[Bug 1972984] [NEW] Cannot paste filename into File Save dialog of Firefox Snap

2022-05-11 Thread vanadium
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce the problem:

1. Copy a file name or a file path to the clipboard
2. Open Firefox
3. Hit Ctrl+S to open the File Save dialog.
4. Make sure that the "Name" field has focus (which it may not because of
another bug) and attempt to paste: Ctrl+V

Expected behavior: the contents of the clipboard is entered into the "Name"
field.
Observed behaviour: a dialog box appears with error message:

"
The folder contents could not be displayed
Operation not supported
"
In the same spirit, editing an existing name by e.g. copying/cutting part of
the name/path and pasting it back elsewhere in the field does not work.

[Bug 1972983] [NEW] File dialog in snap firefox does not have keyboard focus

2022-05-11 Thread vanadium
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce the issue.

After first log in into Ubuntu Desktop 22.04

1. Launch Firefox and open a website (e.g. www.ubuntu.com)
2. Hit Ctrl+S to open the Save file dialog.
3. Type "Ubuntu" to replace the default file name ("Enterprise Open Source and
Linux | Ubuntu.html"). Hit Enter. It works the first time round.
4. Hit Ctrl+S to open the Save file dialog again.
5. Type "Ubuntu - 2" to replace the default file name ("Enterprise Open Source
and Linux | Ubuntu.html"). This time, your typing fails: the file dialog is not
in focus.

Expected behavior anytime when opening a File dialog: the file dialog
should have keyboard focus.

Observed behavior: the file dialog does not have focus, except the very
first time in the session.

Same observations also for File Open dialogs.

[Bug 1795028] Re: Nautilus crashes during search in is_recursive_search (search-engine)

2018-10-07 Thread vanadium
It is my experience that Ubuntu Search also crashes when searching from
the home directory.

- Most likely to occur with short searches (three to four letters)
- More likely to happen early in the session than after a few restarts of the
session.

Core functionality of a modern file browser that stripped type-ahead
search away to make place for recursive search. More dan "Medium"
importance according to me.

Nautilus 3.26.4 is where I am still experiencing the issue.

[Bug 1389200] [NEW] Type ahead discards first character

2014-11-04 Thread vanadium
Public bug reported:

Nautilus apparently clears the keyboard buffer sometimes, e.g. when
moving to another directory. If the user is using type ahead rather
rapidly, as power users do, the first character typed while a nautilus
window is opened or while switching to a new folder is discarded.

Steps to reproduce

Type a few letters of a folder in the current directory, press enter
then immediately continue type the name of a folder underneath. If the
folder is opened for the first time in the session, and if the folder is
larger, opening the folder will take a tiny bit of time. However, the
first character the user was already typing may have been discarded.

Expected behaviour: user keystroke should not be discarded but be used
when nautilus is again ready to accept keyboard input.

[Bug 1389209] [NEW] In home lens categories are automatically turned off

2014-11-04 Thread vanadium
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu 14.10
Release:14.10

  Installed: 7.3.1+14.10.20141016-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 7.3.1+14.10.20141016-0ubuntu1

Seemingly randomly, categories in the home lens are turned off
automatically. On a subsequent search, results from that category are
not returned. When the user presses esc to clear the search window,
the default categories are enabled again.

Opening Filter results in the Dash allows to follow the status of the
categories.

Detailled description of the problem:

- Both my Applications and FilesFolders categories are open
- superprojects: after a short while, many files and folders appear. however,
I notice that Applications is being disabled.
- superfirefox: rather than having the familiar firefox icon appear, I see a
few files (that presumably have been downloaded with firefox). Indeed, even
while the typing erased the previous search term, Applications continues to
be disabled, and thus is not searched from the home lens. Pressing esc and
then retyping the query re-enables the Applications lens again.

Expected behaviour: as soon as a new query is entered, all Categories
should be re-enabled. Typing firefox from the home lens always should
reveal the firefox icon, unless the user actively chooses to disable the
Applicationa category.

I have the impression this happens when there are many results from one
single category. e.g I can reproduce this typing the name of one of my
folders, e.g. Projects, under my Documents folder. Such a query
presumably retrieves all files with projects in the path name. At that
point, other lenses appear to be dissabled, and unfortunatelly remain
disabled when the user enters a new query.

[Bug 517215] Re: Evince prints an extra blank page after each print job

2013-03-20 Thread vanadium
I would like to see this bug reopened, because it is an issue that I
have been facing since I started using Ubuntu four years ago, and which
I have experiences with a range of HP laserprinters (strangely enough, I
do not have any experience with other printers ;). This is an anoying
bug, causing paper to be spilled. I am surprised to find so few
information about this on the internet: apparently people do not care.

The issue is long standing and confined to evince only. To reproduce,
open a PDF in Ubuntu, Ctrl+p, select Current page, and instead of the
current page, the current page + a blanc page comes out. Print the
entire document, and an extra page comes out.

This is not related to mismatched papersizes between the print settings
and the PDF page size: I tested that. (in fact, there would be no reason
for a blank page even if paper sizes would not match).

I changed the description of this bug from Additional blank pages to
Evince prints an extra blank page after each print job.

Please provide clear instructions if you need extra information, as my
technical background is limited.

** Summary changed:

- Additional blank pages

[Bug 544639] Re: evince doesn't remember the window size

2012-11-21 Thread vanadium
Ubuntu 12.10 and evince 3.6.0-0ubuntu2, fresh install, fully updated (21
november): this still seems to work flakey.
Launch one document, maximize, close
Launch another document: it is launched maximized: OK. Close
Launch a third document: it is launched unmaximized, although it fills the
screen. Expectation: it should launch maximized.

Experiment done on a fresh install, with new documents that never were
opened on the system before.

[Bug 858333] Re: Nautilus quick search not working

2011-10-27 Thread vanadium
An update today fixed the disappearance of the text box, yet tere is
another issue. Steps to reproduce:

- Clik file system to browse from /
- navigate to usr/share/applications

usrentershareenterappli

Upon enter, the text search remains open, still containing the text
usr. It is not possible to continue typing to select share, as
nautilus is looking for usrshare.

Pressing esc makes the textbox disappear, but does not clear it: when
typing, it reappears, still containing the text usr.

I confirm this issue on Hardy. Installing cm-super fixed the display
issue. After that, the document that Benjamin Redelings added opens
instantaneously. However, printing continues to generate a very low
quality bitmapped printout.

The problem is there with PDFs created using pdfLatex. I do not have the
problem with PDFs generated by ghostscript.

I confirm that the problem is with evince only. No issue with Acrobat
Reader.
