I don't know what mutter is or if it's responsible but since automatic update of 20.04 on Thursday, I believe, at the next bootup the screen has a black border around the usual screen display, i.e. shrunken desktop. NVideo card used. Search sent me here but for font size issues. Please keep me informed if this is your doing and how to fix it. I just reinstalled Ubuntu 20.04.1 on my laptop and changed the graphics driver to "NVIDIA driver metapackage from nvidia-driver-450 (proprietary, tested)" and it seems to have fixed this small text issue (and also the corrupted background bug). Okay, ever since I installed this bug fix, my mouse has been playing up. First, dragging and dropping across windows exhibited errant behaviour, such as dropping the dragging item in between box borders. Now, every once in a while, my mouse's primary buttons switch. The original issue has been resolved but this new issue is a little bit more problematic. I have raised a bug with LibreOffice which I believe may be related. https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=137142 To summarise, with a scaling factor of 1.25 and GNOME Desktop Environment Universal Access accessibility Large Print set to on I am unable to see fully the LibreOffice Print dialogue. Setting Large Print to off cures the problem BUT my low vision means I really need to squint. Setting the scaling factor to 1.0 also succeeds but rather bizarrely also automatically switches off GNOME Desktop Environment Universal Access accessibility Large Print. Is all this related? It's not working for me using nvidia graphic card. The only way to work around is to use lightdm instead of gdm3, but I can't login automatically. I started using Ubuntu budgie in dual boot until the bug is fixed. I tried Kubuntu and the bug is also in Kubuntu. I tested the current daily Ubuntu Desktop Focal iso file (with a persistent live system), and fractional scaling works with a 4k monitor, where is used to fail. The bug is fixed when I updated mutter to 3.36.1-1ubuntu0.20.04.1. BUT After an "Automatic Screen Lock", the display turned off, the Gnome Shell crash and show us a blank screen with the message "Oh no! Something has gone wrong." This bug did not appears before the update. I have a NVIDIA card. I think that this problem occurs only with NVIDIA users. As for Ubuntu 20.10, what is the timing for the arrival of the patch? Will it take some time after arriving on 20.04 or will they be contextual? Marco Trevisan, I found a problem with this fix from PPA: After an "Automatic Screen Lock" with a monitor turned off, the Gnome Shell crash and show us a blank screen with the message "Oh no! Updated with PPA. I don't have any more problems on the shell and gdm! The fix seems to work well, thanks Marco Trevisan for the work. I have been having the same problem for about a month now after an update. This is happening on 2 different PC's. After power up I have to open the tweak tool fonts>scaling factor. I have to click down one then back up. then the font looks correct. Other wise everything is larger than it should be.
