[Bug 1224732] Re: Custom keyboard shortcuts don't work

2014-10-29 Thread gazhay
I have had a bit of success.

Everything is working again.

I did 3 things:

1. Removed all custom keybindings in dconf editor
2. Installed and the uninstalled xbindkeys
3. Made the system create an .Xmodmap in my user directory

Now all shortcuts are working, including a terminal script being run
from my eject key.

Can't say for certain what fixed the issue, but for now working (and
i'll be avoiding the gnome control centre for adjusting shortcuts until
that is patched)

[Bug 1387131] [NEW] Cannot change evince key bindings

2014-10-29 Thread G.M.
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I've tried the process to Create [my] own custom shortcuts described here:
https://help.gnome.org/users/evince/stable/shortcuts.html.en
It does not work: evince does nothing when I hover the pointer over the menu
item I want to change and click any key (BTW the shortcut text remains
greyed-out, not sure if it's normal...).

I've also found on some other pages that I must use 'dconf-editor'
instead of 'gconf-editor', but it does not work either.

FYI, I'm using, Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS, but with AwsomeWM, and almost all
gnome packages installed

Cheers

GM

[Bug 1240336] Re: Not authorized to perform operation / Unable to determine the session we are in: No session for pid

2014-10-29 Thread M4he
Have had a similar issue.
When I tried to run loginctl I got Failed to issue method call: Cannot
launch daemon, file not found or permissions invalid and trying to execute
polkit-gnome-authentication-agent-1 resulted in Unable to determine the
session we are in: No session for pid

None of the solutions above helped for me.

What helped for me was to remove all i386 parts of PAM (which got installed
with Skype) similar to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+bug/1295521/comments/15
I then rebooted and got all functionality back. After reinstalling Skype and
the libs and rebooting everything is still working fine.

[Bug 1385639] Re: OpenJava

2014-10-29 Thread Thomas Ward
This doesn't appear to be a bug against the GTK package at all, but
rather an issue with OpenJava. As well, it does not appear to be valid
against OpenJava either. This is based on the following error lines:

Caused by: net.sourceforge.jnlp.LaunchException: Fatal: Application Error:
Cannot grant permissions to unsigned jars. Application requested security
permissions, but jars are not signed.
...
net.sourceforge.jnlp.LaunchException: Fatal: Application Error: Cannot grant
permissions to unsigned jars. Application requested security permissions, but
jars are not signed.

This seems to suggest that this issue is related to the fact the Java
application is unsigned, and the security settings for OpenJava appear to be
such that the software is requesting security permissions but is unsigned.
Therefore, I don't think this is a bug, but rather an issue of the security
settings you have set for Java runtime in OpenJava.

[Bug 1385639] Re: OpenJava fails to initialize java application

2014-10-29 Thread Thomas Ward
I've marked this as Invalid against GTK because it's not really a GTK
issue based on the error logs.

Having said this, there are two Open Java versions in precise, and no
details on which, so I have marked this as affecting the Open Java
packages that are actually in precise.

I do not know whether this is a bug or not, per my prior comment (see
comment number 2), and this needs further research and review before
deciding whether it is also Invalid against Open Java.

[Bug 1386803] Re: unity8 crashing a lot since image #126

2014-10-29 Thread kevin gunn
so the root cause of the media-hub issues is thot to be that notifications is a
client of media hub (so lots of create/destroy) which in turn leaves dead objs
on dbus which results in the mutex lock signature seen in comment #4.
There is a fix for this, branches linked.

[Bug 1387241] Re: systemctl is broken

2014-10-29 Thread Martin Pitt
You actually need to boot with systemd for systemctl to work. But NB
that in Ubuntu 14.10 this isn't officially supported yet, and many stuff
is still broken. But you can append init=/bin/systemd to the command
line to play with it; a normal desktop works very well.

2014-10-29 Thread Fran Diéguez
Public bug reported:

After a bad bootup and using systemd as the init system, it shows the
next error message

/lib/systemd/system/friendly-recovery.service Executable path is not
abolute, ignoring: dmesg --console-off

I have checked that file and changing the line

ExecStartPre=-dmesg --console-off

to

ExecStartPre=-/bin/dmesg --console-off

fixes the error.

[Bug 1387303] [NEW] regression: gnome-keyring components can't be disabled anymore

2014-10-29 Thread Pascal de Bruijn
Public bug reported:

GNOME Keyring is by default a rather invasive service, which meddles
with security sensitive processes invasively. This may or may not be
wise depending on a users situation.

One particular case is GNOME Keyring's gpg-agent implementation, which
is incomplete and therefore doesn't support GPG's OpenPGP smartcard
support. gpg simply fails (with smartcards) when GNOME Keyring is
impersonating gpg-agent...

So to be able to use OpenPGP smartcards on Ubuntu, one needs to disable
GNOME Keyring from impersonating gpg-agent, which for quite some time
now has been trivial to effectively do:

echo 'X-GNOME-Autostart-enabled=false' /etc/xdg/autostart/gnome-
keyring-gpg.desktop

With GNOME Keyring's recent update (3.10.1-1ubuntu4.1) in Trusty, this
seems to have been broken by the addition of:

/usr/share/upstart/sessions/gnome-keyring.conf

So it seems the /etc/xdg/autostart/gnome-keyring files are either being
ignored, or the started process is supplanted by the process started by
the upstart session config.

What is unclear to me is what the upstart session configuration is
supposed to achieve? And if it is meant to supplant the xdg/autostart
files, those should probably have been removed to prevent them from
causing any confusion as to how gnome-keyring is started/managed.

Presuming the upstart session is meant to stay, I would suggest to
remove the /etc/xdg/autostart/gnome-keyring-*.desktop files to prevent
confusion as mentioned above. And in my opinion a mechanism should be
provided so users can control which gnome-keyring components '--
components=pkcs11,secrets,ssh,gpg' are activated using some
configuration file in /etc, as files in /usr aren't meant to be user
edited.

[Bug 1387219] Re: Mouse pointer disappears and cursor stops blinking

2014-10-29 Thread Jan Corazza
After typing the text, selecting it, and copying it with Ctrl+C, I did
experience a similar issue.

The gedit cursor did disappear, but I think that's normal - it
disappears when you select text.

But when I copied the text, the mouse curor disappeared as well, which
was not expected. It also started flickering when I moved it. Do you
experience this movement-related flickering?

Also, do you experience these issues when long-pressing Alt on the
window? When I long-press Alt, the flickering starts as well. If I short
press it, the HUD is activated, and the flickering is not.

The flickering stops once gedit is unfocused.

I also documented the bug in this question:
http://askubuntu.com/questions/541226/mouse-cursor-dissapears-when-long-
pressing-alt-in-gedit.

Update: the flickering effect also happens when I press Ctrl, Shift, and
escape. Practically any button which does not change the state of the
document causes the effect it would seem.

Please confirm whether this corresponds to the bug you are experiencing
as well.

@Jan Corazza, you are right, if I long-press Alt, the same issue occurs.
However, I do not see a flickering in my gedit window, but that may be a
side-effect that is visible, or not visible, depending on the user's hardware
and monitor.

** Description changed:

  Open gedit.
  Notice the cursor is blinking.
Type a few lines of text.
  Highilight some of the text.
Press CTRLc to cut the text.

- Notice that the gedit cursor is no longer blinking.

I think this is a problem that extends beyond gedit...

The same issue appears in Calculator.
Lainch calculator.
Click in the text area.
Press and hold the alt key, or type and cust some numbers.
The the mouse pointer pinter is invisible while hovering over the text area.

It might have something to do with the text area gtk widget.

[Bug 1292041] Re: Lockscreen doesn't turn off the screen

2014-10-29 Thread Bob Wanamaker
I'm running both Unity and Cinnamon in 14.04 with lightdm. That way
unity-greeter takes over on logout from both.
To get display power off to work on my desktop I added (username) and root to
lightwm in the /etc/group file.

lightdm:x:111:(username),root

Then I added the executable script /usr/bin/dpms-start :

#!/bin/sh
#
/usr/bin/xset +dpms
exit

In the /usr/share/lightdm/lightdm.conf.d/ directory I added the
50-dpms.conf file :

[SeatDefaults]
display-setup-script=/usr/bin/dpms-start

A bash script may also work by changing the user to lightdm before
executing /usr/bin/dpms-start :

sudo xhost +SI:localuser:lightdm
sudo su lightdm -s /bin/bash HERE
/usr/bin/dpms-start
exit
HERE

You then don't have to modify the /etc/group file. Hope this works for
others still having trouble.

[Bug 1387303] Re: regression: gnome-keyring components can't be disabled anymore

2014-10-29 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
** Description changed:

- GNOME Keyring is by default a rather invasive service, which meddles
- with security sensitive processes invasively. This may or may not be
- wise depending on a users situation.
+ To disable user session gnome-keyring upstart job:
+
+ $ echo manual ~/.config/upstart/gnome-keyring.override
+
+ ==
+
+
+ GNOME Keyring is by default a rather invasive service, which meddles with
security sensitive processes invasively. This may or may not be wise depending
on a users situation.

And in my opinion a mechanism should be
provided so users can control which gnome-keyring components '--
  components=pkcs11,secrets,ssh,gpg' are activated using some
configuration file in /etc, as files in /usr aren't meant to be user
  edited.

[Bug 1387303] Re: regression: gnome-keyring components can't be disabled anymore

2014-10-29 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
xdg-autostart .desktop file is used in sessions that are not upstart
managed.

upstart user session jobs are used in upstart managed sessions, e.g.
unity.

to disable a job, echo manual into an override file (just like with
any other upstart jobs)

One can override upstart user session jobs, on per-user, per-session, or
system-wide.

e.g.
echo manual /etc/xdg/upstart/gnome-keyring.override
echo manual /etc/xdg/xdg-ubuntu/upstart/gnome-keyring.override
echo manual ~/.config/upstart/gnome-keyring.override

See man 5 init and the upstart cookbook.

The default agent for unity session is gnome-keyring, however that was
not the case in 14.04 until an update was released to resolve bug
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-keyring/+bug/1271591

If you wish to use any other agents, use manual override to disable
gnome-keyring job and provide your own upstart jobs for other agents,
similar to how the gnome-keyring job is defined.

[Bug 1387303] Re: regression: gnome-keyring components can't be disabled anymore

2014-10-29 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
We can't remove xdg files, as there are session types that are not
managed by upstart.

Hence to disable or override the options passed to gnome-keyring should
be done via job override for upstart managed sessions or the xdg
autostart file for non-upstart managed sessions.

There is no bridge/compatiblity to inherit xdg disabled flags, to also
disable upstart jobs.

[Bug 1323584] Re: Nautilus crashes when accessing already mounted samba share

2014-10-29 Thread yoyoma2
Microsoft servers drop idle connections after 15 minutes. This behavior
can be disabled by this command as administrator (details:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/297684).

net config server /autodisconnect:-1

Alternatively, adding the following script to the gnome startup
applications keeps the connections alive.

#!/bin/bash
while true
do
ls /run/user/`id -u`/gvfs/smb-share:* /dev/null
