[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1517058] Re: network manager does not connect to AP anymore
downgrading the respective firmware to an older release helped. the system was loading iwlwifi-7260-15.ucode which seemed to be the source of trouble. Removing any firmware but iwlwifi-7260-10.ucode allows me to reliably connect to my network again. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to network-manager in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1517058 Title: network manager does not connect to AP anymore Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: network manager does not connect to my AP anymore, tries to authenticate and then asks for a password (of a previously connected wifi network). Original description: David and the security team (inspired by an observation from Rick) discussed that when recording, pulseaudio should somehow unobtrusively show the user that it is recording. The easiest thing to do would be for pulseaudio to alert indicator-sound which would then turn its icon red (similar to indicator-message turning blue with new messages). Marking 'high' because apps with access to pulseaudio can currently eavedrop on users. If the app is allowed to do networking (the default for apps), then it can ship that information off to a server somewhere. Note 1, the alert to indicator-sound must happen via the out of process pulseaudio server and not the confined app itself to be effective. Note 2, we should consider how to enforce this for foreground apps only. Application lifecycle should probably handle this for 13.10 (apps are suspended if not in foreground or if the screensaver is on), but we don't want an app on the converged device to record in the background when the user isn't paying attention. Example eavesdropping attack: start recording only when the screensaver is on (perhaps inhibiting the screensaver during recording would be enough). [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1384776] Re: Occasional hang in unity 8 dash on the phone
** Tags added: touch-2014-10-30 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to network-manager in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1384776 Title: Occasional hang in unity 8 dash on the phone Status in “network-manager” package in Ubuntu: In Progress Status in “unity8” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: The dash is sometimes hanging on the phone. See the attached backtrace. The issue is as follows: we are maintaining a client-side tree of all NetworkManager devices. When we see that a new device has been added, we query its properties in order to build our local proxy. Doing this means that we are making QtDBus calls from a signal handler. Due to a bug in QtDBus this is not safe. libdbus-1 has a recursive lock on its DBusConnection. When the signal arrives, the lock is acquired and the sginal handler is run. The signal handler can make DBus calls (which also require the lock) because the lock is recursive. QtDBus also has a lock that is always acquired before the libdbus-1 connection lock is acquired. Unfortuntaely, the QtDBus lock is not acquired in the case of the incoming call from DBus -- only the DBus lock is. If another thread tries to do an unrelated DBus call meanwhile, it will acquire the QtDBus lock first and then the DBus lock (which is held because of the signal that arrived). Once the signal handler gets to the point of wanting to make a DBus call (in order to query the properties of the just-added network device) it will attempt to acquire the QtDBus lock. This is a lock-inversion deadlock. There are at least three bugs here: 1) QtDBus should be fixed in order to avoid this sort of lock inversion problem. Even if we fix this one situation, it seems quite likely that issues like this will arise again. 2) QNetworkManager should avoid the issue in QtDBus until such a time as it is fixed. This could be done by dispatching to a worker thread on receipt of signals so that the queries are done in a fresh call stack (without the libdbus-1 lock held). 3) Apparently the only reason we are using NetworkManager at all is in order to know if we are on a 3G connection or not (in order to avoid too much data charges). This would be much easier to do if NetworkManager provided a property that we could watch directly instead of bringing up an entire tree of objects in order to answer a very simple question. To that end I've filed https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=739080 which we can hopefully get addressed relatively quickly. I consider 3) to be the real fix as far as we are concerned, but we should probably ensure that the Qt people know about 1) and 2). Either of those could function as a workaround for us in the meantime, but the idea that we are creating this complex object tree to answer a simple question is ridiculous, so we should really fix that directly. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1154229] Re: [FFE] New Unity Dash
After a recent review we have come to the conclusion that this feature is not at a stage that we'd like to see in Ubuntu and thus we are not pursuing to push this feature into Ubuntu 13.04. Instead, we will be landing it in 13.10 once the current issues are resolved. Ubuntu Users will be able to still use the feature by installing it from a Ubuntu R based PPA which will be rebased with any relevant R update. We will update this bug once the relevant details are documented. In the course of the next couple of days we will also clean up this bug report with the necessary actions for R S. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1154229] Re: [FFE] New Unity Dash
Release team, we appreciate your support and would like to work with you as closely as possible to get the change in and enhance Ubuntu all together. I can understand the concerns about missed deadlines and am apologizing on behalf of the team for the troubled caused. Here is what we think is happening and I would like to get your feedback to adjust things as quickly as possible: - the team will take the ambiguity of the title New Unity Stack out by providing a better summary of affected components in order to help your assessment - didrocks has set up PPAs to get test coverage in, first feedback is coming back already (based on the -prevalidation PPA). The PPAs are equivalent to the ones used for daily landing, except for pulling from a feature branch - we will engage with Nicholas Skaggs to get additional test coverage - while parts are ready to land now, the API changes render all dependencies unusable and we have been advised that it would be preferable to land everything in one go, rather in smaller iterations. Let us know your opinion - the targeted landing on our end into the PPAs is 3/22 - I had offered help earlier to your team, if there is anything we can possibly do (screenshots?), let me know Please note that the privacy settings as outlined in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SmartScopes1304Spec will be landing in the PPA next week, the early version you can access today does not have all required pieces yet. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gwibber in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1154229 Title: [FFE] New Unity Dash Status in “gwibber” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Status in “libunity” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Status in “unity-lens-applications” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Status in “unity-lens-files” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Status in “unity-lens-music” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Status in “unity-lens-photos” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Status in “unity-lens-shopping” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Status in “unity-scope-gdrive” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: A new version of Unity's Dash, libunity APIs, the default and new 100 scopes, with a target date of March 25th for landing in Raring. This can be very frustrating if you live in a place where everyone's network is named linksys. Insofar as this presents the user with potentially confusing or ambiguous connection options it allows an attacker to set up their own network mirroring the existing network's SSID and thus encourage illegitimate connections. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 958007] Re: First switching of the keyboard layout doesn't update the layout indicator
** Changed in: ubuntu-indicator-mods Status: New = Confirmed ** Changed in: ubuntu-indicator-mods Importance: Undecided = Low -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/958007 Title: First switching of the keyboard layout doesn't update the layout indicator Status in Ubuntu network, Bluetooth, keyboard menus: Confirmed Status in “gnome-settings-daemon” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Good day! I am reporting this bug after this one has been fixed: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/oneiric/+source/gnome-settings-daemon/+bug/885730 This is because an issue remained with incorrect keyboard layout displaying by the indicator. The problem is in the first keyboard layout switching right after start of an application. The first switching leads to actual change of the layout but it is not followed by the indicator change. To reproduce: 1) Start any application (say, gedit). The layout is en and the indicator shows also en. 2) Switch the layout to the other. The layout will actually be changed but the indicator will still show en which is incorrect. And one more observation. If you do something (press Alt to reveal HUD, switch to another window and then return back) before the first layout change, the indicator will react correctly after that. Also, I can reproduce this within both settings Use the same layout for all windows and Allow different layouts for individual windows. Thank you! P.S. This is my first bug report, so if something is wrong, I give my sincere apology. Please correct me then.
