[Bug 532633] Re: [Master] Window Control buttons: position/order/alignment
I also feel a strong temptation to add another why I don't like those buttons, but let me try differently: To me the problem seems to be, that ALL themes are affected by a decision meant for the new themes only. So I propose to fix this by changing the GLOBAL setting for button positions into a PER-THEME setting. And as the design team makes use of this setting, they would be responsible to convince people of Gnome to fix this. Apart from my interest on fixing this bug I am very pleased to see what happens in the Ubuntu community if freedom is in danger - even if it's only the freedom to choose button positions. I feel very comfortable among people who care about freedom and who care about details. After all, this is why I love Linux! -- [Master] Window Control buttons: position/order/alignment https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/532633 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to metacity in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 551480] [NEW] pdf: wrong proportions and margins
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evince When using evince to display and print pdf documents the margins and proportions are wrong. As test pdf I used the Ubuntu CUPS test page. The pdf has been printed by using evince (scale is set to 100% and no options of the View menu are set) and lpr with two different printers (HP Laserjet 4200 and HP Officejet Pro 8500). I put the two prints (of the Laserjet) together and scanned them - the result is attached to this bug report. When using evince the top margin is much larger than using lpr. Printing with Adobe Reader or printing the same document using Windows is just like printing with lpr. But it is not only the top margin. If you move the evince sheet so the two top margins are beside each other you can see that the rest of the document is out of alignment as well. Additionally (as you can see) the line thickness isn't the same. This report isn't a duplicate of others that report from bad margins only when printing - the bad alignment can already be seen in the GUI. @Jefspa Leta: Thanks for the underlying information... It's right that having background from default theme is not so nice to see when you don't want mauve colors on your desk and have removed default background, even if this no more a fundamental deal-breaker for ubuntu choice. I read some would like to make this configurable using an interface... But maybe something more simple could be done: -Configure gdm login background according to proposed (or last) login user theme background... because these are usually synchronised by users so we could imo avoid creating another config and do this automatically. -Use a default neutral login theme, black or grey colors for instance, that will be convenient whatever user theme will be. I've tried without any options (like crossfade) and by disabling all the plugins. The only difference I've seen is that the info-panel plugin takes even more CPU. So it's not related to the options/plugins. It's also not related to format. Happens with both ogg and MP3 and with every single file I have on my disk. gst-launch doesn't have any problem. The process stays behind 2% of the CPU (and PA always under 1%). Also, note that it's fully related to play. As soon as I hit the pause button, the CPU drop instantly. [Bug 440068] Re: Messaging menu shows entries for users without messages
Okay, I changed my mind. Just to clarify; 1. the fedora guys have marked it as wont-fix since which we read this comment in the fedora bug tracker: Jonathan Blandford 2009-11-16 08:23:37 EST [ Note that upstream has since changed their mind on that, and claims to be considering how to include OTR. [Bug 197762] Re: file transfers on USB flash key (pendrive) or USB HDD are slowing down with time
i had similar issues but also when i was trying to copy a file(around 50-700mb or larger) from my local hdd to another folder of the same hdd!!! so what i found out was that this was happening only in files that i had downloaded with transmission! What file system were you using on your hdd, and what version of Ubuntu are you using? This isn't surprising, because bittorrent downloads tend to write the file in random order (depending on what is made available from the bt seeders and the bt peers) and in multiple threads. Using ext4 and a relatively modern kernel, it won't be too bad, because ext4 has better allocation algorithms than ext3. It's best though, if the bt client uses fallocate(), which is I'll bet what qbittorrent is doing. So this is a useful bit of information, but I suspect some users have different causes for their problems, which is one of the reasons why most kernel developers have refused to use Launchpad. Too many ubuntu users are glomming onto a bug report, and they post different performance problems all in a single bug report, without bothering to give full information about their hardware, software versions, what file system they are using, etc. And then on top of that Launchpad is slow as a dog when there it gets too long. Which is why this bug is marked invalid and why I beg people, if they have performance problems, to open new bugs and to give full details about their hardware configuration, what version of Ubuntu they are running, the exact specifics of the USB device, etc. Otherwise this can be a great place for people to vent, but most people who aren't paid to pay attention to dysfunctional bug forums will simply say, Beam me up Scotty, there's no intelligent life here. -- file transfers on USB flash key (pendrive) or USB HDD are slowing down with time https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/197762 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
