I had to install 'pavucontrol' and it exhibited the same behaviour, as
does the 'top panel control' (if I understand that correctly). I
couldn't find 'keus' though.

[Bug 1866722] [NEW] Packaging type should appear in app's name

2020-03-09 Thread Coeur Noir
Public bug reported:

Hi,

for years now, Ubuntu Software show snap in priority.
Hence for a given app' it appears many times in the list.

Packaging type should be part of the app' name in the list
to help users know where they're going.

Thunderbird [ deb ]
Thunderbird [ snap ]
( and why not ? )
Thunderbird [ flatpak ]
Thunderbird [ appimage ]

Another way to deal with this would be
⋅ to have only one entry by app'name
⋅ and have some clear labels for available packaging type

Thunderbird

app' description

Available as :

[ deb | snap | flatpak | appimage | from source | whatever ]

here tabbed suggestions and info matching selected
packaging type just above and eventually options like
sandboxing, connect or plug interfaces, authorizations
when relevant.

[ install button ]

Nowadays users may not be conscious of « how » they install
an app, leading to bitter surprises ( slowness, no access
to removable medias, used disk space ) because all users
don't have SSD nor thousands Gb free disk space.

All LTS Ubuntu are concerned by this bug : Software-center
should show benefits, use-case, requirements and limits for
each available packaging type, it should be more « teaching »
instead of confusing.

[Bug 1865871] Re: appearance setting view shows thick border

2020-03-09 Thread Robert Ancell
This is because the setting tab has keyboard focus - it's the same for
all the tabs. If you change focus, e.g. on appearance select the the
"Position on Screen" combo box then the border goes away.

Is this just the way it is rendered in GTK/the theme?

[Bug 1804568] Re: [HP Spectre x360 Convertible 13] click position is flipped to cursor position when in tent mode

2020-03-09 Thread Imre Péntek
I figured out a workaround:

# apt remove iio-sensor-proxy --purge

then reboot, from that point your screen is always upside down, you need
to issue

$ xrandr --output eDP-1 --rotate inverted

after every login. Now the mouse points to the same location it clicks.
Hooray!

[Bug 1866416] Re: Ubuntu 18.04 system freezes when attempting to switch user

2020-03-09 Thread Anders Olav Garlid
I've come to a pseudo-resolution by disabling Wayland usage in gdm3.

 - Edit /etc/gdm3/custom.conf and simply uncomment:
#WaylandEnable=false

 - restart everything and Switch Users works fine.

I included this comment as "NOTE 3" in the bug report.

** Description changed:

  Ubuntu 18.04 freezes and must be manually powered down and rebooted when
  attempting to "Switch User".

  Prerequisites:
  - Use Ubuntu 18.04
  - You need at least 2 users (e.g. user1 and user2)

  Expected behavior:
  - While logged in as any user, choose "Switch User" from top power drop down.
  - Click "Log in as another user"
- - Enter another user's credentials and login
+ - Enter another user's credentials and login

  Bug behavior and steps to reproduce:
  - Start your computer
  - At the graphical login prompt, log in with user1: user1 is able to log in,
its desktop is shown
  - While logged into the desktop of user1, choose "Switch user"
  - Returns to login screen, with prompt to enter user1 password
  - Click "Log in as another user"
  - RESULT: the screen freezes with no ability to type or move the mouse. It is
never possible to login in as either user1 or user2 and the system must be
manually powered down and restarted.

  NOTE 1: the same happens when user2 was the first to log in after a
  reboot of the system. "Switch User" ends up with the same freeze issue.

  NOTE 2: I've been getting crash reports at login that say "System
  program problem detected / Do you want to report the problem now?". I am
  unsure whether or not this is related, but the cat _usr_lib_gnome-
  session_gnome-session-check-accelerated.121.crash file in /var/crash

Re: [Bug 1866625] Re: OverflowError: With Python 3 Gtk.ListStore only accepts 32 Bit Integers.

2020-03-09 Thread Wolf Pichler
I'm not sure what exactly they are really talking about at
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/pygobject/issues/198.

My FR concerns 3.26.1-2ubuntu1 and at gitlab it is stated "I think it
used to work in 3.26." which

clearly is not the case.

I took a look into the source and in pygi-value.c I found this:

case G_TYPE_INT:
    {
    glong val = PYGLIB_PyLong_AsLong(obj);
    if (val == -1 && PyErr_Occurred ())
    return -1;
    if (val > G_MAXINT || val < G_MININT) {
    PyErr_SetString(PyExc_OverflowError, "out of range for int
property");
    return -1;
    }
    g_value_set_int(value, (gint)val);
    break;
    }

and a lot of comments like this:

#if PY_VERSION_HEX < 0x0300

[snip]

#endif

To me this means that somebody is/was aware of the fact that some more
work has to be done for

making this stuff compatible to Python 3.

uninstalled the gnome-control-center package somehow.

Cold you include a 'journalctl -b 0' log of a session which triggered the issue?

[Bug 1866630] Re: Settings butten in upper right hand corner missing

2020-03-09 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Thanks for your report.

You filed it against "ubuntu-docs", which is a documentation package and
probably unrelated to your problem. Changing the affected package.

Also, we need more info to be able to evaluate your report, such as
which Ubuntu version and desktop environment are you using. An easy way
to add that kind of info is by running this terminal command:

[Bug 1866246] Re: gnome-control-center crashed with SIGSEGV in gtk_flow_box_select_child()

2020-03-09 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 1866618] [NEW] Do not show appearance tab in vanilla gnome-control center

2020-03-09 Thread Esokrates
Public bug reported:

I am not using the ubuntu modifications of gnome-shell and therefore the
Appearance tab in the gnome-control center is essentially useless, and
what's worse choosing an option in the window colors selection simply
crashes control center.

Therefore it would be appreciated to only show the appearance tab when using
the ubuntu-session.
If this is not possible please create a separate package
gnome-control-center-ubuntu since I want to be able to use gnome-shell as
intended by upstream without the ubuntu modifications being forced on me.
