[Bug 1973802] Re: Gnome Shell crashes when disconnecting external monitor

2022-05-18 Thread Ralf Sternberg
Right. Now I call `apport-cli` with the crash file as parameter. As soon
as I press "S", the program terminates immediately. No browser window is
being opened.

$ apport-cli _usr_bin_gnome-shell.1000.crash

[Bug 1974054] Re: Without a reason gnome-shell CPU usage gets high

2022-05-18 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks for the bug report. Please:

1. Open the Extensions app and ensure only the three Ubuntu extensions
are enabled. No others.

2. Remove any locally-installed extensions:

   cd ~/.local/share/gnome-shell/
   rm -rf extensions

   and log in again.

3. Check to see if you have anything constantly changing on the screen.
Make sure you don't have any performance indicators/graphs running, or
web browsers open, when the problem occurs.

[Bug 1973802] Re: Gnome Shell crashes when disconnecting external monitor

2022-05-18 Thread Ralf Sternberg
So `ubuntu-bug ` fails and an error UI pops up, asking to
send an error report (which I did). After that, `apport-cli` tells me
that there are no pending crash reports.

Strangely, there are no recent items on
https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/, only some that are
several days, some several months old.

Trying to attach the crash log here failed again. I've opened
https://bugs.launchpad.net/launchpad/+bug/1974066 for that.

Seems I'm running out of options, sorry.

Assignee: (unassigned) => Ted Gould (ted)

** Changed in: xdg-desktop-portal-gtk (Ubuntu Focal)
Assignee: (unassigned) => Ted Gould (ted)

** Description changed:

- The file dialog implementation doesn't return the current filter. It is
- in the spec and it is fixed in newer versions of the portals. But the
- 1.6.0 version doesn't return it.
+ * Impact
+ The file dialog implementation doesn't return the current filter. It is in
the spec and it is fixed in newer versions of the portals. But the 1.6.0
version doesn't return it.

This is an issue for Inkscape which uses the filter to select which file
format someone wishes to save as if they override the defaults. This
  works well on Ubuntu 22.04.
+
+ * Test case
+
+ $ snap install --candidate inkscape.
+
+ In Inkscape if you just draw on the canvas and hit save a save dialog
+ will appear. There is a selector at the bottom right that adjust which
+ files you see, but also which format you want to save in. So if you make
+ your file "test.pdf" and select "Portable Document Format (*.pdf)" in
+ the selector you should get a PDF file. Before these patches you will
+ get a file "test.pdf" which is actually an SVG file. After the patches
+ you'll get a "test.pdf" that is actually a PDF.
+
+ * Regression potential
+
+ That's a change to the fileselector portal so check that opening and
+ saving files in a few snaps and flatpaks still works as intended

[Bug 1971415] Re: Remote desktop is automatically enabled after login

2022-05-18 Thread Marc Deslauriers
This patch is still broken. The same thing happens with VNC:

1- Turn on remote desktop, turn on VNC.
2- Only turn off remote desktop while leaving VNC checked
3- Reboot
4- The VNC port is listening to connections even though remote desktop says off
in the control center.

[Bug 1973802] Re: Gnome Shell crashes when disconnecting external monitor

2022-05-18 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Try 'apport-cli' if 'ubuntu-bug' fails.

After the upload attempt also look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID
where ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the
machine. Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so
then please send the links to us.

[Bug 1973802] Re: Gnome Shell crashes when disconnecting external monitor

2022-05-18 Thread Ralf Sternberg
Thanks. I've found the corresponding crash log and tried to attach it
here, but the upload fails (always end up on a site saying "Uh oh :(".
Might be the file size (76M), even a gzipped version (55M) did not
succeed.

Using `ubuntu_bug` as recommended in
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Responses#Missing_a_crash_report_or_having_a_.crash_attachment
did not seem to do anything (perhaps running into that same problem).

Any ideas?

note: I apt installed gstreamer1.0-plugins-bad after trying the button,
but before doing ubuntu-bug, hence it showing up in the
