[Bug 969359] Re: [keyboard]: gnome-settings-daemon consumes 100% cpu (and blinking numlock)

Workaround (!) was the disabling of 'remember numlock state' or whatever
it was called.

[Bug 1046177] [NEW] too many notifications for disk failure warnings

2012-09-05 Thread Andreas E.
Public bug reported:

When I boot up and there is a disk failure warning, it bombards me with a new
dialog every 2 seconds. If I'm not fast enough clicking the dialog away, I end
up with dozens if not hundreds of disk failure warning dialogs. This is by far
too much in too short time for users to respond to.
Expected behavior: If a dialog is already there, it is not necessary to open an
identical one.

[Bug 260918]

2012-09-05 Thread Robert Benjamin
AFAIK, icu2 is now multi-platform, linux, mac, and windows, via a web
based system I guess. I don't use it anymore so not sure if the webcams
work. My guess is it does, without wine.Just heard this from friends.
Haven't tried it. Webpage is video.icu2.com to get the multiplatform
site. Anyone try it out?

iSpQ is version 9.2 or will be shortly. They are multi-platform also,
using windows and mac only. Their webpage is www.ispq.com. I still use
it in win7 only. Haven't tried recently ( a few years ) to use wine and
my Logitech 9000 webcam. If wine supports the webcam and ispq I will
install it, and never go back to windows. So I hope this bug stays open
and others can comment on the use of webcams and ispq and other video
conferencing programs. Thanks.

[Bug 1036752] Re: [quantal] [regression] Gnome Classic has no compiz plugins loaded

2012-09-05 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
@Doug
Could you check if compiz-gnome is installed on this system? Since the default
compiz gsettings schemas should be installed by default, and I'm pretty sure
that the compiz-gnome.gsettings-override should set a sane list of
active-plugins. And could you also check if
/usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas/10_compiz-gnome.gschema.override is installed and
what are its contents?

[Bug 1036752] Re: [quantal] [regression] Gnome Classic has no compiz plugins loaded

2012-09-05 Thread Doug McMahon
first - this is a couple of day old install But it is the the Aug. 15 image
updated so i thought may be worth doing a fresh with the current image.
Anyway -
Created a new user, logged directly into Classic
Same thing, only the ccp plugin is loaded. As far as the override will attach
though it seems more suited to an ubuntu session.

Is there any expectation of a Default profile being in dconf? Currently only
the Unity profile is there.
If opening ccsm from the Classic login Preferences, the Default profile
Plugin List confirms only ccp enabled.

If I enable the min set of plugins to get going, then in ccsm Preferences
Default profile , (only profile avail.), when clicking on the Reset to
defaults everything but ccp is unset

[Bug 1046319] [NEW] glib 2.33.12 crashes libgdata

[Bug 1045439] Re: Embedded links in some PDF files are enclosed in red boxes

2012-09-05 Thread Biplab Swain
It is either with this particular PDF file or Google chrome's doc viewer
is doing it the right way; other viewers aren't. Or it is the other
way around. One of the online PDF viewer displayed it correctly. Given
these observations, I cannot be sure if it is not an evince rendering
problem at all or it is just this specific PDF file. Nevertheless, I
agree that it won't be right to say the problem is with evince alone
and marking this bug invalid now seems valid.

Thanks again.

[Bug 816600] Re: Gnome Nautilus cannot change trash location

2012-09-05 Thread Sebastien Bacher
upstream comment

The trash spec (http://www.ramendik.ru/docs/trashspec.html) says:
It may also choose to provide trashing in the “top directories” of some or all
mounted resources. This trashing is done in two ways, described below as (1)
and (2)...
(1) An administrator can create an $topdir/.Trash directory. The permissions on
this directories should permit all users who can trash files at all to write in
it.; and the “sticky bit” in the permissions must be set, if the file system
supports it.
(2) If an $topdir/.Trash directory is absent, an $topdir/.Trash-$uid directory
is to be used as the user's trash directory for this device/partition. $uid is
the user's numeric identifier.

Does that work and solve the problem?

I created a new folder TEST on my desktop, with files named 2011 -

the space (2011 - 06.txt becoming 2011-06.txt) for each file, it
works too.

I verified in the original folder of the bug, it's still buggy, but
these one are pdf files (except the other folder, it's the only

This bug is about rhythmbox mainly; it's just linked into the
transmageddon and other SRUs by shared files and other shuffling that's
required. I think a further /code/ patch to RB is needed to implement
the behaviour Doug described (very clearly, thank you) in #55. But I do
not think this necessarily needs to fail this SRU?

Happy for it to do so and for RB to fall out again if you think it's
critical for the issue to be properly fixed (and that the 12.04 released
version is better in this respect than the proposed one), but I don't
plan on working on such a patch myself.

I think the transmageddon and python-gst0.10 parts are fine and can go
in independently of the rhythmbox part.

Cheers,

[Bug 1046461] [NEW] [UIFe] UOA integration needs to support multiple accounts

2012-09-05 Thread Ken VanDine
Public bug reported:

We discussed this with upstream and have identified a couple
deficiencies in the current UOA patch that needs to be improved for
12.10.

Multiple account support is broken, if a user has more than one account
for facebook it just uses the first account returned from UOA. The
selector should display multiple entries for the service with the
username associated with the account in the selector.

Discoverability, if a user hasn't added accounts in UOA then there will
be no services available to publish to and no hint for the user to add
accounts in UOA.

Login/Logout button in the publishing dialog isn't necessary anymore, it
should be removed.

[Bug 1046490] [NEW] Saving attachment displays error because of null path

2012-09-05 Thread Jonathan Reed
Public bug reported:

When attempting to save an attachment in Evolution 3.2.3-0ubuntu6 on a
clean install, saving the attachment opens a GtkFileChooser initially
browsing the path , which naturally displays an error saying The
folder contents could not be displayed: Operation not supported. This
is because the key Gconf key /apps/evolution/shell/file_chooser_folder
is set to an empty value. If set to the user's homedir (e.g.
file:///home/joeuser), or even a sane default (e.g. file:///), this
error is not displayed. If the user dismisses the error, and navigates
to a valid location in the GtkFileChooser and saves the file, then that
location will be saved in the Gconf key and the error won't recur, but
this is not good user experience.

Steps to reproduce on a clean install of Ubuntu 12.04:

1) Launch Evolution.

2) Configure an e-mail account.

3) Navigate to a message with an attachment

4) Attempt to save the attachment

5) See the error.

6) Run gconftool-2 -s /apps/evolution/shell/file_chooser_folder -t
string file://$HOME

7) Repeat steps 1-4, note that no error occurs.

Re: [Bug 1044868] Re: Unsecure passwords reported as acceptable as well as strong ones

2012-09-05 Thread Sebastian Benvenuti
To be more precise in the precise pangolin installer issue, the facts are:
1. contraseña is marked as Fair, having selected a spanish keymap and
spanish language on the previous steps of the installer.
2. When I try an english installation (both keymap an locale), if I use the
password password is marked as weak.
3. No warning is displayed other than the word at the right of the topmost
password input field.
4. There's a big green checkmark next to the bottom password input field if
both passwords match

The word list to check against the password should match the locale
selected. The most basic thing to do is to match the fields hint (the text
that is grayed before the input) to the most insecure answer to the query.

The special characters are not the same on all languages. They should be
considered in base of the locale selected for the current algorithm to be
equally valid on different languages.
English is one of the most limited languages in terms of characters. It has
no written accents or any markings on letters. Spanish has the Ñ,
Portuguese and French use the Ç. When it comes to internationalization of
the algorithm these rules are most important.
The word contrasena (n instead of ñ) does not exist on the spanish
dictionary therefore it should be safer than the well spelled word,
contraseña (with the ñ). Same thing happens with the country name
españa and the unexisting word espana.

Some examples:
contraseña (password) = Fair
españa (country name) = Fair
password (contraseña) = Weak
london (city) = Weak
unitedkingdom (country) = Weak
unitedstatesofamerica (country) = weak

I believe these examples must make my point clear.

About (3) and (4):
Most password check instances I've encounter during gnu/linux system
installations do warned me if I entered a weak password, asking for
confirmation to proceed with the weak password just in case I did not
noticed the weak value next to the password input field (View attached
images). Maybe is not a part of the bug, but certainly a missing feature.
Also, the big green matching passwords checkmark is more noticeable than
the weak (débil in spanish) word that warns about the password strength.

2012/9/3 Dmitrijs Ledkovs launch...@surgut.co.uk

Can you please elaborate on the without any alerts, or so on?

As both account settings / account password ubiquity show password
strengths 'Too short / Weak / Fair / Good / Strong'

I do agree that the algorithms they use are not very strong, and they
are biased against introducing characters instead of favouring length:

 http://xkcd.com/936/

 Is cryptographically true.

The suggestion is a password strength verification that includes the

includes the word password in every language.
A special attention to language like Spanish where password is
contraseña, and where is the character ñ which can be recognize as a

[Bug 1045528] Re: Not able to SHIFT click when renaming a file.

2012-09-05 Thread Nate Wiebe
I would, but since 12.10 is using an older version of nautilus, I'm
guessing the chance of the fix being applied to 12.10 is pretty slim
unless you backport it. Also, I'm hoping that Ubuntu move onto another
file manager that doesn't theaten to remove features every release. The
gnome team has some warped vision that I don't agree with anymore. I'd
prefer using Marlin over Nautilus any day.

I'm thinking this fix wouldn't require too much effort. I may even
attempt a patch myself if I get the time.

quantal-proposed. I'd really appreciate testing by those that get this
crash. I'm confident, but not certain I've got the right fix.

[Gory details if you happen to know the code] The idletime signals are
firing after the power manager is stopped. idletime is a singleton that
hands out references to itself every time it is 'created'. And stop()
is expecting a mere unref() to disconnect the signals. But it doesn't
if idletime has been reffed more times. So this patch manually
disconnect the signals we set up.

[Bug 1046547] [NEW] Facebook, Picasa, Youtube and Flickr Plugins do not appear in Publish dialog

2012-09-05 Thread Malte Hinrichs
Public bug reported:

Though the plugins are activated, the Publish dialog in Shotwell does
not display dropdown entries for Facebook, Picasa, Youtube or Flicker.
Piwigo and Yandex.Fotki Plugins are displayed. If neither Yandex or
Piwigo plugins are activated, an error message, informing that
publishing is not possible due to no publishing plugin being activated,
appears when clicking on the Publish option in the menu.

The problem might be related to the webapps preview PPA
(http://ppa.launchpad.net/webapps/preview/ubuntu/), the affected
services seem to be the ones also being provided as Unity webapps.

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1042969 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1042969

This is a duplicate of bug #1042969.

To see entries for Facebook, Flickr and so on in Shotwell, currently you
must first run Ubuntu Online Accounts to set up accounts for those
services. We realize that this is a usability problem: Shotwell should
take you to Ubuntu Online Accounts automatically if you haven't set up
accounts there yet. That should be addressed before 0.13 ships; see
#1046461.

  DESCRIPTION

Not so trivial to explain but I'll try.

- 1. Launch Rhythmbox
- 2. Insert a CD in the CD-ROM
- 3. The CD is not automatically identified (it's of a not very famous Russian
band)
- 4. I'm manually setting track names and...
- 5. Magic, black magic! If I change the keyboard layout (RU - EN) during
editing then Rhythmbox kicks me out of the editing. So if a track name contains
both Russian and English words I'm compelled to write one part, press Enter (so
that the changes are not lost), change layout, click on the track name, write
another part in the opposite layout. In some tricky names I have to do this
several times.

[Bug 1046570] [NEW] Nautilus changes the scope of second consequtive search against remote folder

2012-09-05 Thread Vitaly Korolev
Public bug reported:

To reproduce:
1. Connect to SFTP using Menu File Connect to Server
2. Open some folder other than / on a remote server that contains a couple of
different files. (e.g. test1 and test2)
3. Click Search button on the toolbar and type test1
4. Search quickly returns results for the current folder
5. Change the query to test2 and press Enter (or a little magnifying glass
button in text box)

Expected result: Nautilus should perform a search in the same folder and return
results (e.g. test2)
Actual result: Nautilus takes a long time to search and eventually returns
results that seem to include everythings and not just the current folder.

Workaround: Press back button to hide search results, press search
button and start a new search.
