[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1179748] Re: Idea: Add a Thunderbird Icon to Unity
Further to comment #4, 6 years later on and with no further comments I'm closing this. Too much of a major change to retain any longer as a "Wishlist" item. ** Changed in: thunderbird (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to thunderbird in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1179748 Title: Idea: Add a Thunderbird Icon to Unity Status in thunderbird package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: I would like to offer a suggestion. I would find it useful to have a "Thunderbird Daemon" that has an icon in the icon bar at the top. This daemon would watch my email account for emails and use notify-send to inform me. This would be better than checking often or leaving the whole program GUI running. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1179748] Re: Idea: Add a Thunderbird Icon to Unity
I do not think the Ubuntu Mozilla Team plans to add something like this and I know that upstream in Thunderbird we have no plans to add something like that. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to thunderbird in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1179748 Title: Idea: Add a Thunderbird Icon to Unity Status in “thunderbird” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: I would like to offer a suggestion. Isn't this what the Messaging Menu is supposed to do? [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1179748] Re: Idea: Add a Thunderbird Icon to Unity
No. I will explain my idea clearly. My idea comes from Ubuntu One. For illistration, I boot up my computer and login. On startup, Ubuntu One has an icon in the icon bar at the top. When I change files that are to be synced, Ubuntu One handles that immediately. I do not need to run the program manually, it handles all of this on its own without requiring that a Ubuntu One manager window be up. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1179748] Re: Idea: Add a Thunderbird Icon to Unity
Specifically, what I want is for Thunderbird to run as a daemon when I run my system. Then, Thunderbird will watch my RSS feeds and email account without me constantly opening Thunderbird or leaving the window open.
