The outcome, with no need of dedicated discussions, is that the best

  2) We agree that Ed will point oooforum.org to something like

did an rsync of the site but was too large to hold on his client. Maybe AOO
could share a space to rsync there as a read-only. And then perform some
cleanup to tag spam posts and delete the pages. 100G should do it IMO.

Problem is that it was not able to package up what was needed so that it
could be downloaded. I have plenty of storage to have been able to
 download it.

I did a scrape of the pages, and it is about 8GB last time I did it. Off
hand, I expect that a huge chunk of that is SPAM, especially since most
of the SPAMS have large graphics included. I considered writing a PERL
script to clean that based on certain search criteria, but, it just
feels like a huge annoyance to spend hours removing posts and then
trolling the rest of the files to rearrange all of the links so that
things continue to function. So, I did not start the clean-up process
 from my scrape.

A possible method to speed a clean-up might be to leave the spamposting in
place (to maintain the structure), but to delete the content, replacing it with
a Spam deleted flag. Not terribly elegant but could probably be done
automatically.

I'll try to provide one for the plugfest. I'll probably have it running
on my notebook in a dedicated virtual machine.

as some of you will know we have the 10th ODF plugfest coming up next
week, hosted by the UK Cabinet Office [1] - for which you are all
invited, of course. For that purpose (and to support the UK government
migration to ODF) we are working hard on Officeshots.org. Officeshots is
an automated validation and testing infrastructure that contains
instances of many different office applications (and potentially
different versions), and can be used to see how documents will be opened
and rendered by other ODF consuming applications.

It would be really awesome if someone from the Apache OpenOffice
community would set up a copy of AOO for Officeshots.org (ideally on
multiple platforms and both a trunk version and a release, but lets
start with the basics). This is not a very difficult or time consuming
thing to do, and it can run on a desktop in the background or on a small
virtual machine somewhere. It would however be very useful for interop
testing, because all test documents created during the plugfest can be
automatically pushed to it. Also, the upcoming ODF Autotests
infrastructure can use the same infrastructure.

The manual for installing a factory can be found here:

Detection of MathML

2014-12-05 Thread Regina Henschel

Hi all,

AOO 4.1.1 opens XHTML files which contain only a math-element in module
Math and can import such files and convert them to StarMath. Current
trunc (AOO4.2?) does it not, but presents the generic text filter for
selecting an encoding.

Does someone remember of any recent changes in filter detection?

I come across this when looking at

Kind regards

RE: [Wiki] Corrupted page

2014-12-05 Thread Dennis E. Hamilton
I'm seeing it corrupted just now using Windows 8.1 and IE 11. About 2 hours
ago, I saw it just fine.

This is not a character-set encoding issue. It is being served as UTF8 and it
does not improve if I change the encoding in my browser.

It strikes me as a compression failure, since there is no meaningful text
recognizable among the non-rendered codes. If I view source, there are no
headers. Since we're forcing https on the Wiki it could also be an encryption
problem in SSL/TLS. It could also be that the .Z filename is tripping up some
browsers in conjunction with whatever the headers are.

I did a wget on the URL and I obtained the HTML of the page just fine. When I
changed the TEST.Z file name to TEST_Z.htm after getting a copy on my machine,
I could open the page in my browser locally (although the images are not
present).

With a wget -E --save-headers
Command on the URL I get this:

HTTP/1.1 200 OK
Date: Fri, 05 Dec 2014 18:02:51 GMT
Server: ATS/3.2.0

Keep-Alive: timeout=5, max=100
Connection: Keep-Alive
Transfer-Encoding: chunked

!DOCTYPE html
html lang=en dir=ltr class=client-nojs
head
[ ... etc ... ]

It is unfortunate that lang=en is specified, but that should not matter for the
handling of UTF-8.

I suspect that this is a compression problem. Either the file is not being
compressed, so decompression produces a mess, or there is some weirdness around
the forcing of https.

French Documentation Pages

2014-12-05 Thread Dennis E. Hamilton
I was looking around to see whether there are other page corruption problems on
French-language pages.

This page http://www.openoffice.org/fr/Documentation/Calc/

Revealed two problems.

 1. The page serves up as English, so the language pull-down in the upper right
corner is incorrect.
 2. The page serves up as Western European (ISO), when it is actually in UTF-8.
When I correct that in my browser, the characters render properly.

These are both consequences of what appear to be defaults in my browser and the
lack of any details to the contrary in the page that is served up.

I am not certain how to capture this. I could create an issue but the main
problem has to do with needing to review the site page by page to see what is
being served-up incorrectly, and how that comes about.

With my today-acquired wget -E --save-headers superpowers, I can confirm this
about the above URL:

HTTP/1.1 200 OK
Date: Fri, 05 Dec 2014 19:18:23 GMT

Accept-Ranges: bytes
Vary: Accept-Encoding
Keep-Alive: timeout=30, max=100
Connection: Keep-Alive
Transfer-Encoding: chunked
Content-Type: text/html

## Note the lack of any character-encoding information.

Note the absence of the Content-Encoding header entry that comes from the
problematic page, below.

It would be great if Content-language were correct along with the html lang
attribute, but that is not so serious.

Peter,
I use OpenOffice on several machines, Mac and Windows, and “operate” a variety
of MS files and formats, from .docx and .xlsx to the earlier sort. I have not
had difficulty opening and editing and then saving *as* MSFT files. Depending
on the document, the fidelity of translation, from MSFT Office to Apache
OpenOffice, is very good. With Excel, one can easily run into issues, should
the original Excel document include a wealth of macros, formulae, and so on.

Does this help?

I have seen and used OpenOffice on an implementation of the Linux Terminal
Server Project. There’s a Wikipedia article on the project,
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linux_Terminal_Server_Project. An article from
2009 describes LTSP + Ubuntu: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuLTSP/Tour

I used to strongly advocate thin clients using OpenOffice as good solutions,
especially for schools. However, nowadays, it’s rare to find anyone who will
even use the term, “thin client.” Blame it on tablets and the lure of pretty
things :-)

One can also use nowadays various “cloud” solution where OpenOffice is run on a
sever and the user windows into it on his or her local machine. RollApp, for
instance, does something like that. It’s not alone.

 2. Can we open latest version MS office file with is version and in

Yes. As with any editing of MS Office, much depends on the file. Rule of thumb
is that the more complex the file and the older it is, the likelier one will
encounter formatting issues. These can be aggravating but as more and more move
to modern systems and installations, they are more infrequent.

You would need to have a webserver for that. AOO webcast only generate the
htmls/css. You can upload to a internal webserver and share it with the
network.

2- can we make plugins for open office or amend anything in open office ?

Yes AOO has an API that can be used with JAVA, Javascript, Python, and a

Hello ! there were some question in my mind.
1- Can we share the 'Open Office' document with multiple users at a time ?
 I
want to show specific presentation to many users on their screen

You would need to have a webserver for that. AOO webcast only generate the
htmls/css. You can upload to a internal webserver and share it with the
network.

2- can we make plugins for open office or amend anything in open office ?

Yes AOO has an API that can be used with JAVA, Javascript, Python, and a
Basic language. Look our wiki for more information about it.

3-similarly can we add any component of OPEN OFFICE ?

Yes AOO has wizards with eclipse to generate compoennts, more info about
this on our DevGuide.

If these things are possible what should I be needed , Java ? and ?
That's all, waiting for your reply thank you.
