[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1926816] [NEW] Computer does not shut down
Public bug reported: In Ubuntu 21.04, when I shut down, my laptop never actually shuts down. I see a black screen, the laptop stays on, and the fans spin up. The computer will stay in this state all night. I then have to press and hold the power button to shut down the device. I am using the default kernel, 5.11.0-16-generic. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1551949]
With the cairo update in bug 739096, the functions `cairo_tag_begin` and `cairo_tag_end` become available, which can be used (with the "Link" tag type) to generate links in PDF output. There are two ways to use this. One approach is to issue `cairo_tag_begin` with an associated URL, then do some drawing, and then do `cairo_tag_end`; the PDF backend will collect the bounding rect of whatever gets drawn in between the begin/end pair, and generate a link for this area. The alternative is to explicitly pass a rect (or list of rects) to `cairo_tag_begin`, rather than relying on the backend to collect the affected area. I've experimented with both options, and it seems to me that we get a better result by explicitly passing the frame rect of whatever frame(s) are associated with the link, rather than depending on cairo's accumulation of the area between begin and end. This results in clickable PDF links that better match the clickable areas of the HTML document as viewed in the browser. (Which makes sense, as the active area of an HTML link is determined by the frame's area, not by the actual rendered ink.) Currently, only the PDF backend supports generating links like this. On macOS, our Save as PDF functionality actually goes via the cairo-quartz backend and the macOS printing architecture, rather than cairo's PDF backend. So to support links there, we'll need to add support for tag begin/end to the quartz surface. Fortunately, we don't currently need to implement everything that the PDF backend provides; just supporting tag_begin with the Link type and an explicit rect will provide enough functionality here. (Eventually, it would be awesome to implement more Tagged PDF support -- e.g. to tag document structure, internal destinations, etc -- but that's for another day, another bug.) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to thunderbird in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1551949 Title: Printing to PDF file loses URLs/links Status in Mozilla Thunderbird: In Progress Status in thunderbird package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Steps to reproduce: 1. Do not press Ctrl or Spacebar, which will commit the word. * Press either Shift key. Expected result: * Nothing happens, or the typed character should not change, at the very least. Actual result: * Typed word reverts back to "aws". The underline on the word still retains, meaning that the word is not yet committed. This issue is a real nuisance when typing a Vietnamese word followed by a Shift-punctuation (e.g. a question mark right after the word). Remarks: * This issue does not happen on any other programs, only happens on Chromium and Google Chrome, versions 79 to 83 (and possibly next versions). * Using fcitx-mozc, after typing a Japanese word, the Shift key does not change the character. * This issue, more or less, is similar to bug #1859294, although not a strict duplicate. * This issue has been reported in Chromium Bugs, at: https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=1086946 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/chromium-browser/+bug/1861882/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1926305] Re: 20.04 Online Accounts - Google Shared Drives
Thank you for looking into it. I appreciate it may not be an easy process. However corporate environments will not be upgraded until the next LTS. This is quite an important feature for end users and administrators alike. As a workaround we use rclone, but to have it all ready to go in the Desktop environment would really make a big difference. Just a thought for Canonical to consider. Doesn't appear to bind to a socket. No privileged executables, but does have udev rules. Probably needs a security review. [Quality assurance] No test suite. Does require odd hardware that we'll probably need to buy. I don't see debconf questions. ccid is well maintained in Debian by upstream author. One open wishlist bug in BTS, harmless. One open bug in launchpad, not security, but looks very frustrating for the users. [Quality assurance] The package does not call pam-auth-update in its postinst #1650366 Does not ask questions during install. One Ubuntu bug claims very poor behaviour if a card isn't plugged in. No Debian bugs. Occasional updates in Debian by long-term maintainer. Does require odd hardware that we'll probably need to buy. Does not appear to run tests during build. Has scary warnings in the build logs. Has a debian/watch file. Ancient standards version; other smaller lintian messages, mostly documentation problems. Quilt packaging. [Dependencies] Depends on libcurl4, libldap-2.4-2, libpam0g, libpcsclite1, libssl1.1 All are in main. [Background information] This PAM module can use CRLs and full-chain verification of certificates. It can also do LDAP, AD, and Kerberos username mapping. ==> libpcsc-perl <== [Availability] Source package pcsc-perl is in universe, builds for all architectures, plus i386 [Rationale] The desktop team and security team are interested in bringing smartcard authentication to enterprise desktop environments. [Quality assurance] Library package not intended to be used directly. No debconf questions. No bugs in Debian. No bugs in Ubuntu. Does require odd hardware that we'll probably need to buy. Tests exist, not run during the build; probably can't run during the build. Includes debian/watch file. A handful of lintian issues Quilt packaging. [Dependencies] libpcsc-perl depends upon libpcsclite1, libc6, perl, perlapi-5.30.0. All are in main. [Standards compliance] One oddity, Card.pod is stored in /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/perl5/5.30/Chipcard/PCSC/ Many other perl packages have .pod files in these directory trees so maybe it's fine, but it seems funny all the same. Otherwise appears to satisfy FHS and Debian policy.
