[Bug 1046177] [NEW] too many notifications for disk failure warnings
Public bug reported: When I boot up and there is a disk failure warning, it bombards me with a new dialog every 2 seconds. If I'm not fast enough clicking the dialog away, I end up with dozens if not hundreds of disk failure warning dialogs. This is by far too much in too short time for users to respond to. [Bug 260918]
AFAIK, icu2 is now multi-platform, linux, mac, and windows, via a web based system I guess. I don't use it anymore so not sure if the webcams work. My guess is it does, without wine.Just heard this from friends. Haven't tried it. Webpage is video.icu2.com to get the multiplatform site. Anyone try it out? iSpQ is version 9.2 or will be shortly. They are multi-platform also, using windows and mac only. Their webpage is www.ispq.com. I still use it in win7 only. Haven't tried recently ( a few years ) to use wine and my Logitech 9000 webcam. If wine supports the webcam and ispq I will install it, and never go back to windows. So I hope this bug stays open and others can comment on the use of webcams and ispq and other video conferencing programs. [Bug 816600] Re: Gnome Nautilus cannot change trash location
upstream comment The trash spec (http://www.ramendik.ru/docs/trashspec.html) says: It may also choose to provide trashing in the “top directories” of some or all mounted resources. This trashing is done in two ways, described below as (1) and (2)... (1) An administrator can create an $topdir/.Trash directory. The permissions on this directories should permit all users who can trash files at all to write in it.; and the “sticky bit” in the permissions must be set, if the file system supports it. (2) If an $topdir/.Trash directory is absent, an $topdir/.Trash-$uid directory is to be used as the user's trash directory for this device/partition. $uid is the user's numeric identifier. Hi James, On Wed, Sep 05, 2012 at 03:34:50PM -, James M. Leddy wrote: Doug, this sounds like an entirely different issue. Would you explain what this has to do with transmageddon moving it's presets files? Especially when most default installations have rhythmbox installed but not transmageddon? This bug is about rhythmbox mainly; it's just linked into the transmageddon and other SRUs by shared files and other shuffling that's required. I think a further /code/ patch to RB is needed to implement the behaviour Doug described (very clearly, thank you) in #55. But I do not think this necessarily needs to fail this SRU? Happy for it to do so and for RB to fall out again if you think it's critical for the issue to be properly fixed (and that the 12.04 released version is better in this respect than the proposed one), but I don't plan on working on such a patch myself. I think the transmageddon and python-gst0.10 parts are fine and can go in independently of the rhythmbox part. This is because the key Gconf key /apps/evolution/shell/file_chooser_folder is set to an empty value. If set to the user's homedir (e.g. file:///home/joeuser), or even a sane default (e.g. file:///), this error is not displayed. If the user dismisses the error, and navigates to a valid location in the GtkFileChooser and saves the file, then that location will be saved in the Gconf key and the error won't recur, but this is not good user experience. Steps to reproduce on a clean install of Ubuntu 12.04: 1) Launch Evolution. 2) Configure an e-mail account. 3) Navigate to a message with an attachment 4) Attempt to save the attachment 5) See the error. 6) Run gconftool-2 -s /apps/evolution/shell/file_chooser_folder -t string file://$HOME 7) Repeat steps 1-4, note that no error occurs. ** Affects: evolution (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evolution in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1046490 Title: Saving attachment displays error because of null path To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evolution/+bug/1046490/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
Re: [Bug 1044868] Re: Unsecure passwords reported as acceptable as well as strong ones
To be more precise in the precise pangolin installer issue, the facts are: 1. contraseña is marked as Fair, having selected a spanish keymap and spanish language on the previous steps of the installer. 2. When I try an english installation (both keymap an locale), if I use the password password is marked as weak. 3. No warning is displayed other than the word at the right of the topmost password input field. 4. There's a big green checkmark next to the bottom password input field if both passwords match The word list to check against the password should match the locale selected. The most basic thing to do is to match the fields hint (the text that is grayed before the input) to the most insecure answer to the query. The special characters are not the same on all languages. They should be considered in base of the locale selected for the current algorithm to be equally valid on different languages. English is one of the most limited languages in terms of characters. It has no written accents or any markings on letters. Spanish has the Ñ, Portuguese and French use the Ç. When it comes to internationalization of the algorithm these rules are most important. The word contrasena (n instead of ñ) does not exist on the spanish dictionary therefore it should be safer than the well spelled word, contraseña (with the ñ). Same thing happens with the country name españa and the unexisting word espana. Some examples: contraseña (password) = Fair españa (country name) = Fair password (contraseña) = Weak london (city) = Weak unitedkingdom (country) = Weak unitedstatesofamerica (country) = weak I believe these examples must make my point clear. About (3) and (4): Most password check instances I've encounter during gnu/linux system installations do warned me if I entered a weak password, asking for confirmation to proceed with the weak password just in case I did not noticed the weak value next to the password input field (View attached images). Maybe is not a part of the bug, but certainly a missing feature. Also, the big green matching passwords checkmark is more noticeable than the weak (débil in spanish) word that warns about the password strength. 2012/9/3 Dmitrijs Ledkovs launch...@surgut.co.uk Can you please elaborate on the without any alerts, or so on? As both account settings / account password ubiquity show password strengths 'Too short / Weak / Fair / Good / Strong' I do agree that the algorithms they use are not very strong, and they are biased against introducing characters instead of favouring length: http://xkcd.com/936/ Is cryptographically true. -- You received this bug notification because you are subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1044868 Title: Unsecure passwords reported as acceptable as well as strong ones Status in “gnome-control-center” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Status in “ubiquity” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: When you set the password during the installation or also when you change it via the gnome-control-center you can insert a weak password (like 123456 or qwerty or abcdef or password itself) without any alerts, or so on. I would, but since 12.10 is using an older version of nautilus, I'm guessing the chance of the fix being applied to 12.10 is pretty slim unless you backport it. Also, I'm hoping that Ubuntu move onto another file manager that doesn't theaten to remove features every release. The gnome team has some warped vision that I don't agree with anymore. [Bug 971353] Re: power : gnome-settings-daemon crashed with SIGSEGV in gnome_rr_screen_get_dpms_mode
OK, I think I know why this is happening, though I can't reproduce myself. I have uploaded gnome-settings-daemon 3.4.2-0ubuntu12 to quantal-proposed. I'd really appreciate testing by those that get this crash. I'm confident, but not certain I've got the right fix. [Gory details if you happen to know the code] The idletime signals are firing after the power manager is stopped. idletime is a singleton that hands out references to itself every time it is 'created'. And stop() is expecting a mere unref() to disconnect the signals. But it doesn't if idletime has been reffed more times.
