2018-12-05 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Can you please try removing your extensions?

b'org.gnome.shell' b'enabled-extensions' b"['refresh-w...@kgshank.net',

'gnom...@panacier.gmail.com', 'panel-...@berend.de.schouwer.gmail.com',
'scroll-workspa...@gfxmonk.net']"

We find extensions cause a lot of bugs so it's a good first step to
exclude the possibility that they are a factor.

[Bug 1758544] [NEW] On unsuspend, a black screen delays login screen

2018-12-05 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Every time I suspend the notebook (close lid, not sure about suspension
by command) when I unsuspend (open lid) a long time black screen with
only mouse pointer visible delays the login screen to display (about
10~15 seconds of delaying). The mouse pointer works but with brief
freezings when moving, something like 0,5s of freezing for each 1,5s
moving.

This notebook is a i7 16GB ram 120GB SSD so it should never happen, in
fact, it never happened in Deepin Linux or even Ubuntu 16.04.

I will be available to provide some other information you need.
Thanks.

This did happen before (with 18.04) and may be completely unrelated -
it's just the normal consequence of running a graphics-intensive
application. But it also may be the actual trigger... So the problem may
be somewhere between Gnome, kernel and nvidia-driver...

[Bug 1807096] [NEW] gnome-shell uses 100% cpu, triggered by games while using nvidia-driver

2018-12-05 Thread Michal Kukuča
Public bug reported:

There's not much I can provide in terms of hard data, but maybe someone
can help with getting to the bottom of this. After installing Ubuntu
18.10, I'm unable to use graphics-intensive games.

My setup:
ASUS F556U, with Intel® Core™ i7-7500U CPU @ 2.70GHz × 4, Intel® HD Graphics
620 (Kaby Lake GT2) + NVIDIA GeForce 940MX.

While the Nvidia card is being used (Performance mode set in nvidia-
settings) and I run a 3d game with Steam (happens e.g. with Black Mesa,
Euro Truck Simulator 2...), everything works as expected, but after a
relatively short amount of time gnome-shell starts eating up more and
more CPU for some reason, effectively taking over the actual game. The
game starts to stutter first, then slowly grinds to a completely
unresponsive state. If I manage to quit the game, gnome-shell still does
its thing. I'm sometimes even unable to enter the overview mode in
Gnome. The only solution is to reboot.

This does happen with nvidia-driver-390 from the standard repo, but also
with nvidia-driver-410 from the graphics PPA. This was not the issue
with Ubuntu 18.04. It also does not happen with nouveau, or with the
Intel drivers (power saving mode in nvidia-settings). There's also
nothing of note in the syslog.

Happened to have a machine install disco, test passed:

press key once will move to the next mode, instead of the first mode.

OSD still moves fast (or won't stay on the screen for seconds). That's
not a good user experience

Per what I know, Hugh takes today off. Will sync with him tomorrow.

[Bug 1807076] [NEW] gnome-control-center doesn't start

2018-12-05 Thread Tomasz Majchrzak
Public bug reported:

gnome-control-center doesn't start. There is no crash, core dump, etc.

This bit in syslog (/var/log/syslog) gives us some information:

Actually something similar has been seen already in the past but it
hasn't been resolved:

[Bug 1806448] Re: Dragging a window to the edge of the screen does not tile/semi-maximize it (for some apps)

2018-12-05 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Interesting. I think Windows 10 has the same kind of limitation. Some
windows occupy more than half the screen when semi-maximized, so adding
a second window after that only gets less than half. Maybe that would be
a better design for gnome-shell than just plain refusing.

Actually, here's a better output of `journalctl -f`:

Dec 05 23:02:51 is pressing Super+L the first time.
Dec 05 23:02:56 is pressing Super+L the second time.
Dec 05 23:03:01 is logging back in (pressing space and typing after the screen

2018-12-05 Thread Sebastien Bacher
usually if the half-screen fails it's because the minimal width of the
window you try to edge is higher than half of the horizontal screen
space. What resolution are you using? Some of those applications can't
be shrinked too much, e.G calendar and nautilus are know issue, see bug
#1806279 for example

2018-12-05 Thread Paul White
As the reporter of the duplicate bug 1799787, I thought that I would see
if I could reproduce this problem with the latest disco daily
(20181205). Unfortunately I can by taking the following steps:

1. Boot to live session
2. Make external monitor the primary display and the laptop's internal monitor
the secondary display
3. Install GNOME Tweaks
4. Enable 4 static workspaces
5. Enable workspaces span displays
6. Move to workspace 4
7. Open Firefox
8. Restart GNOME Shell with Alt F2 and enter

Both displays went blank and I was returned to the log in screen just as
per my original report.

[Bug 1806983] [NEW] desktop environment resumes badly when resuming from suspend mode

2018-12-05 Thread Marco
Public bug reported:

I've a problem when resuming from suspend mode and try to unlock my pc.

Expected Behavior:

Interface shows correctly after resuming from suspend mode.

Real Behavior:

Interface shows badly after resume PC from suspend.
unlock interface doesn't shows at all; instead of it, desktop (or last
application) is shown.

Have to re-suspend PC and re-resume, so the unlock interface is showed
but application's bar shows like pc is still locked, so it doesn't show
real opened applications.

"resize and move windows" shortcuts doesn't work either.

How to reproduce bug:

Go to suspend mode, resume. mostly the bug doesn't appear, but sometimes
yes.

[Bug 1772811] Re: different behaviors for switch display mode between xenial and bionic

2018-12-05 Thread Sebastien Bacher
looking a bit more, indeed the gnome-shell behaviour changed as
described in https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-
shell/merge_requests/208/

They changed it to have to maintain the modifier and cycle through the
configs by pressing the letter then, which doesn't work when you have a
key 'faking the event' (which is what the upstream bug is about).

To support that usecase again they changed back in 3.30, which means it
should work in 18.10. Could you try there if the issue is indeed
resolved for you? If so we should backport
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/commit/fcdac69e to bionic

[Bug 1802610] Re: FIle View Windows Don't Snap To Screen Sides On Second Monitor

2018-12-05 Thread jimlovell777
I use Gnome and have observed the issue on Ubuntu 18.04 and 18.10
(possibly affected earlier versions too but don't remember 100%). My
monitors are side by side with my secondary monitor to the right of my
primary. I have an ASUS nVidia GTX 760. The primary display uses HDMI
and the secondary display uses VGA from the DVI-I port.

make it fit on screen and such refuse the action. Unsure if there is an
easy solution there

2018-12-05 Thread Iain Lane
I'm uploading to all supported releases, to be safe and to satisfy the
SRU process (trying to minimise the possibility of regressing the bug).

For cosmic, suggest running through the testcase and making sure it
still works.

At the time of writing, there's currently a gnome-shell verified for
release in cosmic-proposed; please don't clobber that if it's still
there when this upload is reviewed.

[Bug 1800352] Re: screen lock leaves desktop and current applications displayed unless activated twice

2018-12-05 Thread Charles Tyrwhitt
I do have the same bug and ran apport-collect 1800352 on my system. It
also happens if I use the dropdown menu at the right of the top bar to
lock the screen.

Workaround:
I can send my use the "pause"-symbol to start hibernation/suspension (I'm not
sure which) and after waking up the OS again I'm able to log in again.

I added a couple pictures.

Greetings,

Charles

[Bug 1765304] Re: Ubuntu 18.04's ibus package breaks password fields in Firefox (by lowering & raising window whenever they're focused)

2018-12-05 Thread Daniel van Vugt
The fix would have to be released into 19.04 first at least, and maybe
18.10 too, before backporting to 18.04.

[Bug 1765304] Re: Ubuntu 18.04's ibus package breaks password fields in Firefox (by lowering & raising window whenever they're focused)

2018-12-05 Thread Ondrej Mihalyi
Ubuntu, please backport the fix from gnome-shell to Bionic, it will help
many users.

Meanwhile, I switched to Wayland which doesn't show the issue and
plugins in Firefox work without problems.
