[Bug 779071] [NEW] Cannot set default metacontact account

2011-05-07 Thread Elias K Gardner
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

To reproduce: Create a metacontact by linking two contacts from
different IM protocols. Double click the new metacontact. A chat window
appears using one of the IM protocols (for me it is facebook others have
reported other protocols being used as default).

There should be a way to specify which protocol is default. I avoid
facebook whenever possibly so I now have to manually select the protocol
when contacting my metacontacts.

[Bug 620331] Re: Keyboard menu title needlessly has both icon and label

2010-10-21 Thread Elias K Gardner
The workaround in comment #31 from Extender disables layout switching
from keyboard shortcuts for me.

Actually I can't seem to switch the layout at all. Even when I delete the
dvorak layout from
system-preferences-keyboard layout tab it does not switch to standard USA
(my other layout).

I can print screen with the PrtSc button and repeating keys seems to be
fine.

So in effect it is easier to just have one layout because this also
removes the keyboard icons.

[Bug 222077] Re: GConf Editor menu item should be moved into System-Preferences

2009-04-13 Thread Elias K Gardner
Ok that rational make a lot of sense. Still even if the configuration
editor icon is hidden by default system-prefferences seems to be the
most appropriate place for it. If it were already hidden in preferences,
users who wanted it could just check the show box in alacart menu editor
rather than having a single icon in the system tools submenu or needing
to create a whole new item in preferences.

This is obviously of minor importance but I don't think that having
configuration editor hidden by default invalidates this bug. I guess
under my rational though there are a whole number of hidden by default
icons that are either broken, duplicates, or not located well.

[Bug 341201] [NEW] merge 'Passwords and Encryption Keys with Encryption and Keyrings

2009-03-11 Thread Elias K Gardner
Public bug reported:

Applications - Accessories - Passwords and Encryption Keys
-'xprop | grep WM_CLASS' reports as Seahorse
System - Preferences - Encryption and Keyrings
-'xprop | grep WM_CLASS' reports as Seahorse-preferences

These two provide some confusion. It is not clear to the average user
why they are in different places or what their different functionality
is. The Gnome experience would be simplified if they were somehow merged
together potentially in System - Preferences.

On the upstream bug they said to file a second bug for merging the two.
I have done that upstream and thought a placeholder here was a good
idea. I don't know if there is any reason for a bug here anyway because
it is to do with seahorse. Or possibly I misinterpreted the upstream
comments.

[Bug 289516] Re: 'Password and Encryption Settings' labelled as 'Encryption and Keyrings'

2009-03-11 Thread Elias K Gardner
I filed a second bug upstream to have these two merged together rather
than simple renamed. This was the suggestion if desired that was omitted
from the quote of adam schreiber's comment above (Tommi, if you really
want to open a separate bug for that second thought).

I don't see a simple way to add a second seahorse bug link so here it is
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=574961

Also the status of the Gnome bug is not being updated. Launchpade says
its confirmed on Gnome it is fixed.

Actually bug #289516 points to Gnome558245 not Gnome574961. However I
put a link in the comments of #289516 to the new Gnome574961 as it
really spawned both Gnome bugs. If #289516 could point to both Gnome
bugs it might be ideal. I could not point it to a second Seahorse bug. I
think you are right that there may have been no point in me making this
bug in the first place. Sorry for the hassle.

[Bug 291260] my apologies

2008-12-11 Thread Elias K Gardner
I believe all of you have received an invite to bebo sent on my behalf. This
was a mistake.

This morning I joined the social networking site bebo which has recently
been bought by AOL Time Warner. They asked to search my email contacts for
people who already use bebo. I allowed this and selected three of my friends
who apparently currently have bebo accounts and clicked add friends. Below
this button bebo had kindly listed and selected every email in my
addressbook which they promptly sent invites to without my knowledge.

Again I am deeply sorry.

I hope this is an appropriate way to attempt to correct the situation (I
realize it does mean getting two emails from me).

thanks for your understanding

[Bug 306144] Re: evince segmentation fault

As mentioned above the file is from jstor and according to my reading of

a message and will see if I can post the file or a similar one that
causes crashes so that we can solve the issue.

[Bug 306144] [NEW] evince segmentation fault

2008-12-07 Thread Elias K Gardner
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

I believe apport is going to attach information to this. Im running a
64bit 8.10 with Document Viewer 2.24.1 (i think this is evince) using
poppler 0.8.7 (cairo). I have a pdf that crashes with a segmentation
fault every time I scroll down to the 4th page.

The article is from jstor, after reading the terms of service I don't
believe I am allowed to upload it here. I could not find it anywhere
else online. If anyone has access to jstor the article is

Raising Rivals' Costs. Steven C. Salop and David T. Scheffman. The
American Economic Review, Vol. 73, No. 2, Papers and Proceedings of the
Ninety-Fifth Annual Meeting of the American Economic Association (May,
1983), pp. 267-271 Published by: American Economic Association.

When opening the file in GIMP I get this GIMP Message: Opening
'FILENAME.pdf' failed: Procedure 'file-pdf-load' returned no return
values. I don't know what this means yet.

I will try to report this upstream as it appears to be an upstream bug
with evince.

Thanks for reporting this bug. The same problem is happening in network manager

I think you are right, however, it was reported under network manager
because the command 'xprop | grep WM_CLASS' reports the application as
nm-connection-editor.

Again though these discussions should be continued on the bugs at bugzilla
because that is where the developers are who are most likely to take notice
and do something about this. cheers

2008-10-26 Thread Elias K Gardner
Hi, thanks for reporting your bug. I agree with you that this is a bit
confusing it would make sense to use the same title for both.

I would also like to add that for new users especially it is not
immediately clear the difference between the above mentioned 'System -
Preferences - Encryption and Keyrings' and
'applications-accessories-Passwords and Encryption Keys'.

By the way this is on intrepid though I think the menu/window names have
not changed in a release or two.

[Bug 288472] Re: I have no sound. Computer says I have an AC 97, and the help page says to open a shell and type the code in. Being new to Ubuntu, I dont know where to find a shell!

2008-10-24 Thread Elias K Gardner
I believe you are looking for the terminal. If you go to applications -
accessories - terminal the GNOME terminal will open. This is the most
common command line interface (CLI) in ubuntu used to enter commands.

A little research online is telling me that shell and terminal are not
quite the same thing but are often used interchangably. Im still a bit
fuzzy on the shell concept. If you are not looking for the terminal my
apologies.

As for your sound issues I am unable to help as of yet. If you could
discover what sound card you have a search online would likely lead you
to a place where other people have run into your problem. Unfortunately
I don't know the appropriate command to tell you what sound card you
have.

As a side note the next ubuntu release intrepid ibex 8.10 is due out in
6 days and is in release candidate stage as of yesterday. You could look
into upgrading or installing intrepid which may possibly solve your
problem but may also cause some other bug to occur.

Yes LTS released are intended to be more stable and longer lasting than non
LTS part of that is not changing them once they are released. Any changes to
a system has the potential to cause new bugs. If you are using ubuntu on
your personal computer I would upgrade to non LTS releases. I rather enjoy
all the new updates and changes. Also ubuntu releases have tended to be
pretty stable in general. Hope you enjoy intrepid when you try it.

that ubuntu developers have no control over. I would recommend you go
upstream and find the bugtracker that rhythmbox uses (bugzilla possibly)

Im not sure what to mark this bug. I thought there was an assignment

[Bug 185821] Re: nautilus-cd-burner confusing dvd burning size error

2008-10-03 Thread Elias K Gardner
Lets see if I can make myself more clear.

*yes it is reproducible

*Reproduction:
1) put a standard single layer blank dvd disc in dvd burning drive
2) on the desktop right click 'Blank DVD-ROM Disk' and select 'Open with
CD/DVD Creator'
3) A nautilus window opens that says 'CD/DVD Creator'. Drag into this window
over 4.3 GB of data as reported by nautilus.
4) click 'Write to Disc' - an error will occur leaving the message
Reload a rewritable or blank disc
Please replace the disc in the drive with a supported disc with at least 4.4
GiB free. The following disc types are supported:
DVD+R DL

*nautilus reports 4.5GB (I'm using a different amount of data than when
first reported). The error message reports I need a disc with at least
4.4GiB free. The disc says on itself that it is 4.7GB.

My confusion with this error message is that I did not understand at
first that my DVD was too small. Changing the title of the error message
to something like 'Not Enough Space On Disc' would solve this.

I think a part of the issue is due to the different ways to measure of
data, base 2 or base 10 this unfortunately will forever plague us.

[Bug 185821] Re: nautilus-cd-burner confusing dvd burning size error

2008-10-03 Thread Elias K Gardner
I should clarify that the size of the disc the error says is required is
depended on how much data you have actually tried to burn. This is
handy. Although its measurement is the only measurement reported is GiB.
However the dvd and nautilus both reporting in GB have a conflict so one
must be incorrect (the dvd i suspect).

[Bug 185821] [NEW] nautilus-cd-burner confusing dvd burning size error

2008-01-24 Thread Elias K Gardner
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus-cd-burner

Im running Ubuntu 8.04 hardy, 64bit.
The package is nautilus-cd-burner Version: 2.21.5-0ubuntu1

To recreate: drag over 4.3 Gbit of data into the nautilus-cd-burner,
then click Write to Disc, with single layer dvd.

Reload a rewritable or blank disc
Please replace the disc in the drive with a supported disc with at least 7.6
GiB free. The following disc types are supported:
DVD+R DL

While informative this error is misleading. It should be titled or start with
something like Disc/DVD too small.
A proposed fix:

title: Not enough space on disc
body: The disc only has room for x GiB, replace it with a supported disc with
at least y GiB free. DVD+R DL support more

Hardy just shipped brasero disc burning I no longer know if nautilus is

[Bug 84439] Re: [feisty] Gnome panels and alt+f2 don't work

2007-08-05 Thread Elias K Gardner
im having this problem also. Ive been using tomboy for a long time and
am not sure what started this. I am also having some other problems that
started at the same time. When I first log into gnome the loading screen
stays for a very long time before going away or goes away on its on if i
click the mouse. I am also unable to run firefox at the moment. Don't
know if any of this is related but will try and help and figure it out.

[Bug 86431] Re: nautilus-cd-burner wrongly reports burn failure

2007-04-25 Thread Elias K Gardner
I see the light! man that took to long to figure out
Question: I have done this twice now. The first time there was a new cdrecord
line for every single mb written. This was a problem because the terminal
apparently does not store 700 lines so i could not go back and copy the first
part of the log. The second time as you can see in the attachment it did the
same thing at first but then at 29Mb it jumped to 71Mb and finally to 699MB.
Even more interesting to me is the fact that the 29 and 79mb lines are
unfinished. This is prolly entirely unrelated but i found it interesting.

Is there a way to make the terminal remember more or log of some sort that
stores that info??
thanxs

[Bug 90311] non default keyboard layout on login

2007-04-24 Thread Elias K Gardner
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Installed Ubuntu with US as region and Keyboard set as U.S. English. I
have since switched to Dvorak as default with no problems except that
the login screen upon startup is still U.S English (QWERTY) and there is
no method for selecting keyboard or layout on login screen. Original
install was Breezy, have since upgraded twice and am running edgy
without a clean install. Dvorak was set as default only after the edgy
upgrade. Dvorak keyboard works fine everywhere after login. Is this
simply a problem of not having done a clean install or an actual bug?
There seems to be some duplicates but all are old and I think un-
updated.

** Affects: control-center (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: Confirmed

[Bug 86431] Re: nautilus-cd-burner wrongly reports burn failure

2007-04-24 Thread Elias K Gardner
Am I crazy? I don't know where to find the debug log. I ran this command
cdrecord fs=16m dev=/dev/cdrw -eject -dao driveropts=burnfree -v -data -nopad
'/media/media/ubuntu-7.04-desktop-i386.iso'
and burned it burned a cd with no apparent error. But again the location of the
debug log is unknown to me. :~)
I will keep searching

[Bug 86431] Re: nautilus-cd-burner wrongly reports burn failure

2007-04-21 Thread Elias K Gardner
I am getting the same bug here. If i remember correctly i had it in edgy
also but either way it is here currently in feisty. Sometimes my cds
burn correctly and sometimes they don't. In windows cds burn without
error so i think it is not a hardware issue.

[Bug 67189] Re: smb password not being saved in gnome keyring

2006-11-15 Thread Elias K Gardner
I seam to be having the same problem. Keyring does not save any passwords.
Also when I try to create a new keyring in the keyring manager I get and error
saying.
GNOME Keyring daemon is not running.
Don't know if this is helpful or even entirely related :)

[Bug 68884] Re: Error when editing tag info

2006-10-29 Thread Elias K Gardner
I receive a similar error.
Error while saving song information
internal GStreamer problem; file a bug
I get this more often when I am not editing any song information. It is also
always preceded by another error apologizing for rhythmbox closing unexpectedly
even though rhythmbox does not close. I have noticed no abnormal behavior from
rhythmbox besides displaying these two errors. I will later post the exact
wording of the first error when I manage to get it to repeat. Should I post a
separate bug for this?
