[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1900906] Re: Can't use dead keys or input e.g. Chinese characters in GNOME shell

2021-01-15 Thread Fernando
The bug persists with accented characters if the dead key is the first
character you type. I mean, open the overview, type "á" and you see just
"a". Then type another "á" and it shows correctly. Same if you type
"lá", the accent shows correctly because the dead key wasn't the first
thing you typed.

Bug description:
I'm running an up-to-date Ubuntu Focal. I have a standard Spanish keyboard.
Under X, if I try to input an accentuated character, such as á or ü, in places
like the search field in the overview or when writing a folder name in the app
grid, nothing appears. Under Wayland, it fails each time on the first input of
an accentuated character, then it works.

Bug description:
I am using a fresh installed Ubuntu 18.04 on an RX 480 and an i5 7600.
3.28.0-0ubuntu1 is running. Normaly, everything runs fine, but lately
when I had some windows open (eclipse, Texmaker, Terminal, Firefox
with Youtube and other windows) the system suddenly was nearly frozen,
I could move the mouse and change active windows by ctrl+tab but not
use the keyboard e.g. for typing into windows or make any actions with
the mouse (e.g. open menues, click on menues, ..).

When I changed the session by Ctrl+Alt+F3 and then killed firefox,
everything worked again. I do not know whether this is a Firefox, a
gdm or a graphics driver issue. Since a program should not be able to
make the desktop crash at all, I suppose its not Firefox and so I post
  it here.

/var/log/syslog around the time contains the following (even if it
contains some device removed code, I did not do anything with the
cables and am sure that there isn't a hardware defect with mouse and
  keyboard):

2021-01-15 Thread Sujit Kumar
I installed the focal-proposed updates yesterday, just checked and I can
confirm the background corruption issue is still there, tho it's not as
much as before. Before it used to change to a complete grey static, but
now the wallpaper is still visible to an extent. I'll attach a
screenshot.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1911934] Re: SRU the current 3.38 stable update

2021-01-15 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package gnome-desktop3 - 3.38.3-1ubuntu1

---
gnome-desktop3 (3.38.3-1ubuntu1) hirsute; urgency=medium

  * Merge with Debian. Remaining changes (lp: #1911934)
- Add 04_compute_average_color.patch: Compute the avergage color in
gnome-desktop itself, not in unity to fix some races (LP #963140)
- Add tweak_color_computation.patch, Patch from Gord, no patch header,
  no bug link.
- Add git_revert_draw_background.patch
- Add ubuntu_language_list_from_SUPPORTED.patch,
Add API to get list of available languages from SUPPORTED file.
To be used by gnome 3.8 region panel language installation.
- debian/control.in: Build-Depend on language-pack-gnome-he for build tests
- debian/libgnome-desktop-3-18.symbols:
+ Add symbols included in Ubuntu patches

gnome-desktop3 (3.38.3-1) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Team upload
  * New upstream release
- Translation updates

gnome-desktop3 (3.38.2-1) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Team upload
  * New upstream release
- Translation updates
  * Drop patch for Hebrew translation, applied upstream
  * Preferentially build-depend on libgdk-pixbuf-2.0-dev.
We don't need the deprecated Xlib integration that is also pulled in
by the older libgdk-pixbuf2.0-dev package (see #974870).
  * Standards-Version: 4.5.1 (no changes required)
  * Backport support for user-specific XKB configuration.
This uses the new libxkbregistry to load XKB configuration, instead of
parsing it directly, which means we can have per-user keyboard layouts
in Wayland sessions (analogous to Xmodmap). (Closes: #974056)

gnome-desktop3 (3.38.1-2) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Team upload
  * run-with-locales: Use UTF-8 for *.utf8 locales
  * d/run-with-locales: Move to d/tests/
This improves tab-completion for d/rules.
  * d/p/Update-Hebrew-translation.patch:
Update Hebrew translation from upstream.
In particular this fixes an autopkgtest failure where U+2236 RATIO was
wrongly translated to U+003A COLON (Closes: #974086), and also fixes
the hour and minute in the GNOME Shell clock being reversed in the
Hebrew locale.

  Fix Released

Bug description:
  * Impact
That's the current GNOME stable update, including some translation updates
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-desktop/-/blob/gnome-3-38/NEWS

  * Test case

The update is part of GNOME stable updates
  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates/GNOME

Check that a GNOME session still works correctly, including changing
the background image, locale and screen settings. The GNOME version in
  setting should also be 3.38.3

  * Regression potential

The update has updated translations and version number, translations
are part of langpacks and not shipped with the update so it leaves the
  version string to verify

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1911614] Re: Ubuntu 20.04 and 20.04.1 images use linux-generic-hwe-20.04 instead of linux-generic

2021-01-15 Thread Erick Brunzell
I filed bug #1912032 concerning the failure of nvidia drivers to install
during a fresh installation of Ubuntu 20.04.1 because when download
updates is selected it auto-updates to a 5.8 series kernel during
installation.

Title:
Ubuntu 20.04 and 20.04.1 images use linux-generic-hwe-20.04 instead of
  linux-generic

Status in ubuntu-meta package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Beginning about January 8th Focal users that installed Focal using
either the Ubuntu 20.04 or 20.04.1 installation media began getting
updated to the 5.8 series linux kernel. Those who had installed using
the Ubuntu Focal Beta were not effected. This is because Focal Beta
was properly built with ‘linux-generic’ but the 20.04 and 20.04.1
images were built with ‘linux-generic-hwe-20.04‘. This can be easily
verified by looking at the iso manifest:

  https://releases.ubuntu.com/20.04.1/ubuntu-20.04.1-desktop-
  amd64.manifest

Note: old-release manifests (where 20.04 Beta and 20.04 reside) must
  be downloaded here:

  https://old-releases.ubuntu.com/releases/20.04/

The expected behavior is for Ubuntu Focal users to remain on the 5.4
series kernel unless they install with 20.04.2 or later images as
  indicated here:

  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/LTSEnablementStack

While not entirely updated it says “if one wants to remain on the
  original GA (General Availability) stacks, the options [include];
  Install from a previous
  12.04.0/12.04.1/14.04.0/14.04.1/16.04.0/16.04.1/18.04.0/18.04.1 point
  release and update”.

Jump just below that to the Focal specific notes and it says “The
20.04.2 and newer point releases will ship with an updated kernel and
X stack by default for the desktop”. Since 20.04.2 is not even due for
release until next month it makes no sense for updates to the 5.8
series kernel to be occurring unless the focal-proposed repos are
enabled even if HWE protocols had been changed.

It’s also worth noting that thankfully no accompanying HWE X stack is
yet available in the repos. I say thankfully because my efforts at
downgrading the X stack in 16.04 and 18.04 were never successful! But
the lack of a matching X stack may explain the many complaints on the
  forums about broken graphics???

It’s also worth noting that even the release notes say that “Ubuntu
20.04 LTS is based on the long-term supported Linux release series
  5.4“.

  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/FocalFossa/ReleaseNotes#Linux_Kernel

Scroll to the bottom here and you’ll also see that 20.04 and 20.04.1
are supposed to be supported with the 5.4 series kernel for the entire
  5 year life span:

  https://ubuntu.com/kernel/lifecycle

The other flavors’ 20.04 and 20.04.1 images were all built correctly
with ‘linux-generic’ with the possible exception of Ubuntu Studio
which uses a kernel stack I’m not familiar with. I’m also uncertain
about Ubuntu server because I’m simply not familiar with it.

  Original bug description below:

  ##

Just as the title says, the 20.04 and 20.04.1 images use the HWE
version of linux-generic resulting in upgrades to the 5.8 series
kernel. This seems to effect Ubuntu only, or I should say I checked
the Kubuntu, Ubuntu Mate, Xubuntu, and Lubuntu iso manifests which all
correctly list linux-generic. Also HWE is not truly complete without
  the accompanying HWE Xstack.

I checked all the documentation I could find and this was clearly not
intentional. In fact the manifest for Ubuntu Focal Beta still used
linux-generic, so this got messed up some time between April 3, 2020
and April 23, 2020. Here's just one example of the documentation for
  kernel support in Focal LTS:

  https://ubuntu.com/about/release-cycle#ubuntu-kernel-release-cycle

Installations performed with 20.04 and 20.04.1 media were supposed to
remain on the 5.4 series kernel throughout Focal's 5 year lifespan as
had been the case since HWE was introduced. The first step in fixing
this needs to be stopping fresh installs of Focal using the 20.04 and
20.04.1 media from immediately upgrading to the 5.8 series kernel.

It might be a little tricky to revert users from 5.8 to 5.4, but there
have been reports of breakage, particularly concerning Broadcom wifi
drivers and some graphics problems. But the graphics problems could
also be exacerbated by the lack of the matching HWE Xstack? At any
  rate it's a bug.

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:83.0)

Steps to reproduce:

The bug was reported against the snap on
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/thunderbird/+bug/1903805
' Thunderbird snap keeps asking to be the default email client '

The issue is similar to firefox bug 512305 , the approach for writing to
~/.local/share/applications directly isn't going to work for confined
applications

Actual results:

Thunderbird changes the default mimetype association in its private snap
directory

Expected results:

The default is changed in the real user directory. Calling xdg-settings
is proxyed to snapd and leads to the correct result

The attached patch is similar to what firefox has been doing in

snap env detection has been updated to be similar to what firefox is
currently doing which is a bit different from what first landed)

xdg-settings reports that Thunderbird is the default mail client, but I

  Debian: https://security-tracker.debian.org/tracker/CVE-2021-21261
  DSA: https://security-tracker.debian.org/tracker/DSA-4830-1

  [Impact]

  Versions in Ubuntu right now:
  Hirsute: 1.8.4-2
  Groovy: 1.8.2-1
  Focal: 1.6.5-0ubuntu0.1
  Bionic: 1.0.9-0ubuntu0.1

  Affected versions:
  >= 0.11.4 and < 1.9.4, except for 1.8.x >= 1.8.5

  Patched versions:
  Expected to be >= 1.9.4, 1.8.x >= 1.8.5

There are also branches with patches for 1.6.x (Ubuntu 20.04), but
nothing available yet for 1.0.x (Ubuntu 18.04).

  [Test Case]

No test case has been mentioned yet, but in the patches there are
  changes/additions to the unit tests.

  [Regression Potential]

Flatpak has a test suite, which is run on build across all
  architectures and passes.

There is also a manual test plan
  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Process/Merges/TestPlan/flatpak .

  Flatpak has autopkgtests enabled
  http://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/packages/f/flatpak .

Regression potential is low, and upstream is very responsive to any
  issues raised.

  [Other information]

Simon McVittie discovered a bug in the flatpak-portal service that can
allow sandboxed applications to execute arbitrary code on the host
  system (a sandbox escape).

The Flatpak portal D-Bus service (flatpak-portal, also known by its D-Bus
service name org.freedesktop.portal.Flatpak) allows apps in a Flatpak sandbox
to launch their own subprocesses in a new sandbox instance, either with the
same security settings as the caller or with
more restrictive security settings. For example, this is used in
Flatpak-packaged web browsers such as Chromium to launch subprocesses
that will process untrusted web content, and give those subprocesses a more
restrictive sandbox than the browser itself.

In vulnerable versions, the Flatpak portal service passes caller-
specified environment variables to non-sandboxed processes on the host
system, and in particular to the flatpak run command that is used to
launch the new sandbox instance. A malicious or compromised Flatpak
app could set environment variables that are trusted by the flatpak
run command, and use them to execute arbitrary code that is not in a
  sandbox.

A transition of pepperflashplugin-nonfree to a dummy package will happen
via bug #1911463. Debian will keep the dummy in Bullseye, and drop it
from the archive only in bookworm. Probably it's preferable also for us
to wait with removing it until after the 21.04 release.

Bug description:
Hello, Adobe has said they will not be supporting Flash beyond 2020:

  https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/flash-format-support-in-pdf.html
  https://theblog.adobe.com/adobe-flash-update/

I think we shouldn't ship Flash in hirsute. Does our agreement with
Adobe for distributing Flash installers or code allow us to skip
  shipping Flash in hirsute?

  Thanks

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1911614] Re: Ubuntu 20.04 and 20.04.1 images use linux-generic-hwe-20.04 instead of linux-generic

Title:
Ubuntu 20.04 and 20.04.1 images use linux-generic-hwe-20.04 instead of
  linux-generic

Status in ubuntu-meta package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1910537] Re: HDMI audio not working on Blackmagic Design ATEM Mini Pro ISO (video mixer)

2021-01-15 Thread Uldis Kalniņš
Do you have clean sound from HDMI1, if Linux PC is used? Today I
discovered it is garbled, need to know if it is my or everyone problem.

--
You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop
Packages, which is subscribed to pulseaudio in Ubuntu.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1910537

Title:
HDMI audio not working on Blackmagic Design ATEM Mini Pro ISO (video
  mixer)

Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
This is a complicated thing. I have a very specific problem with audio
  output on HDMI.

I want to use an older notebook with Lubuntu 20.04 as a video source
for libreoffice slides, videos etc. to feed them over HDMI into a
Blackmagic Design ATEM Mini Pro ISO (video mixer) as one input.
Configured on the desktop just like a second screen or beamer.

Video works well and rock-stable, no problem at all.

  But not audio.

Although I carefully configured audio with pavucontrol to be directed
to the HDMI output, the ATEM switcher does not recognize it as an
audio source (like when connecting a digital camera) and does not
receive or indicate any audio input.

  Note:

But when I use the very same computer, same HDMI cable, same video
with a cheap chinese portable LCD screen with speakers (i.e. pull the
cable from the ATEM and plug it into the screen) it immediately starts
playing both video and audio. So there is evidence that the ubuntu
notebook definitely passes it's sound to HDMI and there's really an
  audio signal on the HDMI.

I've opened a bug at Blackmagic Design, and got their reply that they
can't help and have never heard of such a problem before. Their guess
is that the linux notebook is not setting EDID configuration correctly
and thus not recognized by the ATEM, while the cheap LCD screen
propably does not care about EDID and just plays everything, therefore
a wrong EDID information would not matter.

Although I have decades of experience with Linux, I am not too
familiar with details of HDMI and the internals of the X11 driver, so
I'm not sure where to start debugging, not even, whether this is a
  problem of Xorg/X11 or pulseaudio.

I've checked this with another notebook with much more recent (intel)
hardware, which offers dozens of HDMI audio options in the pavucontrol
selection menu, but same problem: Video works, but the ATEM does not
recognize it as a audio source.

Blackmagic Design (they're good in Windows and MacOS, but not Linux)
recommended to use an edid manager, whatever this means.

The changes only add support for newer kernels so that the module can build,
and it's identical to what's in groovy. In theory it could break the build
against 5.4 but that's highly unlikely.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1908167] Please test proposed package

2021-01-15 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
Hello Hui, or anyone else affected,

Accepted pulseaudio into focal-proposed. The package will build now and
be available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/1:13.99.1-1ubuntu3.10 in
a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
focal to verification-done-focal. If it does not fix the bug for you,
please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-focal. In either case, without details of your testing we will
not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

Bug description:
  [Impact]
On the Dell AIO machines, there is no internal mic, after plugging a
headset, users expect the headset-mic or headphone-mic could be selected
automatically. But with the current rule, the headset-mic/headphone-mic will
not be selected automatically and even users manually select them, they will
not show up in the gnome sound setting, and users could not record sound by
headset-mic/headphone-mic.

  [Fix]
backport a patch from pulseaudio mergerequest, the patch is going to be
merged to pulseaudio 14.1. This patch could be backported to hirsute without
any change, but need to be changed if backport it to groovy and focal.

  [Test]
With the old pulseaudio (prior to 1:13.99.1-1ubuntu3.10), plugging in a
headset to the problematic Dell AIO machine will not automatically select
headset-mic/headphone-mic, and they also do not show up in Gnome sound
settings, leading to failure to record any sound.

With the new proposed package, on those Dell AIO, plug a headset, open
the gnome sound setting, the headset-mic is selected automatically,
use the headset-mic to record the sound, the sound could be recorded
and the sound quality is good.

  [Where problems could occur]
This patch could change the policy of audio device switching, it will not
affect all audio devices, but only the devices which has AVAIL_UNKNOWN
available status, that means it has possibility to introduce the regression on
headphone-mic ,headset-mic, internal mic and internal speaker's switching since
they all has AVAIL_UNKNOWN status. For example, after unpluging the headset,
the input device will not switch to internal mic automatically or after unplug
the headphone, the output device will not switch to internal speaker
automatically. But this possibility is very low, we have tested the patch on
many Dell and Lenovo machines, all worked well.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1895643] Re: Backport Thunderbird 78 to 20.04 LTS and 18.04 LTS

2021-01-15 Thread Olivier Tilloy
For the record, I talked to Robie who is on the SRU team, and he said:

« IMHO, I think that breaking the other packages to bump Thunderbird is
inevitable. Technically I don't think that's within the remit of the SRU
team - it's a TB thing. I think we should figure out how to mitigate as
much as possible, document and publicise the breakage as best as we can,
then break it. »

We went on to discuss how "apt upgrade" would behave (vs "apt dist-upgrade"), I
tested and I observed that "apt upgrade" wouldn't proceed to the upgrade as it
doesn't remove broken packages.
The "Software Updater" GUI however does the right thing, even if the UX will be
slightly unusual for most users (assuming they have tinyjsd or jsunit
installed): it will first warn that "Not all updates can be installed", and
propose a partial upgrade, which does the right thing, warning that it's going
to remove two packages (tinyjsd and jsunit) and upgrade 5 packages
(thunderbird*), and offering to proceed.

We agreed that I would bring up the topic with the technical board on
their mailing list.

nvidia-340 dkms fails to build against the current HWE kernel in focal,
regressing the user experience.

  [Test case]
Install the update, check that the dkms builds and works.

  [Where things could go wrong]
The changes only add support for newer kernels so that the module can build,
and it's identical to what's in groovy. In theory it could break the build
against 5.4 but that's highly unlikely.

Last linux kernel update "linux-headers-5.8.0-34-generic" broke

  ADDITIONAL NOTES

Other GTK2 file managers (e.g. Thunar) and applications (e.g. GIMP, Leafpad)
seem to have the same problems. This is probably at least rooted in a GTK2 bug:
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gtk+2.0/+bug/1808710

To further assert this, note that there is a SpaceFM file manager that
is available in GTK2 and GTK3. The GTK2 version displays the behavior.
The GTK3 version does not. Same with LibreOffice.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1911934] [NEW] SRU the current 3.38 stable update

2021-01-15 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Public bug reported:

* Impact
That's the current GNOME stable update, including some translation updates
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-desktop/-/blob/gnome-3-38/NEWS

* Test case

The update is part of GNOME stable updates
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates/GNOME

Check that a GNOME session still works correctly, including changing the
background image, locale and screen settings. The GNOME version in
setting should also be 3.38.3

* Regression potential

The update has updated translations and version number, translations are
part of langpacks and not shipped with the update so it leaves the
version string to verify

** Affects: gnome-desktop3 (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Low
 Status: Fix Committed

** Changed in: gnome-desktop3 (Ubuntu)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1900679] Re: [snap] chromium spams dmesg

2021-01-15 Thread Ian Johnson
The relevant syscall is `sched_setaffinity`, which when used with a
first argument of `0` is allowed in the default policy. Can someone who
is experiencing this bug run an strace to determine what argument
chromium is trying to use with sched_setaffinity ? We allow any
sched_setaffinity arguments with the process-control interface, but if
this denial is not breaking the application then perhaps it should just
be silenced in the policy instead.

  Thunderbird snap 78.4.1 2020-11-09 (93)

The latest version keeps asking at every start whether I want to "Use
Thunderbird as the default client". I do. So I keep "Email" and "Always perform
this check when starting Thunderbird" checked and click "Set as Default".
When I quit and restart Thunderbird I'm prompted the same question again.

I would expect Thunderbird to set itself as default and no longer ask
  this question.

Instead, Thunderbird either fails to set itself as default or it asks
the question despite being the default (not sure how to distinguish).

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 362359] Re: Focus gets stuck to a window - impossible to select other windows

Title:
Focus gets stuck to a window - impossible to select other windows

Status in xorg-server package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
Alright, terribly annoying bug that gets me to reboot several times a
day, but very hard to understand how to trigger it.

What happens: after some time of usage, you get "stuck" in a window. Idem
est, you can not select another window.
You can still click, select and drag in the window that has the focus, but
clicking on other windows, or on the panel, just doesn't work.

  Notes:
  - With window I don't mean "application window". For example it can only be
the page view in firefox, and you won't be able to click the buttons or the
URL field. It can also be the main text window in xchat, and you wont be able
to click in the user list or to change the chatroom.
  - The click seems to be grabbed by the window having the focus, even if you
click outside of it. For example, using xchat, if the main text window has
focus, clicking and dragging in the user list will actually select text in the
main text window.
  - Using xev, it seems that clics do not get passed to the correct window at
all (nothing received)
  - I have no idea what triggers this as sometimes it will trigger alone - pc
works, I leave it for an hour, I come back, the problem is triggered
  - Curious effect now: dragging and dropping to another window gives focus to
the window, and seems to be the only way to do so. For example if in firefox
the main page view window has the focus and I cant click the buttons, drag and
dropping text to the buttons gives the focus to the buttons, and I can't clic
the page view window anymore. Drag and dropping a button to the page view
window gives it its focus back

  Additional info:
  * Compiz disabled
  * Intel graphic card
  * Ubuntu jaunty - latest patches
  * Using a laptop, with an USB mouse

HAL, xserver, I have no idea where to file this bug into. I hope it will be
fixed before the release, it is really terribly annoying :s
Please tell me if there is any other detail I can provide.

gnome-shell crashes whenever in CHrome you pop out a video into a
floating video, or close the floating video (move the video back into
  the main window).

  To test, you can use

javascript:document.getElementsByTagName('video')[0].requestPictureInPicture();

to make a video float on any site, even if the site does not have a
button for it. I only tested Netflix.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1911614] Re: Ubuntu 20.04 and 20.04.1 images use linux-generic-hwe-20.04 instead of linux-generic

Title:
Ubuntu 20.04 and 20.04.1 images use linux-generic-hwe-20.04 instead of
  linux-generic

Status in ubuntu-meta package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1911918] [NEW] SRU the current 3.38 stable update

2021-01-15 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Public bug reported:

* Impact
That's the current GNOME stable update, including some fixes and translation
updates
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-control-center/-/blob/gnome-3-38/NEWS

* Test case

The update is part of GNOME stable updates
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates/GNOME

Check that the GNOME settings still work correctly

* Regression potential

The changes are small fixes but ensure each page of the setting is still
loading, also check that the printing panel layout is still correct and
that the sound panel works correctly since that's where the less trivial
changes have been commited

Bug description:
  Hello there!

Under Ubuntu 20.04, with Thunderbird installed using snap
(latest/stable: 78.5.1 2020-12-02), the release note shows up as

The expected behavior is that the release note should show up as
  Thunderbird stable build.

I have asked in the snapcraft forum and one member have also confirmed
  this issue (https://forum.snapcraft.io/t/question-regarding-the-

My mistake, I had gotten confused while trying to fix a broken build
with a libxslt dependency and thought I needed it. You can close this

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1911903] [NEW] Auto-reconnection of wifi doesn't work

2021-01-15 Thread Antonio Mazzarino
Public bug reported:

Hi everyone :)

It's a problem that occurs without any possible correlation with other
event (wake up, sleep etc).

In the middle of a session the Wi-Fi simply stop working and not only
the system doesn't reconnect automatically, but you need to turn off and
back on the Wi-Fi to be able to continue your activities.

IDK if it's related, but sometimes also happens that the other Wi-Fi

If I can help in any way with logs of any other information please

Further testing. Using the KMS driver results in mesa defaulting to
llvmpipe software rendering making YouTube a painful experience.

So the fkms is needed for 3d acceleration but glitchy graphics... ho-

Graphical flashes on a raspi 4

Status in xorg-server package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
Using gnome-shell - activities - see attached video

Graphics flash - more prominent with more than one app running.

If you install ubuntu-budgie-desktop and simply move through the menu

I'm guessing this is xorg related - but I do note the recent mesa

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1586822]

2021-01-15 Thread Mak-g
The bug is not yet actionable, because a decision was not achieved yet.
The team working on 2020H2 bookmarks improvements wanted to complete
collecting users feedback and telemetry before evaluating further steps.
Thus, while I'm in favor of this change, we should at least wait the end
of that project.

Fwiw, there is already browser.bookmarks.defaultLocation, but that is
updated to the last used folder as a consequence of bug 1432604. So the
work here would pretty much introduce a pref to disable the behavior
from bug 1432604 (don't remember the last used folder).

Ability to set default save destination for new bookmarks

Status in firefox package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
Though I can understand the rationale for making all new bookmarks go
into an "Unsorted Bookmarks" area, I think that it would be good if
Firefox provided an option to allow the user to change the default
save location for new bookmarks, because I for one don't want to have
to move every new bookmark I make to the "Bookmarks Toolbar", I would
like to be able to have them just go there automatically, but I can't
currently so it would be good if there were an option to change the
  default save location of bookmarks.

  [Impact]

this affects wslu 3.x which, when tries to start with a clean
environment after upgrade, the terminal will throw `rm: file not
  found` error.

  [Test Case]

   * Install Ubuntu 20.10 to WSL.
   * run any wslu tools (like wslfetch)
   * Verify that there is no `rm -rf` error.

  [Regression Potential]

This patch will try to remove ~/.config/wslu/ to order to reset to
default state (especially when first upgrade to latest wslu).
Potential regressions would be a result of ~/.config/wslu/ not being
  cleaned properly.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1911857] Re: cant tell whats wrong

2021-01-15 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.

At a minimum, we need:

1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

Please also ensure that you include the release and flavour of Ubuntu
that you are using.

Thank you!
