Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it
would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers
of the software by following the instructions at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please
tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a

[Bug 304345] Re: File chooser dialog doesn't provide network access

2012-11-05 Thread Norbert
Ubuntu 12.04 is affected by this bug.
Samba share was mounted, it's shown in the Nautilus, added to its bookmarks.
But there is no bookmark in the File Open dialog.

If I manually navigate to '~/.gvfs/share_name on 192.168.x.x' I can access
files. If I manually try to add this bookmark again, dialog says:
 Could not add a bookmark
smb://192.168.x.x/share_name/ already exists in the bookmarks list
.
Please fix. It is annoying.

[Bug 1075165] [NEW] Brasero hangs on verifying checksum after burning iso

2012-11-05 Thread David Beswick
Public bug reported:

I burned an iso image and the first verifying checksum run completed.
The disc burned to 100% and then began a second round of verification.
After 20 or so minutes nothing had happened although the dvd drive light
was flashing. The estimated time to complete the task (as seen on the
Unity tray area) was 1 hour and was increasing every second.

I pressed cancel twice and the burn completed. The DVD seemed to have
been written correctly.

[Bug 850649] Re: gnome-terminal extremely slow and display buggy

2012-11-05 Thread Gábor Udvari
Similar symptoms as above: frequently switching from gnome-terminal to
Firefox causes gnome-terminal to scroll very slowly (takes one or two
seconds to scroll a single line). Single monitor display, nVidia GeForce
8400, driver version: 304.43, Ubuntu 12.10 64bit.

Tried to figure out when and why that happens and here are some scenarios:
- happens with every libvte based terminal
- happens with xterm and rxvt-unicode if an xft font is used for display
- does _not_ happen with xterm and rxvt-unicode if a bitmapped xorg core font
is used
- happens with every libvte based terminal if system wide font hinting is set
to slight and font anti-aliasing is set to none (in this case fonts will look
the same as a bitmapped xorg core font)

As you can see, even if the system wide setting is set to look the same
as a bitmapped font, it does behave differently in this case. Could this
be related to some font rendering performance?

[Bug 1075196] [NEW] Rhythmbox never starts minimized

2012-11-05 Thread Davide Alberelli
Public bug reported:

Hi! I'm on Quantal (12.10).

What I expected:
If I lunch rhythmbox (2.97-1ubuntu6) from Dash, from Alt+F2, from terminal ecc
it should show the main window.
If i start it from the sound menu (by clicking the Play button, not the
application name) it should start and start playing without showing me the main
window.

What I obtain:
There's no actually a way to start rhythmbox minimized.

In old versions there was an option --hide to launch it without showing the
main window.
In newer versions there should be a gsetting key that remember the last state
(minimized, normal, maximized).
In the last verion it's simply impossible to launch it minimized.

Way to replicate this:
Open rhythmbox, then closed it (Ctrl+Q), then push Play in sound Menu.
It does not start playing and, instead show the main window.

[Bug 1075178] [NEW] GtkFileChooserDialog does not provide access to network shares (Samba, GVFS) directly and with Nautilus bookmarks

2012-11-05 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I have Ubuntu 12.04 with latest updates.
Also I have Qnap NAS (let mark its IP as 192.168.x.x) with normally configured
share 'share_name'.
I have mounted a the Samba share in Nautilus, added it to bookmarks in the
Sidebar. When I click to this Bookmark in Network section, it opens and
Nautilus reports Location 'smb://192.168.x.x/share_name/'. So I see my files
and folders.

If I go to any GTK application, for example 'meld' and try to open file from my
Samba share I can't see this Bookmark.
If I manually navigate to folder '/home/user/.gvfs/share_name on 192.168.x.x' I
can see my files. If I try to add this path to bookmarks I get message:
Could not add a bookmark
smb://192.168.x.x/share_name/ already exists in the bookmarks list
.
But bookmark is not shown.

Access to Network shares is a common task, so this bug must be fixed.

[Bug 1067700] Re: Sound Settings crashes when USB audio mixer selected as input

2012-11-05 Thread The Bright Side
Hey guys,

while you continue experiencing this bug, here's a workaround:
http://freedesktop.org/software/pulseaudio/pavucontrol/

This program is readily available in the Ubuntu repos and replaces
Ubuntu's own Sound Settings. Look for pavucontrol in Synaptic or
Software Centre. After installation, it's in your applications as
PulseAudio Volume Control. It does everything the Sound Settings do
and works like a charm.

[Bug 1075039] Re: Firefox doesn't work with ATT Natural Voices® Text-to-Speech Demo

2012-11-05 Thread Chris Coulson
Working in Chrome / Chromium / Epiphany is irrelevant as those don't use
the Totem plugin to handle this.

Looking in xsession-errors shows that the separate totem-plugin-viewer
process receives the correct URL from the part of totem which runs
inside the browser. This isn't a Firefox bug...

[Bug 1075286] [NEW] gnome-settings-daemon crashed with sigabrt in raise()

2012-11-05 Thread Hugo Venhorst
Public bug reported:

what i was doing:
- I was watching a fullscreen youtube video (length of the video was about an
hour, and I was halfway through)

What happened:
- the video stalled but remained fullscreen. ESC didn't work, ALT+TAB did bring
Unity to the front, and showed the window switcher. the window switcher
responded normally, and the selected window was supposedly focused, but the
video stayed in front and fullscreen.
- HDD read/write went nuts.

what i did next:
- i went to VT2, logged in and ran Top. it revealed gnome-settings-daemon to be
taking 80% CPU (the other 20% was devided between Xorg, Thunderbird Firefox and
other)
- i tried going back to VT7, but the graphics was messed up. CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE
didn't work. back to VT2 worked.
- i tried to kill gnome-settings-daemon. no go.
- i did sudo killall -u user which effectively logged me out.
- I logged back in. upon log-in i got a crash report. it didn't open Launchpad.
- I did ubuntu-bug gnome-settings-daemon and reported manually.

- i restarted the video and watched the remaining half fullscreen
without trouble. i have no idea about reproducing this.

[Bug 932935] Re: nautilus ftp file transfer hangs when transferring directories

2012-11-05 Thread qwazi
It is unclear to me that this is fixed. If I mount a cifs share manually
using the mount command, I have no problem reading and copying files
from it.

However, if I use gvfs-mount and then try to copy many files, rsync or
nautilus (whichever I'm using for file copying) will fail and I will
need to kill the process. I'm using a fully up-to-date Ubuntu 12.10
which is using: gvfs (1.14.0-0ubuntu5) quantal; urgency=low

Also the entire gnome-panel crashes when I add the calendar to the
panel. It's inconceivable that in the year 2012 we still don't have a
working calendar. FFS.

We have this on the Nexus7 tablet and I've seen it on my HP Elitebook

[Bug 410288] Re: Nautilus does not handle FTP timeouts well

2012-11-05 Thread magowiz
Even worst in 12.10 , I got ftp/sftp timeouts in early phases of transferring a
file . I tried both PCManFM and Nautilus , both of them relies on gvfs to
handle ftp and sftp .
I noticed this timeout while transferring a file from a remote server to local
machine both sftp and ftp protocols, no problems while doing the inverse (local
- server) .

@Pere, I presume in fact you /did/ mean 12.10 as there was no 10.12.
Since this bug is only for Unity-2d and there is no Unity-2d then this
bug is not applicable to 12.10. If you are seeing it in the latest
Unity then it is a different bug.

[Bug 1075337] [NEW] Drag drop does not allways copy item

2012-11-05 Thread Rasmus Pedersen
Public bug reported:

When I copy/move files with nautilus 7 out of 10 times the items are not
copied/moved. The weird part is that the icon being draged does not
spring back to the origin like a normal failed drag would, but just
disapperes like it would with a successfull drag.. but nothing ever
happens.

If I do a little swirl with the mouse before releasing the drag the
items gets copied every time.

The problem does not occure with Gnome Shell or Gnome Classic.

I'am using Ubuntu 12.10, and the problems occures on two seperate

[Bug 762670] Re: Laptop brightness on Dell XPS not controllable

2012-11-05 Thread Daniel Woodworth
I have fixed this by changing my xorg.conf file from this:

Section Device
Identifier Default Device
Option NoLogoTrue
EndSection

to this:

Section Device
Identifier Default Device
Option NoLogoTrue
EndSection

Section Screen
Identifier Default Screen
Option RegistryDwords EnableBrightnessControl=1
EndSection
