[Desktop-packages] [Bug 881284] Re: Wired ICS constantly reconnecting
Using the steps above will actually lead to a broken ICS connection, probably; because ICS doesn't seem to work well with IPv6 (and either way, dnsmasq can't provide v6 addresses). As a further step, make sure you go to the IPv6 tab as well and set IPv6 method to Ignore, I think this will resolve the issue in most cases on 11.10. ** Changed in: network-manager (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Incomplete ** Changed in: network-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Low -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to network-manager in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/881284 Title: Wired ICS constantly reconnecting Status in “network-manager” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: I often find myself using my laptop to supply internet connection to my other computer which does not have a wireless interface. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 881284] Re: Wired ICS constantly reconnecting
Here is an example for wireless ad-hoc connections. Steps to reproduce: In the network manager on the host computer, add a wireless connection, set an SSID, set mode to ad-hoc and IP-v4 settings to shared. Expected: Other users can connect to the wireless network of the host and use its internet connection continuously. Actual: Clients may be able to connect and intermittently have internet access and the host keeps connecting and disconnecting every 2-3 seconds. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to network-manager in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/881284 Title: Wired ICS constantly reconnecting Status in “network-manager” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I often find myself using my laptop to supply internet connection to my other computer which does not have a wireless interface. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 881284] Re: Wired ICS constantly reconnecting
It is the only workaround I know of as well, using Backbox 2 (which is based on Ubuntu 11.04). I would like to use Ubuntu 11.10 for this instead, since I only use Backbox at work (mostly). For now however, I will use Backbox until the bug is fixed.
I do have exactly the same problem on 2 different notebooks (32bit and 64bit)! It seems like Shared to other computers doesn't work anymore (wifi and lan, so i think its a problem with ip handling and not a driver problem?)... my workaround was reinstalling Ubuntu 11.04, where everything works fine... ;-) I might add, that the first time, after a reboot, the connection shared with other computers works for about 10 seconds, after that it disconnects and every consecutive trial to reconnect will by disconnected imediatly... Also I think this is a huge bug, because it will probably affect many people and affects pretty basic funktions like sharing a mobile internet connection with other computers. Is there any other workaround then mine, yet? Thanks for helping!
