[Bug 1756901] Re: GNOME Calendar crashes when I try to add my Google Calendar account

2018-03-19 Thread Alexandru Tenie
Nope, doesn't look familiar. I have an AMD RX560, so there still could
be some graphical errors that intervene, even if it's kernel version
4.15.

Filled one now: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=794508

Re: [Bug 1755800] Re: Greeter/lockscreen fails to authenicate in an endless loop

2018-03-19 Thread Martin D. Weinberg
Thanks.  That variety script was from an old version of variety, it
seems.  I removed that and checked that the current scripts  in
/usr/share/variety/scripts do not have that bug (looked like an
operation on a shell variable that may not exist).  I did notice a few
variety crashes, but they do not seem to coincide with screenlock failure.

I did have "clipboard indicator" and "media player indicator" enabled.
Disabled those.  Will see what happens.  I can uninstall variety if I
see more issues with that.

[Bug 1755800] Re: Greeter/lockscreen fails to authenicate in an endless loop

2018-03-19 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks. I can see two recurring issues that might be the cause:

1. Something called 'variety' is failing:

Mar 17 08:16:14 magpie variety.desktop[1860]:
/home/weinberg/.config/variety/scripts/set_wallpaper: line 121: [: ==:
unary operator expected

Try fixing your script, or try uninstalling 'variety'.

2. Multiple crashes in extensions:

/usr/share/gnome-shell/extensions/ubuntu-appindicat...@ubuntu.com/*
/usr/share/gnome-shell/extensions/ubuntu-d...@ubuntu.com/*

But also:

3. Please check that you don't have any gnome-shell extensions installed
other than the two default Ubuntu ones (mentioned above). Since they all
run in the same process, any buggy extension can break the entire shell.

[Bug 1756952] Re: Text invisible after concurrent ffmpeg invocations

2018-03-19 Thread Paul Miller
I guess we should close this, then?

"reset" works for me. Increasing the amount of concurrency (the "range"
values in the script) seems to increase the repro chance. I guess it's
some race condition in how ffmpeg cleans up after itself.

@Iain: Seems to work as expected. Actually I think it's a bit better
compared to my original more 'hackish' variant. While the window was a
bit too high with my original MP, the height is now quite ok.

We need a way to reproduce this locally, so that we can get a shell and
investigate what is going on. So far I tried locally with amd64 and i386

[Bug 1756952] Re: Text invisible after concurrent ffmpeg invocations

2018-03-19 Thread Egmont Koblinger
Also reproducible in xterm and various other terminal emulators, at
least sometimes (not always). So not a gnome-terminal issue.

This is a pretty common phenomenon if a utility doesn't properly restore
the terminal (stty?) settings. Blindly typing and executing "reset"
should fix it. Not sure what exactly is going on, and if there's
anything bash could do to clean up, zsh doesn't seem to suffer from this
problem.

That change only fixes the case of returning from search results
(confirmed fixed as above), but not the n+1 API requests for the initial
search + details of each result.

Note this is particularly noticeable on initial launch where I currently
see a total of 80 requests: 5 searches for different sections and the
details hits for each search result.

[Bug 1756952] [NEW] Text invisible after concurrent ffmpeg invocations

2018-03-19 Thread Paul Miller
Public bug reported:

Repro steps:

Run the attached script in gnome-terminal. (Requires Python and ffmpeg.)
After the script finishes, try typing in the same terminal. No text will
appear. (The repro is not 100% reliable, so you may have to try the
script multiple times.)

The script spawns a couple of concurrent ffmpeg processes. Their stdin
must be connected to the terminal for the bug to repro. I've tried other
programs in place of ffmpeg which also use stdin, but haven't found any
other repro.

Observed behavior:

Typed text doesn't appear after running the script. However, the
terminal still seems to receive commands. Ctrl+C still works, but
doesn't fix the problem. I have to restart gnome-terminal to fix it.

Expected behavior:

Text input should work normally after the script exits.

Versions:

Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS
gnome-terminal 3.26.0
Python 3.5.3
ffmpeg 3.4.1-1
x86_64

I also repro'd in gnome-terminal under Arch Linux. (But the Gnome bug
tracker said to file with Ubuntu first, so here we are.) I wasn't able
to repro when using xterm in place of gnome-terminal.

2018-03-19 Thread Jason Gerecke
linuxcub, my apologies for not replying sooner -- I don't think I got a
notification of your messages for some reason...

Its odd that installing/reinstalling portions of Ubuntu seem to fix the
issue. It looks like the Bionic beta only relased IOSs for Kubuntu,
Budgie, Kylin, MATE, and Xubuntu. I wonder if their GNOME flavor is
still in development and was updated to a broken version when you
installed. Force-installing the ubuntu-gnome-desktop and gnome-control-
center packages may have brought down a fixed version? Without an
official GNOME ISO for me to test, it'll be hard for me to replicate
your issue to see if its still present.

[Bug 1699216] Re: Encrypted home support

2018-03-19 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Jeremy, I apologize for the handling of this bug.

Ubuntu 18.04 no longer includes an encrypted home option in the
installer and ecryptfs-utils is being demoted to universe. See LP:
#1756840

Once ecryptfs-utils is in universe, packages in main (like
accountsservice and gnome-control-center) can't depend on it.

My understanding is that Canonical Security would eventually like to
offer ext4 based encryption for home directories, but that feature won't
be implemented in time for Ubuntu 18.04 LTS. I also understand that
Pop!_OS is switching to promoting full disk encryption in its 18.04
release.

Once again, I apologize that your patches weren't reviewed more promptly
and helpfully. I hope that we Ubuntu developers will do better next time
you propose patches. Feel free to discuss proposed desktop-related
patches with the Ubuntu Desktop team.

[Bug 1756877] [NEW] input latency on update

2018-03-19 Thread John Skottis
Public bug reported:

I am on an Dell xps 9530 laptop and I had recently cleaned installed
17.10. A few days back I decided to updated to 18.04 to check it out and
report some bugs. The most annoying bug so far is the insane amount of
input latency this update has brought with it to a degree that it makes
it impossible to be productive. The issue is observable when using
either the mouse or the keyboard. The mouse does not move immediately
but it needs a second or two to register and start moving and even then
at some point it freezes for half a second at some random point and then
moves again. Also if I have two applications side by side and I try an
move focus from one to the next at around the edges of each window the
mouse freezes for a second and then moves. The keyboard freezes if it
hasn't been used for a while and on the first keystroke will take a
second to register and for a bonus you get the first keystorke repeated
for around 15-30 times. So if you are trying to write "and" will become
"aaand" or pressing "ctrl + T" in the browser will open not
one but 20 tabs!

I am reporting it here cause I am not sure what is causing all this
latency (it could be libinput or something else entirely) but please try
and fix this as soon as possible!!

[Bug 1755800] Re: Greeter/lockscreen fails to authenicate in an endless loop

2018-03-19 Thread Martin D. Weinberg
Daniel,

I took a few days, but it did again fail with the same issue. I'm
attaching the log, collected shortly after the failure by switch to
console while running the Wayland session, as you requested. Had to
reboot afterwards, to be able to log on to the desktop.

Hope this helps you spot the issue.

[Bug 1756837] [NEW] Dock doesn't show badge count, if new notifications arrived when screen locked

2018-03-19 Thread Eugene Romanenko
Public bug reported:

Gnome Shell disables extensions on screen lock.
If, for example, new mail will arrived in Thunderbird during screen locked, no
badges will be shown on unlock.
Also, lock/unlock screen while badges displayed will clear them.

So, in current implementation, badges looks very unreliable to rely on
them, and looks more a mess than a feature.

Solution may be adding a user space daemon, which interact with
applications even when dock extension is disabled, and provide badges
information for dock.

[Bug 1756826] [NEW] hangs when locate search provider matches a lot of files

2018-03-19 Thread Iain Lane
Public bug reported:

I have a maildir for my mail. My computer's name is "nightingale", and
this name is in the filenames in the maildir. I have a lot of email!

When I search for "tilix" to start a terminal after logging in, Nautilus
goes crazy consuming CPU. This is because I have to type "ti" to type
"tilix" and "ti" is a substring of "nightingale". This is submitted as a
search string to the nautilus search provider and apparently isn't
cancelled when I close the entry - I checked the GError and it's NULL.

A similar thing happens with the ctrl-f search in nautilus itself.

We talked about this on IRC and I provided some traces and stuff.
Linking to the log to avoid having to fetch those out into files. :-)

[Bug 1756092] Re: Screen freeze for some time when unlocking

2018-03-19 Thread Daniel van Vugt
We're dealing with a lot of similar-sounding bugs so it would be
inappropriate to declare two separate machines as having the same bug
right now. Many different bugs have the same symptoms.

I suggest you open a new bug for your laptop. So are those attachments
from your laptop rather than the original machine this bug was about?

[Bug 1756092] Re: Screen freeze for some time when unlocking

2018-03-19 Thread Alberto Donato
Daniel,

I'll take a look at what that device is (I don't have access to that
computer today) but it's not a printer.

But as said, this behavior also happens on my laptop (also a fresh
bionic install). I've attached log from it right after the issue
occurred.

apport information

** Description changed:

When trying to unlock the machine, sometimes the screen freezes entirely
(including mouse and keyboard input) for a long time either right away or after
submitting the password.
The freeze lasts for 10-20s, and sometimes the display goes into suspend.

I've seen this behavior on both my computers, both fresh 18.04 installs.

[Bug 1756811] [NEW] gnome-shell uses too much memory

2018-03-19 Thread Robin Sheat
Public bug reported:

After running for a few weeks, gnome-shell is using more memory than is
reasonable:

PID USER PRI NI VIRT RES SHR S CPU% MEM% TIME+ Command
 1692 robin 20 0 4380M 956M 48792 S 0.7 6.0 12h59:46
/usr/bin/gnome-shell

as time goes on, it tends to slowly creep up. Unfortunately it is harder
to restart than something like Firefox. If you kill it, it doesn't
automatically come back.
