[Bug 1758544] [NEW] On unsuspend, a black screen delays login screen
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Every time I suspend the notebook (close lid, not sure about suspension by command) when I unsuspend (open lid) a long time black screen with only mouse pointer visible delays the login screen to display (about 10~15 seconds of delaying). The mouse pointer works but with brief freezings when moving, something like 0,5s of freezing for each 1,5s moving. This notebook is a i7 16GB ram 120GB SSD so it should never happen, in fact, it never happened in Deepin Linux or even Ubuntu 16.04. I will be available to provide some other information you need. [Bug 1807096] [NEW] gnome-shell uses 100% cpu, triggered by games while using nvidia-driver
Public bug reported: There's not much I can provide in terms of hard data, but maybe someone can help with getting to the bottom of this. After installing Ubuntu 18.10, I'm unable to use graphics-intensive games. My setup: ASUS F556U, with Intel® Core™ i7-7500U CPU @ 2.70GHz × 4, Intel® HD Graphics 620 (Kaby Lake GT2) + NVIDIA GeForce 940MX. While the Nvidia card is being used (Performance mode set in nvidia- settings) and I run a 3d game with Steam (happens e.g. with Black Mesa, Euro Truck Simulator 2...), everything works as expected, but after a relatively short amount of time gnome-shell starts eating up more and more CPU for some reason, effectively taking over the actual game. The game starts to stutter first, then slowly grinds to a completely unresponsive state. If I manage to quit the game, gnome-shell still does its thing. I'm sometimes even unable to enter the overview mode in Gnome. The only solution is to reboot. This does happen with nvidia-driver-390 from the standard repo, but also with nvidia-driver-410 from the graphics PPA. This was not the issue with Ubuntu 18.04. It also does not happen with nouveau, or with the Intel drivers (power saving mode in nvidia-settings). There's also nothing of note in the syslog. [Bug 1772811] Re: different behaviors for switch display mode between xenial and bionic
looking a bit more, indeed the gnome-shell behaviour changed as described in https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome- shell/merge_requests/208/ They changed it to have to maintain the modifier and cycle through the configs by pressing the letter then, which doesn't work when you have a key 'faking the event' (which is what the upstream bug is about). To support that usecase again they changed back in 3.30, which means it should work in 18.10. Could you try there if the issue is indeed resolved for you?
