I modified a driver for the Bosto Tablet 22HD and others, this has
been working without problems across the last several releases and
continues to work with 16.04.1 LTS.

When I upgraded to 16.10, pressure readings are lost from all
  applications, X & Y data still visible.

evtest shows correct EV_ data for ABS_X ABS_Y and ABS_PRESSURE, but
  when xinput is used.

  xinput --list --long

The Valuator for pressure is listed, but no changes occur as the tool
is used. The parameters of the Valuator can still be modified using
xinput tweaking tools, but no pressure reported.

All X apps requiring pressure data fail.

I made a fresh install of 16.10, loaded the driver same issue.

I run 16.04.1 LTS, everything fine.
I have others users of my driver code also using 16.04.1 without issue.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1671612] Re: Software app only shows explicitly compatible GNOME Shell extensions

2017-04-01 Thread Jeremy Bicha
** Description changed:

+ Only gnome-shell extensions explicitly marked as compatible with the
+ running gnome-shell version are shown in the Addons category in gnome-
+ software.
+
+ This is a problem when a beta version of gnome- shell is packaged.
+
+ It's a problem when a new gnome-shell version is first released because
+ it takes time for developers to test the extension and mark it as
+ compatible. It's also a problem because gnome-software only checks for
+ extension updates every 7 days.
+
+ Some extensions still work but haven't been updated in a very long time.
+
+ More discussion on the attached GNOME bug, particularly comment 7 and at
+ GNOME bug 776460
+
+
+ Original Bug Report
+ ---
+ Update: This behavior was because gnome-shell was a 3.23 development snapshot
and no extensions at extensions.gnome.org were marked as being explicitly
compatible with that version.
+
GNOME Software 3.22 includes a plugin to show GNOME Shell extensions
  when GNOME Shell is running.

On the home page, click Add-Ons.

Except that the Add-Ons button is not showing up here.

Update: This behavior was because gnome-shell was a 3.23 development snapshot
and no extensions at extensions.gnome.org were marked as being explicitly
compatible with that version.

GNOME Software 3.22 includes a plugin to show GNOME Shell extensions
  when GNOME Shell is running.

On the home page, click Add-Ons.

Except that the Add-Ons button is not showing up here.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1658921] Re: NetworkManager does not manage wired connection

2017-04-01 Thread Sami Olmari
Maybe this behaviour should be tied for example into one installing
ubuntu-desktop package or equivalent? While it is true that for example
in server machine having NetworkManager and it controlling stuff is
generally not wanted behaviour, but when user install ubuntu in "not
official" way, like debootstrap that is needed for "ZFS as root
partition" installation currently, all user has first is base minimum
setup and then if wanted to install ubuntu GUI, one uses basically "apt-
get install ubuntu-desktop"... I think that should be deciding factor to
have NM managing devices or not.

In any way, if NM is managing devices, an update in general should not
change that, or ofcourse other way round too, status quo should stay.

Title:
NetworkManager does not manage wired connection

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
NetworkManager does not manage my wired eth0 connection, no matter how
  I set /etc/network/interfaces or
  /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf

Using ubuntu 16.04, /etc/network/interfaces only managed lo, and
[ifupdown] section of NetworkManager.conf had set managed=false.

With these same settings, after upgrading to ubuntu 16.10, eth0
  appears as unmanaged in nm-applet.

If I modify /etc/network/interfaces and add

  auto eth0
  iface eth0 inet dhcp

And set managed=true in NetworkManager.conf [ifupdown] section, eth0
is still unmanaged despite it does get an IP from DHCP server.

This is happening in my five computers (two laptops and three
  desktops).

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1586539] Re: Major screen flickering in Chromium and Google Chrome

I've done the same here:

Title:
Major screen flickering in Chromium and Google Chrome

Status in X.Org X server:
  Confirmed
Status in xserver-xorg-video-intel package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
On a fresh installation of Ubuntu 16.04 I noticed major screen
flickering issues in Chromium and Google Chrome browsers. Since this
never happened in Ubuntu 15.10 with exactly the same Google Chrome
binary, I believe, bug is caused by something that was added/updated
in 16.04. I came across some discussions where different people
suggested that it is related to new X.Org version.

Here's a video to show what is happening:
  https://youtu.be/l21WsKz3fZc?t=45s

I could fix this flickering with --disable-gpu-compositing switch, but
this slows down page drawing significantly so it can't be considered a
workaround. There is also a Chromium bug report:
  https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=606152, but I
don't think they will fix an Ubuntu-specific bug.

Update: this indeed happens only when browser window is maximized.

  WORKAROUND:

  1. sudo apt-get purge xserver-xorg-video-intel
  2. sudo rm /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf (for those who created
this file before)
  3. reboot

Fingerprint reader doesn't work after suspend

Status in lightdm package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
My fingerprint reader does not work after "waking up" my laptop.
This happens on both fingeprint GUI as well as fprint.
There is a workaround for fprint, fingeprint GUI crashed everytime. Had to
uninstall.

Steps to reproduce when using fprint:
  - go into suspend mode
  - resume
  - lightdm greeter says "swipe your finger…"
  - nothing happens when swiping

  - Wait until time out -

  - lightdm asks for password
  - press enter (without entering any password)
  - lightdm says again "swipe your finger…"
  - now it works

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1678498] [NEW] Resolution options for external monitor are incomplete

2017-04-01 Thread Christopher Barrington-Leigh
Public bug reported:

Usually when I plug in an external monitor (when awake, or before waking
from suspend), my external display is rendered with 1024x768 resolution,
and this is the highest resolution displayed by xrandr:

DP-2 connected 1024x768+1920+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 0mm x
0mm
   1024x768 60.00*
   800x600 60.3256.25
   848x480 60.00
   640x480 59.94

But in fact if I reboot I get the full set of options back (1680x) for that
monitor.

File Properties window doesn't allow interaction with folder

Status in nautilus package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
In Ubuntu 16.10, and the included version of Nautilus, when you right-
click a file and go to Properties, you can only seemingly pull up one
properties window PER folder, as the parent window you were just in is
frozen in time, you can't click anything in it. Essentially making
this a *major* usability issue, because now comparing two files in the
same folder is rather impossible. I'd have to open up that one folder
twice in two separate windows which is completely absurd.

name server. The dnsmasq-base package is installed since it is pulled
in by both network-manager and lxc1, and both NM and libvirt have
  spawned instances of dnsmasq:

Hi everyone ! Same issue here with my HP Envy 13 kaby lake running with
a single Mint boot. Codec Realtek ALC295 too. If I plug my headphones on
a usb audio card everything is fine.

Bug description:
Laptop is HP Pavilion - 15-au118tx. The laptop has B and O play and
the output from speakers are just fine, when using headphones there is
some kind of crackling and popping sound in both ears but prominently
  in the left ear.

The issue happens only when the sound is played, if i reduce the PCM
way low using alsamixer, the effect is minimized but the volume is
also reduced. Increasing the volume in the panel increases the PCM as

Status in poppler-data package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
I reported this bug first with ghostscript
  (http://bugs.ghostscript.com/show_bug.cgi?id=695874), but it is
  apparently a packaging issue.

The general issue is that when there is a CIDF font in a .pdf that is
not embedded in the document, ghostscript will stop processing the
file at that font (see the file attached to the ghostscript bug). The
packaging issue is that CIDF fonts that are not on the system are in
  the default Ubuntu cidfmap file.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1631241] Re: Name resolution stops working after resume from suspend

2017-04-01 Thread Henrik Nilsson
I see this bug marked as "fix released" in January and that it should be
fixed 2.76-4.1, however I only see version 2.76-4 even if I in the
"Software & Updates" settings set my "Ubuntu Software" to download from
"Main Server".

$ apt list dnsmasq
Listing... Done
dnsmasq/yakkety,yakkety 2.76-4 all

or am i misunderstanding something?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1677626] Re: Unity started using gtk-greeter for screen-lock after update (Zesty)

2017-04-01 Thread Khurshid Alam
** Description changed:

After today's update screen-locking suddenly started using gtk-greeter
instead of unity-greeter. It looks similar to the old greeter of gdm
  /gnome-screensaver. I don't even have lightdm-gtk-greeter installed.

  How to reproduce:
  -
  1. Reboot. It uses unity-greeter for login.

  2. Login to unity and press CTRL + ALT + L

  Current Behavior:
  -
It uses gtk-greeter instead of unity-greeter.

  Expected Behavior:

  It should use unity-greeter

  Using dm-tool lock:
  -
- Locks screen with unity greeter, but then after unlocking, it presents
gtk-greeter again, I had to unlock it again to see desktop.
