Hello Chris, OpenOffice is mainly created in C++, but also uses some
Python, Javascript and Java for it's scripting layer. It even has it's own
implementation of Basic.

You are welcome to contribute and improve on OpenOffice by joining the
development team and reviewing the bugs that have been approved by the QA
team.

Getting back to the old (working) behavior is the only reasonable thing

AOO with database MariaDB (2)

Hallo,

4.0.1, FALSCH: openSUSE 11.3 - RICHTIG: openSUSE 13.1)

-mit AOO habe ich jetzt folgende Probleme
1)
Formular/Writer/Datenbank

WAHR (1) funktionieren. Ein Umschaltung des Markierfeldes auf nur zwei
Werte bringt keine Besserung.

Double-Wert, damit meine Makros weiterhin funktionieren.

Apr 1, 2014 GA? (I like this date if possible)

In general I agree with the schedule, but what strikes me here is the 2
months between the translation deadline and the RC1. I know the
 integration
work takes time, but 2 months seem excessive. This would mean that a
translation completed in February must already wait for the (possible)
 language update release.

In this time period we also have a public beta release. That is the
where the additional time goes. If we want translations in the beta
(why wouldn't we?) then we end up with a schedule like this.

I think a beta is a good idea, could we please agree to name it something
like beta1 to differentiate it from RC1, which is something internal to me.

some time ago we have discussed a language only release on base of
4.0.1. And even a language release requires a lot of work. Until today
 I
see 3 potential languages ready which is not enough from my
 perspective.

We are now at 4 new languages at 100% (bg, da, nb, th). Even if your
proposed schedule (new version) is respected, this means that Danish,
 that
was completed back in October just after the 4.0.1 release, would stay
unreleased until April. Thanks to your and Herbert's work we will have
snapshots available for those languages from the buildbots in a couple
 days,
so most of the integration work has already been done. Wouldn't it make
sense to release 4.0.1 in the additional 4 languages in January, to avoid
 the 6-months gap?

This sounds like a good idea to me, a language refresh like we did with
 3.4.1.

If I remember right, we did not make a new version, just release the new
languages (incl. danish) for the same version.

exactly, we released the new languages (full install + language pack)
and an updated source release including the sdf files for the new languages.

We can of course do that as soon Pootle is talking to me again
(INFRA-7160, potentially an upgrade problem). If we do a language only
release we should include Hindi which is UI complete as well.

Let's pick up this again when Pootle is working and I can synchronize
the latest updates for this new languages.

We can't do that today. The way to go is to introduce a configure option
and then walk through all the modules that depends or are requisites of
helpcontent2. This will require some time and a deeper analysis of what
is depending or triggered by the help files.

But with a new and improved build system it should become much faster to
build with more languages. It's really annoying today and a very poor
design in way how translation files are handled today in some modules.
Room for improvements everywhere ;-)

Issue of Key events being handled twice, impacting accessibility with loss of object focus

2014-01-06 Thread V Stuart Foote
The errant double handling of cursor key events is a problem for
Accessibility support of assistive technologies where program focus is being
shifted away from the active object; e.g. writer - selected text for
formatting, calc - cell being formated, etc.

Current issues in BZ:

bug 122363 https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=122363
bug 123933 https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=123933
bug 123934 https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=123934

I had thought the issue was isolated to sidebar Gtk UI, but when Andre F.
looked at it in May it was a broader issue. I don't think it ever got any
further attention and has resurfaced during QA for 4.1.0.

Please have a look at our new READ-ONLY git mirror.

That's great news, thanks! Kudos to Jake. Having a reference
git-repository will allow us to do some nifty things:

I'll prepare some git-packs with pre-AOO history from its older
Mercurial, Subversion and maybe even from its CVS-based open-source
ancestors. Using git's graft facilities this will make it much
easier to research the history of parts of the codebase where noone is
left to tell the story or its details. Having the individual commit
comments and their issue numbers is invaluable then.

Is there a gitweb or similar frontend to our git-mirror? Then we could
e.g. provide a link from the nightly builds to their respective
version history.

As expected in my JIRA-request the two-level deep svn-branches (i.e.
alg/aw080 and alg/sysdepgs) have been munged into one git-branch...

These are my branches and I am concerned, these contain quite some work.
I think that adding some more strutcture as I did by adding my branches
to an own directory is in general not a bad thing, so if this could be
made to work with the git mirror somehow easily, this would be the
easiest way for now.

The alternative would be to somehow 'move' these branches, e.g.

branches/alg/aw080 - branches/alg_aw080
branches/alg/sysdepgs - branches/alg_sysdepgs

If it is intended to have a flat hierarchy in the branches subdirectory
I will try to do so and I am open to suggestions how to do that without
immense new amounts of commits and similar stuff. I currently see no
easy way to do this with svn, but maybe some experts could help with
suggestions here.

Thanks for the git clone!
Looking forward to suggestions..

Also the symphony branch is missing because it was checked into svn at
a non-canonic location so the git-mirror couldn't pick it up.

Once everybody is happy, we can consider moving fully to GIT, I will
however recommend to it imidiatly after next release.

I'll have to adjust the svn2bz bot, we'll have to adjust the buildbots
and there are some other scripts that have to be updated before we can
think about a full switch.

But I look forward to git's proper author attributions, interactive
rebasing, intact individual commits after merges, nice cherry-picks, etc.

Hello Vadim, screenshots are removed on this mailing list, so it is

However, I tried with my latest build and I see nothing wrong if I do

1) Create a new Impress Document
2) Format - Character - Font Effects
3) I click on font Color (this reveals the dropdown)
4) I use the mouse wheel to move up and down the list

At step 4 I always see the color properly updated. Am I doing the
correct procedure?

Need to move mouse cursor over the list to see correct colors.
Could you please help me to determinate where is a problem and how it

Due to my finding problem is in C:\...trunk\main\cui\wntmsci12.pro

I don't know if Armin is around these days: he's the expert in this

how to resolve it.

Hi Vadim and Andrea,

I tried to reproduce this, but I could not find any problems in the
AOO401 win version. The used DropList is the same as in all places in

Vadim, it may be that you have a screen update/repaint problem in your
concrete combination of AOO and OS used. Could you please retry to
reproduce this and if it still happens (and probably in more places
where the drop down color list is used) please give more information about

- what version of AOO you are using (help/about)
- what OS and in which configuration (esp. graphic stuff, e.g. remote or

Thanks in advance!

The main value it brings is that we will have a common (and lightweight)

 will
make it easier to include new volunteers later, or promote existing

Normally a word processor adds pages as the flow of text requires. So longer
text, more pages, less text, fewer pages. If, however, you wish to add a new
page, perhaps to start a chapter or to insert an illustration or a table or
something, try
/Insert /Manual break /Page Break.

If you know about Page Styles, you can select the Page Style required from the
dropdown on that dialog at the same time. If you do not select a specific page
style, you get the default page style. If against a deadline this is the best
way to go.

Should we do another? Maybe with the restriction that it does not

It was interesting. It would be good to repeat. And restricting it to
unanswered questions would help in discussing new topics (even though we
will surely get some questions that we already answered last year, no
matter how much we insist on that in the instructions).

I’ve tried googling the issue but can’t seem to access the folders

You need to delete the file org.openoffice.script.savedState. It is
in the Saved Application State folder in your User/Library.

See this post on the user forum for detailed instructions:

when snipping off everything after the html then it opens a very old

As discussed here, they are so obsolete that nobody can find them useful
any longer.

So I've removed the content from these two pages:

http://www.openoffice.org/porting/mac/faq/installing/ooo_x11.html

http://www.openoffice.org/porting/mac/faq/installing/X11.html

There's a lot of outdated information around, but since these specific
pages were confusing it's good to remove them.

Just feel that there might be allot of people who’d like to see a decent
shot of how the individual applications look on both MAC and PC.

If there actually are screen shots somewhere they weren’t were I would of
expected them to immediately and readily be when I went to the Link to
 learn more about Open Office.

From the home page, if you click Product on the top menu you come to a
page that links to app-specific pages, one each for Write, Calc, Impress,
etc. Each one of those has a screenshot. So they are there, but it does
take a few clicks.

I think this comes down to the purpose of the homepage. Right now it is
very task-oriented. If you want to do X, go here, etc. But it is lite on
selling the value of OpenOffice, persuading the user that they should try
it. Definitely room for improvement.

Possible filename problem on Win 8.1: request for help

2014-01-06 Thread Rory O'Farrell
On en-Forum a user has reported a problem with single character file names from
OO 4.0.1 Calc and Writer, running on Win 8.1
https://forum.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6t=66773

He can open and save such files, but is not permitted to resave them. Could
someone with Win 8.1 please check this out?

The workaround is obviously to use longer, meaningful file names, but this
problem, if confirmed, might indicate a parsing diffiulty with the filename
and/or its lock file.
