[Bug 1244090] [NEW] Pressing keyboard shortcut to switch keyboard layout causes temporary loss of focus
You have been subscribed to a public bug: When pressing keyboard shourtcut for switching keyboard layout, focus temporary switches from active text input to something else, then restores back when releasing keys used to switch. Maybe even active window loses focus, but window frame does not shows this (window header remains to look active). For example: when I press ctrl+shift here, when writing this description, yellow frame disappears from text input box, text caret disappears too; they appear again when releasing ctrl+shift. The same occurs in all other programs, i.e. terminal. It causes serious annoyance, for example in Twitter when losing focus in Reply text box, reply rolls up and I have to click it again with mouse and set caret to correct place each time I switch keyboard layouts. Other key combinations, not only ctrl+shift, also cause this. I was affected by this bug (Suspend-Resume-EnterPassword resulted in HUD displaying). I enabled proposed, upgraded this morning (package version 3.8.5-0ubuntu11.1 amd64 is now installed). [Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.
I just upgrade package from -proposed on another machine. This time, I didn't clear any setting before upgrade. The result is when i set the input switching to Alt+Shift, it's shown as Alt+Shift+Next Group and Alt+Shift doesn't change input language. So i cleared key org/gnome/desktop/input-sources/xkb-options in doconf-editor and set the input switching again, it's worked as expected. So, it seems like we only have to clear old settings in dconf, as i'm not clear anything in /etc/default/keyboard. I think it's appropriate task of gnome-settings-daemon. How do you think? P.S. [Bug 1242307] Re: Doesn't report NTP connection problems
Thanks for the report, Audiger. Ubuntu uses the standard NTP http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Network_Time_Protocol for its time checking. As mentioned both there and in https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuTime#Troubleshooting, NTP uses UDP on port 123. If a public network blocks this port, the public network is misconfigured. That isn't the fault of indicator-datetime at all. [Bug 1244366] Re: no easy way to disable screensaver on 12.04 without installing additional tools
I finally was able to prevent the screen to become black after inactivity by running in a terminal: sudo xset s off I have no idea what that is (just copied and pasted it from some askubuntu answer) and it's absolutely insane that you have to write a command from a terminal in order to prevent the screen to turn black. The very fact there are tons of questions in forums about how to complelety turn off screensaver in Ubuntu means there's something badly wrong with it. ALL system settings should be found under System Settings, and screen saving options should be easily and readily available under Power. By the way, I notice the bug has been assigned to the package gnome- control-center. [Bug 1244696] [NEW] status bar flickers when changing image
Public bug reported: What you expected to happen: The image viewer should not distract the user when watching images. This should also apply to switching between different images. What happened instead: The described effect applies especial to images of the same size, because the shape of the image doesn't change, the only moving part is the EOG interface. When switching between images the status bar flickers. The reason is that it displays for some milliseconds the string 'Opening image file:///home'. [Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.
Having the most recent packages from the -proposed, I noticed some strange and different scenarious. Firs of all, on my laptop running GNOME 3.8 from the GNOME3 PPA: 1. I _am_ able to change the keyboard layout with the (now default) Super+Space combo; however, 2. Whenever I press my old combo of choice (Shift+Shift), the layout (whichever is activated) is changed to a English one despite me not even having it on the layout list. What is even stranger, despite keyboard layout being switched to an English one, I see the indicator's label changing as if it is normally cycling through the layouts. No matter how many times I would press the aforementioned combo, I am unable to switch back to any of the layouts on my list. Solution: to press Super+Space or with the mouse. Secondly, on another laptop running Unity: 1. I am _not_ able to change the keyboard layout with the default Super+Space combo, nothing happens when I press it. Or rather it just inputs a space wherever the input cursor is. 2. I _am_ able to change and cycle through the layouts after changing the default Super+Space combo (which does not work) to Shift+Alt. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1218322 Title: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc. To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/hundredpapercuts/+bug/1218322/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.
There is also a problem with different apps, liks X2GO Client for example. If inside a remote desktop i have an ALT+Shift combo for a language cycling and if i choose the same combo on my local PC i end up with the problem that on a local PC layout switches normally, but when i connect to a remote server using x2go client alt+shift cycles only layout on a local PC and not on a remote one - it just stays the same there. If i choose a CAPS LOCK on both local and remote machines it cycles ok but on a remote besides a language change i also get capital letters ... But i want to use alt+shift, so the caps lock case does not really bother me. Also it should be mentioned (maybe it is another bug) that different global hotkeys like ctrl+alt+T for launching terminal does not work unless you are in a US (or just latin) layout. I still have a laptop with ubuntu 13.04 and everything i have described over works ok. It worked OK until the 13.10 upgrade on a desktop.

[Bug 1205055] Re: Impossible to change column width of Nautilus in list view
Resizing columns doesn't seem to be a problem for me with Nautilus 3.8.2 on 13.10 x86-64 as just released (for the Name and Size fields - Type and Modified are apparently 'wide enough' and not adjustable), but I'm experiencing something potentially related: Intermittently, the Type and Modified columns do not respond to a click to sort by that column. Resizing the width of the window seems to be the most reliable workaround to get them responsive. When the columns can't be resized, do the fields still respond to 'sort- by' clicks? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1205055 Title: Impossible to change column width of Nautilus in list view To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1205055/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1000270] Re: Laptop backlight brightness increases/decreases 2 steps each time
This issue is still present in Saucy. I have seen it happen with many laptops, including the HP Compaq 6910p laptop on which I am typing this. It spans across multiple Ubuntu releases. My deduction is that the brightness events are processed by two different recipients which creates the problem.
