[Bug 883417] Re: Evolution 3.2.0 in UBUNTU 11.10 (Syncho google contacts)

2013-05-16 Thread J.L. Aarts
I wonder whether the problem might be related in any way to the gnome
online-accounts package not being installed. I am using Evolution 3.2.3
on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Dell Optimplex SX 270, Pentium 4 2 MB RAM).
Deleting e-addressbook-factory did not work for me.

What *did* work is installing the package gnome online-accounts and
allowing Evolution access to my Google account.

Te effect now is that Evolution sees my contacts and takes (as it
should) mail addresses addresses from the Gmail contacts. That is a lot
better then just seeing a unhelpful message like Cannot open book:
Source already loaded!

Of course it remains to be seen whether the addresses actually get
synced with GMail contacts, I don't see that happen at the moment.

[Bug 1173886] Re: Wrong background colour for nautilus icon in Unity launcher

2013-05-16 Thread John Lea
@hyperair; In Unity 8 we will probably be completely removing
average-icon-colour algorithm and either:
- forcing all applications to pick a specific colour.
- Not having the concept of a Launcher tile background at all, and just
displaying an icon that covers the whole tile. If we take this approach we
would then use shaders on the icon for the launching 'pulse' effect, etc...

Agreed that defining the tile background colour in the .desktop file is
a hackey solution, but not sure what mechanism will be proposed for
Unity 8. However there is a very high probability the average-icon-
colour algorithm will be removed from the next version of Unity.

[Bug 1180721] [NEW] replaygain crashing on second play

2013-05-16 Thread Iain Lane
Public bug reported:

Reporting to track

https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=700401

Rhythmbox 2.99.1, GStreamer 1.0.7, pygobject 3.9.1.

Start rhythmbox, enable replaygain, play two songs (mp3s?). After the second RB
crashes with the attached trace. If I comment out the offending line (162,
pad.add_probe...) in /usr/lib/rhythmbox/plugins/replaygain/player.py then the
crash doesn't happen.

This sounds like #685303, but that one has a different trace, so I'm filing a
new one.

generate displayname protocolname [trusted|untrusted]
[timeout seconds] [group group-id] [data hexdata]

This command is similar to add. The main difference is that
instead of requiring the user to supply the key data, it connects to the server
specified in displayname and uses the
SECURITY extension in order to get the key data to store in the
authorization file. If the server cannot be contacted or if it does not
support the SECURITY extension, the command
fails. Otherwise, an authorization entry for the indicated
display using the given protocol is added to the authorization file. A
protocol name consisting of just a single period
is treated as an abbreviation for MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1.
snip
EXAMPLE
The most common use for xauth is to extract the entry for the current
display, copy it to another machine, and merge it into the user's authority
file on the remote machine:

   % xauth extract - $DISPLAY | ssh otherhost xauth merge -

The following command contacts the server :0 to create an authorization
using the MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 protocol. Clients that connect with this
authorization will be untrusted.
% xauth generate :0 .
snip
BUGS
Users that have unsecure networks should take care to use encrypted file
transfer mechanisms to copy authorization entries between machines. Similarly,
the MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 protocol is
not very useful in unsecure environments. Sites that are interested in
additional security may need to use encrypted authorization mechanisms such as
Kerberos.

[Bug 787475] Re: Rhythmbox [0.12.8] [0.12.5] Not Fetching Album Information From MusicBrainz

2013-05-16 Thread karlos001
I'm having the same problem and I have a 32 bit version of ubuntu 12.04.
Usually the first cd's meta data is found fine, after ripping and
ejecting this cd I then have problems. Sometimes it works if I hit
reload sometimes it doesn't and, usually, if it doesn't then rhythmbox
completely shuts itself down. Very frustrating.

The other thing I've noticed is that the little progress/search bar that
is on when I put the first cd in doesn't appear when I hit reload for
the second cd.

[Bug 872221] Re: Searching for bluetooth devices forever

2013-05-16 Thread kai peterson
I have the same problem - trying to find a device and nothing besides the
little circle of bubbles happens. No device, no connection no nothing.
I already read up on the problem. Maybe it has to do with the hardware? Could
it be, that there is no supported bluetooth? It works fine under Windows 7 (on
the same machine).
Is there a way to find out if there is a recognized bluetooth adapter? If so,
could somebody please post the sudo for it?
It is annoying because besides the bluetooth problem ubuntu 13 runs great on my
Fujitsu Lifebook A530.
Thank you for help!!

[Bug 1180827] [NEW] PDF Form : evince shows the date the PDF form was designed instead of the current date

2013-05-16 Thread YS1
Public bug reported:

The attached file is an official form by the French Ministry of Interior
that one must fill out using one's computer and then print and sign.

The date at the bottom left of the first page is supposed to be the date
of signature. However, it is filled with a date in July 2011, and cannot
be modified. I checked the properties of the PDF file, and the 19th July
2011 is the date the PDF file was last modified.

When I open the same file in Adobe Reader, this date field shows today's
date, as expected.

Actually, I am not sure whether this is a bug in evince or the form was
designed improperly. I am not fluent enough in PDF to check this.

[Bug 315562] Re: spell check uses wrong English dictionary

2013-05-16 Thread 2CV67
Is the title of this bug maybe incorrect?

I think the real problem is You can't select the default language you
want Gedit to use for spell checking.

Sounds like that was true in 2009 I think it is still true today,
isn't it?

Seems to be to me using Ubuntu 12.10.

I live in France, most of my PC is in English, though the keyboard is
French, and I only want spell checking when I write in French.

Gedit decides I want English, for whatever reason ( I don't care what
reason) I have to set French EVERY time I want to use it.

What I would like (and absolutely expect) is to be able to select
whatever language I want (in my case French) as default, then select
whatever other language I want (maybe German, English, USA or whatever)
if I want, occasionally, with fallback to French next time.

I certainly don't expect to be uninstalling dictionaries to trick Gedit
into doing something...

[Bug 1158529] Re: gvfsd-http memory leaks

2013-05-16 Thread Troy Topnik
I suspect it is an instance of this bug:

 https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=639777

I'm hitting this as well, with gvfsd-http eventually consuming almost 1
GB of memory on my system, so it's an important bug for me.

Similar to what the Totem user in the Gnome bug report is seeing, this
is triggered on my system by opening http audio streams in Rhythmbox
2.98. After that, and even if the stream or Rhythmbox itself is closed,
memory usage continues to creep up.

All bugs mentioned here are affecting only Compiz session. If you use
Metacity (aka no effects) session, everything works well.

The GNOME Panel is mostly unmaintained upstream, though there is a group
of enthusiasts willing to support it. See

[Bug 1180939] [NEW] copy directory to USB Hdd is extremly slow

2013-05-16 Thread Borim
Public bug reported:

I used Nautilus to copy a data folder (~50 GB) to a USB Hdd. After
waiting one day I aborted the copy process, as only a little more than
half the data was transferred. I made a screenshot before aborting the
copy process and attached it to the bug report.

With the cp command it just took about 1h to copy the whole directory.

The huge difference make nautilus unusable for big file transfers.

A rough overview of the directory content:

Also, maybe related, after logout mouse can be moved behind the left edge of

[Bug 682788] Re: Improve Unity Global Menu

2013-05-16 Thread Leonardo Donelli
Selection bias. This is a bug report in which the global menu functionality on
unmaximized windows is reported as a bug. Of course the vast majority of people
on this page are against this feature. So I'll speak in favor of it.
Personally i love global menu (both on maximized and unmaximized windows) and
it's *the* feature that keeps Ubuntu my OS of choice. Since when I got used to
it no global menu - not an options as personal OS (and my screen is
1600x900, for those saying that if the screen is 1280x1024, than global menu
is bad)
For those talking about auto-hiding and 'easy discovery of menu options':
there's HUD for that now. It's amazing. The concept behind it has been proved
successful in the past, on desktops: dash/launchers vs desktop icons, web
search engines vs web directories.
Example: I wonder if GIMP has a function for lens flare. With HUD i press alt
and type 'flare'. With the menu, i explore lists and sublists of menus
categories until I find it (assuming I don't miss it)- The only case when the
normal menus are better is when I want to just 'explore' the options, without
looking for anything in particular (Let's see if there is something cool),
How many times does that happens? 1 per application per lifetime? Well, for
that time you can do the enormous effort of moving the mouse a little higher.
A lot of people here lamenting Unity sounds a lot like those windows users that
try some distro and say Where is the start button? What, there isn't one?!
This OS is stupid!.

That being said, unless it's difficult to implement (I doubt it) I don't
see why not give the users the option to disable it.

Re: [Bug 682788] Re: Improve Unity Global Menu

2013-05-16 Thread Aleve Sicofante
@Leonardo Donelli: Have you actually read this bug report at all? People
here is not against the global menu per se. Gosh, even the title says it
very clear!!! All we want is IMPROVEMENT, which in this case means some
pretty well argued options (compared to the total lack of rationale for the
current status...).

The HUD doesn't solve the problems illustrated here. It's just a different

So what happens to applications which don't? You can't expect all upstreams to
bother about making Unity-specific changes, and it'll just look bad if their
launcher icons look bad in Unity.

 - Not having the concept of a Launcher tile background at all, and just
displaying an icon that covers the whole tile. If we take this approach we
would then use shaders on the icon for the launching 'pulse' effect, etc...

What about the filled-tile effect when applications are running? The small
triangles aren't very visible with this effect enabled, and it still requires a
tile background colour.

[Bug 771661] Re: Allow .xsession-errors to be a symlink

Now that ubuntu uses lightdm by default, something similar should be
implemented in lightdm as well.

A similar request is

I wonder if the problem still exists on openSUSE-12.3.

Otherwise, I think that Thorsten is the best person to look at this.

[Bug 1075923] Re: nautilus hangs copying large directories from a samba share

2013-05-16 Thread apinunt
This problem may be more serious than I previously thought. Moments ago
I moved a 254MB file from my desktop computer to a network drive, and it
seemed to transfer instantaneously. The file was deleted on my computer
and when I looked at the network drive the file name was there, but the
content was 0 bytes. The file was lost and the work to create it will
have to be redone from scratch. Now it appears I can no longer trust
moving files and will need to copy them and verify they are identical on
both the source and the destination before manually deleting the source.

Is there a Linux distribution unaffected by this bug? If it is not going
to be fixed I'm willing to change to another OS as I can't work without
confidence that my files are secure when I move them to a permanent
storage for others to access.

[Bug 1155099] Re: F5 not working

2013-05-16 Thread Keshav Parankusham
Actually in older versions the cpu usage % would increase as we
continuously refresh using F5, and the icons or the mouse pointer would
show loading symbol, but in 13.04 mouse is not showing the loading
symbol and not only that the cpu % in conky or multiload indicator are
not showing increase in cpu usage or the percentage it is showing.
