[Bug 1244548] [NEW] Keyboard shortcut for changing keyboard layout does not work on lock screen

2013-10-25 Thread kolen
Public bug reported:

Shortcut for changing keyboard layout does not work on lock screen (to
change keyboard layout for entering password).

- Switch to some non-english layout (otherwise lock screen will not have layout
indicator at all)
- Lock the screen
- Press your shortcut for changing keyboard layout (i.e. ctrl+shift) -- it will
not change layout
- Clicking layout indicator near password entry box works

[Bug 1244090] [NEW] Pressing keyboard shortcut to switch keyboard layout causes temporary loss of focus

2013-10-25 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When pressing keyboard shourtcut for switching keyboard layout, focus
temporary switches from active text input to something else, then
restores back when releasing keys used to switch. Maybe even active
window loses focus, but window frame does not shows this (window header
remains to look active).

For example: when I press ctrl+shift here, when writing this
description, yellow frame disappears from text input box, text caret
disappears too; they appear again when releasing ctrl+shift. The same
occurs in all other programs, i.e. terminal.

It causes serious annoyance, for example in Twitter when losing focus in
Reply text box, reply rolls up and I have to click it again with mouse
and set caret to correct place each time I switch keyboard layouts.

Other key combinations, not only ctrl+shift, also cause this.

2013-10-25 Thread Derwin McGeary
I was affected by this bug (Suspend-Resume-EnterPassword resulted in HUD
displaying). I enabled proposed, upgraded this morning (package version
3.8.5-0ubuntu11.1 amd64 is now installed). Suspend and resume now
results in the desired screen with no HUD. I haven't noticed any
regressions yet. Thanks!

[Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.

2013-10-25 Thread Ratchanan Srirattanamet
I just upgrade package from -proposed on another machine. This time, I didn't
clear any setting before upgrade. The result is when i set the input switching
to Alt+Shift, it's shown as Alt+Shift+Next Group and Alt+Shift doesn't change
input language. So i cleared key org/gnome/desktop/input-sources/xkb-options in
doconf-editor and set the input switching again, it's worked as expected.
So, it seems like we only have to clear old settings in dconf, as i'm not clear
anything in /etc/default/keyboard. I think it's appropriate task of
gnome-settings-daemon. How do you think?

P.S. If anyone want to see, I've attached my /etc/default/keyboard
below.

[Bug 1242258] Re: Can not make new folder nor bookmarks

2013-10-25 Thread garypeg
When you open Nautilus, you should Across the top you should read,
File, Edit, View, Go, Bookmarks, Help. Upon upgrade I have only
File.Under File I have New Window, Connect to Server, Enter
Location, Bookmarks, Preferences, About Files, Help, and Quit. Under
Bookmarks you can see the system generated bookmarks such as Download,
Desktop, Videos. (When I clicked on one of those just now Nautilus
crashed). But there is no way to make a new bookmark, including when
you right click on a folder. Make New Bookmark is grayed out.

I hope this provides enough detail.

I see now that (make) New Folder has been moved from the File to gear
icon within Nautilus. There my comment about 'can not make new folder'
is no longer a concern.

thanks

[Bug 1242307] Re: Doesn't report NTP connection problems

2013-10-25 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
Thanks for the report, Audiger. Ubuntu uses the standard NTP
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Network_Time_Protocol for its time
checking. As mentioned both there and in
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuTime#Troubleshooting, NTP uses
UDP on port 123. If a public network blocks this port, the public
network is misconfigured.

That isn't the fault of indicator-datetime at all. But System Settings,
and *possibly* indicator-datetime, could display that problem and
currently don't.

I use Capslock for switching keyboard layouts, it works now, but one
problem still persists:

when session is locked, capslock does not change layout (in the password
field, for unlocking). For instance, if session become locked when I
have russian keyboard layout , I cannot switch it for english to enter
the password.

[Bug 1244366] Re: no easy way to disable screensaver on 12.04 without installing additional tools

2013-10-25 Thread matteo sisti sette
I finally was able to prevent the screen to become black after inactivity by
running in a terminal:
  sudo xset s off

I have no idea what that is (just copied and pasted it from some askubuntu
answer) and it's absolutely insane that you have to write a command from a
terminal in order to prevent the screen to turn black.
The very fact there are tons of questions in forums about how to complelety
turn off screensaver in Ubuntu means there's something badly wrong with it. ALL
system settings should be found under System Settings, and screen saving
options should be easily and readily available under Power.

By the way, I notice the bug has been assigned to the package gnome-
control-center. I guess that is what shows up in dash as System
Settings, right?

[Bug 1244696] [NEW] status bar flickers when changing image

2013-10-25 Thread Thibaut Brandscheid
Public bug reported:

What you expected to happen:
The image viewer should not distract the user when watching images. This should
also apply to switching between different images.

What happened instead:
The described effect applies especial to images of the same size, because the
shape of the image doesn't change, the only moving part is the EOG interface.
When switching between images the status bar flickers. The reason is that it
displays for some milliseconds the string 'Opening image file:///home'.

Suggested solution:
Display the 'Opening image' string only if the next image hasn't been loaded
after a certain amount of time (1 second).

[Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.

2013-10-25 Thread Žygimantas Beručka
Having the most recent packages from the -proposed, I noticed some
strange and different scenarious.

Firs of all, on my laptop running GNOME 3.8 from the GNOME3 PPA:

1. I _am_ able to change the keyboard layout with the (now default) Super+Space
combo; however,
2. Whenever I press my old combo of choice (Shift+Shift), the layout (whichever
is activated) is changed to a English one despite me not even having it on the
layout list. What is even stranger, despite keyboard layout being switched to
an English one, I see the indicator's label changing as if it is normally
cycling through the layouts. No matter how many times I would press the
aforementioned combo, I am unable to switch back to any of the layouts on my
list. Solution: to press Super+Space or with the mouse.

Secondly, on another laptop running Unity:

1. I am _not_ able to change the keyboard layout with the default Super+Space
combo, nothing happens when I press it. Or rather it just inputs a space
wherever the input cursor is.
2. I _am_ able to change and cycle through the layouts after changing the
default Super+Space combo (which does not work) to Shift+Alt.

For the record, here is a thread summarising the design issues regarding
 end-to-end security in Telepathy:
 http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/telepathy/2012-June/006122.html

Also, don't forget about the ZRTP option, as discussed in the Bug

[Bug 1244736] [NEW] upstart configuration for user launches an extra ssh-agent

2013-10-25 Thread Bruno Vasselle
Public bug reported:

Symptom: the ssh-agent does not have my key anymore after upgrade to
13.10

I use kdm and pam-ssh to deal with my keys.

It appears that pam-ssh does its job, and my key it actually there... in
another agent: I can see 2 ssh-agent processes, and changing the
SSH_AUTH_SOCK and SSH_AGENT_PID environment variables so that they refer
to the other one reveals my key...

The script /usr/share/upstart/sessions/ssh-agent.conf launches ssh-
agent, regardless of whether it is already there or not.

Adding the line:
[ $SSH_AGENT_PID ] { stop; exit 0; } # already running

before line:
eval $(ssh-agent) /dev/null

in the script does restore the behavior before upgrade.

[Bug 1239218] Re: [regression] Rhythmbox crashes with segfault when playing next track

This bug is affecting me too. However disabling the Cover art search

Currently, I'm not playing music from a library; just audio CDs. Playing

2013-10-25 Thread sunbird
Public bug reported:

Expected behavior:
* When dragging a file from a smb share to an email, the file should attach.

Actual behavior:

message, thunderbird presents this error:

Sending of message failed. There was an error attaching

[Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.

2013-10-25 Thread Sys
There is also a problem with different apps, liks X2GO Client for
example. If inside a remote desktop i have an ALT+Shift combo for a
language cycling and if i choose the same combo on my local PC i end up
with the problem that on a local PC layout switches normally, but when i
connect to a remote server using x2go client alt+shift cycles only
layout on a local PC and not on a remote one - it just stays the same
there. If i choose a CAPS LOCK on both local and remote machines it
cycles ok but on a remote besides a language change i also get capital
letters ... But i want to use alt+shift, so the caps lock case does not
really bother me.

Also it should be mentioned (maybe it is another bug) that different
global hotkeys like ctrl+alt+T for launching terminal does not work
unless you are in a US (or just latin) layout.

I still have a laptop with ubuntu 13.04 and everything i have described
over works ok. It worked OK until the 13.10 upgrade on a desktop.

Tested it in a fresh Ubuntu 13.10 GNOME LiveCD.

This is how you set up the configuration:
Go to Gnome Control Center»Region Language»Input Sources
Add Hebrew as another layout.
Open Gnome Tweak Tool and under typing»Keys to Change Layout select Alt+Shift.
Open gedit and type in English.
Alt Shift, to switch to Hebrew.
Keyboard indicator is showing he, although while typing English chars are

[Bug 1205055] Re: Impossible to change column width of Nautilus in list view

2013-10-25 Thread floid
Resizing columns doesn't seem to be a problem for me with Nautilus 3.8.2
on 13.10 x86-64 as just released (for the Name and Size fields - Type
and Modified are apparently 'wide enough' and not adjustable), but I'm
experiencing something potentially related:

Intermittently, the Type and Modified columns do not respond to a
click to sort by that column. Resizing the width of the window seems to
be the most reliable workaround to get them responsive.

When the columns can't be resized, do the fields still respond to 'sort-
by' clicks?

[Bug 1000270] Re: Laptop backlight brightness increases/decreases 2 steps each time

2013-10-25 Thread Joonas Saarinen
This issue is still present in Saucy. I have seen it happen with many
laptops, including the HP Compaq 6910p laptop on which I am typing this.
It spans across multiple Ubuntu releases. My deduction is that the
brightness events are processed by two different recipients which
creates the problem. The aforementioned brightness_switch_enabled=N
setting seems to mute one of the receivers and thus serves as a
functional temporary workaround for many computers.

I just ran into the same problem - when trying to copy a file to a FAT32
formatted USB stick. I'm wondering if the target filesystem format has
something to do with it?

[Bug 1244856] [NEW] System resource history graphs disappear

2013-10-25 Thread Jeb E.
Public bug reported:

This happens every single time I either change windows in Gnome 3.x or
try to change the color of the indicators for my CPU cores, etc in the
app... When I do this, the x and u axis on the graphs completely
disappear, leaving me with graphs that merely mean nothing, that
continue showing what's going on on the system, but don't have the
numbers to back up the stats with.

Please fix.
