[Bug 1702878] Re: Cant add folders to Search in Gnome Control Center
Thanks for the information, I am using gnome-search-tool for my searches and it is pretty good, Gnome Files I didnt use much. As for configuring tracker I wasnt able to find any config files for it where I can tell it to avoid indexing contents of files, perhaps I will submit a bug/feature request with Gnome, I checked this: https://wiki.gnome.org/Projects/Tracker/Documentation/Configuration But it didnt help and I think it refers to an old version of tracker. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1702878 Title: Cant add folders to Search in Gnome Control Center To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/1702878/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1702878] Re: Cant add folders to Search in Gnome Control Center
sudo apt install tracker helped and now the icon is no longer greyed out. I checked the bug you linked and I definitely think that search in new Ubuntu Session needs to be improved, Unity dash searched for all my files easily and they were always very quickly accessible, KDE does the same with Baloo indexing, everything is easily found in KDE menu search. [Bug 1075923] Re: nautilus hangs copying large directories from a samba share
Just got bit by this bug. I have two laptops running 13.04. The faster one with an Intel Core I5 is running x86, and the slower one is running amd64. (I prefer x86, but the slower laptop had a different bug that prevented me from using x86.) The fast laptop doesn't have any Nautilus / Samba / GVFS problems, but the slow laptop is completely broken for file transfers. I don't know if this has to do with the speed or if 32bit vs 64bit makes the difference. With regards to the workaround proposed in comment #171, thanks a lot for the tip, that version of GVFS solved the problem. However, the best way to implement the workaround is with APT pinning. To do this: 0. Add the Precise repos mentioned in comment #171 1. Create a file called "gvfs-pin" or whatever you want in /etc/apt/preferences.d 2. [Bug 918228] [NEW] Unable to access Trash, SMB shares, computer://, network:// etc. or automount
Public bug reported: I'm running Ubuntu Oneiric 64 bit, with all -updates, -proposed, -backports, -extra etc sources and also the gnome3-team ppa as well as ricotz' gnome shell testing ppa enabled. I'm seeing the following problem: I am able to mount/unmount volumes from the GNOME Disk Utility just fine, but automounting the drives in Nautilus doesn't work. Neither does accessing any of the virtual drives like trash://, computer:// network:// or any smb shares. The graphical error message simply says "action not supported" (although all gvfs-related packages are installed). I'm figuring this has to have something to do with a gvfs error, but purging and reinstalling all gvfs- and nautilus-related packages didn't remedy the situation. Unfortunately, I can't find any gvfs-related logs to provide any error messages (where should I look?). Using nautilus via gdb doesn't show any errors. (Interestingly, mounting an external drive manually leads to it showing up in nautilus under the "Computer" category and not under "Devices" as before.) This is especially a pain in the ass because some programs like Deja Dup seem to rely on gvfs information, so even if I mount my external USB drive manually, Deja Dup will not recognize it and not start the backup. I think this bug started appearing after a recent update from ricotz' testing ppa, but I'm not sure and I'd rather not go through the arduous process of rolling back to the stock packages if there's any other way to fix this. Sorry I can't provide any more information right now. If you hint me in the right direction I can probably provide more details. ** Affects: gvfs (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gvfs in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/918228 Title: Unable to access Trash, SMB shares, computer://, network:// etc. or automount To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gvfs/+bug/918228/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 770663] Re: New keyring password keeps being reset
well, i'll try to be more specific. basically the procedure is the following: 1. changing the password for the "login" keyring 2. logout/login 3. entering the new password in the password prompt -> wireless gets connected (as a sign that the password was correct) 4. however, similar to bug #745780 (and maybe due to the same cause), another prompt comes up saying that the password was wrong (while it must have been right because wifi connected). so i cancel the other prompt. 5a. after the next logout/login, no password prompt comes up. this is because the password has been reset to be the same as the session password. (i checked that several times because locking and unlocking the keyring in the password manager only works with the session password and not with the new one i entered). 5b. the password also gets reset if i don't logout/login again (i.e. stay in the same session after step 4), which i confirmed by just locking and trying to unlock the "login" keyring once more in the password manager, which only worked with the session password. so, bottom line, my thinking is that the password being reset has something to do with the other password prompt coming up as described in step 4. i don't know if it's the same cause as bug #745780 (i have no idea of the internal workings of the keyring manager) so i filed a new bug instead of just adding it to the description of that bug. any other things i should add? i couldn't find anything in .xsession- errors related to gnome-keyring (other than some window size issues). any other place i should look? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-keyring in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/770663 Title: New keyring password keeps being reset -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 770663] [NEW] New keyring password keeps being reset
*** This bug is a security vulnerability *** Public security bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-keyring On Natty Beta 2 (all updates as of today 4/26), I wanted to change the password for the "login" keyring in Seahorse so that it would be different from the user password. I entered my old password (identical to the user password) and then entered the new password twice. Then, to test it, I locked the keyring and unlocked it later with my new password. Everything worked as expected. Then, on restart, I was prompted, as expected, with a screen to unlock my keyring. I unlocked it with my new password and for example connecting to the wifi network worked automatically. But then, just like in bug #745780, after entering the new password, the prompt kept coming up. But as in the bug described, there seemed no harm in canceling the other prompts, so I did. However, this is where it got interesting (hence the reason for this bug report): upon rebooting again (or logging out and back in, for that matter), the password prompt didn't appear at all anymore. So to figure out what happened, I called up the keyring manager and found my "login" keyring already unlocked (without me entering the password - only the login password, but I had changed the keyring password to be something different). Locking and then trying to unlock it again, I was greeted with a prompt to enter the password, but my new password kept being rejected. But entering my old login password, the keyring was suddenly unlocked. So I went ahead and repeated the entire procedure of changing the password. As before, on the next login, I was able to unlock my keyring with the new password (plus the excess prompts to enter the password again). To check if this time everything was alright, I called up the keyring manager again and locked and tried to unlock my keyring. This time, it rejected my new password (after accepting it only moments before!), and again the old password worked. So it seems to me that the problem is the following: at some point, the new password for the "login" keyring gets reset to the user's password. I'm guessing it is related to the bug #745780 mentioned before, as this only happens after canceling the excess prompts after a new login, since on first login, the new password still works to unlock the keyring. But I filed a new bug because I'm not sure if there's not more to this problem. I'm not sure if I managed to explain myself correctly, it's a really weird problem, and I have no idea why the password would be reset. Anyhow, if I can contribute any more information, just let me know. (A limited workaround might be to create a new keyring and make it default and leave the "login" keyring empty. I'll try that tomorrow.) ** Affects: gnome-keyring (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Visibility changed to: Public ** Description changed: Binary package hint: gnome-keyring On Natty Beta 2 (all updates as of today 4/26), I wanted to change the password for the "login" keyring in Seahorse so that it would be different from the user password. [Bug 763165] Re: gnome-display-properties in full screen and unity
@Chris, thanks for taking the time to look at this bug. I saw the bug you reported against gnome-control-center in Bugzilla, and you suggest there to move the label below the panel. Indeed, this was my original thoughts on how to easily fix this bug. But, upon further thinking about it, couldn't just use the monitors indicator applet on the panel to have on top of its icon an index number of the monitor (specifically, with the monochrome icons , such as in the unity default theme I think this would be informative and "slick" looking :-) ). I think this would be a more "elegant" solution which uses all of the good things that unity has to offer. Thanks again for looking into this. I wanted to try and give this little thing a shot myself, but just couldn't figure out where does one change in the position of a GTK widget (which is, for a 5 min glance at the code) what the top left label is. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/763165 Title: gnome-display-properties in full screen and unity -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 763165] [NEW] gnome-display-properties in full screen and unity
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-control-center This bug has also been reported in Unity (https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/762871) Hi, there is a small very annoying bug when using unity and the gnome- display-properties utility ("Monitor preferences"). When you use the utility in full screen mode the name of the display appears on the top left corner which "covers the "close, minimize, maximize" buttons on the panel. This is quite an unfortunate behavior. I know the neither unity settings nor the display settings are at fault, but they "don't play well together". One should think of a different way (maybe transparent, or a few pixels below the panel) to display the screen name. I am attaching a screenshot to better visualize what I am describing. ** Affects: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/763165 Title: gnome-display-properties in full screen and unity -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 763085] [NEW] gnome-display-properties and unity. Adding “primary” display checkbox
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-control-center When working with two displays there is a question of which display is the "primary". In the case of Unity the primary display is the screen on which the launcher appears for instance. This property can be set using xrandr, but the gnome-display-properties utility does not give a GUI way to set this. This should be addressed. This bug was also raised upstream (https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=588041), and was apparently solved for Gnome 3.0. With the Gnome 3.0 vs Unity thing going on, I think that a bug like this should be addressed within Unity as well (and as I understand cannot be resolved upstream). [Bug 359975] Re: evince sometimes yield error "Error printing: Too many failed attempts"
Please remember everyone that this bug is not limited to Evince. It is a Gnome bug. Once this error starts appearing, you would not be able to print from gedit or evolution or anything else that uses gnome libs. This is an absolute trainwreck of a bug for anyone but the most experienced Linux gurus. The simple fix that I have suggested several times now is to disable that wretched bit of code that checks for too many failed attempts, but this idea has continually been ignored and this bug has been continually relegated to a lower level of importance. And yes, it will probably continue in Karmic. But we're just a bunch of stupid users of free software, plagued by a bug that only affects people who use printers, which is now a minority. If we don't like it, we fix it or go elsewhere. -- evince sometimes yield error "Error printing: Too many failed attempts" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/359975 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 359975] Re: evince sometimes yield error "Error printing: Too many failed attempts"
So have we confirmed that this bug is fixed for Karmic? On the more technical side, could somebody please look into the quick fix I suggested above? I would too it myself but I'm too stupid. [Bug 359975] Re: evince sometimes yield error "Error printing: Too many failed attempts"
Once again, I would like to propose an emergency fix for this before Karmic comes out. I am no developer, but it appears to be as simple as finding the function that is the equivalent of "bool CheckForTooManyFailedAttempts()" and hack it to always return false. Whatever code is checking for some sort of failed attempts is bogus and does no good. Even if there was some sort of legitimate failed attempt the user doesn't need a stupid dialog box to tell him that his document failed to print. Just blindly try to print no matter what. Can this be done? -- evince sometimes yield error "Error printing: Too many failed attempts" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/359975 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 359975] Re: evince sometimes yield error "Error printing: Too many failed attempts"
I can confirm peter gervai's fix. What a crazy bug! Never seen anything like it. Test Process: 1. Find a big, complex PDF file. I went to http://news.google.com and printed off the whole thing to a 5 page PDF file, about 1.5 MB in size. 2. Open the PDF with Evince, click print, and then let your mouse rest in the taskbar or window manager bar. 3. Enjoy the "Too many failed attempts" message after a few seconds. 4. Wash, rinse, repeat. It will fail. 5. Now try again, click print on the same document in Evince, but this time start peddling. In an effort to eliminate the worldwide obesity problem, it is necessary to work hard for your PDF document! Start moving your mouse in circles around the screen of Evince while it spools the document. It will succeed. 6. Enjoy your printer. -- evince sometimes yield error "Error printing: Too many failed attempts" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/359975 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 314404] Re: Gnome brightness keybinding OSD locks interface
Hello, thanks for looking into this. Sorry, I do not have the Ubuntu live CD, I installed from the alternate install CD. My internet connection is slow and unreliable, so I can't download the live CD right now. I should have mentioned that my laptop has Intel 915 graphics. I don't think gnome-power-manager has error reporting built in. Anything else I can do to help? Thanks! -- Gnome brightness keybinding OSD locks interface https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/314404 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-power-manager in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 202546] Re: [Hardy] Brasero fails if CUE sheet only specifies filename
Why not make this available for Hardy? It's a needed bugfix. -- [Hardy] Brasero fails if CUE sheet only specifies filename https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/202546 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
