[Bug 160311] Re: Resizing windows by grabbing window borders is difficult
** Description changed: * No more comments needed This should mostly be fixed for Natty and might get backported to earlier releases as well. + + For Precise (12.04) this is again broken for unity-2d (as of 17.7.2012 unity-2d 5.12.0-0ubuntu1.1). + Note that if the window has a scrollbar, you can grab that to resize the window. If not, you are stuck with the 1px border. Workaround: NONE KNOWN (see comment 320)? * *Blueprint for Natty, Ubuntu 11.04: https://blueprints.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/packageselection-dx-n -resizing-windows Work items1 * Make sure the new resize grip fits in current applications; doesn't interfere with anything. We should make some noise about this during the Natty cycle so people keep their eyes open and file bugs. 2 * Invisible window resize area - around 3px invisible area to allow resize on all sides. * Working grip backported to gtk2 already available in ppa : https://launchpad.net/~bratsche/+archive/gtk * Workaround: Edit /usr/share/themes/Ambiance/metacity-1/metacity- theme-1.xml. Set the following values in frame_geometry_normal as desired: distance name=left_width value=3/ distance name=right_width value=3/ distance name=bottom_height value=3/ Binary package hint: metacity - The issue has been an issue for users (especially of large) screens for several releases- Trackpad users seem to be particularly impacted by this- The issue appears to have been significantly aggravated in Lucid by changing the border width from 3 pixels to 1 pixel The window borders in metacity are far too thin to be used for comfortable window resizing, and resize handles are not available in all applications (or even most). In fact, of all the windows I have open right now, not a single one of them has a resize handle. The result is that I get a lot of misses when I try to drag a window border, which usually results in my clicking on the wrong window altogether. The best fix for this usability bug is to create an invisible region around each non-maximized window about 4px thick that can be used for resizing (in addition to the visible border). Or perhaps there should be a border thickness option on the System Preferences Windows dialog (although the default thickness should still be increased considerably). Ideally all windows would also have a resize handle but I realize that these have to be application controlled (at least that seems to be the position of the metacity team). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to metacity in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/160311 Title: Resizing windows by grabbing window borders is difficult To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ayatana-design/+bug/160311/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1025570] Re: closing Rubbish bin causes Nautilus to crash
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the crash report you wish to submit. If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with 'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. [Bug 1025291] [NEW] Compose key yields incorrectly accented Greek characters when using Greek keymap
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Version info: Description:Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Release:12.04 I use the compose key extensively; I find the compose system to be by far the fastest and most natural way of entering accented character. Entering accented Greek characters is currently broken using composition (using unicode character entry works fine, but that's laborious and requires you to have memorised all the codes). Specifically, Modern Greek only uses the tonos (and, rarely the dialytika) to accent characters. Accents such as the dasia, psili, varia, oxia, and the perispomeni are never used in Modern Greek; they are only used in Katharevousa and Ancient Greek. As such, the default character mapping for the ['] (right single quote) key should certainly be the TONOS bearing variants, and never the other variants. It would be OK for the other accents to be available via *other* keys, but not the right single quote, which a Greek-speaking user will always assume to yield the tonos. Note that even if the intention had *originally* been to allow the ['] key to be used to access some other type of accent, it's currently entirely inconsistent: for the alpha and epsilon it yields the varia, whereas for the iota it yields the psili, and so forth, which makes the current mapping entirely useless for Greek language entry. For example: [Compose + ' + a] appears to yield [U+1F70 GREEK SMALL LETTER ALPHA WITH VARIA], when it should be yielding [U+03AC GREEK SMALL LETTER ALPHA WITH TONOS] [Compose + ' + e] appears to yield [U+1F72 GREEK SMALL LETTER EPSILON WITH VARIA], when it should be yielding [U+03AD GREEK SMALL LETTER EPSILON WITH TONOS] [Compose + ' + i] appears to yield [U+1F30 GREEK SMALL LETTER IOTA WITH PSILI], when it should be yielding [U+03AF GREEK SMALL LETTER IOTA WITH TONOS] ... and so forth. The Greek vowels are alpha, epsilon, eta, iota, omicron, upsilon and omega; they all need to be fixed to yield the tonos variety, for both lower and upper case. ** Affects: gtk+3.0 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: bot-comment -- Compose key yields incorrectly accented Greek characters when using Greek keymap https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1025291 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gtk+3.0 in Ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 921071] Re: sometimes stop playing when going from an mp3 to an ogg (related to transcoding)
Sebastien Bacher: I have installed the list of packages that were suggested by Jamie Strandboge in post #23 (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gst-plugins- base0.10/+bug/921071/comments/23), and from the initial tests it seems that quodlibet (using gstreamer) is now working correctly. So thank you for the fix, and Jaime thank you for listing what exactly to install. I would add (for anyone trying the proposed versions) that after just trying to install some of those packages, it didn't work (nor should I have expected it). I would also add that some packages will be removed while installing this, since they depended on the old versions (for instance my wine package got removed because of broken dependecies). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to rhythmbox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/921071 Title: sometimes stop playing when going from an mp3 to an ogg (related to transcoding) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gstreamer/+bug/921071/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 160311] Re: Resizing windows by grabbing window borders is difficult
** Description changed: * - No more comments needed This should mostly be fixed for Natty and might get backported to earlier releases as well. For Precise (12.04) this is again broken for unity-2d (as of 17.7.2012 unity-2d 5.12.0-0ubuntu1.1). Note that if the window has a scrollbar, you can grab that to resize the window.

[Bug 1025874] [NEW] Breadcrumbs can be mistaken for a tab bar
Public bug reported: 1. Look at the panel at the top of the screen. Click on your username. 2. Select user accounts from the menu. A window opens - see screenshot. At the top, there is All Settings and User accounts. I'm not used to Ubuntu. (I use KDE more). My first impression is that this is some sort of tab bar, with two options. If I remember my interfaces right, I think Mac users might have an even stronger impression of this. And I'm not particularly expecting a two-item breadcrumb navigation bar, because I haven't done any navigation; I've only just opened a new window. As a result, while exploring the dialog, our user clicks on all settings to see what the other tab means. He's rewarded with a sea of icons (the gnome control center :). A second level of frustration comes in, because this is a bit like starting a navigational file browser at a specific directory, and then accidentally going up a level. But unlike Dolphin/Konqueror, Firefox or Nautilus, there's no quick back button to reverse the mistake. [Bug 390989] Re: [SecurityRoadmap] Locked screen shows the desktop
Had the issue today. Was working nearby with the screen timed out for more than 5 or 10 mins (black/blank). I assumed it was locked. To wake it, I started typing my password and hit enter only to find that I had sent my password to a co-worker over IM. I was able to chat with him for at least 30 seconds before the screen locked. I beleive this to be a huge security risk.
