[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1133120] [NEW] gnome-session failing to load dude to timeout error on random boots

2013-02-25 Thread Britt Yazel
Public bug reported:

On seemingly random boots, gnome-session fails to load and simply goes
to a black screen after first showing the gnome stiped blue background
for around two seconds. the greeter log in var/log/gdm (see attached)
reports this error

gnome-session[2272]: WARNING: Session 'gdm-shell' runnable check
failed: Timed out only on the sessions where gnome-session fails to
load, on all of the sessions where the computer boots fine this error is
not present. The error seems to happen multiple times in succession, but
then on a 3rd or 4th attempt booting will rectify itself and will load
fine.

I am running Ubuntu raring x64, using the Ubuntu-Gnome-Remix base. I
also have the gnome-staging ppa installed.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1132033] Re: Gnome-Shell activities shows black background with fglrx in raring

2013-02-23 Thread Britt Yazel
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=56657

This is the upstream bug report for this issue. It appears to be a
incompatibily issue with the newer versions of Cairo (1.12.2+) and
fglrx.

I do not know if newer version of fglrx fix this cairo issue, as there
is still the Radeon 12.10 driver set in the repos on both Ubuntu 12.10
and 13.04.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1131104] Re: AM/PM time no longer working in Gnome Shellin Raring

2013-02-23 Thread Britt Yazel
Unfortunately, your fix didn't seem to work as the bug came back when
adding the ppa again

Maybe I tried it too soon and I still go the older version, but I am
fairly certain that the one it pulled down was the one that you uploaded
earlier today...

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1095850] [NEW] gwibber is not showing any content

2013-01-03 Thread Britt Yazel
Public bug reported:

I am running 13.04 development build, and am having an issue with
Gwibber as well as the Social Lens, where Gwibber does not show any
content from my facebook account. Gwibber just shows a blank white

I have tried removing and readding the account from the accounts window
as well, but nothing seems to work.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1095502] [NEW] Fglrx is installed but details is reporting VESA

2013-01-02 Thread Britt Yazel
Public bug reported:

I am running Ubuntu 12.10 x86_64 and have just recently installed the
FGLRX-updates package. The package has installed correctly and I can
confirm that the fglrx drivers are in fact active and running, but
System SettingsDetails reports VESA:DVST as the Graphics provider.

I would like to note that this issue also was the same on Ubuntu 12.04,
and is on both my primary laptop (this one) with a Radeon HD7000 series
card, and my secondary laptop with an Radeon HD4000 series card.

I believe this bug is the same as this bug 879522

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1082986] [NEW] warning: undefined reference to schema id='org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.updates'/

2012-11-25 Thread Britt Yazel
Public bug reported:

Using Ubuntu Gnome Remix and with the Gnome3-ppa installed, I am getting
a libglib2.0 error on both the i386 and amd64 versions saying:

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1060533] [NEW] libreoffice-kde no drop shadow on menus

2012-10-02 Thread Britt Yazel
Public bug reported:

When Libreoffice-kde is installed, the integration with KDE is great,
but there are no drop shadows on the drop-down menus, and there is no
visual color distinction between the drop down-menu and the rest of the
toolbar. When the Libreoffice-kde package is removed, and the
libreoffice-gnome and libreoffice-gtk packages are installed in it's
place though, the kde-gtk oxygen theme has the drop shadow included and
actually visually looks better than the native libreoffice-kde package.
I do not think that the gtk package being on-the-go converted to match
the oxygen look should have a better appearance than the actual kde
package.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 970560] [NEW] Displays is registering dual monitors as laptop when using fglrx

2012-03-31 Thread Britt Yazel
Public bug reported:

Today after installing the fglrx drivers on my Radeon 6950 cayman card,
in the Displays options, in order to get dual monitors to work I had
to first go into amdcccle and enable it there, restart the computer, and
THEN enable it in the displays setting. Also, both monitors are showing
up as laptop. When using the radeon drivers each monitor is picked up
as Acer blah blah, but with the propriatary drivers they both say
laptop and there is no visual color difference to indicate differences
between the two.

It would be nice if we could Unify the displays menu to where it will
enable dual monitors in amdccle when that option is selected or visa
versa.

It would also be nice to see the two monitors registering as their
proper names and differentiation.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 963658] [NEW] The way nautilus handles the desktop needs serious improvement

2012-03-23 Thread Britt Yazel
Public bug reported:

The way the nautilus handles the desktop could use some serious
improvement.

Firstly, the designated are for which desktop icons can be placed is not
consistant. Between logging in and out of the computer icons can shift
location. Icons will also switch position when switching from Gnome-
Shell to Unity.

Similarly, the keep aligned needs work. The icons will only lock
horozontally; vertically they can be placed at any spacing. Also, Mac OS
X has a nice effect where an icon will slide back to it's original
position if you place it in a unavailable space. It would be nice to see
some sort of an effect, as there is no effect now and it is very bare.

Another issue with the lock icons is the defualt spacing from the edge
of the screen. The Icons are spaced very far off the sides of the screen
and the dock, perhaps this could be toned down a bit.

Another issue I have found is that even when the keep aligned option
is on, if you drag a file from a nautilus window and drop it on the
desktop it can be placed anywhere, and does not snap to any sort of
alignment. It only will snap to alignment if you move it a second time
after the initally drag from the window.

These are just some observations that I have made that I believe could improve
the desktop experience. Perhaps a couple of these suggestions should be
requested from the Gnome-Team, or if they are made could be sent upstream.

ProblemType: Bug

Gap at the bottom of libreoffice writer window, above bottom toolbar

Status in “libreoffice” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
In the latest couple of releases of Libreoffice in the 12.04 release,
a small bug has appeared. There is now a gap at the bottom of the
libreoffice writer window. Just above the bottom toolbar with the
language information and the view sizing, there is a small 10-15 pixel
gap of empty space. This problem can be temporarilly fixed by changing
the view type from single page view to side-by-side mode and back.
This will make that extra gap dissapear, but it will reapear once you
  close and reopen writer.

This issue is present on more than one Precise install that I have,
and it appeared about 3 weeks ago.

Unity. There are 3 attached screenshots as well showing the before and
after.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 955676] Re: desktop icons change positions when switching from Gnome-Shell to Unity

2012-03-16 Thread Britt Yazel
Well the other issue has to deal with Icons being offset because of the
Unity Launcher positioning the effective screen space to the right 48
pixels. When going back to Gnome-Shell there is no longer this offset so
all of the icons move over, and perhaps a glitch happens when logging
back into Unity to where they shift to the right more than their
relative starting points.

  STR:
  1. Open nautilus
  2. Open the File menu, OR right-click in the window, OR open any of the
option menus inside the Preferences window.
  3. Move down through the menu using touchpad.
  4. Click on a sensitive menu item.

  Actual results:
  3. The first sensitive item is highlighted, but (usually) none of the other
sensitive items are.
  4. The item is highlighted only once you click it.

  Expected results:
  Highlight should follow the mouse

This is not specific to menu items.

As you can see, the icons shifted 30-40 pixels to the right from the
original position after switching to Gnome-Shell. If I were to switch
back and forth 3-4 times the icon would be completely off the screen.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 953675] Re: Login screen shows as corrupted / covered with black rectangles when logging in

I too have this issue on both my desktop and my laptop. For a while
LightDM loaded completely beautifully, but a few weeks ago it started to
load all weird and glitchy. I have tried it with opensourced and
proprietary drivers on both a Radeon HD 4200 and 6950 and both equally
have this issue.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 951310] Re: Gap at the bottom of libreoffice writer window, above bottom toolbar

2012-03-09 Thread Britt Yazel
I have ruled out the libreoffice gtk+, gtk3, or libreoffice gnome
packages as the cause. After removing all three packages, the issue is
EXTREMELY apparent in the raw libreoffice look. There is a blatant gap
at the bottom where it should not be.

  3) What is expected to happen is one may resize a LibreOffice window
from the bottom right by putting the mouse icon to the bottom right of
the window, click and hold, and move the window size as desired.

  4) What happens instead is if the white arrow pointing down and to the
right, clicking will bring up the File Menu, as well undesirable affects
(ex. the whole sheet is highlighted but clicking inside does not
unhighlight, can no longer resize). Other corners and sides works fine
for resizing the window. A screenshot of this problem:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/749986/+attachment/2078779/+files/Libreoffice_resize-grip.png

WORKAROUND: Resize using the top left and right corners or ALT+F8 and
  use the keyboard.

WORKAROUND: create a .gtkrc-2.0__libreoffice file in your home
  directory, with the following content:

  style default-style
  {
    GtkWindow::resize-grip-height = 0
    GtkWindow::resize-grip-width = 0
  }

  class GtkWidget style default-style

and then launch libreoffice writer (or another component) with the command:
  GTK2_RC_FILES=.gtkrc-2.0__libreoffice libreoffice -writer

WORKAROUND: Make sure the black arrow pointing down and right shows up,
  then resize is successful.

  + Not reproducible in Xubuntu 11.10 32-bit.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 890747] Re: Keyboard shortcut - Ctrl Alt Del doesn't do what most people typing it would expect

2012-03-01 Thread Britt Yazel
I would love to see the system monitor get implemented in some way into
the ctrl-alt-delete. It is a very comfortable and familiar way to access
the system manager when an application freezes and your mouse cursor is
trapped. (aka full screen flash)

Having a keyboard shortcut to access the system monitor is just good all
around planning.

  1. Type Ctrl+Alt+Del.

What happens: In Unity, a mutant version of the Log Out dialog
  appears.

What should happen: The nearest equivalent to the Windows Task Manager
appears. Currently, that is the Processes tab of System Monitor.

(Implementing this probably would invalidate bug 485740.)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 749986] Re: Resizing LO window from bottom right brings up pop-up and undesirable effects

2012-02-21 Thread Britt Yazel
After today's updates in Precise to libreoffice the glitch is still
present and as bad as ever. It is nice that we know what is causing this
bug, but it doesn't change that it needs a solution. The average user
isn't going to be as understanding as we all are, and a major glitch in
the default office program is not going to impress the general public.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 749986] Re: Resizing LO window from bottom right brings up pop-up and undesirable effects

2012-02-03 Thread Britt Yazel
I am able to replicate the 'right-click' menu popping up when trying to
resize in any other interface rather than unity (gnome-shell, gnome-
fallback), but not the strange orange overlay highlight. In Unity I am
still having both the 'right-click' menu opening as well as the strange
orange overlay appearing. I wonder what it is about that bottom corner
that is messing up.

I can confirm that it is not a libreoffice issue, but a Ubuntu issue, as
this is the only distribution that I have seen with this problem.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 915773] [NEW] package libreoffice-core 1:3.5.0~beta2-2ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess new pre-installation script returned error exit status 1

2012-01-12 Thread Britt Yazel
Public bug reported:

after trying to upgrade to libreoffice 3.5 I got an error message that
said cannot delete directory /usr/lib/libreoffice/basis3.4 as it is not
empty, and I could not get the install to proceed.

To fix this issue I had to manually remove all of the files in basis3.4

a mkdir basis3.4/program to get the update to install successfully.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 749986] Re: Resizing LO window from bottom right brings up pop-up and undesirable effects

2012-01-05 Thread Britt Yazel
This really really needs to get fixed for ALL versions on Libreoffice. I
am not a developer so I cannot fix this, but I know it is localized to
Ubuntu, and is VERY important. I know people who have been critisizing
Ubuntu for being unprofessional for a bug as big as this remaining for
well over a year now.

WORKAROUND: Resize using the top left and right corners or ALT+F8 and
  use the keyboard.

WORKAROUND: create a .gtkrc-2.0__libreoffice file in your home

  {

    GtkWindow::resize-grip-width = 0
  }

  class GtkWidget style default-style

and then launch libreoffice writer (or another component) with the command:
  GTK2_RC_FILES=.gtkrc-2.0__libreoffice libreoffice -writer

WORKAROUND: Make sure the black arrow pointing down and right shows up,
  then resize is successful.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 749986] Re: Resizing LO window from bottom right brings up pop-up and undesirable effects

2011-12-25 Thread Britt Yazel
This bug is still persistant in 12.04. Not only does the menu pop up
when I try to resize in the lower corner, the light orange overlay to
show window resizing appears fragmented on the window, and will not go
away, making the entire session of the program unusable.

Also, I do not know what the issue is with the specific semantics to
reporting the bug, but I surely hope that this bug is not still kept
alive because of something as silly as a poorly written bug report.

If that is the case, I will gladly make a second report for this bug,
reported to whomever's liking, that way this darn bug can get fixed!!

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 749986] Re: Resizing LO window from bottom right brings up pop-up and undesirable effects

2011-12-19 Thread Britt Yazel
I have had this issue for the entirety of the 11.10 lifecycle, and I
have this issue in 12.04 alpha as well. I do not know of any other
distributions that have this issue, so it is definitely a Ubuntu
problem. Any ETA on the status of a fix for this? This bug has lived for
far too long.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 826771] Re: indicator-appmenu leads to have a nautilus menubar displayed on top of the screen

2011-10-29 Thread Britt Yazel
It Works!!!

My mistake for adding to the report without noticing that there was a
fix released. I didn't have the proposed repository enabled, but the fix
did in fact work.

Thank you for the prompt response and for getting the fix out there!!
You guys rock!
