** Attachment added: Screenshot-Weather Preferences.png

** Description changed:

I think this is a bug in libgtk.

On Karmic, I'm seeing buttons that have an underscore instead of an
- underline for the accelerator key. It's more obviously what I'm talking
+ underline for the accelerator key. It's more obvious what I'm talking
about by looking at the screenshots I posted.

It happens only on certain buttons, but on those certain buttons it
happens consistently. I don't know why. And the accelerator is
actually broken on the keyboard when this happens, as well. Underlined
accelerators work fine, but underscored accelerators are not even
  registered on the keyboard.

2009-07-26 Thread mac_v
Thank you for bringing this bug to our attention. Unfortunately a paper
cut should be a small usability issue that affects many people and is
quick and easy to fix. I'm afraid this bug can't be addressed as part of
this project.

This is not the setup of an average user and hence not a papercut.

A paper cut is a minor usability annoyance that an average user would
encounter on his/her first day of using a new installation of Ubuntu
9.10.

For further info about papercuts criteria , pls read
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PaperCut

Don't worry though, This bug has been marked as invalid ONLY in the
papercuts project.

selected on startup didn't help. I can hear the login sound but then Num

2009-07-26 Thread Robert Hooker
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 404219 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/404219

Changing package to gnome-control-center. This is a problem because
gnome-control center is changing gconf settings in
/desktop/gnome/peripherals/mouse/ like the old gnome-settings-daemon
touchpad settings used, but g-s-d uses
/desktop/gnome/peripherals/touchpad/ now. The result is g-s-d is loading
the default /desktop/gnome/peripherals/touchpad/ settings every boot,
after hal so you can't change it through a fdi even. The bug has been
fixed in g-c-c 2.27.4 which has the touchpad tab working with all of the
new settings.

[Bug 404340] Re: Newest version causes high CPU load

2009-07-26 Thread Andreas Brauchli
Also confirming that installing pulseaudio (pulseaudio-esound-compat is
not required) fixes the loops

WARNING **: Connection failed, reconnecting...
socket(): Address family not supported by protocol

seen in
- gnome-settings-daemon
- gnome-volume-control
- gnome-volume-control-applet

would be nice if it weren't a dependency (alsa works just fine for me; i
think of PA only as additional latency / cpu cycles) - or if it needs
be, then add it as explicit dependency to these packages (not just to
libpulse0 as it stands now).

Sarvatt on IRC also suggested setting
/apps/gnome_settings_daemon/plugins/sound/active to no in gconf-editor
that would probably fix the gnome-settings-daemon issue, but not the
gnome-volume-control[-applet] one.

[Bug 404823] [NEW] hibernate / suspend RESUME failure on 64 bit 9.04

2009-07-26 Thread jfburkhart
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

Hello

On a Samsung X360 with Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty 64 bit version) I have a
problem with RESUME from hibernate or sleep. In both cases it seems my
computer will sleep/hibernate, and in the latter case when going through
the grub loading stage, it even states 'waking' or something, but
ultimately, it seems to completely restart the X-server, therefore the
state of my desktop is not preserved at all.

Everything worked fine with 32bit Jaunty.

[Bug 404340] Re: Newest version causes high CPU load

2009-07-26 Thread Chris Coulson
Disabling the sound plugin probably won't fix it, as it is the media-
keys plugin that is using Pulseaudio. (The sound plugin uses it too, but
not all the time). gnome-settings-daemon now uses Pulseaudio for setting
volume (in exactly the same way that gnome-volume-control-applet does),
so if you disable Pulseaudio, your volume keys won't change your audio
volume.

[Bug 404828] [NEW] [Karmic] gnome-volume-control-applet uses 30+% cpu after login, fails to connect after being killed

2009-07-26 Thread VladNistor
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-media

gnome-media:
  Installed: 2.27.4-0ubuntu2
  Candidate: 2.27.4-0ubuntu2
  Version table:
 *** 2.27.4-0ubuntu2 0

Description:Ubuntu karmic (development branch) [alpha 3]
Release:9.10

Linux unknown-device 2.6.31-4-generic #22-Ubuntu SMP Fri Jul 24 18:05:56
UTC 2009 x86_64 GNU/Linux

00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio
Controller (rev 03)

After the past few days of upgrading my karmic installation I woke up
with a weird spike in system CPU usage. I found it was gnome-volume-
control-applet. This happens after I log in.

I obviously kill the applet. When attempting to start it back up from
the terminal I get a repeating error (shows until I ctr+c the app):

** (gnome-volume-control-applet:27995): WARNING **: Connection failed,
reconnecting...

** (gnome-volume-control-applet:27995): WARNING **: Connection failed,
reconnecting...

** (gnome-volume-control-applet:27995): WARNING **: Connection failed,
reconnecting...

** (gnome-volume-control-applet:27995): WARNING **: Connection failed,
reconnecting...

This may be unrelated but gnome-settings-daemon also takes up about the
same amount of cpu after booting until stopped.

Let me know if you need extra info.
What you need to do to reproduce this is log into Karmic 64 bit alpha3.

The attention sound is not happening for me under the same conditions
with Karmic. Actually, I don't seem to be getting any attention sound at
all at the moment, but neither do I see any repeated messages in the
auth log. It looks like it isn't a problem for me under Karmic.

More interesting.. If I mount the filesystem (by clicking on it) as a
normal user, it mounts fine. If I have a root nautilus window open
(gksudo nautilus) then the filesystem shows up as mounted (correctly)
and actually has an icon. The name is duff, but the icon is there... See
screenshot.

[Bug 382167] Re: LCD backlight flickers when adjusting it and when the system is idle

2009-07-26 Thread Enrico Gueli
It looks like in Karmic alpha3 the backlight works really good.
The only flaw is the relative slowness of each brightness change: it can't
follow rapid changes in the brightness applet slider, but eventually the
brightness reaches the desired value. I can perfectly live with that.
Thanks!!

[Bug 404678] Re: mine game shows not the exact played time

2009-07-26 Thread Alex Lourie
This also happens with Karmic Alpha 3.

After you begin playing, each time you're clicking in the field,
either to select a mine or open a square, the timer gets rewound and the
ticking is going in positive direction. In any case, it is highly
probable that you will end the game in negative time.

Problem seems to be in the gnomine application itself.

[Bug 400820] Re: gnome-volume-control-applet takes up to 40% cpu

2009-07-26 Thread Vincenzo Ciancia
Ranting, not ranting, upstream commenting that pulseaudio should be made
necessary for gnome volume control in distributions... and then... here
is an interesting upstream comment!

 Comment #9 from Marc-Andre Lureau(gnome-media developer, points: 21)
2009-07-26 10:20 UTC [reply]

(In reply to comment #8)

how can I use gnome-media without the pulseaudio? It used to work in previous
 versions but not in 2.27.x.

./configure --enable-gstmix

Now if some ubuntu developer could please investigate what this switch does and
eventually enable that one for gnome-volume-control, that would be very very
nice.

I mean: I am loving pulseaudio and even found some dirty workaround for
skype (that is, disabling pulseaudio temporarily). But it would be even
nicer if the gnome mixer could use its full power even without
pulseaudio. That will not change anything in ubuntu and will improve its
flexibility. I think upstream is going to maintain that code anyways so
we should not worry.

[Bug 404593] Re: No or wrong icons for filesystems

2009-07-26 Thread Chris Coulson
The clue is here:

themed icons: [gdu-raid-array] [gdu-raid] [gdu]

devicekit-disks uses new icon names for RAID members, and that might be
causing your issue. Does the problem go away if you create an icon
called gdu-raid-array, eg by doing something like ln -s
/usr/share/icons/Human/scalable/devices/gnome-dev-harddisk.svg
/usr/share/icons/Human/scalable/devices/gdu-raid-member.svg? (You might
need to create the icon in some other sizes for it to show properly in
the panel).

If that works, then this is probably an issue with the Human theme (it
needs some new icons)

[Bug 404875] [NEW] rhythmbox should rather remember relative file path and volume id instead of absolute path

2009-07-26 Thread saepia
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Seems that currently rhythmbox stores song's path as absolute filesystem
path.

It causes a problem if you store music on volume that needs to be
mounted before use. E.g. I have separate NTFS partition, and in most
cases it gets mounted as /media/disk. But if I have pendrive plugged in
during bootup it gets mounted as /media/disk-1. In this case rhythmbox
can find none of my songs.

The solution could be to store in the rhythmbox's database volume unique
identifier plus relative path on the volume instead of full absolute
path.

Architecture: amd64
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.04

[Bug 400820] Re: gnome-volume-control-applet takes up to 40% cpu

2009-07-26 Thread elmarco
#45, Vincenzo,

The gstmix version of gnome-volume-control is deprecated. It is
maintained for Solaris by Solaris guys. It's not meant to be a 1-1
substitute of the new gnome-volume-control, which uses the PulseAudio
features (I won't make the long list here).

We decided to opt-in for PulseAudio 1 year ago, because it is the only
way to move forward the audio stack on Linux. It is clearly the best we
can do to improve sound experience with GNOME, and for that, GNOME need
to depend on it.

The old gnome-volume-control based on gstmix is marked as deprecated.
GStreamer folks are also in the process of deprecating the gstmixer
interface in the next major release.

Eventually, some day, some folks will try to make an abstract audio
mixer library. But this is not a simple task. And most probably, it
won't depend on GStreamer this time.

contents (book1.html and others) are located in
/usr/share/doc/libgtk2.0-doc/faq/html/ and

sudo ln -s ../../doc/libgtk2.0-doc/gtk-tutorial gtk-tutorial

2. Move faq contents

sudo mv faq/html/* gtk-faq

3. Move tutorial contents
cd /usr/share/doc/libgtk2.0-doc
sudo mv tutorial/html/* gtk-tutorial

[Bug 404896] [NEW] Password reset for POP accounts is not obvious.

2009-07-26 Thread nonety
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

Public security bug reported:

Ubuntu 8.04, Evolution 2.22.3.1 -- Judging from the number of reports on
POP password management under Evolution, this is a weakness in the
implementation. As a software developer of some 35 years experience, I
find myself amazed that some knowledgeable developer hasn't picked this
up to fix it. This bug report is to request, in the strongest possible
terms, that there be some kind of password reset mechanism for POP
accounts that really works, and is as obvious as the password reset for
Launchpad, which I just used to submit this bug report. The reason I
need to do this is that I want to change the account passwords on the
POP server periodically to lessen the probability of hacking. I thank
all of you, collectively, for your attention to this and I hope to see
this addressed ASAP with a rational fix.

Rolf - We generally use Fix Committed when fixed upstream for Gnome
packages, because we know when they're going to roll new tarballs and
they're generally on time - so if it is fixed upstream then it will be
likely fixed in Ubuntu quite quickly.

Guys what are you planning to do with gnome-volume-control without
pulseaudio? I don't get it: it's completely unuseful. If you remove
pulseaudio you will probably remove also gnome-volume-control.

2009-07-26 Thread Dave Lentz
arky, a patch has been committed upstream for the CPU usage issue. It should
find its way into Ubuntu soon. In the meantime, I have found that creating a
~/.pulse/client.conf file with this single line:
autospawn = false
will fix the CPU usage.
