Title:
LibreOffice has started displaying a donation nag

Status in LibreOffice:

I just opened up a spreadsheet (technically a CSV file, but who's
counting), to discover LibreOffice displaying an eye-catching blue

This irritating nag is apparently supposed to display every 90 to 180
days with no in-application means to disable it permanently, and
there's apparently also a "Help us make LibreOffice even better!"

(WhatsNew is going to be moved out of the infobar stack.)

Happy to be of service. And sorry for the late patch, in the end it was
pretty simple.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1736176]

2023-07-19 Thread Heiko-tietze-g
(In reply to Karsten from comment #35)
> It would be nice if the standard behaviour of the software would not be
> touched and enhancements are always optional to be used.
Standard behavior is not clearly defined but you are right, and we do our best.
In this case scroll lock was implemented as a standard. More questionable is
the second part with everything being optional. Let's better decide on every
change whether it make sense to bloat the options, even when it's an advanced
setting. It is bad usability if you a) have to change an option, and b)
struggle to find it.

> That's the reason why i am still using Version 7.1.8.1...
You miss a lot of goodies :-). But the power of open source is choice, if it's
the older version or a different application. We offer release candidates and
nightly builds that run in parallel so you can test the new releases. Your
input is very much welcome.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1736176]

2023-07-18 Thread Heiko-tietze-g
The key and the implementation actually work well but, as commented
before, some hardware abuses it for other purpose. So I suggest to block
the scroll lock handling with an expert option (tools > options >
advanced: UseScrollLock; on by default, of course). Tentative patch at
https://gerrit.libreoffice.org/c/core/+/154528

Scroll lock does not work for kf5 and gtk4 but gen, gtk3 and qt6 on
Linux.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1093765]

2023-03-28 Thread Heiko-tietze-g
Why do you expect attributes to be consistent when switching from one
style to another? If your default paragraph uses a (directly applied)
italic font style it will be removed when switching to any other style.

We could turn this question around and ask what you expect when
switching from one style to another. Meaning whether all or just the
different attributes should be overwritten. Let's say the text is Text
Body with the special attribute italic (whether set directly or via
style modification doesn't matter). Switching to Heading 1 could mean
you expect the font size larger and the bold weight to be applied - in
addition to the italic weight. This does not solve the use case to
explicitly switch off an attribute, eg. H1 in bold but H2 not.

The issue is clearly NAB.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1093765]

2023-03-28 Thread Heiko-tietze-g
(In reply to Eyal Rozenberg from comment #14)
> If part of the paragraph is in italic...

...it's not a formatting on the paragraph but at the characters. The
Style Inspector shows nicely where the attribute of the selection comes
from.

For the topic being discussed here you could switch to indentation,
background color, or associated list attributes. You want these settings
to switch on/off depending on the chosen paragraph style.

What exactly? The requirement is clear (and requested repeatedly in the
recent survey [1]). It's expected to scroll per pixel even when the cell
exceeds the window size. We have to jump to the top when going into edit
mode. But besides I don't see nothing controversial.

The last patch stores the state of the "More" expanders and should
remember the window size (might not work for some reason).

I suggest to create new tickets if something needs fine-tuning.

[Upstream] Spell checking doesn't warn users if the selected
dictionary isn't installed, but rather returns a potentially incorrect
  result

Status in LibreOffice:
  Confirmed
Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
This has been the case since Beta 2.

  To reproduce:

  1) Type out a load of rubbish on the keyboard as well as a few correctly
spelled words. I used "vmw;qbjk aoeuasnth aoeu house in the street"
  2) Press F7 to initiate the spell check.

Actual Result: The spell check notifies the user of completion without any
recognition of errors.
Expected Result: The spell check should highlight each misspelled word and
offer alternatives.

WORKAROUND: Open the dash and run Language Support
  2) Under the 'Language' tab, choose another variant of English and drag it
above the US English so it takes precedence.
  3) Click "Apply System-wide" and log out.

On logging back in, spell check will work.

  Not reproducible in Xubuntu 32-bit.

Clearly a bug to me, deleted content is still gone even when TC is on

[upstream] Search and replace, with tracked changes on, changing only
format of text, causes Writer to hang

Status in LibreOffice:
  Confirmed
Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
Create new text document with contents "Hello, World".
Turn on change tracking (under Edit).
Select Find and Replace (under Edit).
Put "Hello" (no quotes) in both the find and the replace boxes.
  Click on "More".
  Put cursor in Replace box.
  Click on Format.
Set it to, say Italic (leave other options empty). Accept.

And now, for the fatal part: Click "Replace all".
If you just replace one, you'll see why the latter fails. The replacement
value gets inserted beofre the original, so then it continues on and sees the
original again... ad infinitum.

What should happen: If it just put its position after the original text when
searching and replacing, it wouldn't have this problem.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1141034]

2019-09-19 Thread Heiko-tietze-g
"Shift before"... I wouldn't understand this command. So let's not make
compromises.

I'm pretty sure we can evaluate LTR/RTL and update the command label and
the various captions accordingly.

Would be my understanding but the drawback of not perfectly terms with
forward/backward instead of left/right is clear.

In Writer we use Left/Top, Right/Bottom for paragraph style > alignment
depending on horizontal/vertical direction. The dynamic label might be
not so easy to implement. How about "Shift forward" and backward for
left/right?
