Unnecesary filestructure on images

2013-08-10 Thread Alexandro Colorado
I think the image structure on the website is a bit messy, there has been
some cleanup done by kschenk but I think there is still a lot of clean up
work to be done.

For example, the new logo, was simply draged and drop to the AOOLogos
folder with a huge name. I understand the name was needed to identify it
between the rest of the competitive logos. But now that is selected, the
current name is unecessary long.

Apache_OpenOffice_Logo_ChrisR_selected_2013-06_optim_300w.png

At the same time we have old logos which had been untouch. I think the
webdevs have small understanding of a svn is builted so that the files are
updated without having different versions laying arround. Over this
example, ooo-logo.png and
AOO4_website_logo.pngexist.

All these proliferation of logos, usually will built up to become
incredibly messy to work. I suggest to put the information such as author,
version, status, etc. on the comments of the commit and not on the
filename. Likewise to take the time to look for the source of the image,
since there is an SVG/ folder to link the source of them, and finally if
there are different images (sizes) to have a common convention.

If you want to review the images please go here:
http://svn.apache.org/viewvc/openoffice/ooo-site/trunk/content/images/AOO_logos/

Shouldn't you discuss this on the forum to see what the forum users want? Previous changes were

Some of these mails are encourage by the content from "intro modules". The
goal is to start engaging the new contributors with the rest of the
community. I think automated mail will discourage this first encounter.

Also we actually want to know what are their skillsets and suggest areas
where they can be most helpful.

I didn't want to go with a monochrome since I think it makes it too plain

Actually, Alexandro's suggestion is not worse than what we have now. It
is meant to replace the (now outdated and honestly out of any OpenOffice
branding guidelines) forum header, see
http://forum.openoffice.org/en/forum/ with something that at least uses
the correct logo.

Not sure what are you talking about. AFAIK the current images from the
forum header are pretty different from the logo. I talked about this with
imacat a while ago, but nothing really was done at the time.

With the new logo, it's best to remove all the extra elements (seagulls
or eagles?) from the forums header. Perhaps the right thing to do would
be to have a monochrome variant (white in this case, since the
background is blue) of the official logo, the one at
http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/openoffice/branding/ , that looks nice
in the forum header. It will be quite tricky to get the orb right, since
it would be blue on blue...

For the MySQL updates we can surely do it, as the

For the OS updates the best we can do is probably put a notice on the

thanks for your mail, the db size of all forums (different languages) is
about 700Gb on disk.

when you compare 20+ with a couple of GB of physical memory, you compare
virtual memory with physical memory, that kind of difficult to do. We need
more phys memory on the system, actually the virtual memory (swap) is big
enough.

you can edit the files "calc.xcd", "writer.xcd" and "impress.xcd" in
"C:\Program Files (x86)\OpenOffice 4\share\registry" for example:

from: writer8
to:MS Word 97

from calc8
to:MS Excel 97

from: impress8
to:MS PowerPoint
97

but be carefull - make a copy first and use a xml editor ;-)

I can't say to be an expert (and I may be badly reading these number,
that's nothing new :P), but that seems a lot of memory for a forum.
I mean, I have seen that scale (20+ GB) only on a forum with a database
the size of 40+ GB (with some 4/5/600 users online simultaneously).

The current db size of the en forum (judging by the number of posts)
should be around... ~1/1.5 GB. And summing up all the other forums you'd
have no more than 2 or 3 GB.
Okay, a couple of GB of physical memory may be not much to handle all of
them, but 20+ seems a lot.

temporary patch for BasicAddonBuilder

2013-08-10 Thread Jörg Schmidt
Hello,

I had reported problems with BasicAddonBuilder in AOO 4.0, see:
http://mail-archives.apache.org/mod_mbox/openoffice-dev/201308.mbox/%3cCEA36B047734466CBDAC3A918A7F9E99@Esprimo7935%3e

The following describes a preliminary troubleshooting.

Requirements:
You have AOO 4.0 and BasicAddonBuilder 0.5.0 installed.

do the following:

1.
download http://calc-info.de/files/patch_for_bab.xcu

2.
Install the downloaded file (patch_for_bab.xcu) with the Extension-Manager.

*It is important to note that the installation is carried out within the same
context, such as the installation of BasicAddonBuilder. That means either the
'current user' OR 'all users'.*

3.
Download http://calc-info.de/files/new_code_for_CreateAddonsXcu.txt

4.
Replace in the Basic Library "BasicAddonBuilder" in the module "PkgExporter"
the macro "Sub CreateAddonsXcu ()" with the content of the downloaded file
"new_code_for_CreateAddonsXcu.txt". Press Store (STRG + S) in the Basic-DIE.

5.
Done.

Comments and bug reports are welcome.

Note:
I do not want to create a new version of the extension "BasicAddonBuilder" at
the moment, because I wrote Paolo and asked that he please do that.
If he does not do that in the next few days, I will publish a complete new
version of the extension.

Greetings,
Jörg

OpenOffice Multi-User Settings

2013-08-10 Thread tech
Hello Dev-Team,

We use OpenOffice in our organization with a multi-user setting (server
computer and terminal users). We were running version 3.4.1 and everyone
had entered their config. settings on file-type to be saved as .doc, .ppt,
.xls.. But after upgrading to version 4.0.0, the settings are back to
default. Is there a way that I can enter the settings from the server and
it reflects on all the user accounts? or it has to be done for every user
account allover again?

Thanks

You must not have downloaded from www.openoffice.org/download. From that site
there are no add-ons integrated wth the OpenOffice dowenload. I recomeend that
you remove the program entirely, run a virus and malware scan, then redownload
from the above site only (or as redirected by it to Sourceforge) and reinstall
again.

To remove the faulty program entirely you may need to use something like
RevoUninstaller at its most aggressive settings.

Hi.

We have now reconfigured mysql, and arist has optimized all myisam tables,
so now it actually runs pretty good.

BUT I would still loke to do updates, so the vm enters a maintainable
status, with good stable versions. In order to that I need to schedule
downtime.

We had a long discussion in infra, and it is not possible to do a parallel
vm, due to the size of this vm, so we have to do inline (of course with
backups etc).

Jira https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/INFRA-6652 tracks this issue.

The downtime will be in 3 blocks:

1) Patch mysql 5.1 to highest 5.1 patch level
This is needed to convert tables to innodb.
Approx. downtime: 2-3 hours
when: a.s.a.p.

2) update ubuntu 10.04 to 12.04 and add puppet with security measured
(standard infra)
 Approx. downtime 1 day
 When: next weekend

3) Update mysql to 5.6 and upgrade db.
 Approx. downtime 1 day
 When: next weekend.

Any thought about this ?

If anybody is strict against it, with a good reason, please give it a -1.

Much as I would like to help, I regret I cannot. I am sole carer for my 93 year
old mother, who is mentally OK, but can only walk short distances using a
wheeled walking aid. I am liable to interruption at any hour of the day or
night 24/7, so cannot involve myself in any detailed long term project,
especially requiring extreme concentration, as would familiarisation with SQL
or phpBB.

My Forum involvement suits the intermittent nature of my availability, as
queries are often quickly answered.

This would also make the coming test a lot easier, I am sure what really to
test, because I am not a daily user.

It would also be a good time, to update things like e.g. logo and signature
