[Bug 511903] Re: Notification balloon disappears when hovering over it
you can click through the bubbles that's why they go away when you need to use this screen corner, those bubble don't have buttons or anything to interact on, they just do display informations... ** Package changed: gnome-panel (Ubuntu) = notify-osd (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: notify-osd (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Low -- Notification balloon disappears when hovering over it https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/511903 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-panel in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 511903] Re: Notification balloon disappears when hovering over it
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However this seems to be the correct behaviour of the notifications. ** Changed in: gnome-panel (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid -- Notification balloon disappears when hovering over it https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/511903 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-panel in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 511903] Re: Notification balloon disappears when hovering over it
Agreed, this is the correct behavior, however, I am not sure it is the best behavior. I can't quite put my finger on it, but I never quite right about it. Maybe it should fade away, or become translucent? The original reporter's suggestion of having a X to close the notification is very Windows-esqe and is really only useful if the bubble was to remain up until the user acknowledges it. That particular behavior has been often criticized by UI experts and so I would like to remain away from that. -- Notification balloon disappears when hovering over it https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/511903 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-panel in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 511903] Re: Notification balloon disappears when hovering over it
Well, I think that there is no reason to have it disappear when the user hovers over it. My reaction, and I guess it's common behavior, is to hover over it, independently on what action follows - so that if it disappears, the reaction is what the ...?? The X is not the only possible option - when a user connects to a wireless network, it says something like click on the icon, so making the baloon clickable as well would be intuitive as well. As for the X itself, I have no idea of the windows behavior - I was referring to the Growl in Mac, which in spite of the UI experts, works pretty well - it's not mutually exclusive with timed disappearing, in fact, in Growl - generally - the balloons disappear either if you click on the X _or_ after some time. -- Notification balloon disappears when hovering over it https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/511903 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-panel in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 511903] Re: Notification balloon disappears when hovering over it
Saverio, the reason for having it disappear is because otherwise, it would prevent users from being able to click on window elements below the notification box. For Jaunty Jackalope (9.04), it did not do this, and it would be fairly annoying if you used an application like Pidgin that also used notification icons to display status changes of buddies. I do agree that it can be improved, but not having it disappear was actually worse than the current behavior. Also, I am a little confused by your statement when a user connects to a wireless network, it says 'click on the icon'. I am not aware of this behavior. Does this happen only for joining new networks? -- Notification balloon disappears when hovering over it https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/511903 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-panel in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
