[Bug 883417] Re: Evolution 3.2.0 in UBUNTU 11.10 (Syncho google contacts)
I wonder whether the problem might be related in any way to the gnome online-accounts package not being installed. I am using Evolution 3.2.3 on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Dell Optimplex SX 270, Pentium 4 2 MB RAM). Deleting e-addressbook-factory did not work for me. What *did* work is installing the package gnome online-accounts and allowing Evolution access to my Google account. Te effect now is that Evolution sees my contacts and takes (as it should) mail addresses addresses from the Gmail contacts. That is a lot better then just seeing a unhelpful message like Cannot open book: Source already loaded! Of course it remains to be seen whether the addresses actually get synced with GMail contacts, I don't see that happen at the moment. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evolution in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/883417 Title: Evolution 3.2.0 in UBUNTU 11.10 (Syncho google contacts) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/evolution/+bug/883417/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1173886] Re: Wrong background colour for nautilus icon in Unity launcher
@hyperair; In Unity 8 we will probably be completely removing average-icon-colour algorithm and either: - forcing all applications to pick a specific colour. - Not having the concept of a Launcher tile background at all, and just displaying an icon that covers the whole tile. If we take this approach we would then use shaders on the icon for the launching 'pulse' effect, etc... Agreed that defining the tile background colour in the .desktop file is a hackey solution, but not sure what mechanism will be proposed for Unity 8. However there is a very high probability the average-icon- colour algorithm will be removed from the next version of Unity. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1173886 Title: Wrong background colour for nautilus icon in Unity launcher To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ayatana-design/+bug/1173886/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

The main difference is that instead of requiring the user to supply the key data, it connects to the server specified in displayname and uses the SECURITY extension in order to get the key data to store in the authorization file. If the server cannot be contacted or if it does not support the SECURITY extension, the command fails. Otherwise, an authorization entry for the indicated display using the given protocol is added to the authorization file. A protocol name consisting of just a single period is treated as an abbreviation for MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1. snip EXAMPLE The most common use for xauth is to extract the entry for the current display, copy it to another machine, and merge it into the user's authority file on the remote machine: % xauth extract - $DISPLAY | ssh otherhost xauth merge - The following command contacts the server :0 to create an authorization using the MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 protocol. Clients that connect with this authorization will be untrusted. % xauth generate :0 . snip BUGS Users that have unsecure networks should take care to use encrypted file transfer mechanisms to copy authorization entries between machines. Similarly, the MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 protocol is not very useful in unsecure environments. [Bug 787475] Re: Rhythmbox [0.12.8] [0.12.5] Not Fetching Album Information From MusicBrainz
I'm having the same problem and I have a 32 bit version of ubuntu 12.04. Usually the first cd's meta data is found fine, after ripping and ejecting this cd I then have problems. Sometimes it works if I hit reload sometimes it doesn't and, usually, if it doesn't then rhythmbox completely shuts itself down. Very frustrating. The other thing I've noticed is that the little progress/search bar that is on when I put the first cd in doesn't appear when I hit reload for the second cd. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to rhythmbox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/787475 Title: Rhythmbox [0.12.8] [0.12.5] Not Fetching Album Information From MusicBrainz To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/rhythmbox/+bug/787475/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 315562] Re: spell check uses wrong English dictionary
Is the title of this bug maybe incorrect? I think the real problem is You can't select the default language you want Gedit to use for spell checking. Sounds like that was true in 2009 I think it is still true today, isn't it? Seems to be to me using Ubuntu 12.10. I live in France, most of my PC is in English, though the keyboard is French, and I only want spell checking when I write in French. Gedit decides I want English, for whatever reason ( I don't care what reason) I have to set French EVERY time I want to use it. What I would like (and absolutely expect) is to be able to select whatever language I want (in my case French) as default, then select whatever other language I want (maybe German, English, USA or whatever) if I want, occasionally, with fallback to French next time. I certainly don't expect to be uninstalling dictionaries to trick Gedit into doing something... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/315562 Title: spell check uses wrong English dictionary To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gedit/+bug/315562/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1158529] Re: gvfsd-http memory leaks
I suspect it is an instance of this bug: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=639777 I'm hitting this as well, with gvfsd-http eventually consuming almost 1 GB of memory on my system, so it's an important bug for me. [Bug 682788] Re: Improve Unity Global Menu
Selection bias. This is a bug report in which the global menu functionality on unmaximized windows is reported as a bug. Of course the vast majority of people on this page are against this feature. So I'll speak in favor of it. Personally i love global menu (both on maximized and unmaximized windows) and it's *the* feature that keeps Ubuntu my OS of choice. Since when I got used to it no global menu - not an options as personal OS (and my screen is 1600x900, for those saying that if the screen is 1280x1024, than global menu is bad) For those talking about auto-hiding and 'easy discovery of menu options': there's HUD for that now. It's amazing. The concept behind it has been proved successful in the past, on desktops: dash/launchers vs desktop icons, web search engines vs web directories. Example: I wonder if GIMP has a function for lens flare. With HUD i press alt and type 'flare'. With the menu, i explore lists and sublists of menus categories until I find it (assuming I don't miss it)- The only case when the normal menus are better is when I want to just 'explore' the options, without looking for anything in particular (Let's see if there is something cool), How many times does that happens? 1 per application per lifetime? Well, for that time you can do the enormous effort of moving the mouse a little higher. A lot of people here lamenting Unity sounds a lot like those windows users that try some distro and say Where is the start button? What, there isn't one?! This OS is stupid!. That being said, unless it's difficult to implement (I doubt it) I don't see why not give the users the option to disable it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to metacity in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/682788 Title: Improve Unity Global Menu To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ayatana-design/+bug/682788/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
Re: [Bug 682788] Re: Improve Unity Global Menu
@Leonardo Donelli: Have you actually read this bug report at all? People here is not against the global menu per se. Gosh, even the title says it very clear!!! All we want is IMPROVEMENT, which in this case means some pretty well argued options (compared to the total lack of rationale for the current status...). The HUD doesn't solve the problems illustrated here. It's just a different way of accessing the menus (keyboard vs mouse), not a reason to hide them.

[Bug 1075923] Re: nautilus hangs copying large directories from a samba share
This problem may be more serious than I previously thought. Moments ago I moved a 254MB file from my desktop computer to a network drive, and it seemed to transfer instantaneously. The file was deleted on my computer and when I looked at the network drive the file name was there, but the content was 0 bytes. The file was lost and the work to create it will have to be redone from scratch. Now it appears I can no longer trust moving files and will need to copy them and verify they are identical on both the source and the destination before manually deleting the source. Is there a Linux distribution unaffected by this bug? If it is not going to be fixed I'm willing to change to another OS as I can't work without confidence that my files are secure when I move them to a permanent storage for others to access. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gvfs in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1075923 Title: nautilus hangs copying large directories from a samba share To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gvfs/+bug/1075923/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
