[Bug 1075923] Re: nautilus hangs copying large directories from a samba share

2013-05-17 Thread Jussi H.
I was effect by bug #1077696 when I started using ubuntu 12.10 and had to
revert using 12.04. Both Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and Linux Mint 13 are not effected by
bug #1077696. Probably other distros based on ubuntu 12.04 are ok as well.
Bug #1077696 is marked as duplicate for this one.

[Bug 984785] Re: .goutputstream files polluting $HOME

2013-05-17 Thread moko138
I discovered how to reproduce the bug with Gedit and Firefox :
- Create a text file, and save it with this encoding type :
Occidental (ISO-8859-15)
- Type several lines in it. Save it again.
- Go to a web page with a certain encoding, UTF8 compatible, but not compatible
with Occidental (ISO-8859-15).
- Copy a few lines including, for instance, go-to-note, or (french) puce (you
know, that sort of symbol you can put, instead of a number or a letter, at the
beginning of a line or of a paragraph, when listing items). (Sorry for my rusty
english and the lack of precision).
-5) Then go back to your text file : paste the formerly copied lines from the
web page, but NOT at the beginning.
- Have a look at the clock on your pc, memorize the time. Try to save your file
: you get normally an error message, pointing the different encoding types.
(You could save the copied text if you created for it a new UTF8 encoded file.
It is not necessary for this experience.)

  Here you are ! the new .goutputstream-XYZ123 file already exists, not empty.
- Gedit, open file, and you can see, in the dialog box, your new
.goutputstream-XYZ123 file, dated when you tried unsuccessfully to save your
txt file.
- If you open it, you'll find only the first Occidental (ISO-8859-15) lines
of your file, but not the end : the saving stopped when encountering different
encoding.
  In order to get a 0 ko .goutputstream-XYZ123 file, just do the same process,
but, at the 5th step, paste at the very beginning.

[Bug 1178967] Re: When upgraded to Ubuntu 13.04, white borders appeared around customized icons.

2013-05-17 Thread Salem
Probably Matteo is talking of this (annex, screenshots and src icons):
http://askubuntu.com/questions/279332/how-can-i-remove-the-gray-boxes-
around-custom-folder-icons

To reproduce:
* Select any folder in Nautilus - left click - Properties
* Choose a different icon;
* The selected folder appears with the selected icon, but with the border seen
in the question at AskUbuntu.

On older versions (Precise at least) the border is not present.

From the comments it seems it was already reported in bugzilla (and
fixed), but still happens in Raring.

[Bug 984785] Re: .goutputstream files polluting $HOME

2013-05-17 Thread moko138
I made a small mistake in my #119 comment :
if I paste at the very beginning of the Occidental (ISO-8859-15) file, I do NOT
get an empty file : my .goutputstream-XYZ123 contains the pasted text. I can't
get intentionally an empty file.

  And one more time, I got this with a 32 bits Pentium M processor, GDM
and Ubuntu 10.04 4.

[Bug 958238] Re: Several options for rhythmbox-client are non-functional

2013-05-17 Thread Joe Wells
The part about --no-start not working also affects me. I did not check
the other options. I have the Ubuntu rhythmbox 2.96-0ubuntu4.2 package
installed (Ubuntu 12.04 Precise plus updates).

I checked in the source code and the option sets the variable no_start
in the file remote/dbus/rb-client.c. There is no other use of this
variable in the entire package source tree. Did this feature used to
exist and was removed incompletely? Or maybe the code that uses this
was not committed in time?

Sorry, I meant GNOME bug 678261. The link in my previous comment is
correct, so just ignore the number in the text.

[Bug 1181312] [NEW] Race to start gnome-settings-daemon in upstart user session

2013-05-17 Thread Jason Conti
Public bug reported:

It appears if enabling the upstart user session (
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/RaringRingtail/ReleaseNotes#Upstart_User_Sessions_.28technology_preview.29
) there is a race between gnome-session and upstart for who starts
gnome-settings-daemon first.

Most of the time on my system, it seems like upstart wins. I'm guessing
in that case, gnome-session tries to start it, fails and gives up, which
is fine.

When gnome-session wins however, upstart continues to respawn gnome-
settings-daemon indefinitely, usually causing the wrong icon theme to
load, and causing flickering on the desktop (most noticeable in a conky
window, but affecting other windows as well).

Since it is a race, it is difficult to reproduce, but it can be forced by:
1) enable upstart user sessions
2) mkdir -p ~/.config/upstart/
3) echo manual  ~/.config/upstart/gnome-settings-daemon.override
4) Log into the ubuntu session
5) initctl start gnome-settings-daemon;

Running: initctl stop gnome-settings-daemon; will stop the endless
respawn of gnome-settings-daemon when finished testing.

My current workaround is to disable /etc/xdg/gnome-settings-
daemon.desktop from starting, and let upstart take it.

[Bug 1181323] [NEW] Nautilus opens a new window when clicked to open an existing window

2013-05-17 Thread Abhishek
Public bug reported:

Open the new 'Files' browser and access a directory which is not in the
partition containing root and then minimise the window. If now you click
on it's icon in the unity panel to display the window again, the browser
opens a NEW window displaying the home directory.

This happens only when a directory external to the root drive is opened
initially. Also, the problem is resolved if the 'Files' icon is not
docked on the launcher.

2013-05-17 Thread Stéphane Graber
Sounds like a gnome-session bug as we're overriding the gnome-settings-
daemon desktop file in the XDG path to prevent just that:

stgraber@castiana:~/Desktop/menu$ env | grep XDG | grep upstart
XDG_CONFIG_DIRS=/etc/xdg/xdg-ubuntu:/usr/share/upstart/xdg:/etc/xdg

stgraber@castiana:~/Desktop/menu$ cat
/usr/share/upstart/xdg/autostart/gnome-settings-daemon.desktop

[Bug 1181312] Re: Race to start gnome-settings-daemon in upstart user session

2013-05-17 Thread Jason Conti
Ah, in that case this may just be a bug with my setup.
$HOME/.config/autostart/ is likely read before any of those directories,
and I have a copy of gnome-settings-daemon.desktop in there. Thanks for
the information. I'll delete it and continue testing, but this bug is
probably invalid.

Hi,

Indeed a local copy in .config/autostart would be higher priority than
our override in /usr/share/upstart/xdg and would explain what you saw.

hello Matthieu - thanks for quick reply !

:-)

well - it comes to my mind - the reason is simpler -

cairo-dock was installed before (old version of ubuntu ) and I simply
installed then the weekly-cairo-dock to that ! - have forgotten to
throw out
old-cairo-dock ???!!!

how do I solve this problem now ??? have to throw out both again, and to
re-install
weekly-cairo-dock again ???

sorry, for mess - but I was chaotic yesterday, because of wild frickle
fight the whole day until into the night,
with nvidia-drivers  GRR.

regards.
Val.

[Bug 1181165] Re: bold black background in low-bottom of dock

2013-05-17 Thread Matthieu Baerts
Ok thank you,

Can you check that you're using Compiz? E.g. by launching this command from a
terminal which should print something if Compiz is running:
   $ ps aux | grep [c]ompiz

If Compiz is running, can you give us more details about your video cards and
your video drivers?
   $ glxinfo | grep OpenGL
   $ lspci | grep VGA

And is it better without the OpenGL backend?
   $ cairo-dock -c

Or with the default theme?
   $ cairo-dock -d ~/cd-tmp

If you're not using Compiz, check if it's possible to use it or enable the
composite manager (if it's metacity: ):
   $ gsettings set org.gnome.metacity compositing-manager true

hello Matthieu !

your thoughts/suggestions did not help . . . and

I cannot install glx - not install xlib - and cannot install openGL . .
. because
each other is depending on next and there seems to be a glx-package
broken currently at ubuntu resp. at pear OS - this bug is already
reported at launchpad (have not found that page again) but not yet
solved, apparently because of an AMD-package which needs to be fixed and
is just reported there ...

so it is too - because of nvidia-driver . . . ( I have nvidia-chipset
with optimus / CUDA ) - and am frightened to uninstall nvidia-current .
. . cause then it smashes my whole installation at the wall ...
it is strange that nvidia-driver (of ubuntu) leaves xorg.conf - file
empty ??? and nvidia-driver-specific file for xorg.conf has different
name ??? (empty file) . . .

regards.
Val.

[Bug 1181165] Re: bold black background in low-bottom of dock

2013-05-17 Thread dschinn1001
Hello Matthieu,

problem is solved !!!

to your luck - it is NOT a bug of compiz or of cairo-dock.

it was really because of insufficient graphic-chip support by nvidia-
driver.

I just had again almost cramp because of nvidia-driver - there are 2 different
possibilities of driver
the package:
NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-310.51.run ( which is general for several GFORCE-xxxM-cards
(notebook)
and
NVIDIA_CUDA_SDK_1.1_Beta_Linux.run ( which is THE RIGHT PACKAGE in my case -
hybrid chipset GFORCE with CUDA and Optimus ... )

wow ! solved 3 things at one time ! compiz works cairo works - black
balcony disappeared ! and wobbly effect and full animations . . .
breath-taking ! - gasp - gasp - gasp !

so you can lean back ! compiz is correct and cairo-dock is correct !

cheers and happy coding !

It would be lovely if we had the preferred form of modification for this
image in the source package, so others could edit/update it too.
*cough*

[Bug 1181442] Re: gnome-control-center reads 'Ubuntu 13.04' on Saucy

2013-05-17 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Hi, could we please just use a slightly modified version of the patch Fedora
uses instead:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=695691

With the current workflow, the version number in that panel tends to be
out of date for much of the release cycle and it makes backports more
difficult.

[Bug 1181454] [NEW] empathy-accounts crashes on launch

2013-05-17 Thread Kane DAAAA
Public bug reported:

Bringing up the accounts windows just causes it to crash, no account
management can be performed. There is a popup about Ubuntu just stopped
working...

The title of the crash report is empathy-accounts crashed with SIGABRT
in raise()

StacktraceTop has the offending line raise() from /lib/x86_64-linux-
gnu/libc.so.6

Ubuntu release:
$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 12.10
Release:12.10

package version:
empathy:
  Installed: 3.6.0.3-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 3.6.0.3-0ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 3.6.0.3-0ubuntu1 0
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ quantal/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

Expectation: the Online Accounts window would open normally, and allow
me to create/remove accounts

Actual outcome: The window crashed as soon as it opened. Invoking
'empath-accounts' directly from the command line results in:
$ empathy-accounts
**
ERROR:empathy-user-info.c:252:fill_contact_info_grid: assertion failed: (spec
!= NULL)
Aborted (core dumped)

** Affects: empathy (Ubuntu)
