2009-10-14 Thread Surendhar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

The boot screen animation and the boot screen itself fail to appear at the
booting process. This happens every time the computer is booted leaving the
following message.

[0x - 0x]
0.2xx: PCI :00:12.0: BAR 6: Address space collision on of device

The boot process continues on text mode after this message. However the boot
process is normal ending with the logon screen.

[Bug 403564] Re: Incorrect battery recall warning for Lenovo T61

2009-10-14 Thread Martin Pitt
Sorry, I forgot that the Lenovos have totally weird product names. Can
you please give me the output of

  hexdump -C /sys/class/dmi/id/product_version

instead?

Also, please do

  gconftool -u /apps/gnome-power-manager/notify/perhaps_recall

to show the recall notice again. Then, please download attached file,
install it with

  sudo cp 95-devkit-power-battery-recall-ibm.rules /lib/udev/rules.d/

then reset the key again with

  gconftool -u /apps/gnome-power-manager/notify/perhaps_recall

then reboot your machine, and check if it doesn't show the warning any
more?

[Bug 451228] [NEW] Icons in gnome panel are too large

2009-10-14 Thread unimatrix
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

This is not a usability bug, it is an aesthetic bug.

The icons in:
 - notification area
 - quick lounge applet
 - icons added as application launcher
are all too large!

Right now they are so tall they basically span from top to bottom of the panel.
And this makes it look ugly and unprofessional.
They need to be scaled down some 25%.

I can't seem to get a backtrace (it just says No stack). Note that
triggering the bug sometimes takes a few tries, and on one occasion, the

that, after failing to input the correct password several times, the
screen just went black (mouse pointer visible and moveable though)

[Bug 449702] Re: Default ntp server list doesn't have any servers enabled

2009-10-14 Thread Thierry Carrez
Confirming the refresh/initial-list issue:
- Install karmic from CD
- Bring up time admin
- Select keep in sync
- Confirm installation of NTP support
- Look at server list: none is checked
- Look at /etc/ntp.conf and see that server ntp.ubuntu.com is there
- Close the time admin window
- Open it again
- Scroll down server list, ntp.ubuntu.com is checked

The issue seem to be that the list is loaded once, ntp.ubuntu.com isn't
part of it, and enabling NTP support doesn't refresh it.

** Changed in: gnome-system-tools (Ubuntu)

** Summary changed:

[Bug 447098] Re: the new account wizard only let you create a jabber and g-talk account

2009-10-14 Thread Sebastien Bacher
The option is meant to create new accounts, not to enter accounts you
have already

upstream bug comment

This is kind of expected, as there's no way of creating, say, a MSN account
programmatically. In fact, GTalk should not be there either.

What we could do though is to redirect the user to the on-line page where you
can sign-up to the service.

[Bug 451282] [NEW] display is fully dimmed after resume from suspend

2009-10-14 Thread Harm van Bakel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

When I resume from suspend (while on AC power), the laptop display
brightness is set to it's lowest level, even when I had the brightness
turned all the way up before. Interestingly enough, this only seems to
happen on the first suspend after a reboot. Once I have turned up the
display brightness again using the function keys, the next
suspend/resume cycle will work normally (until the next reboot).
Finally, when I use the function keys to increase the brightness after a
suspend, I see that the brightness level in the notification bar
indicates that the brightness is set to the maximum. Only after repeated
adjustments with the function keys, the indicator 'resets' and reflects
the true display brightness level. I'm using the proprietary nvidia
display driver, but I've never had this problem before in Jaunty. Also,
in case it makes a difference, I've set my laptop to suspend on lid
closure since that's the way I generally suspend the laptop.

[Bug 451280] [NEW] Vegas Strip Blackjack won't let me hit after splitting aces

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-games

the first set, and can only get one card on the second set. Only option
after that is to click on the dealer's hand and (usually) loose.

[Bug 451285] [NEW] If pam policy requires the default user's password to be changed, gdm hangs, never reaching a login box or the desktop

2009-10-14 Thread Dave Martin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

If pam policy requires the default user's password to be changed when
gdm starts up, gdm hangs... never reaching a login box or the desktop

This issue was observed in http://cdimages.ubuntu.com/ports/daily-
live/20091014/karmic-desktop-armel+imx51.img, when installing via
ubiquity --debug and when the password entered for the default user in
ubiquity does not meet PAM's password security requirements, but I'm
guessing the problem is not restricted to this particular set of
circumstances.

The problem can be provoked on an installed system by setting the
password last changed time field in /etc/shadow for the default user
to 0, configuring gdm to auto-login (if it wasn't so configured before)
and restarting gdm. From experience on a previous daily-live image, I
believe there may also be problems even if gdm is not configured to
auto-login.

[Bug 381164] Re: database disk image is malformed

2009-10-14 Thread Jason Wagner
I ran into this error after doing an unclean shutdown on my Thinkpad
T400 running ubuntu 9.04. After restarting my machine, I was seeing
errors in evolution and it was unable to load my inbox. The error was:

Error while opening store spooldir://var/spool/mail -- database disk
image is malformed.

To solve this problem, I closed Evolution and I ran the command from
Olivier Berger in comment #18. After installing sqlite3, the command ran
and told me that I had issues with my spool directory (duh). This helped
me find the location of that folders.db file.

/home/jason/.evolution/mail/spooldir/var/spool/mail/folders.db

I first backed up this file to my desktop and then did a rm folders.db.
After restarting Evolution a few times, my mail was back and everything
works again.

Thanks!

[Bug 449286] Re: [karmic] evince apparmor profile breaks zotero reference database

2009-10-14 Thread Jamie Strandboge
I played around with this a bit, and evince works ok for me. For example:
$ apparmor module is loaded.
14 profiles are loaded.
14 profiles are in enforce mode.
   ...
   /usr/bin/evince-previewer
   /usr/bin/evince-thumbnailer
   /usr/bin/evince
   ...

Then after opening the pdf via zotero (by double clicking the item in the
middle pane):
$ sudo aa-status | grep 'evince ('
   /usr/bin/evince (7570)
$ ps auxww|grep 7570
jamie 7570 1.1 0.6 400912 27180 ?Sl 09:27 0:00 evince
file:///home/jamie/.mozilla/firefox/o8cpmki3.default/zotero/storage/W99ZU22G/desktopguide.pdf

Can you give exact steps as to how to reproduce the problem? I am new to
zotero and am using the beta version of the extension.

[Bug 40872] Re: Desktop icons are allowed to overlap horribly

2009-10-14 Thread Miles Lane
I gave up filing bugs against Gnome years ago for this very reason. I
have much older bugs than this that have been mothballed. Because there
are so fewdevelopers who are writing the gnome code, they are always
overworked and thier priorities are determined by personal interests or
thier corporations interests. What incentive is there for testers when
90% of thier bugs languish for years? Oh well. I don't blame anyone.
I am sure everyone is doingthe best they can. I do deeply wish
thatusers' priorities had greater influence, but so it goes.

correctly by some libraries until your session is restarted with the
fixed versions.
