Re: [Bug 1755800] Re: Greeter/lockscreen fails to authenicate in an endless loop
Thanks. That variety script was from an old version of variety, it seems. I removed that and checked that the current scripts in /usr/share/variety/scripts do not have that bug (looked like an operation on a shell variable that may not exist). I did notice a few variety crashes, but they do not seem to coincide with screenlock failure. I did have "clipboard indicator" and "media player indicator" enabled. Disabled those. Will see what happens. I can uninstall variety if I see more issues with that. On 03/19/2018 10:07 PM, Daniel van Vugt wrote: > Thanks. I can see two recurring issues that might be the cause: > > 1. [Bug 1756952] Re: Text invisible after concurrent ffmpeg invocations
Also reproducible in xterm and various other terminal emulators, at least sometimes (not always). So not a gnome-terminal issue. This is a pretty common phenomenon if a utility doesn't properly restore the terminal (stty?) settings. Blindly typing and executing "reset" should fix it. Not sure what exactly is going on, and if there's anything bash could do to clean up, zsh doesn't seem to suffer from this problem. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-terminal in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1756952 Title: Text invisible after concurrent ffmpeg invocations To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-terminal/+bug/1756952/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1756952] [NEW] Text invisible after concurrent ffmpeg invocations
Public bug reported: Repro steps: Run the attached script in gnome-terminal. (Requires Python and ffmpeg.) After the script finishes, try typing in the same terminal. No text will appear. (The repro is not 100% reliable, so you may have to try the script multiple times.) The script spawns a couple of concurrent ffmpeg processes. Their stdin must be connected to the terminal for the bug to repro. I've tried other programs in place of ffmpeg which also use stdin, but haven't found any other repro. Observed behavior: Typed text doesn't appear after running the script. However, the terminal still seems to receive commands. Ctrl+C still works, but doesn't fix the problem. I have to restart gnome-terminal to fix it. Expected behavior: Text input should work normally after the script exits. Versions: Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS gnome-terminal 3.26.0 Python 3.5.3 ffmpeg 3.4.1-1 x86_64 I also repro'd in gnome-terminal under Arch Linux. (But the Gnome bug tracker said to file with Ubuntu first, so here we are.) linuxcub, my apologies for not replying sooner -- I don't think I got a notification of your messages for some reason... Its odd that installing/reinstalling portions of Ubuntu seem to fix the issue. [Bug 1699216] Re: Encrypted home support
Jeremy, I apologize for the handling of this bug. Ubuntu 18.04 no longer includes an encrypted home option in the installer and ecryptfs-utils is being demoted to universe. See LP: #1756840 Once ecryptfs-utils is in universe, packages in main (like accountsservice and gnome-control-center) can't depend on it. My understanding is that Canonical Security would eventually like to offer ext4 based encryption for home directories, but that feature won't be implemented in time for Ubuntu 18.04 LTS. I also understand that Pop!_OS is switching to promoting full disk encryption in its 18.04 release. Once again, I apologize that your patches weren't reviewed more promptly and helpfully. I hope that we Ubuntu developers will do better next time you propose patches. [Bug 1756877] [NEW] input latency on update
Public bug reported: I am on an Dell xps 9530 laptop and I had recently cleaned installed 17.10. A few days back I decided to updated to 18.04 to check it out and report some bugs. The most annoying bug so far is the insane amount of input latency this update has brought with it to a degree that it makes it impossible to be productive. The issue is observable when using either the mouse or the keyboard. The mouse does not move immediately but it needs a second or two to register and start moving and even then at some point it freezes for half a second at some random point and then moves again. Also if I have two applications side by side and I try an move focus from one to the next at around the edges of each window the mouse freezes for a second and then moves. The keyboard freezes if it hasn't been used for a while and on the first keystroke will take a second to register and for a bonus you get the first keystorke repeated for around 15-30 times. So if you are trying to write "and" will become "aaand" or pressing "ctrl + T" in the browser will open not one but 20 tabs! I am reporting it here cause I am not sure what is causing all this latency (it could be libinput or something else entirely) but please try and fix this as soon as possible!! [Bug 1756837] [NEW] Dock doesn't show badge count, if new notifications arrived when screen locked
Public bug reported: Gnome Shell disables extensions on screen lock. If, for example, new mail will arrived in Thunderbird during screen locked, no badges will be shown on unlock. Also, lock/unlock screen while badges displayed will clear them. So, in current implementation, badges looks very unreliable to rely on them, and looks more a mess than a feature. Solution may be adding a user space daemon, which interact with applications even when dock extension is disabled, and provide badges information for dock. [Bug 1756826] [NEW] hangs when locate search provider matches a lot of files
Public bug reported: I have a maildir for my mail. My computer's name is "nightingale", and this name is in the filenames in the maildir. I have a lot of email! When I search for "tilix" to start a terminal after logging in, Nautilus goes crazy consuming CPU. This is because I have to type "ti" to type "tilix" and "ti" is a substring of "nightingale". This is submitted as a search string to the nautilus search provider and apparently isn't cancelled when I close the entry - I checked the GError and it's NULL. A similar thing happens with the ctrl-f search in nautilus itself. We talked about this on IRC and I provided some traces and stuff. [Bug 1756811] [NEW] gnome-shell uses too much memory
Public bug reported: After running for a few weeks, gnome-shell is using more memory than is reasonable: PID USER PRI NI VIRT RES SHR S CPU% MEM% TIME+ Command 1692 robin 20 0 4380M 956M 48792 S 0.7 6.0 12h59:46 /usr/bin/gnome-shell as time goes on, it tends to slowly creep up. Unfortunately it is harder to restart than something like Firefox. If you kill it, it doesn't automatically come back.
