[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1772542] Re: after waking from sleep i get text radeon error message then return login screen

2018-05-24 Thread Chris Guiver
Thanks Christopher (penalvch) for reply

1) update - sorry I can't accurately or reliably answer

2) crash-files - done, no bug report numbers were given

3) caffeine removed; I updated & rebooted.

some testing; no issue. re-installed caffeine & i wasn't asked for any
password after resume but the issue of this bug did NOT occur (5
times).

Rebooted & I was once again asked for password on resumes; no issues.

test 5 sleeps - no issue!! i continued with q5, then q4 & returned to testing.
this bug's issue did NOT appear once

5) looking at hibernate & noted SWAP was off!
it wasn't using my swap partition, entry added to /etc/fstab then it was..

on hibernate (number of tries) machine appeared to hibernate but it'd
boot as if first-boot & didn't continue.. if interested you'll have to
examine my longer blog (it includes syslog entries etc). I didn't get
any radeon messages on screen & return to greeter that matched my bug
report; as i didn't get hibernate to work - ie. different issue I'm
assuming...

my testing of 5 was a failure sorry !

4) gnome desktop - reproducible - NOPE - three tries; no issues.

all SLEEP-tries were very short, but *NOT* once did it radeon error & return me
to lock-screen/greeter which is this bug's issue - hence I couldn't recreate
today.

// As this comment will only let me upload one file; I'll upload my log of
today's testing... I've created copies of my /var/log/syslog (& syslog.1)
which i can provide (covers may 22 09:40 to before this comment)

attached : my walkthru of testing (warning - wordy; but lots of pastes..)

my box is 18.04 (was 17.10 installed; standard Ubuntu with MATE & XFCE
  desktops added)

I sleep my XFCE (xubuntu) machine rather than turning it off at night.

Today as with yesterday morning, instead of getting the locker-screen
after hitting the power-button to wake my machine, i get a blank
screen with a RADEON two-line text message top left on screen which
appear only momentarily as screen is erased and I get the
  login/greeter screen.

(it's happened 4-5 times, but does NOT happen every time)

I can login fine, but my xfce session is new.

I have grep'd for the message I see (yesterday & today), but can't
find it as i usually recall little but the radeon word...

Ubuntu 9.10, firefox 3.5.3 is unable to print bold Chinese sans
  characters.

  Steps to duplicate:
  1. if you set desktop language to Chinese, ttf-wqy-zenhei will be
automatically installed as the default Sans Serif font, if you use other
languages, simply install ttf-wqy-zenhei via atp-get first

  2. in firefox, select Edit\Preference\Content\Font & Color, select the
  default font as "sans-serif"

  3. browse any Chinese web page with bold face, for example
  http://forum.ubuntu.org.cn/

  4. print page

  Expected results:
the emboldened titles shall be printed in bold face

  Actual results:
both the titles and text are printed with the same weight. English bold
characters look fine on the print though.
Bold Chinese characters prints ok with OpenOffice 3.1.1

On occasion while typing into a form field in firefox (search field,
url field, webpage form field), after typing a few characters, the
browser will automatically highlight the previously entered
characters, causing my subsequently entered keystrokes to overwrite
the previously entered keystrokes. I cannot reproduce this behavior

When Firefox crashes (which is regrettably all too frequently) and is
restarted into the saved session, all tabs which were open to a site
whose certificate is not permanently accepted will be displaying the
  "Untrusted Connection" screen.

Once I have gone through the "I Understand The Risks" dance in one of
those tabs, all tabs affected by the acceptance of the certificate
need to be reloaded by hand (find each, and press ctrl-R).

I would like for all those tabs to reload automatically when the
  certificate is accepted.

I have taken the habit to not check the "Permanently store this
exception" box as a reminder to myself to report problems with
certificates. I acknowledge that this is fringe behavior; but I also
believe it would be moderately easy to implement the proposed fix.

Firefox address bar search displays proxy error page for single word
  queries

Status in Mozilla Firefox:

Bug description:
The problems transpire when searching for single words using the
  address bar in Firefox.

When I have Firefox proxy settings set to "Auto Detect" this feature works
fine.
(Q: is the proxy being used then?)

When explicitly setting the proxy settings in Firefox this fails sending me
to http://query/ (displaying the proxy's error page).
It also fails, when configuring the proxy via PAC file (last option in the
settings).

(Initially reported for version 2.0.0.1+0dfsg-0ubuntu0.6.10 under edgy)

  TEST CASE (from comment #7):
  1. Add proxy to Firefox conntections.
  - Tools > Options > Advanced > Network.
  - Click Settings under Connections.
  - Select Manual proxy configuration and enter valid proxy details to use
for HTTP.
  - Apply settings.
  2. Enter a search term in Firefox's address bar, e.g. "query", and press
enter.

What happens in this situation is Firefox attempts to reach
"http://query/;, which of course is non existent.

What should happen normally is "query" is searched with Google.

  3) I expect to be able to right click on an album in the Album view
and select, "burn" or "create cd" or something like that.

  4) Right clicking on the album does nothing. I had to know to use
the shift key to select every song in the album and then right click
the selected list and choose Add to playlist -> New Playlist, give it
a name, find the playlist in the far left list, right click on that
and select Create Audio CD. Once it was done i had to also remove
this playlist to get back to the original state.

This seems pretty easy to fix and is not at all intuitive at the
  moment.

In Rhythmbox preferences, if we check "use crossfading backend" we can
choose a duration for crossfading (01-60s.). Another feature enabled
by this check box is the pause button fade effect. but the duration of
this fade is about 1s. and can't be changed in the user interface.

I think 1second fade is too long. Another slider in the preference
could be added under the title : Pause Fade in-out duration. with a
rang of 50-2000 milli-seconds (or something like this)

I'd like to sort or create a playlist like this:

  Is it possible?

On some systems, Rhythmbox can take a very long time (I measured 26

warnings about mDNS not being available. It turns out that when the
"DAAP Music Sharing" plugin is disabled in Rhythmbox settings, both
the warnings and the long delay go away.

This Ubuntu forums thread talks about the same problem:
  http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1947738

An ordinary user might be puzzled as to why nothing apparently happens
when he tries to play some random MP3.

  Some possible solutions:
  - Fix the long delay with the plugin
  - Disable the DAAP plugin by default
  - Give the user some feedback that Rhythmbox is starting and what is causing
the delay

Status in GLib:

Bug description:
  Dear Developers,

I am using the Ubuntu 14.04 development release with the GNOME Shell 3.10
and, because my wife is using this system as well, I defined some settings in a
gschema.override file.
Everything is working right, except applying settings related to custom
key-bindings.

I added following lines my gschema.override file:
  [org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.media-keys]
  www='w'
  email='e'
  custom-keybindings =
['/org/gnome/settings-daemon/plugins/media-keys/custom-keybinding/custom0']

[org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.media-keys.custom-keybinding:/org/gnome/settings-daemon/plugins/media-keys/custom-keybindings/custom0/]
  name = 'Launch Gedit'
  command = 'gedit'
  binding = 'g'

I put my gschema.override file in the '/usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas'
directory. After I added these lines, I ran 'glib-compile-schemas
/usr/share/glib2.0/schemas' and no error was reported.
For testing purposes I created a new user, logged out, and logged in with the
new user. In the best case, the custom key-binding were applied automatically,
but this has not happened. Other defined key-bindings were applied correctly.
In the gnome-control-center's key-bindings tab, the table containing custom
shortcuts is empty, containing one row with empty columns.

  Running 'gsettings list-recursively org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins
  .media-keys.custom-keybinding:/org/gnome/settings-daemon/plugins
/media-keys/custom-keybindings/custom0/' shows, the name, command, and
binding key pairs contain empty ('') values.

If I manually run following commands, the custom key-binding is created
correctly:
  gsettings set
org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.media-keys.custom-keybinding:/org/gnome/settings-daemon/plugins/media-keys/custom-keybindings/custom0/
 name "Launch Gedit"
  gsettings set
org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.media-keys.custom-keybinding:/org/gnome/settings-daemon/plugins/media-keys/custom-keybindings/custom0/
 command "gedit"
  gsettings set
org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.media-keys.custom-keybinding:/org/gnome/settings-daemon/plugins/media-keys/custom-keybindings/custom0/
 binding "g"

Am I doing anything wrong when I want to add a custom key-bindings in
my schema file, or is 'glib-compile-schemas' really not applying this
  part from the schema file?

  Attila

I have the iPod-plugin switched off (it never worked properly for me,
I have to use gtkpod). It worked well till now but if I plug my iPod
(Shuffle, first generation) on my computer, Rhythmbox pops up and
starts to import the music files on my iPod into my library (which
doesn't really work but I think thats a problem on my iPod-
filesystem). The iPod appears in the left column. I don't want
Rhythmbox to interact with my iPod at all. Thanks.

Seems that currently rhythmbox stores song's path as absolute
  filesystem path.

It causes a problem if you store music on volume that needs to be
mounted before use. E.g. I have separate NTFS partition, and in most
cases it gets mounted as /media/disk. But if I have pendrive plugged
in during bootup it gets mounted as /media/disk-1. In this case
rhythmbox can find none of my songs.

The solution could be to store in the rhythmbox's database volume
unique identifier plus relative path on the volume instead of full
  absolute path.

If you have imported a music collection and you get some import errors you
can't delete it directly from the library.
Now you must click on 'import errors' and than select all and delete, and
after that 'import errors' is removed from your library.
It would be a lot nicer if the users could right click on 'import errors' and
than choose delete or ignore.

This is more of a request than a bug. But it makes sense that you
should be able to change the volume while on the logon screen.
Currently my keyboard shortcuts only become active about halfway
through the logon procedure, by which time the Ubuntu startup sound
has blasted out to the whole room.

This shouldn't be too hard to correct I wouldn't have thought, it's
just I have no idea what controls the volume from the keyboard
otherwise I could change the boot sequence myself.

When copying files in Nautilus, the low 3 decimal digits in the copy
are set to zero. In other words, it only preserves 2-microsecond
  resolution.

  Steps to reproduce:
  1. Create a file (on a filesystem supporting nanosecond timestamps) and view
its timestamp:
  username@host:/dev/shm$ touch original-file
  username@host:/dev/shm$ ls --full-time original-file
  -rw-r--r-- 1 username username 0 2010-09-19 07:27:56.463178584 +
original-file

  2. Copy file in Nautilus to the same or another filesystem, and view new
file's timestamp
  # original-file copied to file-nautilus
  username@host:/dev/shm$ ls --full-time file-nautilus
  -rw-r--r-- 1 username username 0 2010-09-19 07:27:56.463178000 +
file-nautilus

Expected result: New file has exactly the same timestamp. For example, cp
--preserve=all works properly:
  username@host:/dev/shm$ cp --preserve=all original-file file-cp
  username@host:/dev/shm$ ls --full-time file-cp
  -rw-r--r-- 1 username username 0 2010-09-19 07:27:56.463178584 + file-cp

Actual result: last 3 digits of copy are 000.

There seems to be some kind of race condition that, given the right
timing, will stop the current song from playing if search results are
  empty.

  To reproduce:
  1) Use an automatic playlist (not sure this is needed)
  2) Play a song from the playlist
  3) Looking at the playlist while playing the song, try searching for
something you don't have
  4) Repeatedly change the search results by changing the search box values
just after the search has been done. One example would be: type "asdf", wait
for some result and quickly do backspace and add some other letteres. Repeat
this a couple of times.

  Result:
Once in a while, it seems to be something with timing and also with empty
search results, the current song will stop playing.

  Expected result:
The current song should not be influenced at all by the kind or number of
search results I get.

Notes: it seems to be some kind of race condition and may or may not
be related to the automatic playlist. Rhythmbox 0.11.5, amd64, Hardy.

Rhythm boxes visualization freezes after playing one song.

  To reproduce:
  1. Open rhythmbox and add at least 2 songs to the play queue (some of the
tests will need four or five).
  2. Turn on the visualization.
  3. Wait for the first song to finish playing (or even skip to close to the
end).
  4. Notice that the visualization freezes, even though the second song has
started.
  5. Click the visualization button on and off and notice the visualization is
still frozen, but changes every time you cycle the visualization button.
  6. Clear the play queue and start a song (if one doesn't start automatically).
  7. Notice that the visualization runs faster than normal.
  8. Close rhythmbox.

  9. Repeat steps 1-3, except press the next button right before the end of the
first song and notice that visualization doesn't freeze when the next (second)
song starts. At the end of this next song, notice the visualization doesn't
freeze on the third or any subsequent songs, except between albums.
  10. Close rhythmbox.

  11. Repeat steps 1-5, stopping with the visualization enabled.
  12. Click next.
  13. Notice the visualization unfreezes (and of course, you are taken to the
next song), and that no subsequent song changes cause the visualization to
freeze, except between albums.

Bug description:
The new scrollbar in Karmic's Human theme has a usability bug:
To reproduce, open nautilus, maximize the window, then open a directory with
enough files to cause the scrollbar to appear (e.g. /lib). Now move your mouse
to the right edge of the screen, and left click. Instead of grabbing the scroll
bar, the mouse will behave as if you had clicked the scrollbar background, i.e.
the bar will jump to that position (in Firefox, nothing happens). The problem
is that the bar doesn't extend to the right edge, leaving a two pixel margin,
but because of Fitts' law, it's much easier to click on the screen edge than
the few pixels to the left of it.

The cause of this is GtkRange::trough-border being set to 2. Setting
it to 0 removes the margin around the bar.

  Environment:
  OS: Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala)
  Package: firefox-3.5 (3.5.8+build1+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.9.10.1)
  Problem:
I print from firefox and change print settings, like select destination
printer, margins, header, footer and so on. In about:config option
'print.save_print_settings' is set to true. Finally do print.
Immediately after previous print I do print again and I suspect to get same
settings (destination printer, margins, header, footer ...) that I set for last
print, but unfortunately I get default print settings (destination printer,
margins, header, footer ...).
All this is happen in same browser session.
Problem also reflect on our extension that we developed for Firefox
(jsPrintSetup https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/8966).
The extension using nsIPrintSettings interface to manage print settings also
encounter problem with select destination printer.
Independently from selected nsIPrintSettings.printerName Firefox always print
to default for operating system printer.

Bug description:

  firefox 2.0.0.6+2-0ubuntu4

I've found that scrolling is slow in all sites (comparing to windows), but
really slower in sites where there is a static image that does not move when I
scroll
  site example:
  http://www.starcraft2.com/
  http://railsdojo.wordpress.com/
  http://www.oakparkfoundation.org/

I think that this .css is the cause of the problem
  body {background-color: #fff;
  background-image: url("images/rubric/gradient.gif");
  background-attachment: fixed;
  background-position: bottom;
  background-repeat: repeat-x; }

this problem is empathized when using compiz.
The problem is present with both radeon and nvidia video cards, even when
compiz is disabled

This problem is less invasive if using firefox downloaded from mozilla.com
(without ubuntu patches) or swiftfox, but it is still present
Scrolling in windows XP is really faster (when I say really I mean at least
10x in the starcraft site, which is the site that has most slowdown problems),
even in sites that does not have a background image

  Other tests
epiphany 2.19.5-0ubuntu1: same slowdown as firefox
konqueror 3.5.7-1ubuntu10: much more reactive in
http://railsdojo.wordpress.com/ and normal sites, but slower in
www.starcraft2.com

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1771539] Re: Xorg crash

2018-05-24 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Mario Costa, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu
better. Please advise to all of the following:

1) Is this something that started to happen after an update? If so,
which and when precisely?

2) To see if this is already resolved in your release, could you please
update your HWE stack as per
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/LTSEnablementStack and advise to the
results?

I loaded a CD, and started playing it with Rhythmbox. Initially it
  was on repeat + shuffle.

After playing 3 tracks, I turned off repeat.

Rhythmbox (randomly) played one of those three tracks, and I skipped
it (since I'd just heard it).

I then listened to the CD until Rhythmbox stopped playing.

I looked at the "play count" for the CD, and one track was never
played, while all the other tracks had a play count of 1.

Title:
Unhelpful response when inserting encrypted DVD in default
  installation

Status in Totem:
  Expired
Status in totem package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
  Ubuntu 4.10, 5.04, 5.10, 6.06, 7.04, 7.10, 8.04, 8.10, 9.04, 9.10,
  10.04, 10.10, 11.04, 11.10, 12.04, 14.04

  1. Install Ubuntu.
  2. Insert a standard movie DVD.

  What happens:
  * In Ubuntu 10.10 and earlier, "An error occurred" - "Could not read from
resource."
  * In Ubuntu 11.10, "An error occurred" - "Could not read DVD. This may be
because the DVD is encrypted and a DVD decryption library is not installed."

Without libdvdcss2, Totem, VLC, and others are unable to play my
original DVD-s. I know it's illegal to ship Ubuntu with libdvdcss2,
but it could be in multiverse repos, and totem's plugin installer
could install it, OR add the medibuntu repo to the list (but leave
unchecked), then Totem's plugin installer should give a hint, to use
that repo's libdvdcss2 to play your DVDs. Newbies wont find out how to
solve this problem by theirself, go back to win, and then it will be
harder to solve the bug #1 :)

  Not to be confused with:
  * bug 502426, where DVDs don't play when libdvdcss is installed
  * bug 745515, "An error occured location not found" while trying to play a DVD
  * bug 747433, "Totem cannot play this type of media DVD because it does not
have the appropriate plugins to be able to read from this disc"

  Hi,

rhythmbox has a problem with windows media ASX streams when using
crossfade backend. It makes a short pause during playback every second
or even more often. Other streams (MP3 etc.) are playing perfectly.
I've tried to change crossfader settings but I can't see any
  coincidence.

My test stream is http://www.polskieradio.pl/st/program3M.asx - it
  works perfectly under VLC.

Rhythmbox should ignore such directories instead and show a message

The 'Genre' column is largely useless by default, and seems to be
  placed in a nonsensical place.

Title - Genre - Artist - Album doesn't make any sense. Title - Artist
  - Album does. If you still want Genre, make it Title - Artist - Album
  - Genre, like iTunes. Otherwise, it is confusing for new users.

Upstream will not be interested in fixing this (he doesn't seemed
concerned with the UI, which is the only area of RBox which I think is
still lacking), but he may be willing to accept a patch.

  Thoughts?

  This is called login spoofing.

Login spoofing can be prevented by using a secure attention key which is a
key combination pressed before the user login to launch the password request

  Steps to reproduce:
  1. Set download location of podcasts to X
  2. Download a podcast
  3. Check the properties and see the filepath of the podcast
  4. Set download location of podcasts to Y
  5. Check filepath of podcast and notice that it hasn't changed, file is now
unplayable

Perhaps more unsettling is the fact that by changing the podcast
download location, the originally downloaded podcasts aren't moved as
well. I understand this is because it's the "podcast DOWNLOAD
location", but why isn't there a podcast search path?

Does rhythmbox rely on metadata in the MP3 file or on its own database
to know if a file is considered a podcast?

Either way, I moved the podcast directory (as my home folder was
filling up), and now I don't even have the option of manually changing
the locations of the files (can't edit filepath in properties
  dialogue).

  Binary package hint: rhythmbox

... which leads to multiple sets of these fields after numerous
  updates.

  Steps to reproduce:
Edit ID3 tags of a fresh mp3-file once in Rhythmbox => UFID field
"http://musicbrainz.org; and some TXXX-fields for MusicBrainz are automatically
created (viewed with eyeD3):

  Unique File ID: [http://musicbrainz.org]
  UserTextFrame: [Description: MusicBrainz Artist Id]
  UserTextFrame: [Description: musicbrainz_artistid]
  UserTextFrame: [Description: MusicBrainz Album Id]
  UserTextFrame: [Description: musicbrainz_albumid]
UserTextFrame: [Description: MusicBrainz Album Artist Id]
  UserTextFrame: [Description: musicbrainz_albumartistid]

Now re-edit tags on the same file and eyeD3 will complain:

Multiple UFID frames not allowed with the same owner ID
  (http://musicbrainz.org)

When I view the file with a hex editor I can see that all the UFID- and
TXXX-tags have been duplicated.
Shouldn't they rather be updated instead?

ls sorts files as one might expect. It is not case sensitive (unless
you use a case sensitive locale, e.g. LANG=C), but sorts
  alphabetically.

Nautilus sorts the files in a bizarre order, regardless of which locale is
used. Weird behaviours include:
  * Longer but otherwise equal filenames sort before shorter ones
  * Sometimes ignores runs of zeros, but not punctuation
  * Seems to detect runs of digits and sort them at the end

The actual behaviour is very complex and difficult to predict, though
it must follow some internal logic. The end result is that files don't
sort in any reasonable order. This also impacts some other
applications, such as Eye of Gnome. Others, like Transmission, respect
  locale.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1771628] Re: Grpahic Drivers

2018-05-24 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Gurjeet, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.
Please advise to all of the following:

1) To clarify, after you get a purple blank screen when putting in
credentials, does it ever get to the desktop environment?

2) Which desktop environments have you tried to log into where this
happens? For example, Ubuntu (Wayland), Unity, etc.

3) Is this something that started to happen after an update? If so,
which and when precisely?

4) After the issue occurs, are there files in the /var/crash folder?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1772117] Re: xorg server

2018-05-24 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Jean Marc trony, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu
better.

Unfortunately, this report didn't include enough information. You may
find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html and
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs . We'd be grateful if you would
then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. The behavior you expected, and
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

Thank you for your help.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1772386] Re: message - Low Graphics mode - about 2/3 of startups - not all

2018-05-24 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Roger Davis, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu
better.

1) Could you please after which update specifically and when did this
issue start to happen?

2) If you boot into previous kernels is this issue reproducible?

3) To see if this is already resolved in your release, could you please
update your HWE stack as per
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/LTSEnablementStack and advise to the
results?

Title:
message - Low Graphics mode - about 2/3 of startups - not all

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
After a recent update (kernel?), I have begun to occasionally receive
the message "Running in Low Graphics Mode" at boot (maybe half the
time). I can tell it to use Default setting from the options it
offers, and get by it, after which things look and work normally until
a reboot, which may or may not occur correctly.

I also usually get "System error detected, Report? at the same time,
so I agree to report it.

Please note that I'm using 16.04 (fully updated), Gnome Flashback
Metacity, with [AMD/ATI] Cape Verde PRO [Radeon HD 7750/8740 / R7
250E] . This problem shows up no matter which of the above I'm using,
  or Unity.

  roger@roger-desktop:~$ uname -a
  Linux roger-desktop 4.4.0-124-generic #148-Ubuntu SMP Wed May 2 13:00:18 UTC

  I have found a WORK-AROUND. Using x-diagnose, I selected all options
under both Debug and Workarounds. After this, all works normally
every time. However, I take this as a crutch, not a fix, and think
  other action should be taken

Selecting "View Errors" shows no errors, so I never tried reporting
  from that point.

This gives me a presumption that there is a bug in coding that
interacts badly with my system and a few others like it, which I
encountered in my search for a solution.

Also, if I simply go to 18.04 (I don't really want to just yet.) will
it likely fix this or might this block or damage the upgrade?

  1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System ->
About Ubuntu
  roger@roger-desktop:~$ lsb_release -rd
  Description: Ubuntu 16.04.4 LTS
  Release: 16.04

  2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy pkgname'
or by checking in Software Center
  roger@roger-desktop:~$ apt-cache policy pkgname
N: Unable to locate package pkgname
ALSO - I'm unable to locate this information in Software Center

  3) What you expected to happen
Normal boot, no errors or problems

  4) What happened instead
"Running in Low Graphics Mode" displayed, along with subsequent "System Error
Detected" messages

I think Firefox would look better and more integrated with gnome if
some of its icons were replaced with gnome defaults:

-the search icon at the right of the search bar could be replaced with
  /usr/share/icons/gnome/16x16/actions/find.png

-the RSS icon in the URL bar could be replaced with the one in
Epiphany, which follows the Tango guidelines. It can be found in
  /usr/share/epiphany-browser/icons/hicolor/16x16/status

-the lockpad icon when you visit a secure webpage could be replaced
  with /usr/share/icons/gnome/16x16/status/security-medium.png or
  security-high.png.

Tried three browser under kubuntu 6.06:

  - with Konqueror if you pass and hold on the mouse on a flash image then
scrolling with mouse scroll stop to work, but keyboard is ok
  - with Firefox scrolling and keyboard stop to work until the mouse moves out
to the flash image
  - with Opera cannot reproduce, seems all ok!

Don't know if they are flash problems or browser problems :)

  Steps to reproduce:

  1. Load a web page in firefox and click File->Print. The Print dialog box
appears.
  2. Choose Print to File from the list of printers
  3. Choose home under Save in folder. (This is always the default selection
for me).
  4. Type a name in the filename box, and hit Print.

  What happens:

The "Printing" dialog box appears, the progress indicator goes up to 100%,
and then it disappears. However, no file is saved
  (because /home/ is not writable).

  What should happen:

A message should appear saying that the file cannot be written to
/home/, and I should be returned to the Print dialog.

Rhythmbox Last.fm plugin only scrobbles first song when listen to

Status in Rhythmbox:

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: rhythmbox

I upgraded to Ubuntu 10.04, and now my Last.fm plugin in Rhythmbox
will only scrobble the first song when I'm listening to Last.fm radio.
Otherwise, it seems to work just fine.

  I'm using rhythmbox 0.12.8-0ubuntu6, rhythmbox-plugins 0.12.8-0ubuntu6

To test it, I just listened to the radio station "Artists similar to
the stills." I listened to these songs:

  Malajube - Jus De Canneberges
Land of Talk - Some Are Lakes
  Two Hours Traffic - Territory
The Most Serene Republic - A Mix of Sun and Cloud
French Kicks - The Trial Of The Century

While the first one was playing, I looked at my profile on last.fm,
  and it said:

Malajube - Jus De CannebergesListening now

When the song finished, it said:

Malajube - Jus De CannebergesJust listened

But none of the other songs ever showed up, either while I was
  listening to them or after.

It looks like other people are having the same problems, but as far as
I can tell, nobody else has filed a bug report:

  http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1477589
  http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1417335
  http://www.last.fm/group/Rhythmbox/forum/8096/_/595864/2#f12485140

I'm also attaching the output of this command, which I ran to do the above
test:
  rhythmbox -D audioscrobbler &> rhythmbox-debug2.txt

It looks like for each song, I get these lines:
  (11:39:10) [0x9d2040] [rb_audioscrobbler_song_changed_cb]
rb-audioscrobbler.c:1146: new entry:
  (11:39:10) [0x9d2040] [rb_audioscrobbler_is_queueable]
rb-audioscrobbler.c:484: entry is queueable

I get that for all songs, even the ones that don't get scrobbled. For the
first song, I also get other lines:
  (11:39:10) [0x9d2040] [rb_audioscrobbler_timeout_cb] rb-audioscrobbler.c:555:

  ...
(the rest is in the log file)

I ran a similar test previously running this command. It gave different
output, so I'm attaching it as well:

When I start Rhythmbox, my "library" pane has focus of the cursor. If
I start typing right away, I can locate the first instance of a song
title that contains that letter/word/phrase (e.g. if I type "you", my
cursor goes to "You Shook Me All Night Long" by AC-DC). This is
ineffective because this seems to offer no advantages over focusing
"search" immediately but does suffer from a few disadvantages. For
example, it does not allow you to immediately search by Artist, Album
title, or Genre. It also does not allow you to pull up multiple
matches for a given term or title. I submit this is a flawed design
(unless you can name some unforeseen reason why the behavior is as
  is).

So I listen to music in Rhythmbox, and I close rhythmbox, or press "stop"
button, and instantly the music stops.
Goes from 80 decibels to 0 decibels in an instant!

  Now, this isn't nice.

Make it instead "fade it out", so the volume goes down to none over the time
of a second.
So it doesn't abrupt so hard. so it caresses my ears...

I have a two screen setup. When using the visualtion plugin, there is
a little combo box for picking which screen to appear on (i dont know
whether this exists or not on a single screen setup). Having the
visualisation running in fullscreen, and then switching the option to
change screens doesnt work correctly. There are at least 2 ways it
fails, on switch on my setup will cause the window to move to the
correct screen, but it wont be fullscreen, and the visualistaion
becomes invisible. Switching the other way just causes nothing to
  happen.

However it is possible to workaround by switching to embedded mode and
  back to fullscreen.

I imported some MP3s without first adding MP3 support for gstreamer.
RB's library now includes an "Import Errors" section. A list of
specific errors appears when I select that section. In the list of
specific errors, there is a red+white icon next to each error.
Clicking on that icon presents an error dialog with the text,
"Playback error. The GStreamer plugins to decode "MP3" files could not
  be found."

If you click that red+white icon several times (such as by
inadvertently double-clicking it), you get multiple copies of the
dialog onscreen. There should only be one copy of that dialog onscreen
at any given time; presenting multiple identical dialogs is one of the
most frustrating things a computer can do to a user.

Version table:
   *** 0.11.5-0ubuntu6 0

Ever since upgrading to Hardy Heron (8.04), some Rhythmbox (which I also used
in Gutsy 7.10) downloaded podcast media files wouldn't transfer to gtkpod. I
noticed that instead of ending in .mp3, they now ended in something like
.mp3?nvb=20080529153807=20080530153807=05dbec74736273c29b971

The addition of the question mark and other tags at the end appears to
cause problems with some multimedia applications. I have to manually
search every downloaded podcast folder for files with "broken"
extensions and rename them before they will transfer correctly, using
  gtkpod, to my ipod.

This doesn't consistently happen to ALL of my podcast feeds and I have
looked at the feeds that do exhibit this behavior and the enclosures
don't list this extra information at the end the the podcast mp3 or
  ogg file.

Some podcast feeds that exhibit this behavior include. This is not an
exhaustive list as I deleted a few that exhibited this behavior that I no
longer follow anyway:
  * Pauldotcom Security Weekly, http://pauldotcom.com/podcast/psw.xml, it
appears that they host their media files on libsyn.com

  * Redmonk Radio, http://feeds.feedburner.com/RedmonkRadio, it appears
that they host their media files on libsyn.com

  * Software Engineering Radio, http://se-radio.net/rss (this actually
redirects to a feedburner feed), it appears that they host their media
  files on libsyn.com

  * The Java Posse, http://feeds.feedburner.com/javaposse, it appears
that they also host their media files on libsyn.com

Of the current feeds that had new episodes to download, it looks like
all of the ones that are having this problem host their media files on
libsyn.com. I don't know if that makes any difference, but I found it
odd that it seemed to be a common factor.

I thought that the issue might a feedburner.com feed issue (and it
still might be), but the Pauldotcom Security podcast doesn't appear
(as far as I could tell) to use a feedburner feed and yet still has
the problem with the extra garbage at the end of its media file
  extensions.

It appears you're still using lightdm that is not part of bionic.

It was part of xenial though, so that must be a leftover from the
upgrade.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1773244] Re: gnome-shell using high cpu

2018-05-24 Thread Daniel van Vugt
We're tracking a few bugs similar to this.

Please start by removing your extensions and see if the problem goes
away:

b'org.gnome.shell' b'enabled-extensions' b"['dash-to-
d...@micxgx.gmail.com', 'appindicatorsupp...@rgcjonas.gmail.com',
'netsp...@hedayaty.gmail.com', 'openweather-extens...@jenslody.de',
'topic...@phocean.net', 'user-theme@gnome-shell-
extensions.gcampax.github.com', 'apps-menu@gnome-shell-
extensions.gcampax.github.com', 'window-list@gnome-shell-
extensions.gcampax.github.com', 'TaskBar@zpydr']"

If that doesn't solve the problem then please let us know which apps (if
any) are running when the gnome-shell CPU usage is high.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 515725] Re: Firefox XSL Zoom

Title:
  Firefox XSL Zoom

Status in Mozilla Firefox:
  Unknown
Status in firefox package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: firefox

Produced on Ubuntu 9.10 using Firefox 3.5.7 (3.5.7+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.9.10.1).
Also produced on Ubuntu 9.10 using Firefox 3.7a1

  Steps:
  0. Reset Firefox zoom. (View -> Zoom -> Reset)
  1. Go to page that uses XSL. Example,
http://devedge-temp.mozilla.org/community/rss/index_en.xml
  (page should render correctly)
  2. Zoom in. (View > Zoom > Zoom In)
  3. Reload the page (View > Reload)

The page is not viewed as before (correctly) and scroll bars are
missing. This affects both, horizontal and vertical, scroll bars.
Zooming out also causes display issues, such as elements of the page
  repeating.

  Temporary Workaround:
  1. Reset Firefox Zoom
  2. Refresh page
  3. Page should be displayed correctly again

Bug description:
If a user disables menu icons, most applications reflect the change
immediately. However, Firefox needs to be restarted before the change
takes place. This can give the impression that Firefox is not honoring
  the setting.

This has been confirmed with Firefox 3.7 on Ubuntu 10.04

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: firefox-3.5

Firefox inappropriately adds scroll bars to many frames and images,
causing many pages to look ugly / broken.

I don't whether this problem is specific to armel or to certain
display driver / resolution combinations. I haven't seen any similar
problem on recent x86 versions of firefox yet, but maybe I haven't
managed to reproduce the required set of circumstances.

  See the attached examples
 * firefox-1.png (http://www.yahoo.com/) - see the redundant horizontal
scrollbar on the lefthand sidebar in the web page, and the scrollbars on the
"Today's top searches" box -- if you scroll the top searches box right you just
see white space.
 * firefox-2.png (http://www.ubuntu.com/) - see the "Ubuntu cloud
computing" logo in the top right.
