I just diff'ed the output from either version of the g-s-d, and it

[Bug 1034090] Re: Hotkeys not functional after upgrade to quantal

2012-08-08 Thread Stefan Skotte
It appears that the function 'supports_xinput2_devices' in rico's ppa
checks for Xinput version 2.0 and 2.2.

(in ./plugins/common/gsd-input-helper.c)

The current quantal packages only enables Xinput2 support if it matches
2.0...

I will try to rebuild the current 3.4.2 with the patch from 3.5.5 and
see if it works.

[Bug 1034090] Re: Hotkeys not functional after upgrade to quantal

2012-08-08 Thread Stefan Skotte
I have attached a patch that fixes the problem.

Turns out that XI was updated to 2.2 some time ago:

sfs@sfs-laptop:~$ xinput -version
xinput version 1.5.99.1
XI version on server: 2.2

I have tested it, and it works like it should - keyboard backlight and
volume up/down/mute all works again.

(I'm on an Asus UX32VD that provides keycodes through asus-wmi module)

Upstream patch with proper provenance is here (it is functionally
identical to Stefan's patch):

g-s-d trunk just after 3.4.2; we should pick it up. It fixes the issue

[Bug 1034412] [NEW] Brightness Lock turns off screen in middle of photo slideshow

2012-08-08 Thread Brendan Griffin
Public bug reported:

I have System Settings Brightness Lock Turn screen off when
inactive for 5 minutes ENABLED.

When I am in the middle of viewing a photo slideshow with Shotwell,
Ubuntu will turn off the screen after 5 minutes. The photos are changing
every couple seconds during the slideshow, shouldn't this prevent the
screen from being turned off?

[Bug 1034432] [NEW] Shotwell doesn't show options (Rotate, Enhance etc) when opening Maximised

2012-08-08 Thread Dominic Blakey
Public bug reported:

I have a display resolution of 1920 x 1080 (16:9) on my main display,
and a resolution of 1024 x 768 (4:3) on my secondary display. When
opening Shotwell maximised on my main display, the options such as
Rotate, Enhance etc don't show. The space where they should be is just
blank, showing the background application or desktop. I have to un-
maximise Shotwell, then re-maximise it (best way I can describe it) to
then reveal the options correctly.

I can always replicate this, and have included a screen-shot of Shotwell
opening without the options appearing as they should be.

[Bug 642792] Re: ALT+PrtSc not recognised: breaks built-in screenshot function

2012-08-08 Thread DavidBriscoe
On precise (fresh install):

Alt-PrtScn does a full-screen screenshot (screenshot is taken when I
release Alt). My keyboard settings pane still says that Alt-Print should
screenshot a single window.

I haven't run sysctl and my sysrq value seems to have defaulted to 1:

$ cat /proc/sys/kernel/sysrq
1

Except that something has modified it:

$ ls -ul /proc/sys/kernel/sysrq
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 0 Aug 8 09:13 /proc/sys/kernel/sysrq
$ ls -l /proc/sys/kernel/sysrq
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 0 Aug 8 09:13 /proc/sys/kernel/sysrq

(That's 3 minutes before I started writing this comment.) I haven't done
any sudo commands today, but maybe one of the PrtScn key combos did it?

[Bug 408903] Re: Does not handle microphone mute button (KEY_MICMUTE)

2012-08-08 Thread James M. Leddy
I just recompiled to be sure and it works fine for me. I'm on precise at
the moment. Are you using the dpkgs or compiling yourself? Please keep
in mind you have to install the new x11proto-core-dev and then recompile
libx11 for this to work.

Except this issue Evince is a very good tool, but I need to use other

[Bug 1034535] Crash report cannot be processed

2012-08-08 Thread Apport retracing service
Thank you for your report!

However, processing it in order to get sufficient information for the
developers failed (it does not generate a useful symbolic stack trace). This
might be caused by some outdated packages which were installed on your system
at the time of the report:

libglib2.0-0 version 2.33.6-1 required, but 2.33.8-1 is available

Please upgrade your system to the latest package versions. If you still
encounter the crash, please file a new report.

Thank you for your understanding, and sorry for the inconvenience!

[Bug 1034594] [NEW] zenity --question --timeout returns 5 when click yes

2012-08-08 Thread David Biesack
Public bug reported:

The man page says:

For example, zenity --question will return either 0, 1 or 5, depending
on whether the user pressed OK, Cancel or timeout has been reached.
zenity --entry will output on standard output what the user typed into
the text entry field.

however, for the following

$ zenity --question --title=Title --text=Click yes --timeout=6
$ echo $?
5

one can see that zenity returns 5 instead of 0 if you click the Yes (OK)
button.

Without --timeout, zenity returns 0 when you click Yes.

The man page also is incorrect because the buttons are labeled No and Yes (in
that order, left to right),
not OK or Cancel.

Also, pressing ESC is typically equivalent to canceling a dialog, but in the
latter case, zenity returns 0
(as if I had selected Yes) instead of 0 (No/Cancel)

[Bug 1034609] [NEW] Palimpsest warns about misalignment of extended partition

2012-08-08 Thread Jon Hanna
Public bug reported:

On a drive that requires 64-byte alignment, palimpsest complains if an
extended partition is misaligned, suggesting repartitioning.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this irrelevant with an extended
partition, only mattering with physical and logical partitions?

The warning certainly looks alarming. It definitely looks like I should
be fixing things as a matter of urgency! Unless I'm wrong in my
understanding that this is harmless, the warning should be removed in
such cases.

[Bug 1029531] Re: cdromupgrade from Lucid to Precise failed with unmet dependencies without network connection

2012-08-08 Thread Stéphane Graber
Right, so after some more debugging, thanks to Steve for parsing the apt
output, the total list of problems is the following.

 - update-notifier-common attempts to run patch but doesn't depend on it, the
failure is ignored so not causing a critical bug
 - the resolver fails to decide to remove librasero-media0 to make
launchpad-integration installable
 - the resolver tries to keep the old evolution-plugins, breaking libnspr in
the process
 - libgnome2 is required by the upgrade but not on the media
 - openoffice.org-core is needed by the upgrader but doesn't exist in the
archive
 - some other openoffice.org packages are required by the upgrader but not on
the media
 - the upgrader requires .*screen.* to be installed instead of ^screen$
making the upgrade fail if any package containing the work screen is removed by
the upgrader

And the matching list of changes:
 - update-notifier-common needs to depend on patch
 - launchpad-integration needs to break on libbrasero-media0
 - libnspr4-0d needs to break on evolution-plugins ( 3.2.0-0ubuntu2)
 - seed libgnome2 on alternate
 - add transitional package openoffice.org-core to openoffice.org
 - fix removal blacklist to use ^screen$
