[Bug 1865170] Re: lid close simply turns off laptop screen

2020-03-17 Thread Colton Donnelly
Sorry for the delay, I've been rather busy. I was finally able to try a
newer build of the latest mainline tonight, so I just tried it.

I tried using v5.6-rc4 but that failed to install, and it seems like
v5.6-rc6 isn't building properly, so I went with v5.6-rc5.

The issue actually seems worse. In the dmesg output attached, you can see that
the desync is much more spread out.
~47s close laptop lid
~57s open laptop lid
~60s password entered (GNOME did lock)
~70s laptop goes to sleep
~84s I wake laptop using power button

I'm having a few additional issues with my laptop that weren't quite
happening out of the box, so I'm going to go ahead and do a full
reinstall of my system -- I suspect I may have gone digging deep into
some system configurations in my sleep.

I'll do a full system backup before the reinstall, though, so that I can
do further bug hunting, when I'm available?field.comment=Sorry for the

[Bug 1867758] Re: Gnome shell froze completely

2020-03-17 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Please:

1. Check for any files in /var/crash/ and if found then follow these
instructions:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Responses#Missing_a_crash_report_or_having_a_.crash_attachment

2. Uninstall all of these extensions:

   'workr...@workrave.org', 'user-theme@gnome-shell-
extensions.gcampax.github.com', 'openweather-extens...@jenslody.de',
'update-extensi...@franglais125.gmail.com',
'powerindica...@germain.louis.80.gmail.com', 'apps-menu@gnome-shell-

'vit...@corecoding.com', 'appindicatorsupp...@rgcjonas.gmail.com',
'zorin-appindica...@zorinos.com',
'easyscreenc...@iacopodeenosee.gmail.com'

We need to try uninstalling extensions because they are the cause of
bugs so frequently. And they need to be uninstalled and not just
disabled because a disabled extension can still interfere with the
shell.

[Bug 1867668] Re: Visual artifacts in Gnome Shell after upgrading to 20.04

2020-03-17 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks. I can see a couple of problems with the machine now, which could
cause this bug:

1. You have the old 'intel' graphics driver enabled. That's no longer
being maintained and should not be used, especially on newer hardware
like yours. Please ensure your Xorg config files do not load the 'intel'
driver and if in doubt just uninstall it:

  sudo apt remove xserver-xorg-video-intel

You should be using the newer 'modesetting' driver which is also the
default.

2. You have a number of extensions installed:

b'org.gnome.shell' b'enabled-extensions'
b"['donotdist...@kylecorry31.github.io', 'docker-
integrat...@jan.trejbal.gmail.com', 'gsconn...@andyholmes.github.io',
'multi-monitors-add-on@spin83', 'custom-hot-corn...@janrunx.gmail.com',
'autohide-batt...@sitnik.ru', 'clipboard-indica...@tudmotu.com',
'openweather-extens...@jenslody.de', 'places-menu@gnome-shell-
extensions.gcampax.github.com', 'sound-output-device-
choo...@kgshank.net']"

so if removing the intel graphics driver hasn't already fixed the bug
then please try to uninstall all of those extensions. Yes uninstall and
not just disable, because a disabled extension can still interfere with
the shell.

[Bug 1712520] Re: [17.04][gnome] screen hanged after meld launched via terminal was put to sleep by C-z: gtk_widget_get_scale_factor: assertion 'GTK_IS_WIDGET (widget)' failed

2020-03-17 Thread aPlatypus
I am getting this message very very frequently.

   Ubuntu 19.10

from the command line. The most intersting thing is that I may have 5
or 6 bash windows open. Aftetr executiong Meld from one terminal
window. If I subsequently use meld from a Different teminal session,
these errors spray-out on that first terminal's window:

 :
   2020-03-18 11:52:47,201 CRITICAL Gtk: gtk_widget_get_scale_factor: assertion
'GTK_IS_WIDGET (widget)' failed
   2020-03-18 11:52:47,201 CRITICAL Gtk: gtk_widget_get_scale_factor: assertion

   2020-03-18 11:52:47,201 CRITICAL Gtk: gtk_widget_get_scale_factor: assertion

   2020-03-18 11:52:47,201 CRITICAL Gtk: gtk_widget_get_scale_factor: assertion
'GTK_IS_WIDGET (widget)' failed

I execute meld with the following command

   nohup meld "${@}" > /dev/null 2>&1 &

Which sends output to dev/null. I am very surprised to see these
messages coming on any screen since the output is sent to null.

It looks to me like there's some kind of service involved not the
actuall meld background process

I suspect it did autorefresh, but didn't confirm. But yeah, the issue
IMO is the UI one. Once I click update, I'd expect gnome-software to see
that it was already up to date and respond as though the update was
complete - i.e., go away :)

snap changes should give you an hint about that

least refresh the list when changes are applied)

Here is the requested log.

- When coming back from a suspend on eoan, the tabs and gnome-terminal

Happens with every suspend/resume cycle. I'll attach the logs after I

[Bug 1850932] Re: [SRU] Backport 2.62.4-1

2020-03-17 Thread Iain Lane
I ran glib2.0/eoan/i386 myself locally, and it passed:

autopkgtest [14:37:57]: summary
buildPASS (superficial)
build-static PASS (superficial)
installed-tests PASS
flakyPASS
qemu-system-x86_64: terminating on signal 15 from pid 2692138 (/usr/bin/python3)

I'm not sure what happens on the production infrastructure, but given
that this works in focal and that eoan is "only" an interim release, I'd
say this SRU could probably be released ...

[Bug 1867766] Re: Namespace prefix sodipodi on namedview is not defined

2020-03-17 Thread Olivier Tilloy
I bet this is caused by this upstream change in librsvg:

- Librsvg's XML parser now supports namespaces (xmlns), and is
stricter than before about it. Files may fail to parse if there are
attributes or elements with namespace prefixes (e.g. foo:bar instead
of plain bar), but without a corresponding namespace declaration
  (e.g. xmlns:foo="http://example.com/foo;).

This may happen especially with incorrectly-written SVGs that use
xlink:href or xi:include attributes without the corresponding
namespace declarations. If you run into this, just add the
following to your toplevel SVG element:

  http://www.w3.org/2000/svg;
   xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink;
   xmlns:xi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XInclude;>
   ^ these ones

The nm-signal-*.svg icons in /usr/share/icons/ubuntu-mono-light/status/22 use
sodipodi: prefixed attributes (exported by inkscape) without the corresponding
namespace declaration (http://sodipodi.sourceforge.net/DTD/sodipodi-0.dtd).

[Bug 1867757] [NEW] Please pull Mutter cursor fixes for DisplayLink devices

2020-03-17 Thread Ppaalanen
Public bug reported:

For GNOME/Wayland to use hardware cursors on DisplayLink devices
(proprietary userspace driver for USB 3 devices), the following Mutter
fixes should be included:

Mutter 3.34 branch (tentatively 3.34.5):
- https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/merge_requests/1116 Initialize cursor
support on GPU hotplug (backport to 3.34)

Mutter 3.36 (currently master) branch (tentatively 3.36.1):
- https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/merge_requests/1079 Handle lack of
explicit cursor planes better
- https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/merge_requests/1097 Initialize cursor
support on GPU hotplug

Without "Initialize cursor support on GPU hotplug" performance on
hotplugged DisplayLink devices that create a new DRM device node
suffers, because Mutter uses a software cursor which implies that
DisplayLink needs to update the whole screen on every cursor motion.

Without "Handle lack of explicit cursor planes better" there will not be
a cursor at all on DisplayLink devices in Mutter 3.36.

I would assume that the 3.34 branch is relevant to Ubuntu 19.10 and the
3.36 branch is relevant to Ubuntu 20.04.

[Bug 1477930] Re: package gnome-applets-data (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: trying to overwrite '/usr/share/locale/mn/LC_MESSAGES', which is also in package language-selector-common 0.129.

2020-03-17 Thread Dmitry Shachnev
/usr/share/locale/mn/LC_MESSAGES should be a directory, not a file.
Something was broken on your system, assuming that is no longer actual.

[Bug 1867735] [NEW] Can't login after computer locks on idle

2020-03-17 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

After a leave my computer on idle and try to put my password to login the
screen starts to blink whenever I click on the screen. The workaround I found

Also when the screen is locked I'm able to see the windows running on the user
profile without unlocking

[Bug 1867668] Re: Visual artifacts in Gnome Shell after upgrading to 20.04

2020-03-17 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks. Unfortunately that did not attach the information we require. :(

Please run:

  dmesg > dmesg.txt
  lspci -k > lspcik.txt
  journalctl -b0 > journal.txt

and then attach the resulting three files.
