[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1772542] Re: after waking from sleep i get text radeon error message then return login screen
Thanks Christopher (penalvch) for reply 1) update - sorry I can't accurately or reliably answer 2) crash-files - done, no bug report numbers were given 3) caffeine removed; I updated & rebooted. some testing; no issue. re-installed caffeine & i wasn't asked for any password after resume but the issue of this bug did NOT occur (5 times). Rebooted & I was once again asked for password on resumes; no issues. test 5 sleeps - no issue!! i continued with q5, then q4 & returned to testing. this bug's issue did NOT appear once 5) looking at hibernate & noted SWAP was off! it wasn't using my swap partition, entry added to /etc/fstab then it was.. on hibernate (number of tries) machine appeared to hibernate but it'd boot as if first-boot & didn't continue.. if interested you'll have to examine my longer blog (it includes syslog entries etc). I didn't get any radeon messages on screen & return to greeter that matched my bug report; as i didn't get hibernate to work - ie. different issue I'm assuming... my testing of 5 was a failure sorry ! 4) gnome desktop - reproducible - NOPE - three tries; no issues. all SLEEP-tries were very short, but *NOT* once did it radeon error & return me to lock-screen/greeter which is this bug's issue - hence I couldn't recreate today. // As this comment will only let me upload one file; I'll upload my log of today's testing... It also fails, when configuring the proxy via PAC file (last option in the settings). (Initially reported for version 2.0.0.1+0dfsg-0ubuntu0.6.10 under edgy) TEST CASE (from comment #7): 1. Add proxy to Firefox conntections. - Tools > Options > Advanced > Network. - Click Settings under Connections. - Select Manual proxy configuration and enter valid proxy details to use for HTTP. - Apply settings. 2. Enter a search term in Firefox's address bar, e.g. "query", and press enter. What happens in this situation is Firefox attempts to reach "http://query/;, which of course is non existent. This Ubuntu forums thread talks about the same problem: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1947738 An ordinary user might be puzzled as to why nothing apparently happens when he tries to play some random MP3. Everything is working right, except applying settings related to custom key-bindings. I added following lines my gschema.override file: [org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.media-keys] www='w' email='e' custom-keybindings = ['/org/gnome/settings-daemon/plugins/media-keys/custom-keybinding/custom0'] [org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.media-keys.custom-keybinding:/org/gnome/settings-daemon/plugins/media-keys/custom-keybindings/custom0/] name = 'Launch Gedit' command = 'gedit' binding = 'g' I put my gschema.override file in the '/usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas' directory. After I added these lines, I ran 'glib-compile-schemas /usr/share/glib2.0/schemas' and no error was reported. For testing purposes I created a new user, logged out, and logged in with the new user. In the best case, the custom key-binding were applied automatically, but this has not happened. Other defined key-bindings were applied correctly. In the gnome-control-center's key-bindings tab, the table containing custom shortcuts is empty, containing one row with empty columns. Running 'gsettings list-recursively org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins .media-keys.custom-keybinding:/org/gnome/settings-daemon/plugins /media-keys/custom-keybindings/custom0/' shows, the name, command, and binding key pairs contain empty ('') values. If I manually run following commands, the custom key-binding is created correctly: gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.media-keys.custom-keybinding:/org/gnome/settings-daemon/plugins/media-keys/custom-keybindings/custom0/ name "Launch Gedit" gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.media-keys.custom-keybinding:/org/gnome/settings-daemon/plugins/media-keys/custom-keybindings/custom0/ command "gedit" gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.media-keys.custom-keybinding:/org/gnome/settings-daemon/plugins/media-keys/custom-keybindings/custom0/ binding "g" Am I doing anything wrong when I want to add a custom key-bindings in my schema file, or is 'glib-compile-schemas' really not applying this part from the schema file? ** Changed in: rhythmbox Status: New => Expired -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to rhythmbox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/534553 Title: Rhythmbox visualization freezes when one song finishes and another of the same format starts Status in Rhythmbox: Expired Status in rhythmbox package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: Binary package hint: rhythmbox Rhythm boxes visualization freezes after playing one song. To reproduce: 1. Open rhythmbox and add at least 2 songs to the play queue (some of the tests will need four or five). 2. Turn on the visualization. 3. Wait for the first song to finish playing (or even skip to close to the end). 4. Notice that the visualization freezes, even though the second song has started. 5. Click the visualization button on and off and notice the visualization is still frozen, but changes every time you cycle the visualization button. 6. Clear the play queue and start a song (if one doesn't start automatically). 7. Notice that the visualization runs faster than normal. 8. Close rhythmbox. 9. Repeat steps 1-3, except press the next button right before the end of the first song and notice that visualization doesn't freeze when the next (second) song starts. At the end of this next song, notice the visualization doesn't freeze on the third or any subsequent songs, except between albums. 10. Close rhythmbox. 11. Repeat steps 1-5, stopping with the visualization enabled. 12. Click next. 13. Notice the visualization unfreezes (and of course, you are taken to the next song), and that no subsequent song changes cause the visualization to freeze, except between albums. Now move your mouse to the right edge of the screen, and left click. Instead of grabbing the scroll bar, the mouse will behave as if you had clicked the scrollbar background, i.e. the bar will jump to that position (in Firefox, nothing happens). The problem is that the bar doesn't extend to the right edge, leaving a two pixel margin, but because of Fitts' law, it's much easier to click on the screen edge than the few pixels to the left of it. The cause of this is GtkRange::trough-border being set to 2. Setting it to 0 removes the margin around the bar. Install Ubuntu. 2. Insert a standard movie DVD. What happens: * In Ubuntu 10.10 and earlier, "An error occurred" - "Could not read from resource." * In Ubuntu 11.10, "An error occurred" - "Could not read DVD. This may be because the DVD is encrypted and a DVD decryption library is not installed." Without libdvdcss2, Totem, VLC, and others are unable to play my original DVD-s. I know it's illegal to ship Ubuntu with libdvdcss2, but it could be in multiverse repos, and totem's plugin installer could install it, OR add the medibuntu repo to the list (but leave unchecked), then Totem's plugin installer should give a hint, to use that repo's libdvdcss2 to play your DVDs. Newbies wont find out how to solve this problem by theirself, go back to win, and then it will be harder to solve the bug #1 :) Not to be confused with: * bug 502426, where DVDs don't play when libdvdcss is installed * bug 745515, "An error occured location not found" while trying to play a DVD * bug 747433, "Totem cannot play this type of media DVD because it does not have the appropriate plugins to be able to read from this disc" To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/totem/+bug/137527/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Set download location of podcasts to X 2. Download a podcast 3. Check the properties and see the filepath of the podcast 4. Set download location of podcasts to Y 5. Check filepath of podcast and notice that it hasn't changed, file is now unplayable Perhaps more unsettling is the fact that by changing the podcast download location, the originally downloaded podcasts aren't moved as well. I understand this is because it's the "podcast DOWNLOAD location", but why isn't there a podcast search path? Does rhythmbox rely on metadata in the MP3 file or on its own database to know if a file is considered a podcast? Either way, I moved the podcast directory (as my home folder was filling up), and now I don't even have the option of manually changing the locations of the files (can't edit filepath in properties dialogue). It is not case sensitive (unless you use a case sensitive locale, e.g. LANG=C), but sorts alphabetically. Nautilus sorts the files in a bizarre order, regardless of which locale is used. Weird behaviours include: * Longer but otherwise equal filenames sort before shorter ones * Sometimes ignores runs of zeros, but not punctuation * Seems to detect runs of digits and sort them at the end The actual behaviour is very complex and difficult to predict, though it must follow some internal logic. The end result is that files don't sort in any reasonable order. This also impacts some other applications, such as Eye of Gnome. Others, like Transmission, respect locale. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1772117] Re: xorg server
Jean Marc trony, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, this report didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html and https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs . We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures At a minimum, we need: 1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem, 2. The behavior you expected, and 3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). Thank you for your help. ** Tags added: bios-outdated-3.24 ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Low ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1772117 Title: xorg server Status in xorg package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: x11 ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 16.04 Package: xorg 1:7.7+13ubuntu3 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.4.0-124.148-generic 4.4.117 Uname: Linux 4.4.0-124-generic i686 .tmp.unity_support_test.0: ApportVersion: 2.20.1-0ubuntu2.17 Architecture: i386 BootLog: CompizPlugins: No value set for `/apps/compiz-1/general/screen0/options/active_plugins' CompositorRunning: compiz CompositorUnredirectDriverBlacklist: '(nouveau|Intel).*Mesa 8.0' CompositorUnredirectFSW: true Date: Fri May 18 22:55:35 2018 DistUpgraded: Fresh install DistroCodename: xenial DistroVariant: ubuntu ExtraDebuggingInterest: Yes GraphicsCard: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:2a42] (rev 07) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Lenovo Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller [17aa:20e4] Subsystem: Lenovo Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller [17aa:20e4] InstallationDate: Installed on 2016-10-19 (576 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 16.04 LTS "Xenial Xerus" - Release i386 (20160420.1) MachineType: LENOVO 6475AG9 PccardctlIdent: Socket 0: no product info available PccardctlStatus: Socket 0: no card ProcEnviron: LANGUAGE=fr_FR PATH=(custom, no user) LANG=fr_FR.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-4.4.0-124-generic root=UUID=f2c844dc-cf64-4e07-87c5-50617f11c61e ro quiet splash vt.handoff=7 SourcePackage: xorg UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) dmi.bios.date: 09/24/2008 dmi.bios.vendor: LENOVO dmi.bios.version: 7UET46WW (1.16 ) dmi.board.name: 6475AG9 dmi.board.vendor: LENOVO dmi.board.version: Not Available dmi.chassis.asset.tag: L002843 dmi.chassis.type: 10 dmi.chassis.vendor: LENOVO dmi.chassis.version: Not Available dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnLENOVO:bvr7UET46WW(1.16):bd09/24/2008:svnLENOVO:pn6475AG9:pvrThinkPadT400:rvnLENOVO:rn6475AG9:rvrNotAvailable:cvnLENOVO:ct10:cvrNotAvailable: dmi.product.name: 6475AG9 dmi.product.version: ThinkPad T400 dmi.sys.vendor: LENOVO version.compiz: compiz 1:0.9.12.3+16.04.20180221-0ubuntu1 version.libdrm2: libdrm2 2.4.83-1~16.04.1 version.libgl1-mesa-dri: libgl1-mesa-dri 17.2.8-0ubuntu0~16.04.1 version.libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental: libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental N/A version.libgl1-mesa-glx: libgl1-mesa-glx 17.2.8-0ubuntu0~16.04.1 version.xserver-xorg-core: xserver-xorg-core 2:1.18.4-0ubuntu0.7 version.xserver-xorg-input-evdev: xserver-xorg-input-evdev 1:2.10.1-1ubuntu2 version.xserver-xorg-video-ati: xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:7.7.0-1 version.xserver-xorg-video-intel: xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.99.917+git20160325-1ubuntu1.2 version.xserver-xorg-video-nouveau: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau 1:1.0.12-1build2 xserver.bootTime: Fri May 18 22:36:56 2018 xserver.configfile: default xserver.devices: xserver.logfile: /var/log/Xorg.0.log xserver.outputs: xserver.version: 2:1.18.4-0ubuntu0.7 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1772117/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1772386] Re: message - Low Graphics mode - about 2/3 of startups - not all
Roger Davis, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. 1) Could you please after which update specifically and when did this issue start to happen? 2) If you boot into previous kernels is this issue reproducible? 3) To see if this is already resolved in your release, could you please update your HWE stack as per https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/LTSEnablementStack and advise to the results? ** Tags added: bios-outdated-100 regression-update ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Low ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1772386 Title: message - Low Graphics mode - about 2/3 of startups - not all Status in xorg package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: After a recent update (kernel?), I have begun to occasionally receive the message "Running in Low Graphics Mode" at boot (maybe half the time). I can tell it to use Default setting from the options it offers, and get by it, after which things look and work normally until a reboot, which may or may not occur correctly. I also usually get "System error detected, Report? at the same time, so I agree to report it. Please note that I'm using 16.04 (fully updated), Gnome Flashback Metacity, with [AMD/ATI] Cape Verde PRO [Radeon HD 7750/8740 / R7 250E] . Using x-diagnose, I selected all options under both Debug and Workarounds. After this, all works normally every time. However, I take this as a crutch, not a fix, and think other action should be taken Selecting "View Errors" shows no errors, so I never tried reporting from that point. This gives me a presumption that there is a bug in coding that interacts badly with my system and a few others like it, which I encountered in my search for a solution. If I start typing right away, I can locate the first instance of a song title that contains that letter/word/phrase (e.g. if I type "you", my cursor goes to "You Shook Me All Night Long" by AC-DC). This is ineffective because this seems to offer no advantages over focusing "search" immediately but does suffer from a few disadvantages. I noticed that instead of ending in .mp3, they now ended in something like .mp3?nvb=20080529153807=20080530153807=05dbec74736273c29b971 The addition of the question mark and other tags at the end appears to cause problems with some multimedia applications. I have to manually search every downloaded podcast folder for files with "broken" extensions and rename them before they will transfer correctly, using gtkpod, to my ipod. This doesn't consistently happen to ALL of my podcast feeds and I have looked at the feeds that do exhibit this behavior and the enclosures don't list this extra information at the end the the podcast mp3 or ogg file. Some podcast feeds that exhibit this behavior include. This is not an exhaustive list as I deleted a few that exhibited this behavior that I no longer follow anyway: * Pauldotcom Security Weekly, http://pauldotcom.com/podcast/psw.xml, it appears that they host their media files on libsyn.com * Redmonk Radio, http://feeds.feedburner.com/RedmonkRadio, it appears that they host their media files on libsyn.com * Software Engineering Radio, http://se-radio.net/rss (this actually redirects to a feedburner feed), it appears that they host their media files on libsyn.com * The Java Posse, http://feeds.feedburner.com/javaposse, it appears that they also host their media files on libsyn.com Of the current feeds that had new episodes to download, it looks like all of the ones that are having this problem host their media files on libsyn.com. I don't know if that makes any difference, but I found it odd that it seemed to be a common factor. I thought that the issue might a feedburner.com feed issue (and it still might be), but the Pauldotcom Security podcast doesn't appear (as far as I could tell) to use a feedburner feed and yet still has the problem with the extra garbage at the end of its media file extensions. I don't whether this problem is specific to armel or to certain display driver / resolution combinations. I haven't seen any similar problem on recent x86 versions of firefox yet, but maybe I haven't managed to reproduce the required set of circumstances. See the attached examples * firefox-1.png (http://www.yahoo.com/) - see the redundant horizontal scrollbar on the lefthand sidebar in the web page, and the scrollbars on the "Today's top searches" box -- if you scroll the top searches box right you just see white space. * firefox-2.png (http://www.ubuntu.com/) - see the "Ubuntu cloud computing" logo in the top right.
