[Bug 1242248] [NEW] Gnome Control Center crash when trying to change lanquage or keyboard layout

2013-10-20 Thread Denis Garcia
Public bug reported:

After I upgraded to ubuntu 13.10, the key to switch the keyboard layout
was not functionning anymore.

I tried to access the Keyboard Layout, and the Region Language
settings in the Gnome Control Center, but it simply crashes when I click
most icons in the Gnome Control Center. At best, it loads something then
crashes.

[Bug 1226962] Re: Hotkeys not functional in non-latin keyboard layout in 13.10

2013-10-20 Thread Roman Vorobets
I use Dvorak and Russian layouts. Now hotkeys in Russian layout work
like the layout was QWERTY, not Dvorak, which is very inconvenient, as I
have to use different physical keys when I switch layouts. It worked
flawlessly for years, and now it's broken.

[Bug 1194328] Re: should check that hibernate is really allowed before listing it

2013-10-20 Thread Stephan Schaefer
I am also use hibernate often. I understand a importand failure!

In some cases the hardware after hibernating is changed:

Maybe:

I connected at home a second monitor and ad work i wake it up with only
the laptop-screen

Or

I used a Blootooth-Dongle or a USB-Flash Or connected a USB-Printer and
others and at waking up the devices are not present!

In many of this cases the wake up crashed.

Also another problem I have at 13.04!

If I connected to internet with a Bloototh-DUN (for example Nokia C6) the
system crashes after disconnecting complete!!!
The crash is complete and no chance for sending the crash-report because it is
complete crashed!

Hi William,

Your PPA really helped me and I was able to set my hotkey to Shift +
Control L, however, CTRL + SHIFT + TAB combination, which I use to
switch to previous tab in browser, doesn't work anyome. I am pretty sure
that is related.

Would appreciate it if you coud take a look at this.

[Bug 1225405] Re: gdm fails to connect to screen after installing nvidia-319 drivers

2013-10-20 Thread Paul le Roux
The problem was that .xinitrc/.xsessionrc was not run when using gdm so adding
the lines
xrandr --setprovideroutputsource modesetting NVIDIA-0
xrandr --auto
in /etc/gdm/Init/Default fixed the problem, but lead to other errors later. (I
reported them as different errors as they aren't related to gdm - as far as I
can tell)

If someone can just please close this bug report please

sending files: GDBus.error.org.openobex.Error.Failed:Unable to request
session

trying to send file from phone: fails

bluetooth-applet: missing from package

IMPORTANT:

to satya: do not try to use rfcomm. it's utterly broken, crashes the
system and the crash happens in such a way that it is delayed wrt the
actual issue causing it. for seconds, maybe minutes, your kernel works
with data areas that may get rewritten with garbage. scary. may lead to
severe data loss. now fixed in kernel 3.12 but fix will not be
backported and ubuntu does not even ack that there is a bug and keeps
resetting bug report to unconfirmed/incomplete state.

[Bug 1242330] [NEW] Shortcut for compose key has no effect

2013-10-20 Thread B Clausius
Public bug reported:

1) Open System Settings
2) Navigate to Keyboard-Shortcuts-Typing

Is seems that this shortcut is stored in the gsettings scheme
org.gnome.desktop.input-sources in the key xkb-options

$ setxkbmap -option compose:rwin

applied with setxkbmap too.

[Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.

2013-10-20 Thread Lockal
@nrbrtx, Gnome 3.10 from Gnome PPA allows to switch with ctrl+shift, so
no reason to blame Gnome here. The problem is in Ubuntu infrastructure
in common (unity, gsd, ibus, etc.). My wild guess is that Unity now
intercepts all modifier keys (not just Alt like it was before) and then
when user presses any normal key it passes the keypress event to the
application.

[Bug 1242408] [NEW] Whole system freezes while copying files

2013-10-20 Thread Tanguy P
Public bug reported:

The same issue occurred to me 3 times today in Ubuntu 13.10, under
different circumstances.

I was copying files in Nautilus from my internal HD to an external HD,
when after about one minute the whole system froze to the point that I
had to shut down my PC brutally using the power button.

Here are the details about the drives and partitions:
- Internal: 500 GB drive, 460 GB NTFS partition, distinct from my Ubuntu
partition
- External: 1 TB, one single NTFS partition

I've been using Ubuntu for just about 4 weeks, but before today I'd been
reading and writing from both drives involved without any issue. I was not able
to clearly identify the particular conditions that were causing the copy
operation to fail, as the circumstances varied:
- In one occurrence of the bug, I also had a second external HD (320 GB)
plugged in; however, when the problem reoccurred this was no longer the case.
- The folder I was trying to copy that first caused the issue was an SVN
repository (30 MB). However, I was subsequently able to copy it succesfully.
Besides, later on the issue occurred with a different folder containing photos
(12 GB).

[Bug 1242420] [NEW] Memory leak in Gimp 2.8.6

2013-10-20 Thread jondecker76
Public bug reported:

I just upgraded from 13.10 from 13.04. My wife is a professional
photographer and relies on Gimp for the brunt of her editing.

After the upgrade, the system would routinely slow to a crawl while she
is working. This is on a modern system with 4GB of RAM.

We started watching memory usage in Top while she edited to try to see
what the problem was. Every time a new filter, plugin, tool, etc is used
- the used memory goes up and the free memory goes down. When the
tool/filter/plugin is finished, this memory is never freed back up. This
continues all the way until we are using swap space and things then
really slow to a crawl. Closing Gimp frees all of the memory, then it
will work fine again for a while during use until all the free memory
leaks over again, at which time she must save her work, close gimp and
start again.

[Bug 1148033] Re: GDBus.Error:org.openobex:Error.Failed: Unable to request session

2013-10-20 Thread Maja Kurcius
I have the same bug in newly installed ubuntu 13.10 (clean install).
There was a problem with even pairing my Galaxy SII phone with my Dell Latitude
E4300. When I tried to pair it via the phone, it did, but I couldn't send or
receive files from and to any of the devices. But when I tried to pair it via
my laptop, it wouldn't even pair. Just the message that it failed. Also in both
cases no request or message was seen on any device.
I managed to pair it, however, trying to do it on both devices simultaneously.
And then the message appears on both devices.
I still wasn't able to send or receive files because the connection was off
according to my laptop. However, I found a workaround for this too - you have
to establish the connection, e.g. try to connect from the phone (it establishes
the connection for a few seconds) and while it's on, send the file(s). It works
then. I only tried it with a small picture though. I hope it helps someone who
needs it.
Previously, in ubuntu 12.04, I was able to use it with my previous phone (SE
G502) but only through browse files on the device or sending files, it
wouldn't receive files.
Anyway, it would be nice to be able to use bluetooth without any problems.

[Bug 1226962] Re: Hotkeys not functional in non-latin keyboard layout in 13.10

2013-10-20 Thread Andreas Tsourouflis
I have found a workaround here:
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=167687

This bug affects only Libreoffice. In other applications (e.g. Gedit,
Nautilus, Thunderbird etc.), the shortcuts work even after switching
layouts. If you remove libreoffice-gtk and libreoffice-gnome, the
problem is solved, although libreoffice becomes very ugly.

It should be noted that the bug affects both Ubuntu 13.10 and
UbuntuGnome 13.10. I have tried this workaround in both an Ubuntu and an
UbuntuGnome installation. Libreoffice In Ubuntu became unusable,
although the bug disappeared, whereas in UbuntuGnome Libreoffice could
still be used.

[Bug 1206945] Re: workspace switcher does not work with up/down arrow commands

2013-10-20 Thread Attila Rakosi
Ok I found it. To continue with Robert, open CompizConfig Settings
manager if you have it or download it from the Ubuntu Software Center.
In the Desktop category, click on Desktop Wall. Then under Bindings and
Move with window within walls you with find the shortcuts to the
workspace switcher. On the right hand side you will find a backspace
icon on every setting, that is the reset value button. Click on the
reset for Move up and Move down. That should fix it. Hoped it helped.

[Bug 1242439] [NEW] New menu item goes into wrong menu

2013-10-20 Thread DAP
Public bug reported:

After updating to Ubuntu 13.10, I found that the update had moved a bunch of
programs around in my menus.
I attempted to move the Main Menu item from the other directory back into the
preferences directory where it belongs, but failed.
1st I tried drag drop, but that did not work.
next I tried creating a new menu item in preferences, but each time I tried
this, it showed up in other instead.
I will now figure out where the menu stores its config file and see if I can
hand edit it.

[Bug 1242408] Re: Whole system freezes while copying files

2013-10-20 Thread Tanguy P
** Description changed:

(12 GB).

+ **EDIT**: After the issue occurred again, I feel like I should add some
+ more details regarding how exactly it manifests.
+
+ The exact symptoms of the freeze are variable:
+ - Sometimes, the system just gets downright frozen - I can't do anything,
even move the mouse.
+ - Sometimes, I'm able to move the mouse around, but that's all I can do.
+ - Last time it happened, when I saw that the copying was blocked I was able
to close the copy dialog. But a few seconds afterwards, all Nautilus windows
were grayed out, so I pressed Alt+F2 in order to open xkill. The menu did open,
but the system then froze before I could launch xkill. **END OF EDIT**

[Bug 1241272] Re: Cannot create new menu items or restore system configuration in Alacarte

2013-10-20 Thread Roger John
Ok, some investigation reveals that dragdrop was dropped in 12.10. I had 12.04
running prior, with menus already setup, and upgraded later thus not noticing
this. So this would be a separate issue.
Besides that, i checked that alacarte actually creates at least item- and
folder-entries in ~/.local/share/, but i don't know where to look for
ordering-configuration, i.e. what stores information about which item goes
where. Maybe the problem is there.
Still, i wonder why dragdrop vanished. How shall I move items where i want
them? Or am i not supposed to do that? Is menu structure now fixed?

[Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.

2013-10-20 Thread Alex Kapranoff
Just updated from the PPA
https://launchpad.net/~attente/+archive/1218322 and the bug almost
fixed!

Versions are:

 gnome-control-center 1:3.6.3-0ubuntu44ppa2
 gnome-settings-daemon 3.8.5-0ubuntu9ppa4

I successfully switched from Alt+5 to Ctrl-Shift as my main layout
changer. Even Caps Lock works but along with changing the input source
it works as usual Caps Lock actually locking to capitals. This default
CapsLock behaviour should be cancelled when it is used to change input
source.

This issue is the only one I can find right now.

[Bug 1242475] [NEW] Nautilus overwrites existing files when merging folders

2013-10-20 Thread Erik Csin
Public bug reported:

I am using Ubuntu 13.10 64bits.

When I drag and drop a folder from my primary internal hard drive to my
second internal hard drive that contains a folder containing files with
the same name than in the source folder, Nautilus prompts Merge folder
folder1?.

I check Apply this action to all files and click Merge.

And now, Nautilus overwrites files with the same name in the destination
folder instead of prompting me if I want to skip copying existing files.

I have the same problem when copying a folder to an external hard drive.

This problem doesn't occur in Ubuntu 12.10 that I was using a few days
ago before upgrading to 13.10. It doesn't occur neither when merging
folders on the same hard drive. It only happens when the source folder
and the destination folder are on two different hard drives.

2013-10-20 Thread isotope
Affects me. Panasonic CF-52 upgraded from 13.04 to 13.10

After playing a bit found out:
Unable to set Alt-Shift. Also could set Shift-Alt !!??? in settings
After setting Shift -Alt could not switch with Al-Shift.

Fianlly could use combination but in a very unconvenient way: press
Shift, Press Alt, Unpress Shift, Unpress Alt.

I take it there is a big issue with reading key codes and ordering.
Combination supposed to work either way.

Hope this bug will be resolved soon.
Thanks.

2013-10-20 Thread Eugenio Aguilar
Public bug reported:

Cursor disappears using Smplayer after upgrading to ubuntu 13.10
but responds to clics in menu options.
Smplayer 0.8 3-1 is my default option and worked nicely in ubuntu 13.04

My computer is Dell vostro 330 with memory 3.7 GiB,
Intel® Core™ i3 CPU M 380 @ 2.53GHz × 4
and integrated graphics:Intel® Ironlake Mobile x86/MMX/SSE2
OS type 32-bit
Disk 1.9 TB

I download Parole Media Player and the cursor disapears also with this
application

Thank you for your interest.
Eugenio
