Re: [Bug 984615] Re: Wrong syndaemon settings in system settings

Two new data points: in xfce, the mouse will freeze and never come back after 1 or 2 minutes from login. The problem does not manifest in KDE, which seems to argue against the idea I'd had that this might be an fglrx problem. Gnome classic and Gnome shell both seem to not fully load, leaving me with a blank Ubuntu desktop. No idea what went wrong there, or when. My next step will be to run off the live cd for a while and see if everything behaves properly there. If it does, I'll try a reinstall and run for a while with the Free xorg driver and see how it goes, then try installing fglrx from jockey (haven't really been following related bugs, but maybe it's been sorted in the last week or two) and see if the problem shows up. This is probably an edge case, so don't lose any sleep over it. If I find a cause, I'll let you know. Since KDE is unaffected, the mouse freezes in xfce, and Gnome Shell and Classic both have problems, I'm thinking something just got hosed in GTK somewhere and a reinstall might be the best solution. Re: [Bug 876897] Re: Changing Default Application for Music/Video/Photos has no effect on some registered types
Thank you for your email! Actually there is such an option, just at another place. When you right click on the file and go to properties, there is a tab called Open with it lists a number of applications and you can choose one and click on Set as default. In my option this does suffice. Having a global option, as in the bug I opened (which is a duplicate of another bug), I think would make it even more user-friendly. Otherwise I don't see the use of having the Default setting control panel under settings, when that setting doesn't have any effect. [Bug 986248] [NEW] Nautilus tree view won't collapse right after expand
Public bug reported: When using the tree view in the sidebar in Nautilus, if you click on the triangle next to a folder to expand it and keep the pointer over the triangle, no amount of additional clicking on the triangle will then collapse the folder. However, if you briefly move the mouse off of the triangle (even just slightly) and then back onto the triangle, you can then collapse the folder again. This is annoying when you want to quickly expand a folder to see its subfolders and then immediately collapse again. Attached is a screen recording showing the problem. Although you cannot tell from the video, when I am holding the pointer over the triangle next to the expanded folder, I am repeatedly clicking on it, but nothing is happening -- then as soon as I move the pointer away and back again, clicking does collapse the folder. [Bug 908670] Re: [network]: gnome-control-center crashed with SIGSEGV in panel_get_strongest_unique_aps()
I'll go guessing wildly there, but I think this is all due to just how g-c-c is getting the AP list. The list is first populated, then re- processes to get SSIDs. At any point in time during the reprocessing, if an APs signal was low enough that it disappeared from the scan results since it was added to the AP list used by g-c-c, trying to get its SSID will return a NULL GByteArray object. [Bug 986269] [NEW] Nautilus pops browser on bash partition mount
Public bug reported: I first noticed this behaviour in Ubuntu 11.10. When I run my bash script that mounts partitions on my hard drive (e.g /dev/sda5), Nautilus pops up with a browser window. This is an illogical action, since I've not 'inserted a drive', it's already there, and it's just been manually mounted. This Nautilus action will interfere with the scripts operation since, when the script tries to unmount the drive (rapidly) it finds that Nautilus is still busy with it, producing it's browser window. You wouldn't expect this if you mount a partition from the terminal - and for the most part this is correct (Nautilus does nothing), but not all the time. I've managed to trigger Nautilus to pop just with a simple terminal mount. I have a workaround in my bash script that creates a udev rule and runs udevadm trigger to hide the partition, but this seems extreme. I believe it's a bug in Nautilus in how it responds to the signal that a partition has been mounted. Please see this for complete details and discussion of possible solutions (and the bash script code): http://askubuntu.com/questions/121569/prevent-nautilus-showing- partition-mounted-in-bash-script I understand you can prevent Nautilus responding to inserted drives etc., but this is definitely not the case here - the drive is already there, just the partition is being mounted. ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/986269 Title: Nautilus pops browser on bash partition mount To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/986269/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 986275] Re: eog segmentation faults on standard input
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the crash report you wish to submit. If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with 'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding. ** Changed in: eog (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Low ** Changed in: eog (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to eog in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/986275 Title: eog segmentation faults on standard input To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/eog/+bug/986275/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

It never really hung for me. What happened was that the ubiquity tread used all the CPU it could get and start eating up all the memory.
