[Desktop-packages] [Bug 841409] Re: GEdit is the only choice as Calendar application in Default Applications dialog
Rainer, we understand the situation however there are no proper calendar applications available. Sure there is Lightning as an add-on for Thunderbird, however I don't think it is included by default. Probably a bug report is to be opened in Thunderbird to include. We are working on a calendar app for the Ubuntu Touch phone. [Those comments are building up, so brief links to direct other people to appropriate bugs might be good here, if anyone has them. Thanks.] This happens intermittently. Sometimes upon resume, all I see is a black screen and the cursor. the mouse and keyboard respond (the mouse moves) but nothing changes. Switching to console and back doesn't fix it. Killing Compiz also does not fix the issue. Further, if one has password lock disabled on resume the user will be stuck with a frozen display of whatever was last shown on the screen before suspend. The mouse cursor still changes as you hover over various elements but the display is frozen solid. One can switch to another TTY via ctrl+alt+F1 but killing the X session is the only way to get back to the desktop. Attempts to replace compiz have been fruitless. Trying the 3.4 kernel also did not fix the issue. BTW, I haven nothing connected to the laptop when I resume and before suspend. This is a very annoying issue because the only way to recover is to reboot, which means all the open files will be lost. [UPDATE] It was discovered that switching to a tty, killing compiz, then invoking 'metacity --replace' would successfully switch over to metacity. Attempting to invoke 'compiz --replace' afterwards would put the state right back where it was (frozen screen, etc.) and output error messages saying something similar to invalid configuration, this should never happen, you should probably raise a bug report about it. After killing Compiz again and invoking compiz --replace yet again I can get basic window management back (though unity --replace still does not work as it whines about unclean exit states). Matching subscriptions: dp-unity https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1053570 Title: Alt+section does not work as expected Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Reproduce: Open two e.g. two Firefox windows. Use alt+section (key above tab, § on my Swedish keyboard layout, ` on US layouts) to switch between the two different windows. What happens: A graphical window switcher is shown, with an orange glow around the window not currently focused. You release alt+section, since the orange halo leads you to beleive the window you want to switch to is selected. This is false -- you are instead taken back to the window you had focused when pressing alt+section. If I hold alt and press section again, the orange glow will move to the right _together with the window it was highlighting_. After doing this, window selection graphics work properly. This means I have to double tap section in order to switch windows within an application. Also, if I type alt+section really, really fast, the switcher window does not appear, and then the window switching works as expected. Expected behavior: 1. Alt+section should highlight the window that will actually be selected. 2. I should not need to hold alt and double tap section to change to the next window within an application. One section key press should be enough. I am afraid then that this bug has to be marked invalid since it can not be reproduced again for a developer to fix it. ** Changed in: unity (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. Matching subscriptions: dp-unity https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1049279 Title: Launcher shows progress for every item and missing items Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: The launcher is drawing items incorrectly. The visible items all have a progress bar shown, though no progress is initiated by those apps. Some items are pushed 'up' and not visible, though if I move the mouse into the blank spaces I get hovers for the items I can't see. The hovers display at the proper Y location, however they trigger at the wrong Y location. The mouse triggers the hovers roughly proportional in the empty space (IE, if the space is 320px tall and I'm missing 4 items then every 80px I move up triggers the next item). Note that the visible items all have proper hovers and display menus. They behave proper, other than showing progress bars. I am not sure what triggered this bug. I first noticed it when I saw the launcher visible on my lock screen, though it may have occurred prior to that. I do not have steps to reproduce (I have only seen this happen once). [Desktop-packages] [Bug 993537] Re: Sidebar does not always appear if mouse is moved to the left
Thank you for taking your time to report this bug to make Ubuntu better. From Ubuntu 12.04, the launcher is designed to reveal only when applying pressure (nudge). This is to avoid accidental revealing of the launcher. Previously users in 11.04 and 11.10 accidentally revealed the launcher when they were trying to click on the back button on Firefox which was annoying. To tackle this issue the Unity developer made the launcher to reveal not when the mouse is present on the left edge of the screen but rather when you push against the left screen. Hence marking this invalid since it is as per design and not a bug. ** Changed in: unity (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. I do see a shadow (on the left side, only a couple of pixels width). To get the sidebar to appear, I have to move the mouse up and down on that left side. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 993783] Re: unity launcher steals mouse motion on dual-head display
Thank you for taking your time to report this bug to make Ubuntu better. This behavior of stealing mouse movement is due to the sticky edge option. You can disable it at Gnome System Settings - Displays - Uncheck sticky edge. This will allow smooth movement across the displays. Also for better movement you can also set the launcher to be shown always. One of the reasons for implementing sticky edge is to help reveal the launcher when it is in auto-hide. ** Changed in: unity (Ubuntu) Status: New = Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. Fair enough, it can be configured to hide itself. But it steals mouse movement strongly, so that a rapid mouse move from one screen to the other causes a long delay at the screen boundary -- longer than the cross- screen mouse move, so quite an interruption. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 991846] Re: Provide Static quicklist support for LibreOffice grey's icon
Thank you for reporting this bug to make Ubuntu better. The quicklist code you have mentioned in your code is outdated. It has been replaced with the new convention. This is illustrated below, [Desktop Action Writer] Name=Text Document Exec=libreoffice -writer %U OnlyShowIn=Unity; You can read more about this at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Unity/LauncherAPI#Static_Quicklist_entries. Can you branch the libreoffice code, apply your patch and push this. We will try to merge this into Ubuntu and Upstream as well? @Other Unity developers This bug is not a duplicate of https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/720716 since that bug report only provide static quicklist support for writer, calc and impress. Chris Coulson, I basically read wikipedia about thunderbird where it described it as Thunderbird aims to be a simple email, newsgroup and news feed client. This isn't optimal because the choice of the workspace you work on is based on the windows displayed on it, and it's much harder to find the right workspace with an unwanted help screen in front of your windows. Slightly off topic but still closely related to that bug : I was looking for the rationale behind this keyboard shortcut change, I skimmed through the latest unity and compiz commits and bug reports and the unity-design mailing list but couldn't find anything, I must have missed it while searching so if someone could point me to (or tell me) why this change was made, I'd greatly appreciate it. The CtrlAltArrows shortcuts is really universal on the Free Desktop and has been there for years. I'm not saying that it's forbidden to change it, but if someone did then he must want a pretty good reason to do so. That's the info I'm looking for. Matching subscriptions: dp-unity https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/939956 Title: Shortcuts containing the Super key invoke the unity dash or help overlay Status in Unity: Triaged Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: The unity dash and the Keyboard Shortcuts help overlay should not be displayed when Super is pressed in combination with any other key - even if it's just another modifier or if no other action is associated with the combination. This situation has become worse after the new keyboard shortcuts landed in today's updates. Cases: 1. Press Super+Shift+Arrow to switch to a different desktop, releasing the key combo very quickly. The unity dash will open. 2. Hold Super+Shift while you use the arrow keys to find the desktop you are looking for. The help overlay will display, covering the desktop. 3. Press Super+Ctrl, then realize you were going for Super+Shift, and depending on whether you've released Super or not you'll be presented with the dash or the help overlay, when you were obviously trying to do something else. 4. Similarly, mistype Super+1 (to open, say, nautilus) as Super+q, releasing quickly. You'll be shown the dash, even though you were obviously trying to do something else. This does not happen when you release Super+1 quickly, so I assume the dash is being inhibited specifically when a shortcut exists for the combination - it should also be inhibited when no shorcut is associated with it. This would fire up firefox -new-window. A proper rationale for this change is explained in comment #5 below. Moreover, according to comments by didrocks on bug #709707, we need to patch up desktop files to make up for the dropped 'Open a new window of this application' feature in Unity. My patch to fix that in Unity was rejected, and hence we had to follow the procedure of adding this feature to only those applications which support multiple instances. Once we get a UIFe for both the string additions, then we will upload the change for 'Open a New Window', with the 'Open a New Tab' change following soon. Both these changes have been announced to the ubuntu- doc and ubuntu-translators MLs, and the translations for both of these have been set up on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Translations/Wanted/FirefoxDesktop . Moreover, the translated strings for 3 locales have already been merged with the desktop file in the attached debdiff. The 'Open a New Tab' change later will also incorporate the translations for both the strings done till that point of time. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 741046] Re: [UIFe] Please add unity quicklist item for 'new window' and maybe 'new tab'
It has been requested to include a quicklist option to Open a new Tab. However I think this is redundant since you can do this from File-New Tab and also from the new tab button present always. Hence I suggest the following quicklist for firefox. Open a new window Open firefox in Safe Mode Switch between Private/Normal mode Firefox Web Browser Unlock from Launcher Quit -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to firefox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/741046 Title: [UIFe] Please add unity quicklist item for 'new window' and maybe 'new tab' Status in “firefox” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: Binary package hint: firefox A Unity static quicklist item that opens up a new window would be nice.
