[Bug 439448] Re: visual corruption affecting several panel applets

2010-06-11 Thread Saurav
@Teej: 1) It works for me. 2) It will not conflict with gdm because it
runs after the user has logged in. 3) It will not result in extra panels
(see point 6 below). 4) It has as yet always resulted in a panel that is
normal and not yet in one that needs to be taken back to normal. 5)
The command can, of course, be replaced by killall gnome-panel or just
pkill gnome-panel because the panel restarts automatically. I was
experimenting with the operator just to be on the safe side. 6) To
test all of this, when you are logged in and the panels are all working
correctly, open the terminal and try the commands pkill gnome-panel or
killall gnome-panel, and gnome-panel separately.

@Zbych: There does not seem to be any known solution to this problem
yet, which is a pity. Every workaround is always silly from the point
of view of correctness. That is why it is called a workaround.

[Bug 478920] Re: gnometris screen disappears and shows desktop when piece moves.

2010-06-11 Thread Alex Wardle
In ubuntu 9.10 I had compiz running, now in 10.04 I don't and the
problems disappeared. Therefore it was either being caused by compiz
(most likely) or by an older version of the program. I'll try running
compiz and seeing if the bug reappears.

 Status in Compiz: Invalid
Status in Desktop panel for GNOME: New
 Status in Indicator Applet: New
Status in “gnome-panel” package in Ubuntu: Triaged

 Bug description:
Binary package hint: gnome-panel, nm-applet, etc...

 SUMMARY:

After graphical logon notification area gets scrambled. Icons are in
terrible mess. Some of them are overlapping others. Sometimes network
manager icon is missing. Sometimes phantom icons show up. They can be clones
of any other icons in the notification area. Bug affects any graphics card:
 ATI, nVidia, Intel...

WAY TO FIX IT FOR THE CURRENT SESSION:

When you get your icons distorted right-click on the affected panel (not
icons) click Properties. In Panel Properties change panel orientation to
Left or Right and back to Top or Bottom. In my case all icons are
displayed properly, but one (nm-applet) is missing.

 WORKAROUND 2:

Right click the Gnome panel and remove the offending applets and re-add
 them, i.e. Indicator Applet, etc.

[Bug 439448] Re: visual corruption affecting several panel applets

2010-06-11 Thread markba
In my situation, the sound icon has disappeared, whereas most people are
complaining about doubling the sound icon. It is really quite odd,
because the sound icon is part of the indicator-applet, and other
indicators like network manager are (still) visible; that means that
somewhere, the configuration of that particular applet has gone wrong.

Furthermore, the distance between the applets which have gained (by
design) in 10.04, is back where is was before: now the applets are
positioned right next to each other, just like it was in 9.10.

I've upgraded from 9.10 to 10.04 several weeks ago and right after the
upgrade, everything is fine. The disappearance of the sound icon and the
removal of the distance space happened simultaneously, from about last
week.

[Bug 572115] Re: Brasero copy to image, select window close button badly named

2010-06-11 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
** Description changed:

- If you use Brasero to copy a disk to a .iso file, you need to select
- which file you would like to use. In the File selector window that
- comes up the only button down the bottom right of the window is Close.
- Now if I click that is it going to use the file I just selected, or
- revert back to what it was before I click it? I know the answer because
- I have done it 50 odd times now, but it still annoys me every time. Why
- not Open, Save, Select or something like that?
+ 1. Launch Brasero.
+ 2. Choose Disc copy.
+ 3. Insert a CD/DVD.
+ 4. In the Select a disc to write to menu, choose Image File.
+ 5. Choose Properties.
+
+ What happens: In the resulting file selector, the only button down the
+ bottom right of the window is Close. Now if I click that is it going
+ to use the file I just selected, or revert back to what it was before I
+ click it? I know the answer because I have done it 50 odd times now,
+ but it still annoys me every time. Why not Open, Save, Select or

[Bug 572115] Re: Brasero copy to image, select window close button badly named

2010-06-11 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
Thanks for the screenshot. Open would be inappropriate. Choose File
would be a bit better, but not much.

One way of fixing this and the Properties problem would be to merge
the New disc Properties dialog into the main dialog. Then get rid of
the Properties button entirely, instead changing Create Image to
Create Image… and always opening the file picker when you choose it.
Then, the button in the file picker could be simply Burn.

[Bug 366065] Re: Places menu only allows 5 items before changing its behaviour

2010-06-11 Thread Vish
Thank you for bringing this bug to our attention. However, a paper cut
should be a small usability issue, in the default Ubuntu install, that
affects many people and is quick and easy to fix. So this bug can't be
addressed as part of this project.

- Closing papercut task , we already increased the limit to 8 bookmarks. Making
it configurable is a feature request and not a papercut
For further information about papercuts criteria, please read
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PaperCut.

Don't worry though, this bug has been marked as Invalid only in the
papercuts project.

be able to navigate folders with .svg files in them.
Unless there is some way to specifically avoid preview of svg files, that is

Re: [Bug 439448] Re: visual corruption affecting several panel applets

Sorry, had to blame my broken english: it's that they have the same problem

 Bug description:
Binary package hint: gnome-panel, nm-applet, etc...

 SUMMARY:

After graphical logon notification area gets scrambled. Icons are in
terrible mess. Some of them are overlapping others. Sometimes network
manager icon is missing. Sometimes phantom icons show up. They can be clones
of any other icons in the notification area. Bug affects any graphics card:
 ATI, nVidia, Intel...

WAY TO FIX IT FOR THE CURRENT SESSION:

When you get your icons distorted right-click on the affected panel (not
icons) click Properties. In Panel Properties change panel orientation to
Left or Right and back to Top or Bottom. In my case all icons are
displayed properly, but one (nm-applet) is missing.

 WORKAROUND 2:

Right click the Gnome panel and remove the offending applets and re-add
 them, i.e. Indicator Applet, etc.

PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU ADD YOUR COMMENT/SCREENSHOT:

Please take a look at the list of duplicate bugs. Please think on how many

[Bug 590650] Re: nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV in g_closure_invoke()

2010-06-11 Thread Cesare Mastroianni

Thank You for Your help.

I run nautilus from inside valgrind. The system became so
sloow that it was actually not usable. I spent minutes to open a
folder, then minutes to navigate to a sub-folder. Actually I'm not able
to reproduce the real crash situation in this way.

Before closing, valgrind itself crashed or something related to valgrind
crashed, generating the file /var/crash/_usr_lib_valgrind_memcheck-
amd64-linux.1000.crash

So I don't know how to go on with this issue.

[Bug 592592] [NEW] Brightness adjustment doesn't work for HP ProBook 4720s

2010-06-11 Thread jerico
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

I've got an HP ProBook 4720s with the latest gnome-power-manager installed
(lucid). I've got the following problems:
- the brightness up/down buttons have no effect
- the brightness adjustment applet has no effect and does not correctly display
the current brightness
- the brightness adjustment on ac power online/offline events does not work.

I believe that the problem lies in the actual adjustment of brightness and not
in the correct recognition of the hardware event:
- I can manually read and adjust brightness by reading/writing from/to
/proc/acpi/video/DGFX/LCD/brightness.
- I can attach a script to the brightness up/down key events via Gnome Keyboard
Shortcuts
- I get a correct HAL event via halevt daemon
- I get a correct key name mapping when looking at proc/input/event8 via keymap
- I don't get an output when running gnome-power-manager in verbose mode and
pressing the brightness up/down keys

Unfortunately I'm not a HAL/udev/acpi specialist. I've tried to track
this problem down as far as I could. But now I'm stuck. Anything more I
can do for you to find/fix the root cause of the problem?

[Bug 554221] Re: terminal is closing while under another window

2010-06-11 Thread Rudolf
I can confirm this problem:
1. it occured with 9.10 and after upgrade to 10.04 it's still there
2. with visual effects normal, the problem is gone and with visual effects
none it happens again.

Using 10.04 32bit (german), fglrx, gnome-terminal and any other program (gedit,
firefox).
The Gtk-CRITICAL message mentioned above appears after starting
gnome-terminal with any visual effects.

But here's an interesting fact:

- set visual effects normal
- start gnome-terminal, maximize the window (double-click on titlebar)
- start gedit, maximize the window (if not maximized already)
- set visual effects to none
- switch to gnome-terminal
- switch to gedit
- click window-close icon of gedit window

result: gedit window closed, gnome-terminal still there (tested 4 times,
worked 4 times)

Seems as if the window keeps something from visual effects settings!?
