[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2043928] [NEW] mtxdoc.sty in texlive-music

2023-11-19 Thread Lippolis Giuseppe
Public bug reported:

I'm compiling a latex file
(https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwiax72KxdCCAxUpgP0HHW2ADR0QFnoECBgQAQ&url=https%3A%2F%2Fctan.math.washington.edu%2Ftex-archive%2Fsupport%2Fm-tx%2Fdoc%2Fmtxdoc.ltx&usg=AOvVaw0G5ert5C3-XAwfcEbkoRI9&opi=89978449)
 using pdflatex.
During the compilation I got this error:

! LaTeX Error: File `mtxdoc.sty' not found.

Type X to quit or to proceed,

The "mtxdoc.sty" is actually present in texlive-music package and I
found it in /usr/share/doc/texlive-doc/generic/m-tx/mtxdoc.sty but
texlive is unable to find it.

Bug description:
See description below. As the driver manager is done inside software-
properties-qt, it's basically the same bug, but now it's affected by
something we can't exactly get into the mechanism of: plasma-
  discover's "Software Sources" link.

  Steps to recrate:

  1) Open Plasma-discover
  2) Go to Settings
  3) Under click on "Software Sources"
  4) Attempt to enter password

  Expected: Software properties opens

Actual: Pkexec keeps asking for password.

  --

  Earlier description:

The driver manager for both Ubuntu Studio and Kubuntu can no longer
launch due to some updated security measures in PolicyKit.

The original behavior was that systemsettings would open
  /usr/bin/ubuntustudio-driver-manager (or /usr/bin/kubuntu-driver-
manger) via pkexec, which would then open software-settings-qt.
Unfortunately, the new behavior does not act correctly to pkexec and
pkexec does not see the user as available in the sudoers file.

The only way around this was to pass "export DISPLAY=:0" inside the
appropriate driver manager executable with the command "sudo software-
properties-qt". The KCM itself needs to execute the driver-manager via
xterm, which then prompts for a password. It's ugly, but it works.

I will attach a debdiff for the kubuntu-settings package.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1958972] [NEW] Thunderbird 91 does not honor the dark theme

2022-01-25 Thread Giuseppe D'Angelo
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS
Release:20.04

thunderbird:
  Installed: 1:91.5.0+build1-0ubuntu0.20.04.1
  Candidate: 1:91.5.0+build1-0ubuntu0.20.04.1

After the upgrade to Thunderbird 91, the dark theme settings are not
honored in several places:

* when reading an email message (either in the bottom right corner panel, or
when opening a message in its own tab/window)
* in the preferences

These areas are "black on white" (light theme) rather than following the
system settings (dark theme). The rest of the application is using dark
theme.

Going into Preferences -> Language & Appearance -> Colors has "Use
system colors" selected by default. Also, it has "Override the colors
specified by the content with my selection above" set to "Always".

ANY SELECTION OF THESE TWO PARAMETERS IS BROKEN:

* As I said, choosing "Always" + "Use system colors" means that
Preferences + Emails are in light theme.

* "Never" + "Use system colors", then the Preferences page uses the
correct dark theme. The emails still appear in a light theme.

* "Never" + UNSET "Use system colors", and force a white on black (dark)
theme, then the preferences are in the correct dark theme (not the one
forced, but the system one). The emails will appear white on black (the
one forced), which is still wrong, as the system dark theme isn't black.
However, if an email forces black text (e.g. HTML body), then it becomes
unreadable (black text over black background).

* "Always" + UNSET "Use system colors", then Preferences are in dark
theme (but the one I forced, not the system one), email bodies are white
on black (again, the one I forced), but any color information from the
email is overridden. An HTML email with the usual "my replies are in
red" won't have any red text.

This is a clear regression from the earlier version of Thunderbird where all of
this worked perfectly.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1901157] Re: [Raven/Raven2/FireFlight/Renoir AMD Ryzen] No Sound at all

2020-10-24 Thread Giuseppe Argentieri
I have the same model and same problem. Nothing to add apart from a
workaround which might be useful to address the problem, I hope.

1) I manually remove the module snd_rn_pci_acp3x.

Microphone stops working.

2) I restart pulseaudio with pulseaudio -k

Sound output starts working.

3) I manually reload snd_rn_pci_acp3x

Microphone detected and working again, without affecting the 'sink'
(output).

On a side note, but somehow related, the led light of the mic button (F4) is
always on, whether the mic is muted or not.

I am restoring this old Lenovo T60.
  I just installed a 512GB SSD drive
  4GB of Ram
Intel duo 2 core T7200 64 bit processor

Single booting: only Ubuntu is on this machine.

It took me several installation attempts. Initially after installing
Ubuntu I would only see a purple screen with stripes but nothing would
  come on.

Finally I installed it and Ubuntu started. I am using the laptop to
  file this bug report.

Now I have the issue of completely random freezes/crashes while using the
console, or firefox or even other apps.
  Completely random.

The cursor does not move, I open any random app and the screen goes
black where the app window should be.

The only way out is to reboot the machine.

A few times I actually had to reinstall the 0S from the CD install.

You probably will find records as I must have done this tens of times
  since last night.

  Please help me.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1865263] Re: [Focal] xkb-data 2.29-1 breaks AZERTY keyboard

2020-02-29 Thread Giuseppe C
I can confirm this. This morning after upgrading I found myself with a
US keyboard layout without realizing why, and with no way to get back to
my own, not from dpkg/reconfigure keyboard/configuration nor from
localectl. (those are supposed to be hyphens, yeah)

The funny thing is that in gnome/terminal my layout is fully recognized,
it-s just firefox and some other app that do not play nice.

  Running :

  GNOME Shell + Mutter 3.35.91

Upgrading from 2.26-2ubuntu4 to 2.29-1 caused my French AZERTY keyboard to be
QWERTY.
  If I run :
  setxkbmap fr
in a terminal, then everything becomes ok again.
The issue is not present in GNOME Terminal but is present in Synaptic or
Firefox e.g., I guess it could be X/Wayland apps difference ?

Anyway, downgrading to xkb-data 2.26-2ubuntu4 did solve the issue.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1737979] Re: Wayland freezes with matplotlib

2018-04-05 Thread Giuseppe Scelsi
In my machine matplotlib by default selects the "TkAgg" backend. I
worked around this freezing problem by selecting the "gtk3" backend
instead, as in 'ipython3 --pylab=gtk3'. I had to install
'python3-cairocffi' as requested by a warning at startup and now
everything seems to work well.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1727759] Re: Please upgrade to 3.17.10

2018-02-07 Thread Giuseppe D'Angelo
Could this bug please be reopened, against 16.04? This is not fixed
there.

hplip used to have regular updates in 16.04 as part of SRU, in order to
support new printers that become available on the market, but for some
reason this stopped ~1 year ago. It would be *really* great to get again
regular updates, at least until 18.04.1 / 18.04.2 are out. Is there
anything one can do to help?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1727759] Re: Please upgrade to 3.17.10

2018-02-07 Thread Giuseppe D'Angelo
Actually, sorry, I misread the dates on the changelog. hplip has never
been upgraded since March 2016, not 2017. So, yes, it's been 2 years
without any update for new printers.

AMILO Pro Edition V3505/AMILO Pro Edition V3505, BIOS R01-B0G
 04/27/2007

from the wistron_btns kernel module, used on FJ AMILO Pro V3505, to enable
and disable the wireless card module from the notebook function button.

The same BUG arise on all the recent kernels, including the one I'm reporting
about, even at installation time from the Ubuntu media, at module "load time".

By the way, once the kernel report this OOps, the system doesn't power
off or reboot correctly at shutdown time, it simply hangs, even when
installing the system from the media, a really serious issue for new,
  naive users.

The only way to solve the problem seems to "blacklist" the module in
/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist,conf, but, unfortunately, this will "LOCK"
the wireless module in its enabled or disables state and require to
boot a different kernel to unlock its state.

I did some investigation on the Net about this issue and I found an
interesting report about this problem, that seems known at least from
  kernel version 3.12,

  http://marc.info/?l=linux-kernel&m=138463383801233&w=2

I tested the suggested patch against the
linux/drivers/input/misc/wistron_btns.c gentoo 4.4.21 source, my main
system, and, well, it correct the BUG, not anymore any Oops and the
  button seems to work correctly.

You will find the patch I applied to the wistron_btns.c source as an
attachment to this report: it is a really simple patch that I'm almost
sure (I didn't verified it) it may be applied unchanged to the
  4.4.0-43-generic Ubuntu kernel image sources.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1532226] Re: No menu bar in gtk apps on fresh boot

2016-09-29 Thread Giuseppe D'Angelo
Something else I noticed when doing a 14.04->16.04 upgrade: the damn
indicator-appmenu package was missing! Installing that brought in the
unity-gtk module, which solved the issue for me.

Around 35% of fresh boots or restarts results in no menus in unity panel for
most apps, notable exceptions are firefox & thunderbird
  A log out/in restores functionality.
When this occurs there is nothing in any of the ~/.cache/upstart logs of
obvious note

  Test case:
  fresh install, no changes
Do a number of restarts from system settings, using either restart > restart

Hi, I've got a quick update. I've finally sorted out the connection
problem, i.e. I've changed the network password to a minimum of 8
characters. It works OK the first time I connect up, but the second time
it keeps asking me the password again and again. So I have to manually
delete the connection and the same as above. I don't know whether this
is a bug or something I'm missing out. Hope you can help. Cheers, -G

2015-08-28 Thread Giuseppe
Hi, thanks. Although I agree I could change the password to make it
works for now, there's no point in having a minimum length set to an
arbitrary 8 characters. I think you agree that I as a user should have
known this in advance. Ultimately, security is up to the user. Thanks
for looking at this.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1241986] Re: Cannot connect to WPA/WPA2, EAP-PEAP, MSCHAPV2 network

2015-08-28 Thread Giuseppe
Hi all,

I'm new a newbie in Ubuntu Touch (one month so far with MX4) and I love
it so much. However, I've been having problems in using the WiFi, both
before and after the release of OTA6. Specifically, I can't connect up
to eduroam (and networks like that) using WPA & WPA2 Enterprise, PEAP,
MSCHAPv2. Once I fill in all the details, the button "Connect" is greyed
out and I can't proceed any further. I've tried to save the network
settings in /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/ but nothing happens.
Please help me with this as I can't use WiFi at work.

Thanks for your help!

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1186702]

2015-08-18 Thread Giuseppe-castagno
Retest with:

- LO Version: 5.0.0.5, Build ID: 437e4abdf9e72fd0a6e6f8697a0e659bc77f9b10, TDF
distribution;

- on local Apache2 WebDAV server
(vnd.sun.star.webdav://192.168.1.40/webdav/Lorem_ipsum.odt)
- OS is Ubuntu 14.04 LTS;

the protocol vnd.sun.star.webdav worked.

WebDAV: LibreOffice does not handle vnd.sun.star.webdav protocol out-
  of-the-box

Status in LibreOffice Productivity Suite:

Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
Libreoffice is able to open documents located on a WebDAV server if provided
with an URL starting with the vnd.sun.star.webdav protocol.
  (for instance: vnd.sun.star.webdav://example.com/webdav/my-document.odt )

Unfortunately, after installing Libreoffice on Ubuntu these URL aren't still
handled correctly.
Whether you click on a link in your browser or you try to open the URL from
the command line with xdg-open vnd.sun.star.webdav://... you get a message
saying that this protocol is unknown.

What I expected was that LibreOffice would start and would open the
  document.

A workaround is to create a Desktop file with the following informations:
  [Desktop Entry]
  Name=WebDav LibreOffice
  Exec=/usr/bin/libreoffice %u
  Type=Application
  Terminal=false
  Categories=System;
  MimeType=x-scheme-handler/vnd.sun.star.webdav;

and then to copy it in /usr/share/applications
Afterwards you have to run sudo update-desktop-database so that Ubuntu will
take the new protocol into account.

A more definitive solution would be to modify the libreoffice-base
Desktop file that comes with libreoffice (also located in
/usr/share/applications) to add the MimeType properties described
  above.

I've just checked on Windows 7 32bit, LO 5.0.0.5,
LO build id: 1b1a90865e348b492231e1c451437d7a15bb262b, works as well.

I think this can be marked as RESOLVED.

Users can of course reopen it if they think it's the case.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1417232] [NEW] Rename 'overlayfs' module as per upstream name 'overlay'

2015-02-02 Thread Giuseppe Mazzotta
Public bug reported:

Module has been renamed upstream:
https://git.kernel.org/cgit/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/?id=ef94b1864d1ed5be54376404bb23d22ed0481feb

The reason is that some distros might want to keep 2 modules, 'overlay'
and 'overlayfs'.

However this is not the case for the kernel shipped by Ubuntu; would it
be possible to support the new module name?

** Affects: linux-meta (Ubuntu)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1417228] [NEW] Documentation bug in man rsyslogd

2015-02-02 Thread Giuseppe Mazzotta
Public bug reported:

This has been reported without any feedback to ubuntu-
ser...@lists.ubuntu.com.

Although minor, there is an issue in the man page for current rsyslogd
package in Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS.

Regarding "-d" option, man page says:

--
-d Turns on debug mode. Using this the daemon will not
proceed a fork(2) to set itself in the background, but opposite to
that stay in the
foreground and write much debug information on the
current tty. See the DEBUGGING section for more information.

This is a lie. Using the "-d" option alone will still fork rsyslog to
background.

libreoffice Mysql connector fails over network

Status in “libreoffice” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I am running xubuntu 12.04, 32 bit, fully up to date.
I installed libreoffice 4.2.0.4 from the ubuntu libreoffice standard ppa.
This includes:

   libreoffice-mysql-connector 1.0.2+LibO4.2.0~rc4-0ubuntu1~precise4

In libreoffice 4.1.4 this mysql(native) connector worked locally and
over my home network. In 4.2.0.4 it works locally but not over my
home network,. Nothing else has changed. Mysql(JDBC) still works.

  The reported error is:

  [code]
  SQL Status: HY000
  Error code: 2002

Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket
'/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2)
  [/code]

This is odd, since I am trying to connect over my network.

The Libreoffice team have said they do not support mysql connector,
but rely on distributions such as ubuntu.

Raymond,

I've upgraded alsa and pulseaudio and added the analog-surround-21
profile in /usr/share/pulseaudio/alsa-mixer/profile-sets/extra-hdmi.conf

2014-05-10 Thread Giuseppe Iuculano
Raymond,

when I plugged the subwoofer hda-jack-sense-test -a indicates:

Pin 0x1e (Not connected): present = Yes

You see the surround-21 profile active because I added it in
/usr/share/pulseaudio/alsa-mixer/profile-sets/extra-hdmi.conf for testing, now
I removed it and I'm going to attach again logs.

With the stock extra-hdmi.con no sound on subwoofer, if I add the
surround-21 profile in extra-hdmi.conf internal mic doesn't work
anymore.

Bug description:
Sometimes lightdm comes up fine. Other times it appears to fail.
x-0.log shows it tried to load 'nv' (rather than 'nvidia' which is

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1059034] Re: nautilus fails to copy single file > 4GB to usb stick

2013-06-29 Thread Giuseppe "Oblomov" Bilotta
If the USB stick has a FAT or FAT32 filesystem, then individual files on
it cannot be bigger than 4GB (this is a filesystem limitation, not a
Linux issue).

Hi,
thank you for the reply.
I think that is not an issue now.
It was solved with the upgrades.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1066410] Re: lightdm doesn't load correctly on Ubuntu 12.10

2012-11-30 Thread Giuseppe Fierro
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 969489 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/969489

Same issue with me on Ubuntu 12.10.

I can't understand why this bug hasn't hight priority.
It's very frustrating when you want to show the power of Ubuntu to your friends
and the system doesn't start.
It's very very annoying

Thanks

lightdm doesn't load correctly on Ubuntu 12.10

Status in “lightdm” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Ubuntu 12.10 doesn't load correctly because lightdm shows only a mouse
pointer and a blinking command-line cursor.
I don't know if this is only Ubuntu 12.10 specific bug, because a similar
error appeared on my friend's computer back in 2011 on Ubuntu 11.10. However,
switching to a command line and restarting lightdm solves the problem per
instance. Also rebooting the device solves it, but also only for the specific
boot. Another reboot ends with the same "black screen with a working mouse
pointer and a blinking cursor".

I am using Asus Zenbook ux32vd (Intel HD Graphics 4000 + not used
  Nvidia GT620M - Optimus technology).

Bug description:
I'm not sure it is the right package to ask change in the default

I think there is an aspect of the trash icon to be improved.

With some applications (for example Thunderbird, Google Chrome,
LibreOffice), if I click "Empty Trash" on Trash icon, the confirmation
