[Bug 2022997] [NEW] Nautilus does not update view properly when deleting or moving files unless refreshed

2023-06-05 Thread John D
Public bug reported:

This issue happens in Nautilus 44.0, both on Wayland and X11, and has also been
noted in upstream Gnome as well:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/nautilus/-/issues/2945

When deleting files, only the file being deleted should be shown as deleted,
and when moving files/folders, the file/folder should appear as-is in the
destination directory.

However, this is not the case here. When deleting, the file/folder gets deleted
correctly in the filesystem, but Nautilus does not update the view properly.
The file being deleted still remains, instead showing another file to be
deleted and when undoing delete operation via [Ctrl-Z], it shows a duplicate of
the deleted file/folder.
This issue persists until you refresh the view [F5], when the view shows up
correctly.

Also, when moving files/folders to another directory, the file/folder
initially shows up as a blank 'text' file named '', until you refresh
the view, when it shows up correctly.

It is worth noting that this issue has apparently been fixed in Fedora
and Arch for a while (see gitlab bug report linked above). Please
implement the same fixes here in Ubuntu as well.

[Bug 2022977] [NEW] unable to install ntp support

2023-06-05 Thread Cliffard C. Pankonien
Public bug reported:

When trying to set pc to "keep synchronized with internet servers",
error message pops up that "ntp support not installed" with a button to
"install ntp support". When clicked, a notification pops up that "an app
is requesting additional packages" that has a button "find in software".
When clicked, a box pops up that says "unable to find the ntp you were
searching for. Please see the documentation for more information". That
link leads to generic information about repositories.

[Bug 2022961] [NEW] Update gnome-shell to 44.2

2023-06-05 Thread Jeremy Bícha
Public bug reported:

Impact
--
There is a new bugfix release in the stable 44 series.

https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/blob/44.2/NEWS

Test Case
-
Complete all the non-optional test cases at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DesktopTeam/TestPlans/GNOMEShell

Other Info
--
gnome-shell provides the GNOME version number for the Settings app About page,
as of Ubuntu 22.10 (in earlier Ubuntu releases, this was provided by
gnome-desktop/gnome-desktop3)

This update requires mutter 44.2 (LP: #2022951). This was done with
bumped dependencies in debian/control. gnome-shell 44.2 could be run
with mutter 44.1, but mixing different versions of mutter & gnome-shell
is not supported upstream.

What Could Go Wrong
---
GNOME Shell is the heart of the Ubuntu desktop experience.

A severe enough bug could mean that people are unable to use their
desktop version of Ubuntu.

Smaller bugs could interrupt people's workflows.

GNOME Shell is included in the GNOME micro release exception

[Bug 2022851] Re: Inappropriate files display

2023-06-05 Thread Raymond van Rooijen
Same problem, just another explanation of the symptoms.

Whenever I delete files, or move files (move files from one nautilus
window to another).

I find that any random file (usually\always the top file in the UI) is
removed from the UI (or users view). The file that is removed from the
users view is not the file meant to be moved or deleted.

Importantly however, the right files seem to still be removed and moved.
As stated above, changing directory before changing back (as a sort of
"refresh"), shows all files were moved or deleted as expected.

2023-06-05 Thread Steve Langasek
Georgia, as noted in comment #31, it's better to use '#include if
exists' than to add a versioned dependency on apparmor. Can you update
the patches to do this and verify that it works as expected? Once this
is done please resubscribe ~ubuntu-sponsors and we can get this done.

Mutter is an essential component of the default Ubuntu desktop and for the
desktop used by Ubuntu Budgie.

A severe enough bug could mean that people are unable to use their
desktop version of Ubuntu.

Smaller bugs could interrupt people's workflows.

mutter is part of GNOME Core and is included in the GNOME micro release

[Bug 2020277] Re: Update gnome-shell to 44.1

2023-06-05 Thread Jeremy Bícha
I successfully completed all 3 test cases with gnome-shell 44.1-0ubuntu1
on Ubuntu 23.04.

One GNOME Shell extension, workrave, does not work but it also does not
work with the original gnome-shell (44.0-2ubuntu3) for Ubuntu 23.04. I
suspect this was broken between 44 Beta (where it did work) and 44 RC
where the upstream developers removed more GTK3 code. I will be
reporting that issue separately in Launchpad, but it needs to be fixed
on the workrave side and it is not a regresssion caused by this update.

2023-06-05 Thread Jeremy Bícha
I reviewed the bug and the bugfix again today. With gnome-shell
44.0-2ubuntu3 on Ubuntu 23.04, when I do the test case, the journal
shows a STACK TRACE. Eventually a crash report shows in /var/crash/ and
I get an apport popup informing me of the crash and asking if I want to
report the issue.

With gnome-shell 44.1-0ubuntu1, I get
JS ERROR: TypeError: workspace is undefined

I do not get a stack trace, or a crash in /var/crash/ or an apport
popup. Therefore, the crash is fixed even though there is still a
remaining bug.

Therefore, I am now marking this as verification-done instead of
verification-failed.

[Bug 2012388] Re: X11 window (usually AnyDesk) at top-right of the screen is invisible and steals mouse clicks

2023-06-05 Thread Luis Alvarado
I gotta update something here that I have noticed. Whenever the problem
happens, any window on the system, when trying to click on it to get it
focused on the system top bar, it will not handle the click, you would
have to drag the window a bit to get it to focus. So basically, when the
problem happens:

1. Try to click the top system bar of any window for it to get focus.
2. It won't work, so you need to drag the window for it to get focus

[Bug 2020225] Re: Update mutter to 44.1

2023-06-05 Thread Jeremy Bícha
I installed mutter 44.1-0ubuntu1 on Ubuntu 23.04 and successfully
completed the Test Case with the GNOME Classic, GNOME, Ubuntu, and
Ubuntu on Xorg sessions.

We landed the gtk4 fix all the way to lunar-updates (and fully phased)
that Andreas had mentioned earlier with the rectangle artifacts along
the window borders so there is no regression there.

While I tested mutter 44.1 with and without the corresponding gnome-
shell 44.1 update and did not see any issue having a newer mutter than
gnome-shell, I recommend that both be landed together. gnome-shell 44.1
depends on mutter 44.1 but I did not add breaks to enforce the upgrade
the opposite direction also. GNOME upstream assumes that mutter and
gnome-shell are upgraded together.

[Bug 2022930] [NEW] When deleting a file via Nautilus, following files can not be deleted

Public bug reported:

1. Try to delete a file via Nautilus (Files). On the bottom right corner

[Bug 2022916] Re: gdbusconnection: Explicitly destroy an idle source on cleanup

2023-06-05 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Hey Mike. While I understand that the issue is annoying there is always
risk in doing change to a library of the base system as libglib and
difficult to verify that there are not side effect of any of the
software using it. If there is no real user visible impact the benefit
is probably not worth the risk and effort for Ubuntu. Perhaps you could
set up a ppa or local env for your CI including the fix instead?

I'm closing the bug since the issue is fixed in the current version, it
doesn't prevent us to target older series if we decide to go the SRU way

[Bug 1891270] Re: Iranian calendar shows in Azerbaijani language

2023-06-05 Thread Julian Andres Klode
Queued for 23.10 in

https://git.launchpad.net/ubiquity/commit/?id=6ad715e6ae9dda99a9349924cc464528a759af17

For a stable release update to 22.04, feel free to follow the procedure
at

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates

to add the metadata to the bug such that it can be reproduced and
resubscribe ubuntu-sponsors when that's done, I think the patch is
trivial to adapt from the commit that it doesn't need a new debdiff.

[Bug 2022916] [NEW] gdbusconnection: Explicitly destroy an idle source on cleanup

2023-06-05 Thread Mike Gabriel
Public bug reported:

In Ubuntu Touch we run into regular unit test freezes of lomiri-app-
launch (formerly known as ubuntu-app-launch) based on some race time
conditions (number of CPUs to build/test on, CPU speed, etc.).

As it turned out, the game changer is a commit in glib2.0 upstream:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/glib/-/commit/5a69cc22dc9564db55e68531fb8250dcca7aaf17

It would be super-cool to see this commit applied on top of glib2.0 in
Ubuntu focal and Ubuntu jammy.

Thanks+Greets,
Mike (aka sunweaver @ Debian, working for the UBports core dev team these days)

[Bug 2017420] Re: Cannot open HEIF/HEIC images in 23.04/lunar anymore

2023-06-05 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
Hello Marian, or anyone else affected,

Accepted libheif into lunar-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libheif/1.14.2-1ubuntu1 in a few
hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
lunar to verification-done-lunar. If it does not fix the bug for you,
please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-lunar. In either case, without details of your testing we will
not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

** Changed in: libheif (Ubuntu Lunar)
   Status: New => Fix Committed

[Bug 1974293] Re: gnome-shell crashed on logout with SIGSEGV in js::gc::Cell::storeBuffer() from js::gc::PostWriteBarrierImpl()

2023-06-05 Thread Ghadi Rahme
Hi Steve,

I was able to confirm the fix for Jammy in a VM:

1. ghadi@ghadi-Standard-PC-Q35-ICH9-2009:~$ sudo apt list gjs
Listing... Done
gjs/jammy-proposed,now 1.72.2-0ubuntu2 amd64 [installed]
gjs/jammy-proposed 1.72.2-0ubuntu2 i386

2. Used the desktop for around 15 minutes. Opened browser tabs, scrolled
through the calendar for over 30s and scrolled through the launcher

3. Logged out of the session and logged back in.

4. ghadi@ghadi-Standard-PC-Q35-ICH9-2009:~$ ls /var/crash
ghadi@ghadi-Standard-PC-Q35-ICH9-2009:~$

Hope this helps.

[Bug 1958488] Re: [nvidia][xorg] display hangs on boot LOGO due to race of gdm and nvidia driver probe

2023-06-05 Thread Julian Andres Klode
ubuntu-sponsors was still subscribed and a task open for gdm3/focal.
AFAICT, the issue was somehow resolved in ubuntu-drivers in focal and
there's nothing to actually sponsor.

If sponsorship is still needed, please provide more details and
resubscribe ubuntu-sponsors.
