[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1005403] [NEW] Brasero is a mess, does not burn properly, fails and can't eject??
Public bug reported: Brasero is a total mess, it doesn't work. After it makes me wait forever to burn a disk it says its !00% done, it then states that an error occured while burning and some file smay be corrupted...which of course they are. It has cost me at leat 20-30 dvd's so far. On top of that it can't even eject a dvd? The eject issue happens EVERYTIME I burn something and the error message happens about 80-90% of the time. I see now many other have the same problem. ** Affects: brasero (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to brasero in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1005403 Title: Brasero is a mess, does not burn properly, fails and can't eject?? [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1004418] Re: Install button and progress indicator is not prominent enough
Thanks for taking the time to report this issue. As of the waiting for synaptic to exit notification not being prominent enough, there is a bug reported already, see bug #668846, so let's keep this issue for the layout changes (larger install button, progress indicator, etc) ** Changed in: software-center (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Low -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to software-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1004418 Title: Install button and progress indicator is not prominent enough Status in “software-center” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Ubuntu Software Center Version 5.2.1 The Install button is dwarfed by the package information and description. The install button and progress indicators could be as large as the package name, and perhaps slightly higher than it is now. With Synaptic, it's much easier to tell that something is happening. Great example: I'm installing Skype right now and the little orange progress bar isn't moving. It's not completely clear that it IS a progress bar, since it doesn't have any label, no percentage and no progress message. I finally wonder if clicking on the Progress menu item above it might do something. And sure enough, it tells me that in fact, there will be no progress in the foreseeable future. It's waiting for Synaptic to exit -- except that it never told me that I needed to exit Synaptic. While Synaptic says loud and bold that a conflicting instance is running and it won't do anything until I stop it. Unfortunately haven't found a fix no. My laptop has 3 outputs when the HDMI is plugged in (HDMI, Speakers, Headphones), I tried to switch between speakers and headphones when the HDMI cable wouldn't be plugged, but that didn't fix anything. Even trying to select it the internal speakers as output doesn't solve this problem, still no sound in flash. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1005504] [NEW] Libreoffice writer: no horizontal spacing of labels
Public bug reported: Please see screenshot. From Writer, I chose new-labels and then chose the Avery letter-sized template 5167 to print out some address labels. The settings shown look correct for the physical sheet, but the layout shown (test test test) and its printed version have no spacing at all between the columns. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1005510] [NEW] yelp steals focus, cannot be killed, hogs system
Public bug reported: When opened from certain applications (eg grsync and terminal) but not others (eg nautilus and gedit), the yelp window stays empty, steals focus (forces itself on forground) and cannot be force killed. The system becomes unusable, although everything seems to continue working. CPU load increases dramatically, Xorg is the main culprit Only solution to get control back over the system is a Alt-SysRq-REISUB reboot. Nothing relevant in .xsession-errors; i have no idea where to look or what to look for in other logs Should i file a bug? Yelp? Xorg? Anyone else with this problem? Please help... Here's a video showing what the problem is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZgH4BmdF4iEfeature=youtu.be I'll be happy to provide log entries, upon request. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 878993] Re: x.org lockup after dragging archived file to desktop
I'd like to confirm the weird behavior reported by kjoe in posts #23 and #25. In fact, kjoe, this weird every second time behavior seems to happen on a per target basis. Try dnd-extracting to target1 (e.g., desktop), target 2 (some folder), target 1, target 2, and so on, without striving the other target with the mouse in between the individual trials (place your windows accordingly). When I did that, using file-roller, I got Crash (on target 1), Crash ( on target 2), Success (t1), Success (t2), Crash (t1), Crash (t2) and so forth. Can this be confirmed? Side note: The bug has been reported at pcmanfm bugtracker already (http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detailaid=3496591group_id=156956atid=801864). They indicate that the actual bug is originated within pcmanfm, whereas the X-blocking is due to the way file-roller is handling the error situation. Since there is no X-block when using xarchiver instead of file-roller, this sounds logical to me. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to file-roller in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/878993 Title: x.org lockup after dragging archived file to desktop Status in PCManFM - File Manager: Unknown Status in “file-roller” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Status in “pcmanfm” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: 1 - Description: Ubuntu 11.10 Release:11.10 2 - file-roller: Installed: 3.2.0-0ubuntu1 Candidate: 3.2.0-0ubuntu1 Version table: *** 3.2.0-0ubuntu1 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ oneiric/main i386 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 3 - I was trying to extract a file with fileroller. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 969359] Re: gnome-settings-daemon consumes 100% cpu
I had not had any problems of this nature until I tried updating some packages this morning. Then this bug hit me. I was seeing 100% CPU utilization and strace showed a continued access to a futex. Sorry I don't have a package update list since I had to revert the system immediately (it is a production system). The system had previously been updated on May 24th. This update was a new kernel, and some X updates. Sorry I don't have more concrete information to report. I do have VirtualBox installed on this machine, but it was inactive when the bug occurred. I also am using VNC to connect to this computer remotely, and the problem seemed to occur shortly after connecting. Not sure if that is related or not. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/969359 Title: gnome-settings-daemon consumes 100% cpu Status in “gnome-settings-daemon” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in “gnome-settings-daemon” package in Fedora: Unknown Bug description: I don't know how to reproduce this bug, but after varying amounts of normal usage of my laptop, I notice gnome-settings-daemon is consuming 100% (approx) CPU. The problem is that the setup.py tries to parse the version number from the first line of the debian/changelog file, however the first three lines contain a reminder for the developers, and thus it fails while parsing the version number. Almost certainly the old forkbomb bug: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=464111 There are two things different between nautilus gedit versus grsync gnome-terminal: 1) The former use the help: scheme, the latter ghelp: 2) The former use Mallard, the latter DocBook Something is causing Yelp not to recognize these documents, which makes Yelp tell the system to open them, which in turn tells Yelp to open them, ad infinitum. ** Bug watch added: GNOME Bug Tracker #464111 https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=464111 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to yelp in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1005510 Title: yelp steals focus, cannot be killed, hogs system Status in “yelp” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: When opened from certain applications (eg grsync and terminal) but not others (eg nautilus and gedit), the yelp window stays empty, steals focus (forces itself on forground) and cannot be force killed. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1005541] [NEW] Desktop size too large for Unity
You have been subscribed to a public bug: In any recent version of Ubuntu I find this issue. Using 2 1080p monitors next to each other (3840x1080 resolution) is too large for the default virtual desktop size. This was fine in previous versions as it was a quick change of xorg.conf to make the virtual size 4096x4096 but as new releases have come out this change has been harder and harder to make because of changes in how this is handled. What should occur is that the monitor tool should first try to set the resolution to x then, if it finds the virtual size too small, attempt to make it large enough to fit the requested resolution automatically. This is while using a AMD Radeon HD 6970 and any available Ubuntu driver for it. ** Affects: unity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Desktop size too large for Unity https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1005541 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1005510] Re: yelp steals focus, cannot be killed, hogs system
Thank you for your information. Maybe this gets me somewhere. Tried installing 'docbook (which wasn't installed on my system)', no avail Mallard seems not to be a package that can be (re)installed Already tried reinstalling yelp earlier, also no avail It confuses me that the command 'yelp ghelp:gnome-terminal' from cli doesn't trigger the bug, so the problem is in the 'link' between the app and yelp(?) Thunar eventually appears around 20 seconds later (est.), usually accompanied by the following error popup: Launch Error The folder could not be opened Did not receive a reply. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1005312] Re: Shortcuts - shortcuts don't work when application indicators are visible
Not a Unity bug. That's a general issue about how X11 handles things. Not something to be fixed in Unity. ** Changed in: unity (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. Also the chance it occurs is pretty high. * Steps to reproduce Open a windowed app (e.g. firefox) Show desktop using the shortcut ctrl-alt-d Maximize the windowed app again (e.g. firefox) Left click on 'time and date' in the upper right corner (leave the application indicator opened) Show desktop using the shortcut ctrl-alt-d * Expected behavior The windows app is minimized. * Current behavior Nothing happens (the windowed app is not minimized) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/1005312/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1004601] Re: OBEX file browsing extremely slow
If it's slow using nautilus and not from the command-line, then this may be nautilus's handling of displaying the files. Don't forget it needs to do more things than other applications to display even just the list of files. Image thumbnails, etc. ** Package changed: gnome-bluetooth (Ubuntu) = nautilus (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: nautilus (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1004601 Title: OBEX file browsing extremely slow Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: With recent updates to Ubuntu 12.04, OBEX file browsing of Bluetooth devices is working again, but still not quite as well as it was in the 10.x series. This is a Samsung NC-20 working with a Nokia C5. In particular, OBEX file browsing is extremely slow, at least using Nautilus. It was never exactly snappy, but it was nowhere near this slow in Ubuntu 10.10. From the Gnome bluetooth-applet, click the item corresponding to my phone, and pull down Browse Files... . An icon for the phone promptly appears on the desktop. But after this, things grind to a halt. It typically takes a couple of minutes to open a directory, even a directory containing a single directory item. 100% reproducible on this system. Other Bluetooth functions are quite fast. For instance, I browse the web over BT DUN connections, and it feels like a fast modem. Please have a look at this! We're almost there!
