL LETTER EPSILON
WITH VARIA], when it should be yielding [U+03AD GREEK SMALL LETTER
EPSILON WITH TONOS]

[Compose + ' + i] appears to yield [U+1F30 GREEK SMALL LETTER IOTA WITH
PSILI], when it should be yielding [U+03AF GREEK SMALL LETTER IOTA WITH
TONOS]

... and so forth.

The Greek vowels are alpha, epsilon, eta, iota, omicron, upsilon and
omega; they all need to be fixed to yield the tonos variety, for both
lower and upper case.

** Affects: gtk+3.0 (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided

  * debian/patches/15_avoid_applet_loading_failures.patch:
- Use on_bus_acquired instead of on_name_acquired.
This helps prevent race conditions at session starts which can lead
to panel applets failing to load. (lp: #727660)

[Bug 1011520] [NEW] Single click to activate items does not work under certain scenarios

2012-07-17 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I work with Xubuntu 12.04 on a MacBook Air 4,1. I have the Single click to
activate items option checked (Applications Menu - Settings - Settings
Manager - File Manager - Behavior). This works perfectly fine in Thunar, I
can open subfolders by just clicking them once. However, it is not respected if
I do this (for example):
1) Open google.com (I use google-chrome) and search for xubuntu
2) Right-click the first link and choose Save Link As...
3) A Save File window is opened. In there, navigate to whatever subfolder and
you'll see that you need to double-click folders to be opened during
navigating. So, apparently, the Single click to activate items is not
respected in this case.

lsb_release -rd shows:
Description:Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
Release:12.04

[Bug 921071] Re: sometimes stop playing when going from an mp3 to an ogg (related to transcoding)

2012-07-17 Thread Donny
Sebastien Bacher: I have installed the list of packages that were
suggested by Jamie Strandboge in post #23
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gst-plugins-
base0.10/+bug/921071/comments/23), and from the initial tests it seems
that quodlibet (using gstreamer) is now working correctly.

So thank you for the fix, and Jaime thank you for listing what exactly
to install.

I would add (for anyone trying the proposed versions) that after just
trying to install some of those packages, it didn't work (nor should I
have expected it). I would also add that some packages will be removed
while installing this, since they depended on the old versions (for
instance my wine package got removed because of broken dependecies).

[Bug 1015073] Re: [soundnua] Can't select Digital stereo duplex profile

2012-07-17 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Ok, I've uploaded that patch as a SRU for precise since the quantal
testing didn't show any regression so far

** Description changed:

- How to reproduce:
+ Impact:
+ Some configurations can't be selected with the new sound configuration dialog
+
+ Test Case:
   1) Go to output tab and select Digital Output (S/PDIF)
   2) Go to input tab and select iec958-digital-input
   3) Go back to output tab, notice that Digital Output (S/PDIF) is no longer
selected.

- More info:
- When selecting Digital Output (S/PDIF), soundnua sets the card's profile to
output:iec958-stereo+input:analog-stereo. When selecting
iec958-digital-input, soundnua sets the card's profile to
output:analog-stereo+input:iec958-stereo, instead of the expected
output:iec958-stereo+input:iec958-stereo.
+ Regression potential:
+ The profiles listed in the sound capplet could be wrong or incomplete or not
correctly applied
+
+ ---
+
+ More info:

[Bug 160311] Re: Resizing windows by grabbing window borders is difficult

2012-07-17 Thread Ben Shadwick
** Description changed:

  *
- No more comments needed

This should mostly be fixed for Natty and might get backported to
  earlier releases as well.

For Precise (12.04) this is again broken for unity-2d (as of 17.7.2012
unity-2d 5.12.0-0ubuntu1.1).
Note that if the window has a scrollbar, you can grab that to resize the
window. If not, you are stuck with the 1px border. Workaround: NONE KNOWN (see
comment 320)?

  *

  *Blueprint for Natty, Ubuntu 11.04:

  https://blueprints.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/packageselection-dx-n
  -resizing-windows

  Work items1 * Make sure the new resize grip fits in current applications;
doesn't interfere with anything.

[Bug 1025874] [NEW] Breadcrumbs can be mistaken for a tab bar

2012-07-17 Thread Alan Jenkins
Public bug reported:

1. Look at the panel at the top of the screen. Click on your username.
2. Select user accounts from the menu.

A window opens - see screenshot. At the top, there is All Settings
and User accounts.

I'm not used to Ubuntu. (I use KDE more). My first impression is that
this is some sort of tab bar, with two options. If I remember my
interfaces right, I think Mac users might have an even stronger
impression of this. And I'm not particularly expecting a two-item
breadcrumb navigation bar, because I haven't done any navigation; I've
only just opened a new window.

As a result, while exploring the dialog, our user clicks on all
settings to see what the other tab means. He's rewarded with a sea of
icons (the gnome control center :).

A second level of frustration comes in, because this is a bit like
starting a navigational file browser at a specific directory, and then
accidentally going up a level. But unlike Dolphin/Konqueror, Firefox
or Nautilus, there's no quick back button to reverse the mistake.

[Bug 1025885] [NEW] The app menu for the desktop is not keyboard-accessible

2012-07-17 Thread Alan Jenkins
Public bug reported:

Click on the desktop background.

Press and hold the Alt key. As expected, you will see an application

[Bug 390989] Re: [SecurityRoadmap] Locked screen shows the desktop

2012-07-17 Thread Pete J
Had the issue today. Was working nearby with the screen timed out for more than
5 or 10 mins (black/blank). I assumed it was locked. To wake it, I started
typing my password and hit enter only to find that I had sent my password to a
co-worker over IM. I was able to chat with him for at least 30 seconds before
the screen locked.
I beleive this to be a huge security risk. Please promote this to a high
priority.

[Bug 1025897] [NEW] Ctrl+Alt+0 does not work as advertised

2012-07-17 Thread Alan Jenkins
Public bug reported:

I'm using unity-2d. Press alt+space, and I see a window menu. On the
right hand side of the menu, it shows keyboard shortcuts - e.g. next to
close, it shows Alt+F4.

Next to minimize, it shows Ctrl+Alt+0.

All the other keyboard shortcuts seem to work ok. (Once you know that
Super means the windows key). But pressing Ctrl+Alt+0 doesn't seem
to work.
