[Bug 1236077] Re: shotwell crashed with SIGABRT

2013-10-14 Thread Mark Bennison
It happens often enough that I thought it worthwhile to report as a bug,
but I can't reproduce it easily.

I have an old Canon DLSR and the transfer speed via USB was terrible so
I now do the transfer by taking the card out and putting it in a reader.
What I have found is that often, but not predictably, Shotwell will stop
responding whilst displaying the thumbnails - some times it will crash,
some times it will recover and continue - and in other cases there is no
issue (e.g. after restarting once crashed). This is all with the same
card. Typically I transfer once I have more than 50 pictures on the
card. I use a cheap generic USB2.0 card reader.

I don't know why there's no stack trace. Let me know if there's anything
else I can do to help.

Thanks.

[Bug 1239580] [NEW] gstreamer-tools package information is misleading

2013-10-14 Thread Douglas Bagnall
Public bug reported:

The executables packaged in gstreamer-tools are effectively aliases for
the similarly named files in gstreamer-tools-0.10, with some additional
magic that allows them to work with GStreamer 0.8 if it is there (and it
almost certainly isn't).

The package description makes it sound as the tools worked with
GStreamer 1.0. They don't. The attached patch to debian/control might
fix that.

[Bug 304889]

2013-10-14 Thread Simon McVittie
(In reply to comment #3)
 (In reply to comment #0)
  There's several bouncers that
support socks or by addition of a custom command CONNECT in the IRC
protocol that is used for selecting the target network that should be
  used.

Support for these would require use of a non-system-wide proxy.

For the SOCKS case, Bug #70333 outlines one possible way to achieve
that. I don't think any of the Telepathy maintainers are likely to
implement that any time soon, but I'd review patches.

Dear all,

Recently, I noticed that I was experiencing the same problem (Ubuntu

I use to create an SSH tunnel to a personal server (ssh -D ...) and
configure a system-wide proxy via this tunnel.

I will remove the proxy for the coming days and see if the problem
persists.

Pierre

[Bug 1075923] Re: nautilus hangs copying large directories from a samba share

2013-10-14 Thread tjboadwa
I've been running Ubuntu for about 7 months now, and currently have
12.10 running on a Dell Precision M90. I am experiencing this problem
with my NAS. The files copied fine but when I try to read or copy the
other way (to my computer from the NAS) with large directories the
Nautilus hangs.

Can someone give me step by step instructions on how to follow through
on this fix? It is not entirely clear to me how to do this. One thing
I should mention, I've only been into the command line a few times, so
I'm pretty new to the Linux world.

[Bug 1239886] [NEW] regression: keyboard backlight hotkeys no longer functional

2013-10-14 Thread Steve Magoun
Public bug reported:

A recent change to 13.10 has broken userspace control of the keyboard
backlight on my MacbookPro3,1. This was working well until about a week
ago (1st week of October 2013).

The backlight device in the kernel still works; for example this will turn off
the keyboard backlight:
echo 0 | sudo tee -a /sys/class/leds/smc\:\:kbd_backlight/brightness

Therefore I assume it's a gnome-settings-daemon (or upower?) regression.

To reproduce:
1) Login. Note the state of the keyboard backlight (should beon, 100%)
2) Press a keyboard backlight hotkey

Expected results:
Keyboard backlight changes when you press the hotkey

Actual results:
Nothing happens when you press any of the keyboard backlight hotkeys

[Bug 988138] Re: Iagno hangs every game or two in Ubuntu 12.04, is very slow to take AI turns, crashes, loops sounds and gives wrong score in the end. Worked fine in 11.10

2013-10-14 Thread Michael Catanzaro
Hi, most of these have been fixed upstream.

[1] is the AI freeze, [2] is a workaround (not really a fix) that stops
the looping sounds (probably the cause of the crash in comment #2), [3]
is for the broken scores (also reported at [4]), [5] is for when neither
player can move, [6] handles the undo bug.

I think the issue in comment #11 may have magically been fixed, but I'm
not sure.

I'm watching the upstream bug tracker at bugzilla.gnome.org - feel free
to report any further Iagno bugs you find directly there, but please
only if you've reproduced the issue in the most recent 3.8 or 3.10
release (currently 3.8.3 and 3.10.1).

[Bug 1177405] [NEW] Some apps prevent the screen from locking

2013-10-14 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Some apps (e.g. TuxPaint, but there are others, I think notably ones
that run in full screen) prevent the desktop from locking.

Only once you close those apps or windows does the screen lock (or does
it come up at any rate).

This is something that has bugged me (and therefore I think it qualifies
as a bug) on other distros, e.g. Mint as well.

[Bug 997479] Re: Keyboard layout is set to English until Primary keyboard is pressed

2013-10-14 Thread Robert Ancell
I'm not sure exactly where the problem lies for this but it's unlikely
the display manager can solve it. It's either a display problem in the
indicator or the session not setting it correctly.

Until it's fixed, I wrote a cron command that checks that file every 5
minutes and deletes it whenever it reaches 500Mb. That's still too
large but I don't mind looking at the log to see what's happening once
in a while. At leat my /home doesn't boil over.

 Title:
nautilus hangs copying large directories from a samba share

 Status in GVFS:
   Fix Released
Status in “gvfs” package in Ubuntu:
   Fix Released
Status in “gvfs” source package in Precise:
   In Progress
Status in “gvfs” source package in Raring:
   Fix Committed

 Bug description:
   Impact:
copies from/to samba share often end up hanging

   Test case:
   - visit a smb location in nautilus
   - copies data from/to it (some non trivial directories makes the issues
 easier to trigger)
   - the copy should complete without hanging

   Regression potentiel:
Check that nautilus is still working correctly and than you don't have
issues copying data from/to remote locations

   ---

   Problem
   ===
Copying files to and from samba shares (this includes Windows shares) is
unreliable in Ubuntu 12.10 and Ubuntu 13.04 when using nautilus' integrated
samba client (gvfs-smb): The copy randomly hangs after a few files or a few
 GB.

   Workaround
   ==
Until gvfs-smb is fixed, use the kernel samba client (cifs) that works
reliably, is faster, but needs some terminal commands to get going:
   # sudo -s
   # mkdir /mnt/cifs
   # mount -t cifs -o user=YOUR_SAMBA_USER -o uid=YOUR_LINUX_USER
 //SAMBA_SERVER/SAMBA_SHARE /mnt/cifs
It will ask for you password, you can then access the shared files at
 /mnt/cifs.
